A couple of days back, we reported that Gionee was working on a new smartphone called as the Gionee M5 which was said to feature two batteries to provide around four days of battery life. While the company had yet to officially reveal details about the device, now we know a lot more about the phone, thanks to its listing on TENAA.

The Gionee M5 is confirmed to feature two batteries providing a total battery capacity of 6000mAh. This is one of the largest batteries we have seen in a smartphone, so the phone may indeed last for around four days as claimed. The M5 is a bit thicker than competitors measuring about 8.5mm, but given the two battery design and large capacity, this body size actually commendable. But, the phone is definitely weighted, with a weight of 213 grams — still not surprising given the two large batteries.

As for the other specs, the Gionee M5 turns out to be a mid-ranger. It features a 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. There will be a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 720p resolution. The rear camera will be of 8MP while the front shooter will be of 5MP. The phone will be running Android 5.0 Lollipop inside, which makes it the first lollipop powered 6000mAh phone in the market. Another 6000mAh phone (powered by Android KitKat) that we saw recently was the Innos D6000, which turned out to be quite popular among readers.

Gionee is yet to reveal more details such as the launch date or pricing about its Gionee M5. But since the phone has already hit TENAA, we expect a launch soon.

We have seen some innovative products from Gionee in the past few years, like the once world’s thinnest smartphone – the Gionee Elife S5.1. While the Elife series have several super slim smartphones, it looks like the company is focusing more on the features and overall specs in this series in 2015. The upcoming Gionee Elife E8 does look promising, but earlier today, we came across another potential product from the company called as the Gionee M5 that could be quite popular.

The highlight of the phone is going to be its dual battery design. Yes, the Gionee M5 is said to come with two different batteries inside, which should provide up to four days of battery life. Moreover, users can even use the phone with one of those batteries, which means the phone will still be running when the second one is kept for charging. So, with the two fully charged batteries, users should be able to get about four full days of charge.

While we don’t know the rest of the features of this Gionee M5 handset, this alone should be garner a lot of attention among buyers. Battery life has always been one area where smartphone manufacturers have yet to find the ideal solution, but it looks like Gionee may have made a break through.

Of course, its still early to say whether how long the phone will last with both the batteries fully charged. However, if this turns out to be true and if the batteries are bigger than at least 2500 mAh, then four day battery life shouldn’t be an impossible task.
