<p>According to a new note published by a <a href="https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/143183382/december-2021-update-paused?hl=en&amp;s=09" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel Community Manager</a>, Google paused the December software update to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 6</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 6 Pro</a> devices after users reported calls dropping and disconnecting randomly. The Pixel team has now identified the issue and is working on a fix that will arrive sometime in late January along with all the bug fixes and features that were originally planned in December.</p>
<p>The late December fix timeline may not be satisfactory for all, hence Google has suggested a fix for customers who have already received the December fix and are struggling with the network issues. The search giant has advised these customers to revert back to the previous software version using the <a href="https://flash.android.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android Flash Tool</a> and perform a factory reset.</p>
<p>However, this solution will result in the loss of any data that has not been backed up and all the usual inconveniences that come with a factory reset of a smartphone. Additionally, you will temporarily lose access to all the bug fixes, features, and security patch that came with the December 2021 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/07/google-rolls-out-december-2021-feature-update/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel Feature drop</a>.</p>
<p>At this point, it is a choice between the lesser of two evils that the Pixel 6 owners will have to make. As for the update, Google has stated that it is expected to roll out around late January but it can even arrive in the first or second week. So stay tuned as we will be keeping an eye on any notable developments.</p>

However, for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/23/google-pixel-6-vs-pixel-6-pro-specs-comparison/">Google Pixel 6</a>, things have seemingly worsened with the latest patch as there have been several complaints about poor signal and network issues.</p>
<p>Reports of the problem have surfaced on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/rg7fx1/poor_reception_since_the_december_update_pixel_6/">Reddit</a> and the <a href="https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/210484323?pli=1">Google Issue Tracker</a> (via <a href="https://www.androidcentral.com/pixel-6-network-problems-december-update">Android Central</a>), with users stating that they&#8217;re now having to deal with connectivity woes in areas where there previously were no issues. The mobile network signal allegedly has been quite poor and even non-existent in some cases.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-403573 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1024x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 series featured" width="696" height="696" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1068x1068.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-420x420.jpg 420w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1920x1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>Not only does the issue lead to simple functions like calling and texting becoming a real pain, but also drains the battery faster as the phone struggles to find a proper signal. The whole thing is rather ironic considering one of the fixes included with the update was &#8220;General improvements for network connection stability &amp; performance.&#8221;</p>
<p>Most reports seem to originate from Europe with some touting the .A4 or .A1 builds that were pushed out to select European countries, Canada, and Taiwan, as the culprits for the issue. However, without official clarification, the matter still remains unclear.</p>
<p>Regardless, many of the Pixel 6 users are yet to receive the December update as rollout seems quite spotty this time, so it would be advisable to hold off on it until the issue is addressed.</p>
<p>In the meantime, be sure to check out the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/03/pixel-6-users-complain-about-signal-drops-but-there-are-workarounds/">workarounds</a> we have listed in a recent related coverage about the issue.</p>
