<p>It has been only a few months since Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/09/07/google-pixel-7-launch-october-6-pixel-watch-will-tag-along/">launched the Pixel 7 series</a> smartphones, which come powered by the company&#8217;s own Tensor G2 processor. Now, reports about the next-generation Tensor processor are getting leaked online.</p>

<p>In the latest development, a <a href="https://winfuture.de/news,132895.html">report claims</a> that the Tensor G3 processor from Google will stick to Samsung for the manufacturing of the upcoming chipset, and the processor has been codenamed Zuma.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-494522" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset-746x420.png 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Google-Tensor-Chipset.png 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Apart from the codename and manufacturer, some more details have also surfaced online. It is being reported that the Tensor G3 will be an offshoot of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> Exynos 2300. As of now, details about the Tensor G3 processor aren&#8217;t known.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Samsung has already started working on its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/exynos-2300">Exynos 2300 chip</a>, even though the company will be ditching its own Exynos chips from the upcoming flagship Galaxy S23 lineup in favor of Qualcomm chips.</p>

<p>The report also points out that the chip codenamed Zuma may be fabricated on the more advanced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/3nm">3nm process</a> by Samsung. For comparison, the current-gen Tensor G2 is built using the 5nm node. It is also being said that Google will stick with the same modem for the upcoming Tensor processor as the one available in the current chipset.</p>

However, a new report has revealed that the company might already have began work for the chipset that will be featured on the Pixel 8 series next year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-421603 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png?x10805" alt="google tensor featured" width="1000" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.galaxyclub.nl/nieuws/samsung-werkt-aan-nog-een-nieuwe-google-soc-en-een-nieuwe-exynos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>GalaxyClub</em> </a>report, Google and Samsung have been working on an upgraded Tensor chipset. In other words, it might be the successor model that could be called Tensor 3. This third generation Tensor chipset carried the model number S5P9865 and is being tested on a developer board that is codenamed Ripcurrent. For those unaware, the Tensor 2 chipset for the upcoming Pixel 7 series is believed to have a model number S5P9855 and is being tested on a board codenamed Cloudripper.</p>
<p>The new report did not reveal any finer details regarding the Tensor 3 chipset. Although, its safe to assume that it will be more powerful than its predecessors. Furthermore, the partnership with the South Korean tech giant also implies that Google is looking to improve artificial intelligence processing and performance capabilities of the next gen Tensor chip overall.</p>
<p>At the moment, the Tensor chip arrives with some pretty neat features, but they do not rival Qualcomm&#8217;s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in terms of raw performance. But, the Tensor chips might soon catch up over the next couple of years. Regardless, having their very own chipset that is designed solely for their Pixel series of smartphones let&#8217;s Google customize and specialize the chipset for their own smartphones alone.</p>

Now, the technology giant is gearing up to launch the Pixel 6a smartphones in the market.</p>
<p>While the company has not yet confirmed the launch date for the upcoming Pixel A-series smartphone, new reports indicate that the Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel-6a">Pixel 6a</a> could be officially announced sometime in the month of May this year.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_426322" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-426322" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-426322" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6a CAD renders by 91mobiles/Steve Hemmerstoffer" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-_CAD-render-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-426322" class="wp-caption-text">Google Pixel 6a CAD renders by 91mobiles/Steve Hemmerstoffer</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>The phone has also been <a href="https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=Y&amp;application_id=bV3YrITVpmfHdmwsfJHpVQ%3D%3D&amp;fcc_id=A4RGX7AS">spotted on the FCC website</a> and the documents from the listing reveal some features that will be available on the Pixel 6a, which has been listed with multiple models. From the listing, it appears that at least one model of the Pixel 6a will come with support for mmWave <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> which is also known as high-band 5G.</p>
<p>It is being speculated that the device will be released at the company&#8217;s annual developer conference named Google I/O, which is scheduled to start on 11th May. Last year, the Pixel 5a passed through FCC in July, just a month before it got launched. If we have to go by that timing, then the Pixel 6a, which passed thorugh FCC this month, should get launched next month, i.e. May 2022.</p>
<p>Unlike the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-5a/">Pixel 5a smartphone</a>, which was available only in the United States and Japan, the upcoming Google Pixel 6a is expected to get launched in multiple countries.</p>
<p>If the previous reports are to be believed, then the Pixel 6a will have a 6.2-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED display</a> and will come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. It is expected to keep the same camera configuration as its predecessor but will come powered by Google&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor">Tensor mobile processor</a> along with the AI-powered features.</p>

