According to Winfuture.de, the Google Pixel 10a is expected to feature a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2424 x 1080 pixels. The panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, indicating improved durability compared to previous models. The overall design of the Pixel 10a is almost the same as its previous generation.

The device is said to be powered by the Google Tensor G4 processor paired with the Titan M2 security chip. It may arrive with 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage options of 128GB and 256GB, without microSD expansion. A 5,100mAh battery is expected, now supporting faster wired charging speeds up to 45W, along with wireless charging support.

In terms of cameras, the Pixel 10a is tipped to retain a 48-megapixel primary camera with dual-pixel autofocus and optical image stabilisation, alongside a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera offering a 120-degree field of view. A 13-megapixel front camera is also expected for selfies and video calls.

The Pixel 10a is expected to ship with Android 16 and will receive up to seven years of software and security updates. Its other features include an in-screen fingerprint sensor, an IP68-rated dust and water-resistant body, dual speakers, Bluetooth 6, Wi-Fi 6e, dual SIM support including eSIM, NFC, USB Type-C, satellite emergency calling, and multiple navigation systems such as GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS, and BeiDou.

5 key changes compared to Pixel 9a

Google Pixel 9a color variants

While the overall hardware appears familiar, five notable changes separate the Pixel 10a from the Pixel 9a:

Gorilla Glass 7i protection | Pixel 9a had Gorilla Glass 3

45W wired charging support | Pixel 9a supported 23W charging

Satellite emergency call feature added | Not available on Pixel 9a

Bluetooth 6 support | Pixel 9a featured Bluetooth 5.4

New colour options: Obsidian, Fog, Lavender, Berry | Pixel 9a came in Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, Peony

Also, the Pixel 10a measures 153.9 x 73 x 9 mm and weighs 183 grams. In comparison, the Pixel 9a has 154.7 x 73.3 x 8.9 mm dimensions and weighs 186 grams.

Google Pixel 10a variants, price and launch timeline

The report suggests that the Google Pixel 10a will be available in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB. Pricing is expected to start at €499, with reports indicating a promotional offer where the 256GB version may initially be available at the same price as the base model instead of its regular €599 cost. It will be available for purchase across different markets starting Feb. 18.

While most flagships now push beyond 6.7 inches, several new launches stay comfortably under the 6.3-inch mark or use foldable designs to remain pocket-friendly without sacrificing screen size.

Here are the top compact phones you can pick up this year. The list includes both traditional bar-style phones and modern flip phones, many of which earn their place thanks to their compact form factor.

Xiaomi 15

It features a 6.2-inch flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with LTPO technology, supporting up to 120Hz refresh rate. The panel peaks around 2600 nits, offering strong visibility even in bright conditions.

Smartphones in 2025 are no longer just about speed, battery life, or camera prowess; they’re about feel. And weight is quietly becoming a spec that matters again. As phone screens grow larger and batteries swell past the 5000mAh mark, some manufacturers are pushing back against the gravity of modern slabs with smarter design, lighter materials, and tighter engineering. The result: a new wave of devices that somehow manage to pack flagship power or serious utility into bodies that weigh less than ever.

Here are seven of the lightest smartphones launched in 2025, across flagship, midrange, foldable, and even budget segments, that prove you don’t need to feel the heft to get high-end function.

Samsung Galaxy S25 (162g)

Samsung kicked off the year strong with the Galaxy S25, a phone that returns to basics in the best possible way. At just 162 grams, it’s one of the lightest premium smartphones in recent memory, all without cutting the muscle. It runs on the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, co-engineered with Qualcomm, paired with a 4000mAh battery and a triple-camera system that includes a 50MP main sensor.

It’s rare for a flagship with a glass-and-metal build to drop below 170g, but Samsung managed to shave off weight from last year’s S24 (~167g) by refining materials and internal layouts. The 6.2-inch AMOLED screen, IP68 rating, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 finish make it feel anything but stripped down. The Galaxy S25 is a reminder that premium doesn’t have to be heavy.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (163g)

If the S25 is compact elegance, the S25 Edge is its futuristic twin, sleek, long, and impressively thin. At just 5.8mm thick and 163 grams, this 6.7-inch phone is lighter than many smaller devices. Samsung gave it the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 12GB of RAM, but it sacrifices the telephoto lens and drops the battery slightly to 3900mAh to maintain that razor-thin profile.

