<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a>&#8216;s latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/17/samsung-galaxy-s24-series-china-price-announced/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24 series </a>isn&#8217;t just about its powerful features – it&#8217;s also introducing exciting new AI capabilities, known as Galaxy AI. This collection<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/01/17/samsung-galaxy-s24-series-ai-features/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> includes</a> various AI-driven features like Circle Search, Live Translation, and a Chat Assistant. </p>

<p>Samsung has announced that this new technology is powered by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-cloud/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Google Cloud</a>&#8216;s advanced AI. Specifically, the S24 series will use Google’s Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI, leveraging the power of the cloud for enhanced performance on their smartphones.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="536" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-1024x536.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy AI Samsung Google Cloud" class="wp-image-598999" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-1024x536.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-300x157.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-768x402.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-696x364.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-1068x559.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud-803x420.jpg 803w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Galaxy-AI-Samsung-Google-Cloud.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Gemini Pro is particularly adept at handling and integrating different types of data, such as text, images, and videos. It will be embedded in native apps like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard, enabling them to improve over time.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Besides these capabilities, Gemini Pro ensures critical aspects like security and privacy are well managed, as stated in the press release.</p>

<p>The Imagen 2 on the S24 series is a top-notch Diffusion model from Google for turning text into images. It&#8217;s used in the S24’s Gallery app for smart photo editing.</p>

<p>Samsung is also testing Google’s Gemini Ultra, a powerful tool for complex tasks, and using Gemini Nano, a smaller version for everyday phone tasks. This is similar to what the Pixel 8 Pro does, like giving smart replies to messages and improving videos and photos taken in the dark. Samsung is one of the first to try Gemini Ultra, which will later be available to more developers and businesses.</p>

<p>Janghyun Yoon, the Corporate EVP and Head of the Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung expressed his excitement about the Galaxy S24 series being the first to incorporate Gemini Pro.</p>

<p>Google Cloud’s CEO, Thomas Kurian, highlighted that Samsung developers would benefit from the platform&#8217;s high-end infrastructure and versatility, which allows them to bring these AI features to Samsung users.</p>

<p>At MWC Barcelona 2023 today, Google Cloud has <a href="https://cloud.google.com/blog/topics/telecommunications/introducing-telecom-network-automation">announced a new product</a> that aims to help communications service providers (CSPs) automate and optimize their network operations. The product, called Telecom Network Automation, is a cloud-based solution that leverages Google&#8217;s expertise in Kubernetes, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/27/openai-warns-humanity-artificial-general-intelligence/">artificial intelligence (AI)</a> and open source software.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="505" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-1024x505.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-518713" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-1024x505.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-300x148.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-768x378.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-1536x757.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-2048x1009.png 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-696x343.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-1068x526.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-1920x946.png 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-852x420.png 852w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-Thumbnail-324x160.png 324w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Source: Google Cloud</figcaption></figure>

<p>Telecom Network Automation is based on Nephio, an open source project that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/">Google</a> created and led on under the Linux Foundation. Nephio enables CSPs to use common automation templates to manage their network infrastructure and functions across multiple clouds and vendors. Nephio also uses AI-powered control loops to monitor and adjust network performance based on user-defined intents.</p>

<p>According to Google Cloud, Telecom Network Automation can help CSPs reduce operational costs, improve service quality and accelerate time-to-market for new services. The product can also support various use cases such as 5G radio access networks (RAN), edge computing, network slicing and private networks.</p>