<p>A <a href="https://twitter.com/jon_prosser/status/1507116459230642195">new report</a> coming from Jon Prosser claims that the technology giant could launch the Pixel 6a smartphone on 28th July. He says that the device could be officially announced at the upcoming Google I/O in May but the launch in many regions has been pushed.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-426288 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6a" width="768" height="432" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-1.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-1-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6a-1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p>The Google Pixel 6a has reportedly been codenamed &#8220;Bluejay&#8221; and is said to become in three color options &#8212; Black, White, and Green. We expect to know more information about the device&#8217;s pricing and availability in the coming weeks or months.</p>
<p>Coming to the specifications, previous leaks have indicated that the smartphone will feature a 6.2-inch <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED display</a> and will feature an under-display fingerprint sensor. Similar to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, this one too will be powered by the Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor">Tensor chipset</a> and have 128GB of internal storage.</p>
<p>In the camera department, there will be a 12.2-megapixel <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> IMX363 primary sensor and a 12-megapixel Sony IMX355 ultra-wide angle lens. The front-facing camera on the device will be housed inside a punch-hole cutout.</p>
<p>The report also reveals that the next-generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel-7">Google Pixel 7 series</a> smartphones could get launched in October this year, along with the company&#8217;s own Pixel Watch. It is being speculated that the Pixel Watch could be teased at the Google I/O event.</p>

<p>Folks at 9toGoogle last year <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/29/google-2nd-gen-tensor-chip-for-pixel-7/">spotted a reference to a new version of the chip</a> that currently powers the Pixel 6 series. The next-gen Tensor codenamed &#8220;Cloudripper,&#8221; carried model number GS201 and is expected to power the Pixel 7 series.</p>
<p>Fast forward to now, and the release of Android 13 DP1 has brought to light some further information about said chip along with other stuff, as <a href="https://9to5google.com/2022/02/18/pixel-7-pro-details-2nd-gen-tensor-samsung-modem/">reported</a> by 9to5Google once again.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-444435 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="google pixel 6 pro featured" width="1000" height="563" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>A trusted source of developer <a href="https://twitter.com/cstark_27">cstark27</a> spotted that the GS201 chip will feature a currently unreleased Samsung modem with the model number “g5300b.” The Pixel 6 meanwhile comes with “g5123b,” which is the Exynos Modem 5123. Given the correlation, it is likely that the unreleased modem is actually Exynos Modem 5300, and it will handle the new Tensor&#8217;s connectivity bits.</p>
<p>The code also revealed three additional device codenames associated with the Exynos Modem 5300. Two of these are “Cheetah” and “Panther” and most likely stand for the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.</p>
<p>Another interesting thing to note here is the obvious feline reference with the codenames. Every Pixel and Nexus device preceding the Pixel 6 series had codenames pertaining to fish or other sea life. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro changed the trend by opting for codenames “Oriole” and “Raven,” respectively, which are birds. From this, it can be said that Google is possibly changing codenaming scheme on a generational basis, although it would take a couple of more Pixel phone generations to know for sure.</p>
<p>Apart from the above, there isn&#8217;t much known about the Pixel series set for a fall release this year, but we should be gaining more info as we inch closer to its launch.</p>

And now, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a> is hiring for a new San Diego-based team for camera image signal processor design.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-403576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Tensor-e1631746378667.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Tensor" width="451" height="369" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Tensor-e1631746378667.jpg 451w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Tensor-e1631746378667-300x245.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px" /></p>
<p>According to a report by <a href="https://www.androidcentral.com/google-hiring--isp-design-team-tensor" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AndroidCentral</em></a>, the new hirings could be for the design and development of the next generation of Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tensor</a> SoC which is rumored to be codenamed &#8216;Cloudripper&#8217;. Google&#8217;s senior director Mike Coulter posted the hiring announcement on linked stating that the company is looking to form a San Diago-based Camera ISP design and verification team that has openings at all levels.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>It is worth noting that prior to joining Google, Mike Coulter was the Vice President of Engineering at Qualcomm for four years. Twitter user <a href="https://twitter.com/anshelsag/status/1486766561540984834?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1486766561540984834%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidcentral.com%2Fgoogle-hiring--isp-design-team-tensor" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Anshel Sag</em></a> alluded to the possibility that Google might be trying to poach talent from Qualcomm, which is also based in San Diago.</p>
<p>We have previously reported that Google is working on the 2nd generation Tensor chip which is expected to be announced in the second half of 2022 and will likely be featured in the upcoming Pixel 7 series devices.</p>
<p>Information on the 2nd generation Tensor chip is scarce right now and we only know about its codename &#8220;Cloudripper&#8221; and an alleged &#8220;GS201&#8221; model number. However, with hirings commencing for the chip&#8217;s ISP, we are sure to get more leaks and details about the next-gen Tensor chip.</p>