It’s less about being the most powerful device on paper and more about showing what’s possible when you prioritize design. Samsung calls it the lightest “phablet-class” flagship of 2025, and it holds up in hand: light, sturdy, and surprisingly ergonomic for its size.

Xiaomi 15 (189–191g)

At first glance, Xiaomi’s latest flagship might seem like a typical premium phone. But at under 191 grams with a 5240mAh battery, the Xiaomi 15 is anything but average. It achieves the rare feat of combining longevity and lightness in a compact chassis. The 6.36-inch AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and Leica-tuned triple 50MP camera system round out the package.

With 90W wired charging and a slim 8.1mm profile, Xiaomi shows how to maximize without overstuffing. In a market where most flagships with 5000mAh+ batteries weigh well over 210g, the Xiaomi 15 stands out as a clever exercise in balancing form and function.

Google Pixel 9a (186g)

Google’s Pixel 9a hits that sweet spot of size, weight, and simplicity. At 185.9g, it’s the lightest phone in Google’s 2025 lineup, even lighter than the flagship Pixel 9. You still get a 6.3-inch OLED screen, the latest Tensor G4 chip, and a generous 5100mAh battery.

The design is clean and practical, with a plastic-aluminum frame that keeps weight down without feeling cheap. It includes wireless charging, IP67 water resistance, and a dual-camera setup (48MP main + 13MP ultrawide). While it’s not featherlight by absolute standards, for a midrange 5G phone with real stamina, the Pixel 9a feels refreshingly light in the hand.

Vivo V50 (189g)

Vivo has quietly built a reputation for making well-balanced midrange phones, and the V50 continues that streak. With a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen and a 5000mAh battery, it should feel hefty, but it doesn’t. At 189 grams, the Satin Black edition of the V50 feels unexpectedly light, especially compared to similar phones that tip the scale past 200g.

It’s powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip with up to 12GB RAM, supports 90W fast charging, and includes dual 50MP cameras. Its 7.4mm thin body makes it easier to grip and pocket, while the polished design keeps it stylish. Vivo didn’t compromise on screen size or endurance, it simply engineered smarter.

Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 (199g)

Foldables are notorious for bulk, but Motorola’s 2025 Razr Ultra proves they don’t have to be. Despite a 7-inch inner screen, 4-inch outer display, and a huge 4700mAh battery, the Razr Ultra weighs just 199 grams. That’s practically unheard of in the foldable space.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16GB of RAM make it a powerhouse, but it’s the titanium hinge and efficient component layout that really deserve credit. For comparison, Samsung’s Z Flip 6 (2024) comes in at around 188g with a far smaller battery. Motorola traded a few extra grams for all-day battery life, and it’s a fair deal.

Tecno Spark Slim (166g)

Tecno shocked the tech world at MWC 2025 with the Spark Slim, a concept phone that feels like it belongs in a sci-fi flick. Measuring just 5.75mm thick and weighing 166 grams, it’s the thinnest phone ever revealed, yet it houses a 5200mAh battery. Yes, really.

This phone is more proof-of-concept than daily driver, with modest specs and limited availability, but it makes a point: thin and light is possible, even in the budget segment. Whether or not the Spark Slim makes it to mass market, it sets a new benchmark.

Choosing between the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE and Google Pixel 9a isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Both phones cater to slightly different audiences, even though they share some common ground. Whether you’re after top-tier performance, camera prowess, or battery endurance, both have strengths and compromises. Here’s how they stack up.

Design and Build Quality

At first glance, the Galaxy S24 FE looks and feels more premium, thanks to its Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both front and back, sandwiched between an aluminum frame. It’s also heavier at 213g, making it feel more solid.

The Pixel 9a, on the other hand, takes a more practical approach, using a plastic back with an aluminum frame. While it keeps the weight down to 186g, it doesn’t feel as high-end in hand.

Both phones come with IP68 water and dust resistance, so neither has an advantage in durability. However, Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the S24 FE is more resistant to scratches compared to Gorilla Glass 3 on the Pixel 9a, which feels like a downgrade for Google’s mid-range device.

