The much-anticipated launch threw up some details about the self-developed chipset but one misconception was that the chipset is built on a 4nm Samsung process. This may not be unconnected to earlier rumors that the second-generation Tensor chip will be built on a 4nm process. Google has now clarified that the Tensor G2 actually uses a 5nm process technology.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-483860" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1.png?x10805" alt="Google" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-300x150.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-768x384.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-696x348.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-840x420.png 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>According to Android Authority, a Google spokesperson has confirmed that the Tensor G2 is built on the 5nm process. The exec further disclosed that the chip was developed specifically for real-world use cases with improvement in its performance and energy efficiency. This approach also enables the US firm to add new capabilities while taking a step forward in machine learning using its next-generation TPU and G2.</p>
<p>So, Tensor G2 is actually a 5nm process chip. However, Google is yet to officially reveal the exact node process and manufacturer. There is no doubt, though, that Samsung is Google&#8217;s main partner in this regard. On Samsung&#8217;s roadmap, there are two 5nm process nodes, the 5LPE used by the original Tensor and the subsequent 5LPP. It is not clear at the moment which node process Tensor G2 uses.</p>
<p>This should come as a surprise, though, as the current process used on existing flagship processors like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 220 is the 4nm process. The reduction in size makes these 4nm processors potentially more powerful than 5nm chips. The next-gen processors are expected to migrate to a 3nm process with the associated increase in performance and energy consumption.</p>

<h3>Pixel 7 series design &amp; display</h3>
<p>The Pixel 7 series will not deviate from the design language of the Pixel 6 series, as seen in the official teasers and renders. However, the device has received some polish to the design, especially the camera visor and the camera setup. The visor this time around is made of polished metal, giving the phone a more premium look, and the camera&#8217;s placement has also been adjusted to look more pleasing.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-488388 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___.jpg?x10805" alt="Pixel 7 Pro" width="900" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Pixel-7-Pro___-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></p>
<p>On the front, the Pixel 7 Pro will feature a curved 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the vanilla Pixel 7 will get a 6.3-inch flat Full HD+ screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz.</p>
<h3>Specs &amp; features</h3>
<p>Spec-wise, both devices will feature the Tensor G2 chip that will utilize the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. It will feature a new Mali-G710 GPU, which is expected to significantly improve gaming performance compared to the last generation. Other than that, the phone will have a new NPU, improved modems, and a Titan M2 security chip.</p>

The 7 Pro will receive a 48MP telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom in addition to the two cameras on the Pixel 7. The Pro model will support cinematic blur, true tone, macro focus, and up to 30x high-resolution zoom. The basic model will not support macro focus, and its high-resolution zoom will be limited to 8x magnification. A 10.8MP front-facing camera with 4K video recording will be available for selfies.</p>
<h3>Expected pricing &amp; availability</h3>
<p>The vanilla Pixel 7 listing leaked last week, all but confirming the rumors that the device will have a starting price of $599. EU customers can expect the price tag of the base Pixel 7 to be around €650.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the Pixel 7 Pro model is rumored to have a starting price of $899. The Pixel 7 will have three color options &#8211; Snow, Obsidian, and Lemongrass. Whereas, the 7 Pro will get Obsidian, Hazel, and Snow.</p>