Unlike the previous Pixel smartphones, the Search giant added an all-new Tensor SoC to uplift the performance and efficiency while offering a splendid experience. Google Pixel 6 is faring quite well against the other flagship smartphones in the market.</p>
<p>So we have compiled <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6-pro/">the Pixel 6</a> performance benchmarks to give you an overview of the smartphone&#8217;s prowess over other smartphones.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-425933" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-1024x611.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="415" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-1024x611.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-300x179.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-768x458.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-696x415.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-1068x637.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1-704x420.jpg 704w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/PIXEL-6-1.jpg 1374w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;"></h6>
<p>Performance benchmarks help to estimate the smartphone&#8217;s performance in normal usage and also rank the phone in performance order. The presence of the first-ever custom SoC from Google further excites us to check its actual performance.</p>
<p>The new Tensor SoC is purely designed to offer the blend of powerful AI and Machine learning aspects on a mobile chipset. Apart from the performance, the new SoC offers powerful GPU performance. It is built of ARM cores, while Google worked on its TPU and ISP aspects. There are hardly any official details on Google&#8217;s input in the chip i.e. the TPU and ISP. But benchmarks can give us an overview of the SoC&#8217;s capabilities.</p>
<h3><strong>Pixel 6 3DMark GPU benchmark</strong></h3>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6/">Pixel 6</a> GPU outperforms all the flagship SoCs including the Snapdragon 888. According to a Reddit user, the Pixel 6 scored 6666 points on 3DMark&#8217;s Wild Life Test.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 888 scored 5599 and the Exynos 21000 attained a score of 5668.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_2_d64d5b6bfb.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-425904 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_2_d64d5b6bfb.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="119" height="456" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_2_d64d5b6bfb.jpg 119w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_2_d64d5b6bfb-78x300.jpg 78w" sizes="(max-width: 119px) 100vw, 119px" /></a></p>
<p>In 3DMark&#8217;s Wild Life Extreme test, the Google Tensor SoC scores 2028 while Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 2100 stand at 1494 and 1793, respectively.</p>
<p>However, the performance across these benchmark apps confirms Google&#8217;s efforts are in a positive direction. It scores the highest average frame per second of 12.10.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-425903" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="609" height="456" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca.jpg 609w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/csm_pixel_6_gpu_1_51839326ca-561x420.jpg 561w" sizes="(max-width: 609px) 100vw, 609px" /></p>
<h3></h3>
<h3><strong>Pixel 6 Pro AnTuTu</strong></h3>
<p>In AnTuTu benchmark, the Pixel 6 Pro attains 177890 points in CPU, 287342 in GPU, 99684 in MEM, and 144852 in UX with a total score of 709,768 points. Meanwhile, the Red Magic 6 with Snapdragon 888 with a dedicated cooling system scored a total of 858734.</p>

<h3><strong>Pixel 6 Genshin Impact Test</strong></h3>
<p>Genshin Impact test provides real-world performance indicators for the SoCs. Pixel 6 Pro encasing the Tensor SOC scored as low as 30fps, and the average was at 32fps with 43.5°C. While gaming with fan, the fps jumps to 50 immediately. Tensor&#8217;s underwhelming performance brings it to the sub-premium chipset level.</p>
<p>On the other hand, the Snapdragon 888 averages at 42fps.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>Pixel 6 GeekBench ML</strong></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-425913" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="960" height="421" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench-300x132.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench-768x337.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench-696x305.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pixle-6-geekbench-958x420.jpg 958w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></p>
<p>Based upon the test of both the CPU and GPU, the Pixel 6 scored 1700+ points which is better than Red Magic 6S Pro and S21 Ultra standing scoring below 1700. Google Tensor looks to be a massive improvement, with the fastest NNAPI performance across the competition.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>PC Mark Android</strong></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-425914" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="960" height="439" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android-300x137.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android-768x351.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android-696x318.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/pc-mark-android-918x420.jpg 918w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></p>
<p>In another benchmark test the Pixel 6 series seems to underperform than the snapdragon 888 based Galaxy S21 Ultra, RedMagic 6S Pro, and Snapdragon Insider Phone. We can see a performance difference of up to 37% with Snapdragon flagship SoC.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3><strong>Conclusion</strong></h3>
<p>Pixel 6 seems to be a major performance upgrade over its predecessor. In terms of efficiency and performance, the Google Tensor SoC outperforms Snapdragon 888 in some aspects like AI, but improvement can be made for an overall better output in all the fields.</p>