Display

Samsung has always been known for its displays, and the 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on the S24 FE lives up to that reputation. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support, and 1900 nits of peak brightness.

The Pixel 9a counters with a 6.3-inch P-OLED display. It also offers a 120Hz refresh rate but stands out with a higher peak brightness of 2700 nits, which could make it more visible outdoors. However, Samsung’s AMOLED panel may deliver deeper blacks and better contrast.

Performance

Under the hood, Samsung uses the Exynos 2400e (4nm) chipset, a slightly toned-down version of the regular Exynos 2400 found in the S24 series. Google, on the other hand, equips the Pixel 9a with its custom Tensor G4 (4nm) chipset.

Raw performance-wise, the Exynos 2400e is expected to be slightly more powerful than the Tensor G4, especially in GPU-heavy tasks. However, Google’s chipset is designed more for AI and computational photography rather than gaming or raw processing power.

If you’re someone who values overall smoothness, the S24 FE might have the edge. But if you care about on-device AI features and smart optimizations, the Pixel 9a could be more appealing.

Software and Updates

Both phones offer seven years of major Android upgrades, ensuring long-term support. However, Pixel phones get Android updates on day one, while Samsung devices typically receive updates a few weeks later.

Google’s software experience is cleaner and more AI-focused, with features like Circle to Search, Best Take, and Live Translate built directly into the OS. Samsung, on the other hand, adds more customization and productivity tools with One UI 6.1, including Samsung DeX for a desktop-like experience.

If you prefer a simple, no-frills Android experience, the Pixel 9a is the better choice. But if you like customization and extra features, the S24 FE is the way to go.

Cameras

The Galaxy S24 FE’s triple-camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. In contrast, the Pixel 9a sticks to a dual-camera setup with a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultrawide lens.

Samsung’s telephoto camera gives it a clear edge for zoom shots, while the Pixel 9a’s camera may shine in terms of processing power and Google’s computational photography tricks like Best Take and Ultra HDR.

For video, the S24 FE goes up to 8K at 30fps, while the Pixel 9a maxes out at 4K at 60fps. On the selfie front, the Galaxy S24 FE offers a 10MP camera, while the Pixel 9a has a higher-resolution 13MP ultrawide front camera.

Battery and Charging

Battery life may be a deciding factor for some. The Pixel 9a packs a larger 5100mAh battery, compared to the 4700mAh cell in the Galaxy S24 FE.

Samsung’s 25W wired charging is slightly faster than Google’s 23W, but the S24 FE also supports 15W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, which the Pixel 9a lacks.

Which One Should You Buy?

It’s all up to you to choose between the Galaxy S24 FE and the Pixel 9a. But suppose you’re after a more premium design, a versatile camera system with a telephoto lens, a sharper display, and bonus features like Samsung DeX and reverse wireless charging. In that case, the Galaxy S24 FE is the way to go.

On the other hand, the Pixel 9a is the better pick if you prefer a clean, stock Android experience with day-one updates, smarter AI and computational photography, longer battery life, and a lighter, more compact build.

Google has postponed the release of the Pixel 9A to address a component quality issue affecting “a small number of Pixel 9A devices”. The Pixel 9a is now expected to start shipping in April instead of March, and even preorders have yet to open on the Google Store. This delay marks a departure from Google’s usual practice of launching products immediately after the announcement.

The delay is due to ongoing checks on a component issue

In a statement to The Verge, Google spokesperson Matt Flegal confirmed that the delay is due to ongoing checks on a component issue. The embargo for this device does not allow creators to reveal specific features or capabilities of this device. “They are not allowing us to show any software at all like I usually do”, said famous YouTube creator Marques Brownlee.

While testing a Pixel with benchmarks has barely turned out to be helpful to the sales of a Tensor-powered Pixel device in the past, the new embargo indicates the seriousness of the current situation. That said, Google has not specified which component is under scrutiny.

The Pixel lineup has generally been well-regarded for its reliability, but it has faced occasional issues. For instance, Google released an urgent firmware update for the Pixel 4A earlier this year to address battery overheating concerns. The Pixel 8 also saw extended warranty coverage for display defects, and the Pixel 4A 5G experienced touchscreen problems after a 2021 software update.