The devices will feature new chipsets called Tensor G2.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-459930 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 7 Series Flagship Smartphones" width="1920" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1.jpeg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-1-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></p>
<p>Ahead of the launch, the Pixel 7 Pro has appeared on Geekbench, giving us an idea of the new chip&#8217;s performance. The chipset has an octa-core processor onboard with a base frequency of 1.80GHz. Two of the cores have a max clock of 2.35GHz and the remaining two can boost up to 2.85GHz.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-486437 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Annotation-2022-09-19-105702.png?x10805" alt="" width="681" height="878" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Annotation-2022-09-19-105702.png 681w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Annotation-2022-09-19-105702-233x300.png 233w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Annotation-2022-09-19-105702-326x420.png 326w" sizes="(max-width: 681px) 100vw, 681px" /></p>
<p>It looks like the company is using the same combination of two Cortex-X1 cores, two Cortex-A76 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores, with higher clock speeds. The chipset has a new GPU onboard called the Mali-G710, which is expected to offer a 20% bump in performance and 20% increased power efficiency.</p>
<p>The benchmark shows that the Google Pixel 7 Pro scores 1068 points on the single-core test and 2149 points on the multi-core test of Geekbench 5. Other than that, the listing shows that the device has 12GB RAM and operates on Android 12.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-459931 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 7 Series" width="2000" height="1125" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2.jpg 2000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Google-Pixel-7-Series-2-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px" /></p>
<h3>Google Pixel 7 Pro specs (expected)</h3>
<p>In terms of design, the Pixel 7 Pro will carry over the majority of the details from the Pixel 6 Pro with some changes. It is rumored to feature a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display.</p>
<p>On the optics front, the device will carry three sensors on the back. These will include a 50MP main camera (Samsung GN1) and a 13MP ultrawide camera (Sony IMX38), and a 48MP telephoto camera (Samsung GM1). Upfront, the device will likely house a 10.87MP (Samsung 3J1) sensor.</p>

However, prior to the official announcement, the company has confirmed the color options and new Tensor chips for the Pixel 7 lineup.</p>
<p>Talking about the new chipset first, the Search Engine giant has confirmed (reference to its name spotted on the updated Pixel 7&#8217;s official site) the name of the second generation Tensor chip that will power its flagship Pixel 7 series. The new SoC is dubbed the Tensor G2. While the original Google Tensor featured 8 cores and was based on the 5nm process, the next gen chipset will be based on Samsung&#8217;s 4nm based process.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483860 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1.png?x10805" alt="Google" width="1024" height="512" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-300x150.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-768x384.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-696x348.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Google-Tensor-G2-Chip-1024x512-1-840x420.png 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the first gen Tensor chip was made in collaboration with Samsung as well. The 5nm chipset had 8 cores and a Mali G78 MP20 GPU. Through the collaboration, Google designed a smartphone chip that will leverage its machine intelligence. As per official claims, the Tensor G2 will launch with Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and will bring improvements in the image and video processing as well as security and voice recognition. Furthermore, its also possible that the same chipset will run the Pixel 7a model similar to the last gen Pixel 6a.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483861 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a.webp?x10805" alt="Google" width="940" height="519" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a.webp 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a-300x166.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a-768x424.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a-696x385.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-a-761x420.webp 761w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /></p>
<p>Notably, the company has referred to this second gen Tensor chipset as the &#8220;GS201&#8221; internally. The Tensor G2 will be based on the 4nm LPE process and features 2 x Cortex X1 cores, 2 x Cortex A78 cores, and 4x Cortex A55 cores, with its AnTuTu scores expected to hit around the 800,000 points mark. Based on recent rumors, Google is also working on a new face unlock feature for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483862 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b.webp?x10805" alt="Google" width="940" height="516" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b.webp 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b-300x165.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b-768x422.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b-696x382.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-b-765x420.webp 765w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /></p>
<p>Apart from this, the brand also revealed the color options for its upcoming high end smartphones. The company recently updated its online store, which showcased the new Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7 in multiple color options. Its higher end Pro model will be available in three options, including Obsidian, Hazel, and Snow. On the other hand, the base variant will also have three colors, namely bsidian, Lemongrass, and Snow.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-483863 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c.webp?x10805" alt="Google" width="940" height="513" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c.webp 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c-300x164.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c-768x419.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c-696x380.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/proof-c-770x420.webp 770w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /></p>
<p>The brand even had a short description, which read &#8220;With the next gen Google Tensor processor, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will bring even more helpful, personalized features to photos, videos, security, and speech recognition.&#8221; The Pixel 7 series is expected to be announced on the 6th of October 2022, with the Pixel Watch tagging alongside it. So stick around for more updates as we will be covering the launch event and even any other reports or leaks that surface in the coming weeks.</p>