<p>One of the early adopters of Telecom Network Automation is <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/bell-canada-deploys-first-production-implementation-of-google-distributed-cloud-edge-for-core-network-functions-301491157.html">Bell Canada</a>, which has used it to automate its implementation of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google/">Google</a> Distributed Cloud Edge, a platform that delivers cloud services at the edge of the network. Bell Canada said that Telecom Network Automation has helped it simplify its network management and enhance its customer experience.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="517" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-1024x517.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-518716" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-1024x517.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-300x151.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-768x387.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-1536x775.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-696x351.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-1068x539.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA-833x420.png 833w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Cloud-TNA.png 1800w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Telecom Network Automation State Diagram, Source: Google Cloud</figcaption></figure>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/02/14/google-self-developed-data-center-chip-production-2024/">Google Cloud</a> said that Telecom Network Automation is part of its cloud-native network modernization offering for CSPs, which also includes Anthos for Telecom, a platform that enables CSPs to run applications anywhere using containers and microservices. Google Cloud added that it is committed to collaborating with the telecom industry and supporting open standards and interoperability.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> has been trying to catch up to Amazon Web Services for the cloud services business, and if the new report is to be believed, then the search engine giant has made significant progress.</p>

<p>As per the report from <em>The Information</em>, Google has made progress in the development of data center <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/chipset">chips</a> which means that the company could start using its own chips in the year 2025.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="569" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-1024x569.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Logo" class="wp-image-515318" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-1024x569.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-300x167.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-768x427.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-1536x853.jpeg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-2048x1138.jpeg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-696x387.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-1068x593.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-1920x1067.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Google-Logo-756x420.jpeg 756w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>It is said that Google&#8217;s team of server chip design is currently working on the development of two ARM-based 5nm server chips. One of them, named Maple, is based on the existing design from Marvell Technology and is under trial production from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a>. The other chip, named Cypress, is designed in-house by a team based in Israel.</p>

<p>Now, it is being reported that the company could start <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mass-production">mass production</a> of these chips in the second half of 2024, and the deployment of these new chips in the data centers could start in 2025. Do note that these are speculated timeline and has not been confirmed by the company.</p>

<p>Google has been chasing a bigger rival in the server rental business, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amazon">Amazon</a> Web Services (AWS), which launched its own custom server chips four years ago. The custom-made chips are optimized to consume less power and deliver higher speeds than the traditional server processors, which also results in significant savings.</p>

<p>A few months ago, there was a report that the Nokia 7 Plus was sending user data to China. HMD Global <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/23/hmd-global-releases-statement-regarding-nokia-7-plus-alleged-data-breach/">released an official statement</a> to clarify that it wasn&#8217;t sharing user data with third parties but that the data being sent to China was device activation data.</p>
<p>They did say that shouldn&#8217;t have happened in the first place as Nokia devices sold outside China have their device activation data sent to servers in a different location (Singapore). However, a certain batch of the Nokia 7 Plus was mistakenly pre-installed with the device activation client for China which led to the user data going to the Chinese servers in the first place.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"></span><b>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/13/chinas-changxin-set-to-produce-first-locally-designed-dram-chip/">China’s Changxin set to produce first locally designed DRAM chip</a></b><span style="font-weight: 400;"></div></div></span></p>
<p>Now, HMD Global is transferring the servers from Singapore to Hamina, Finland. It is partnering with CGI, a consultancy firm with expertise in cloud and data science, and Google Cloud (data analytics and machine learning technologies) to move and store the phone activation and performance data to the Google Cloud Region in Hamina.</p>
<p>HMD Global, in its official press statement, said the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-4-2/">Nokia 4.2</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-3-2/">Nokia 3.2</a>, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/nokia-2-2/">Nokia 2.2</a> will be the first set of devices to begin storing their data at the new center. Older devices that are eligible to be upgraded to Android Q will have their data migrated to the new center after the Android Q update which begins later this year and ends in 2020.</p>
<blockquote><p>This change aims to further reinforce our promise to our fans for a pure, secure and up to date Android, with an emphasis on security and privacy through our data servers in Finland &#8211; Juho Sarvikas, Chief product officer at HMD Global.</p></blockquote>
<p>The move is also expected to allow HMD Global better analyze phone usage and user satisfaction to further improve how its phones are made and how to provide better experiences for its users.</p>
