<p>Global PC shipments declined 9% in the third quarter (Q3) of 2023, according to market research firm Gartner. This is the eighth consecutive quarter of decline for the global PC market, but analysts believe that the market may have finally bottomed out and could start to see growth again in the next quarter.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> had the steepest drop among the major PC makers, with shipments falling 24%. Gartner attributes this decline to a significant increase in shipments in the third quarter of last year, as supply disruptions eased and students and teachers bought new PCs for the start of the academic year.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Apple_MacBook_Pro-1024x683.webp?x44794" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hp/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HP</a>, on the other hand, was the only vendor to post growth, with shipments rising 6.4%. But <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/lenovo/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lenovo</a> remained the top PC vendor in Q3, 2023 with a 25% market share.  </p>

<p>Overall, PC shipments totaled 64.3 million units in the third quarter, down from 70.6 million units in the same period a year ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite the PC market&#8217;s recent struggles, Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa believes the decline may have finally bottomed out. She attributed this to a number of factors, including corporate customers reaching their next purchasing cycle, spurred by Microsoft&#8217;s Windows 11 software upgrades, and consumers being ready to replace PCs bought earlier in the pandemic.</p>

<p>Gartner expects the worldwide PC market to grow 4.9% in 2024, with growth predicted in both the business and consumer segments.</p>

The numbers are coming from the Counterpoint Research Global PC tracker. <p>According to Counterpoint Research, the order backlog from last year contributed substantially to PC shipments for Q1, in line with previous projections. It is also predicted that global inflation and the current crisis in Europe could affect PC shipments for Q2, 2022. COVID-19&#8217;s resurgence in China will also hurt production, as some cities are already in lockdown. Counterpoint projects overall PC shipments for 2022 will fall slightly below its earlier forecast.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-457951" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632.png?x44794" alt="" width="1024" height="632" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632-768x474.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632-356x220.png 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632-696x430.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Q1-PC-shipment-ranking-1-1024x632-681x420.png 681w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a></p>
<p>The leading lights in terms of PC shipments in Q1 2022 are Lenovo (23.1%), HP (20.2%), Dell, Apple, Asus, and Acer. The vendors experienced a mixed bag of fortunes, although Lenovo was able to sustain its prime position with a strong product strategy. Apple also saw improvements in its M1 MacBook series.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-457950" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage.png?x44794" alt="" width="1110" height="677" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage.png 1110w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-300x183.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-768x468.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-1024x625.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-696x424.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-1068x651.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/PC-component-shortage-689x420.png 689w" sizes="(max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px" /></a></p>
<p>The PC component outlook for the year looks bright as OEMs continue to clear backlogs from the component shortage that has dragged on for two years. Counterpoint sees a substantial improvement in supply chain and logistics in the PC segment by H2 2022.</p>

<p>The shipment forecast for Q1 2022 remains optimistic as demand remains strong and the pressure on PC components eases out, albeit at a slow pace. The supply gap for the most important PC components like power management IC, Wi-Fi and I/O interface IC narrowed during Q4 2021, meaning OEMs and ODMs will be continuing to accumulate component inventory (via <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/global-pc-shipments-q4-2021/">Counterpoint Research</a>).</p>

<p>In terms of market share, Lenovo led with a 24% share, which while is a bit less compared to Q4 2020, still represents the highest unit sales at 21.7 million in Q4 2021.</p>
<p>HP follows closely with a 20.5% share and 1% YoY growth thanks to the easing of component shortage. The number of PCs sold by the American company saw a marginal growth as well from 18.4 million units in Q4 2020 to 18.5 million units in Q4 2021.</p>
<p>Dell comes in third on the podium, registering a 15% YoY growth during the same period, with most of its sales coming due to its excellent commercial/premium product strategy.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Apple">Apple</a> saw its sales remain largely unchanged in Q4 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, thanks to the success of its M1 Macbook. It falls behind Dell by a large margin though in terms of market share, garnering a share of 7.2%.</p>
<p>The remaining contribution to the global PC shipments in Q4 2021 comes from brands like <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Asus">Asus</a> and Acer. The former saw a single-digit YoY growth during the period while the latter saw a single-digit decline.</p>