The Pixel 9A features the largest battery (5,100mAh) in any Google phone to date, and it’s expected to deliver strong performance and battery life. Unlike the Pixel 8a, the Pixel 9a is positioned well, and the Pixel 9 doesn’t seem like a significantly better deal for most people as the Pixel 8 did last year. The Pixel 9a also stands out as a unique device with its completely flushed camera island. It’s just the people waiting for the latest affordable Pixel will have to wait about a month longer.

School Time mode reduces distractions during class hours by silencing notifications and limiting app access. Google Wallet for kids is rolling out in select countries, allowing children to make safer digital payments under parental supervision.

Pricing, Offers, and Availability

The Pixel 9a is priced at ₹49,999 in India for the 256GB variant, available exclusively on Flipkart starting in April. A limited-period ₹3,000 cashback and 24-month no-cost EMI options are offered through HDFC Bank, IDFC Bank, and Bajaj Finserv.

Globally, the phone starts at $US499 / CAD $679 / €549 /£499 for the 128GB model, and the 256GB model costs US$599 / £599. Sales will begin in April via the Google Store and retailers.

The upcoming Google Pixel 9a has made its way to Geekbench and AnTuTu, ahead of its official launch. It even outperforms its close competitor, the Galaxy A56.

According to leaks shared by Sahil Karoul, the Pixel 9a, powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, achieved a single-core score of 1,530 and a multi-core score of 3,344 on Geekbench 6. On AnTuTu, the device achieved a total score of 1,049,844, with a CPU score of 260,567 and a GPU score of 434,441.

But remember, benchmarks do not tell the whole story

While these results are slightly lower than the Geekbench scores of the more expensive Pixel 9 model (which averaged 1,925 single-core and 5,674 multi-core), it’s important to note that the tested Pixel 9a was running pre-launch software. It also likely has a slightly less effective cooling system, which could explain the difference.

For context about the performance, the Galaxy A56 (a similarly priced mid-range) scored 1,364 and 3,899 on the Geekbench single and multi-core tests respectively. Its AnTuTu composite score of 908,689 also falls short of the Pixel 9a’s performance. So, the Pixel 9 Pro does not exactly lack raw performance capability for its price. On top of that, the clean and lightweight UI will also serve as an edge.

However, we should also consider the fact that all of Google’s Tensor chips have underperformed both in terms of raw performance and power efficiency as compared to the rival chipset from Qualcomm. The benchmark tests do not really speak about sustained performance, which is what actually matters. After all, you may want to play the game you are excited about for more than 3 minutes and you may record at 4K 60 for more than a couple of minutes.

While the benchmark shows promising results, it remains to be confirmed whether the thermal control or the performance tuning will allow the phone to sustain some of the day-to-day activities. More information will likely surface as we inch closer to the launch.

Rumors about Google’s upcoming Pixel 9a are picking up steam, with leaks revealing key details about its pricing, release date, and specs. According to AndroidHeadlines, the Pixel 9a will start at $499 in the U.S. for the 128GB model, keeping the same price as the Pixel 8a. However, the 256GB version will cost $649, marking a $40 increase over its predecessor.

Google Pixel 9a renders by @ACE100xd

The phone is expected to launch on March 26, 2025, with pre-orders opening a week earlier on March 19. Renders shared by X user @ACE100xd reveal that the device will come in four colors: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony.

In Europe, the Pixel 9a will follow the same schedule, with pre-orders starting on March 19 and general availability on March 26. The 128GB model will be available in all four colors, while the 256GB version will be limited to Obsidian and Iris. Pricing will be €549 or £499 for the 128GB model and €649 or £599 for the 256GB version.

Some notable upgrades include a bigger 5,100mAh battery, Google’s Tensor G4 processor (the same one in the Pixel 9), and a 48MP main camera sensor for better photography. These improvements suggest Google is focusing on making the Pixel 9a a solid mid-range contender. In addition to these details, a previous report has claimed that all variants of the Pixel 9a will come with three months of Google One (100 GB) and YouTube Premium, plus six months of Fitbit Premium subscriptions.

There’s no word yet on pre-order deals or trade-in offers, but with these specs and pricing, the Pixel 9a looks like an affordable yet capable option. More details are expected as the launch date gets closer.