<p>The smartphone community has always wondered why the Google Pixel 5 featured a Qualcomm 765G SoC, weaker than <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-4/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pixel 4</a>&#8216;s Snapdragon 855. Well, we might have an answer for you. In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nM6EaR50Tc&amp;t=2s">recent video </a>discussing every Google phone, the famous Youtuber Marques Brownlee revealed that Google was working on Tensor for a long time and wanted to release it earlier.</p>
<p>&#8220;They were actually planning on Pixel 5 being the first phone with Tensor. But then with Covid and the supply chain issues and a bunch of things getting in the way, at the last second they kinda had to bail on that,&#8221; Brownlee claimed.</p>
<p>“But they still wanted to drop a new phone, so they just put a Snapdragon 765G in it, shipped it, called it a day, and kept putting their heads down for Pixel 6.”</p>
<p>Brownlee claimed that through his talks with people at Google, he learned that Google was planning to release the Pixel 5 with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tensor/">Tensor</a> chipset. But with the global pandemic going on, supply chain and many other issues arose, forcing Google to equip the phone with the midrange <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/">Qualcomm</a> Snapdragon 765G SoC and wait out the release of their Tensor chip till next year.</p>
<p>So what would a Tensor-equipped Pixel 5 have looked like? For starters, the processor would&#8217;ve been a significant improvement over the Snapdragon 765G&#8217;s allowing for a smoother performance. We could expect around twice the performance in the GPU department thanks to the Mali-G76 GPU on the Tensor chip.</p>
<p>Alas, the Tensor-based Pixel 5 didn&#8217;t see the light of day, but on the other hand, it gave Google more time to mature and optimize the Tensor chip which they offer in the Pixel 6 lineup.</p>

<p>Andrei Frumusanu of Anandtech has revealed code showing that Google Tensor shares a lot in common with Samsung&#8217;s Exynos chipset (via <a href="https://www.notebookcheck.net/Google-Tensor-s-Exynos-roots-revealed-in-Pixel-6-code.576493.0.html">Notebookcheck</a>). The Tensor has been found to be a mid-point between the Exynos 2100 chip and the upcoming Exynos 2200. Multiple references to the Exynos 9845 (S5E9845) have also been spotted in Google&#8217;s own kernel code. In comparison, the Exynos 2100 is internally referred to as the Exynos 9840 (S5E9840).</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>From code alone, it&#8217;s quite obvious that Google&#8217;s Tensor is more of a heavily-customized <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung">Samsung</a> Exynos than being a completely unique chip built from scratch.</p>
<p>Still, benchmarks have indicated that Google has actually put plenty of stuff of their own in the chipset. A recent benchmark comparing various flagship processors showed that the GPU found on the Tensor is the most powerful in the Android world.</p>
<p>While <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/25/google-tensor-chip-is-even-slower-than-apples-3-year-old-a12-bionic/">CPU</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/27/google-tensor-gets-crushed-by-apple-a15-in-machine-learning/">machine learning</a> benchmarks haven&#8217;t been as satisfying, the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro have aced speed tests, even outperforming other Android flagships in some cases.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>In conclusion, Google Tensor may have a strong relationship with Samsung&#8217;s Exynos, but its real-world performance has proven that it&#8217;s nothing to be concerned about. It would have been a lot cooler though if Google had been more honest.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-421603 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png?x10805" alt="Google" width="1000" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>While the Pixel 6 series has just been released in the market, folks at <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/10/28/second-generation-google-tensor-chip-likely-pixel-7/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>9To5Google</em> </a>recently spotted a reference to a new Pixel related codename, &#8220;Cloudripper.&#8221; In other words, we only have a codename to go on for now, but 9To5Google believes that this might be for the chip that powers the Pixel 7 series rather than the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. So, the Cloudripper could be the internal name used for the developer board that relates to hardware in common between the two smartphone models.</p>
<p>Previously, the codename &#8220;Slider&#8221; was also common between the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro as well. So, Cloudripped could be connected to a second generation version of the Tensor chips from the search engine giant that has a model number &#8220;GS201.&#8221; For those unaware, the Pixel 6 series&#8217; Tensor chips arrived with a &#8220;GS101&#8221; model number. Meaning, the rise of 100 in the model number could very well be the next gen Tensor chips.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-420156 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors.png?x10805" alt="Google" width="828" height="455" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors.png 828w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-300x165.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-768x422.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-696x382.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-764x420.png 764w" sizes="(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px" /></p>
<p>Since the Cloudripper has already been spotted in Pixel related apps right now, it arrives as no surprise that the company might have already began work on the second generation of Tensor GS201 chips. Keep in mind that it is still too early to offer any concrete statements at the moment, so stay tuned for more updates.</p>

