Now, it has been confirmed that the feature is available for iOS as well.</p>
<p>The Google Fit application on iOS for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone">iPhone</a> will now be able to record the user&#8217;s heart rate along with the respiratory rate, <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/12/24/google-fit-iphone-camera-heart/">reports <em>9to5Google</em></a>. The feature will also work when the smartphone doesn’t have an active internet connection.</p>
<figure id="attachment_433213" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-433213" style="width: 1000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-433213 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Fit Heart Rate Monitoring for iOS" width="1000" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate.jpeg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-433213" class="wp-caption-text">Image Credit: 9to5Google</figcaption></figure>
<p>For this feature to work, the device&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera</a> is used. When users place their finger on the rear camera sensor of the device and apply slight pressure, Google fit can track the incoming light in the sensor to gauge the heart rate.</p>
<p>Users can also place their hand in front of a light source and allow Google Fit to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/heart-rate">measure their heartbeat</a> by tracking what the company says are subtle changes in the color of the user&#8217;s fingers. It takes about 30 seconds to show users a graph with beats per minute.</p>
<p>After the results are shown on the screen, users also have an option to save the vitals. Google claims that the accuracy of the process is determined by algorithms that also account for factors like age and skin tone, among others.</p>
<p>The feature was first introduced in February this year but was initially limited to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel">Pixel lineup of smartphones</a> and gradually the company added support for more devices. Now with support for iOS devices, it has expanded to more devices.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-424833 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3.png?x10805" alt="Google Fit App" width="363" height="786" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3.png 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-138x300.png 138w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-768x1664.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-473x1024.png 473w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-696x1508.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-1068x2314.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Pixel-6-Google-Fit-heart-camera-3-194x420.png 194w" sizes="(max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px" /></p>
<p>This feature which is present in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-5a/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 5</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-4a/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 4a</a> since march is now being tested for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 6</a> series in a limited release.</p>
<p>As the Pixel 6 series does not have dedicated sensors for measuring heart rate and respiratory rate, the feature works using the phone&#8217;s cameras. Checking your heart rate with this feature is as simple as placing your finger on the rear camera and waiting a few seconds as the app detects changes in the color of your finger and produces a reading that can be saved to your google fit account.</p>
<p>The process is pretty simple, with on-screen guides correcting you if you place your finger in the wrong place or a pop-up advising you to move to a place with better lighting if you are in a poorly lit environment.</p>
<p>The delayed inclusion of this feature in the Pixel 6 series can be accredited to the new style in which the camera module is set up, placing the primary lens and flash pretty far apart. This design causes a problem, as the feature also utilized the LED flash in the previous generations to take a more accurate reading in low-light environments.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the respiratory tracking feature works by propping up your device with the front camera facing your upper torso to record your chest movements when you breathe.</p>
<p>It was also observed by <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/11/11/pixel-6-google-fit-heart-camera/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">9to5Google</a> that &#8220;This early access capability is not particularly optimized, with an old Pixel 5-era graphic appears and mentions of being able to turn on the flash in error dialogs.&#8221;</p>
<p>It is still too early to tell if this feature will remain in the Pixel 6 as Google warns that tracking your respiratory rate and measuring heart rate &#8220;using just your phone&#8221; is &#8220;being fine-tuned and may be removed.&#8221;</p>
<p>You can check out if you got this feature in your Google Fit by seeing if two cards have appeared at the bottom of the Home tab or in Browse &gt; Vitals.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">With the release of OnePlus Health v1.3.2, users of the OnePlus Band can finally sync their data with Google Fit. This option in the app can be found with the name ‘Link to Google Fit’.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, according to </span><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2021/03/09/the-oneplus-band-can-now-be-synced-with-google-fit/"><i><span style="font-weight: 400">Android Police</span></i></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, there is a bug with sleep data synchronization. Perhaps, OnePlus will be fixing it in the next update of the OnePlus Health application.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Unlike other </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> products, the OnePlus Band has received poor reviews from the media. One of the cons is incompatibility with third-party apps. Thankfully, the company has responded to it by adding support for </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Google/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Google</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> Fit.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">However, to fix inaccurate readings and improve battery life, the brand needs to tweak its algorithm. We believe OnePlus can fix these mishaps to some extent since it is known for rolling out multiple OTA updates for its smartphones dedicated to fixes and improvements.</span></p>

Now, the company has confirmed that this new feature will start rolling out the Pixel series smartphones from next week.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> has clarified that these measurements are &#8220;not intended for medical purposes.&#8221; It&#8217;s functionality is quite unique and the company says that it provides a convenient way to “track and improve day-to-day wellness.”</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-369654 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor.png?x10805" alt="Google Pixel Respiratory Rate Monitor" width="525" height="941" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor.png 525w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor-167x300.png 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor-234x420.png 234w" sizes="(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></p>
<p>Both of these new features rely on the smartphone’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera</a>. For monitoring the user’s heart rate, it tracks color change as blood moves through the fingertips. And for monitoring respiratory rate, it tracks the rise and fall of the user’s chest. To increase accuracy in dark environments, flash can be enabled.</p>
<p>The calculation for these two metrics happens in real-time and is done entirely on the user&#8217;s device and not uploaded to Google&#8217;s cloud. After every measurement, it asks if the user wants to store the result for long-term graphing.</p>
<p>The heart rate monitoring feature is similar to what <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> offered on several Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S10. However, the South Korean giant removed the feature from Galaxy S10E, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-s20">Galaxy S20 lineup</a>, and phones launched after that.</p>
<p>As noted, the feature will start rolling to the users of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel">Pixel smartphones</a> from Monday and the company has said that more Android devices will be getting it in the future.</p>

In line with that, the tech giant has been trying to offer some interesting features.</p>
<p>The company has announced that it is adding new heart rate and respiratory rate monitors to its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-fit">Fit app</a> on Pixel smartphones. The feature is set to be available to all the users later this month but no specific date has been revealed yet.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-369654 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor.png?x10805" alt="Google Pixel Respiratory Rate Monitor" width="525" height="941" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor.png 525w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor-167x300.png 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Google-Pixel-Respiratory-Monitor-234x420.png 234w" sizes="(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></p>
<p>Interestingly, both of these new features rely on the smartphone&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera</a>. For monitoring the user&#8217;s heart rate, it tracks color change as blood moves through the fingertips. And for monitoring respiratory rate, it tracks the rise and fall of the user&#8217;s chest.</p>
<p>The company has clarified that the feature is being rolled out to allow users to track overall wellness and added that it cannot evaluate or diagnose medical conditions. Jack Po, Product Manager at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-health">Google Health</a>, said <em>&#8220;A doctor counts a patient’s respiratory rate by watching their chest rise and fall, and the Google feature mimics that procedure. The machine learning technique that we leverage basically tries to emulate that.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Jiening Zhan, Technical Lead at Google Health said that internal studies on Pixel phones showed that the respiratory rate feature was accurate within one breath per minute both for people with and without health conditions, while the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/heart-rate-monitoring">heart rate</a> feature was accurate within 2 percent.</p>