The upcoming Google Pixel 9a is poised to deliver a larger display, improved performance, and a competitive price. Slated for a mid-March 2025 release, this early launch also suggests Google might skip hardware announcements at Google I/O next year. The Pixel 9a will debut at $499, the same price as the Pixel 8a, offering enhanced features without a price increase.

Scheduled for a March 2025 launch, the Pixel 9a’s release timeline is a few months earlier than expected, aiming to stay competitive in the mid-range market. Its $499 price point undercuts the Pixel 9 by $300, offering substantial value for consumers seeking flagship-like capabilities.

Pixel 9a specifications (leaked)

The Pixel 9a reportedly comes with a 6.3-inch Actua display, supporting adaptive refresh rates from 60Hz to 120Hz—a considerable size increase over the Pixel 8a’s 6.1-inch 120Hz display. This screen size matches the Pixel 9, giving users a similar visual experience.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a features the new Tensor G4 chipset, 8GB RAM, and storage options of 128GB or 256GB. The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery, an 11% increase over the Pixel 8a, though charging speeds remain at 18W wired and 7.5W wireless.

Compared with the Pixel 8a, the Pixel 9a’s Tensor G4 is relatively power efficient and can run more advanced AI features on the device. Not to mention, it suggests a significantly better battery life, a higher peak performance that’s also more sustainable for the phone, and a better implementation of AI features.

According to Google, Tensor G4 was designed with its DeepMind division and is optimized to run our most advanced AI models. It will be the first processor to run Gemini Nano with Multimodality — which helps your phone understand text, images, and audio.

Camera specs reportedly include a 48MP primary lens, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 13MP front-facing camera.

To provide context, the Pixel 8a launched with a 64MP main camera. Despite the size increase and the bigger battery, Google has reportedly managed to keep the Pixel 9a’s weight at 186g, even lighter than the Pixel 8a’s 188g.

With its boosted specs and consistent price point, the Pixel 9a could be a major contender among mid-range phones in 2025.

The CAD renders of the Pixel 9A show that it features a punch-hole OLED panel on the front. The bezels are comparatively thicker than the flagship Pixel 9 models.

The edges of the Pixel 9a are flat, with the power button and volume buttons on the right edge. The bottom edge features a speaker grille, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a SIM slot,

The back panel of the Pixel 9a reveals the major design change. Unlike its predecessors, starting from the Pixel 6 series launched in 2021, which featured a prominent horizontal camera bar, the Pixel 9a departs from this design and does not have a horizontal camera bump.

The dual camera unit appears nearly flush on the 9a’s back. The overall design of the phone is consistent with the leaked image that surfaced a few weeks ago.

Google Pixel 9a specifications (rumored)

The rumor mill is yet to leak concrete details about the Pixel 9a’s internals. Rumors suggest that the Android 15 OS may come preinstalled on the 9a, and it is likely to receive seven years of updates. The 9a is expected to feature the Tensor G4 processor, though it might include an older modem.

Looks like Google isn’t hitting the brakes on its ever-expanding Pixel lineup. After launching a wave of five phones in 2024, a new leak suggests the company might be planning a repeat performance in 2025.

The rumor mill, courtesy of Android Headlines, has churned out codenames for what could be a five-phone Pixel party next year. Leading the pack is the Pixel 9a, codenamed “Tegu.”

Sticking to tradition, this mid-range device could see the light of day around Google I/O in May. You can expect it to offer all the latest Pixel phone hardware and software features at a more accessible price point.

There’s also a hint of what we might see in the Pixel 10 series. The leak suggests Google will be sticking with its two-size Pro strategy for the next line.

Pixel 10 reportedly carries the model name “Frankel” while Pixel 10 Pro is “Blazer.” Joining them will be the “Mustang”, the largest Pro XL mode. Not to forget, there’s also mention of the foldable smartphone “Rango”, the successor to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Of course, it’s still early for us to learn the specs of the phone. But we can likely expect the upcoming phone to be powered by the next-generation Tensor chip, the Tensor G5, which will finally be built by TSMC. Since 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Pixel phones, we can expect Google to go all out with the Pixel 10 series.

That said, it’s important to remember this is just a leak. Until Google makes an official announcement, details like specs, features, and even the number of phones are purely speculative. Still, it hints at a year full of Pixel options that will cater to a wide range of budgets and preferences.