The chip has been marketed as going big on machine learning and supplying all the juice needed for stuff like Google&#8217;s improved computational photography and transcription abilities.</p>
<p>Pixel fans have thus been finding solace in thinking that where the Tensor stands weak in terms of performance, it makes up for it by its ML prowess. For the uninitiated, the Pixel 6 is outperformed by the latest Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 phones, and of course, Apple&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/05/apples-a15-chip-found-to-be-faster-than-companys-own-claims/">A15</a> and even <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/20/iphone-se-2022-with-apple-a14-bionic-may-arrive-in-first-half-of-next-year/">A14 Bionic</a> chips.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-420156 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors.png?x10805" alt="" width="828" height="455" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors.png 828w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-300x165.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-768x422.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-696x382.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-colors-764x420.png 764w" sizes="(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px" /></p>
<p>However, in a new test performed by the folks at Notebookcheck, it was found that the Apple A15 Bionic chip even crushes the Google Tensor in the latter&#8217;s greatest strength &#8211; machine learning. The test was done on the new Geekbench ML app that has been developed specifically to measure machine learning performance.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Google">Google</a> Tensor managed to score just 307 in the Geekbench ML TensorFlow Lite CPU test, which is under a third of the Apple A15&#8217;s impressive score of 939. The 307 figure isn&#8217;t terrible by any means but shows that it&#8217;s no match for Apple even after machine learning being the Tensor&#8217;s particular strength.</p>
<p>The test doesn&#8217;t end there though. The A15 scores 2727 in the neural accelerator test while the Tensor scores 1720. The Tensor closes the gap a tiny bit in the GPU test though scoring 1428 while the A15 responds with a higher score of 2727.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-421603 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png?x10805" alt="google tensor featured" width="1000" height="562" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured.png 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/google-tensor-featured-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>All in all, the aggregate score of the A15 stands at 5,934 while Tensor gets 3,455. This means that the A15 is around 71% faster than the Google Tensor in machine learning tasks, at least in benchmark tests. Of course, the real-world performance can turn out to be a different story, but with the gap between the two chips this big, we doubt that will be the case.</p>
<p class="bodytext">We can cut the Tensor some slack here though considering that it&#8217;s actually Google&#8217;s very first self-developed chip. And for a first, it is rather impressive. Moreover, the chip actually managed to beat the Snapdragon 888, Exynos 2100, and Kirin 9000 in GPU benchmark tests as per a <a href="https://twitter.com/Golden_Reviewer/status/1452145665983746056">report</a>.</p>
<p class="bodytext"><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Apple">Apple</a>, on the other hand, has been shipping its custom-built chips in the iPhones for years now giving it a huge headstart.</p>

<p>The search engine giant told <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-6-features-older-pixels-3045948/?utm_source=feedly&amp;utm_medium=webfeeds" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Android Authority </em></a>that it will roll out a few of the new features that arrive with the latest Pixel 6 phones. Some of the new features arriving to the older models include the astrophotography mode, Cinematic Pan option, and Call Screening, and more. Although, the older models will still miss a couple of the new features since the new Pixel 6 series heavily relies on its proprietary <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tensor</a> processor for some of the new features. So, there are technical limitations here on a hardware level.</p>
<p>This includes the new Live Translate, Motion Mode, and others. According to the company&#8217;s representative &#8220;As with all Pixel features, we aim to bring as many features as possible to older Pixels where technically possible — though it might take some time to develop and offer a different experience. Some technologies will require additional technical investments, such as Live Translate, as our on device language models are engineered to run on Pixel 6’s proprietary Tensor chip on TPU (which older Pixel models don’t have).&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-420165 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features-.png?x10805" alt="Google" width="887" height="494" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features-.png 887w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features--300x167.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features--768x428.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features--696x388.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Pixel-6-series-camera-features--754x420.png 754w" sizes="(max-width: 887px) 100vw, 887px" /></p>
<p>While this basically confirms that Google will be launching some features to older Pixel phones, the company has yet to reveal an official date for the roll out of this feature. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.</p>

<p>The performance comparison was provided by 9lekt on Twitter (via <a href="https://wccftech.com/google-tensor-chip-slower-than-a12-bionic/">WCCF Tech</a>) and shows that the Tensor scored 1012 and 2760 in single-core and multi-core tests. This is eclipsed by the 1117 and 2932 scores for both the parameters by the Apple A12 Bionic.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>In other words, Apple&#8217;s three-year-old silicon has beaten Google&#8217;s flagship Tensor at both single-core and multi-core performance. But that&#8217;s not all. The Tensor is already slower when compared to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/13/samsung-exynos-2200-listing-performance-match-sd888/">Snapdragon 888 processor</a> found on most 2021 Android flagships, so one can call the situation a double whammy.</p>
<p>However, all this was quite expected considering pre-launch rumors that had revealed Google&#8217;s plans to favor efficiency over performance with the Tensor. Also, benchmark results only convey half of the story and are in no way an indicator for real-world performance. It is software optimization that matters the most, and Google&#8217;s implementation of Android is known to be one of the snappiest software experiences around.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-404642 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor.png?x10805" alt="Google Tensor" width="795" height="593" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor.png 795w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-300x224.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-768x573.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-696x519.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/google-tensor-563x420.png 563w" sizes="(max-width: 795px) 100vw, 795px" /></p>
<p>With Google&#8217;s control over both hardware and software, combined with enhancements brought along with Android 12, it is likely that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be matching current flagships in terms of performance.</p>
<p>Moreover, flagship <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek">Mediatek</a> chips are known to overheat on some devices, and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Google">Google</a> may thus have sacrificed performance to make the Tensor run cooler and offer better battery life. Although this remains to be seen.</p>
<p>Last but not least, the Tensor has already proven its prowess in the GPU department. It has actually beaten all current Android flagships despite the mediocre CPU performance.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">Google Tensor Soc GPU performance is the best of any Android soc so far. <br />Now only question left is efficiency and sustained performance.<br />Source: <a href="https://t.co/qlYznHEXUO">https://t.co/qlYznHEXUO</a><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GooglePixel6?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#GooglePixel6</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/GooglePixel6Pro?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#GooglePixel6Pro</a> <a href="https://t.co/Fz28CRhR4X">pic.twitter.com/Fz28CRhR4X</a></p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Google may thus have entirely different goals with its new SoC. The California-based company had already shown with its Pixel 6 launch event that Tensor&#8217;s main focus is on fast processing of AI and machine learning algorithms. With features such as ultra-fast and efficient voice typing, advanced camera processing, and more, it is clear that Google is working on making smartphone usage smarter than ever. And Tensor plays a great part in making all of it possible.</p>

Reports indicate that the search engine giant is gearing up to launch the latest Pixel 6-series phones on 19th October but the company is yet to officially confirm this.</p>
<p>While the technology giant has revealed the phones, it is yet to share full details. But ahead of the launch, more details about the Pixel 6 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-6-pro/">Pixel 6 Pro</a> smartphones as well as the Tensor chipset have leaked online.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-411298 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 Pro Teaser" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser.jpeg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Google-Pixel-6-Pro-Teaser-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>It is <a href="https://share.api.weibo.cn/share/253863147.html">being claimed</a> that the Google Pixel 6 features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pro variant is said to have a 6.71-inch QHD+ curved AMOLED display having a 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>Under the hood, both the devices are confirmed to come powered by Google&#8217;s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor">Tensor chipset</a>. The chipset is said to be an unreleased <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> Exynos 9855 SoC.</p>
<p>The standard model is tipped to come with a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL GN1 primary camera along with a 12MP <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> IMX386 ultra-wide-angle lens. On the other hand, the Pro model will have a triple-camera setup consisting of an additional 48MP 4x zoom lens. On the front side, the devices will feature an 8MP snapper for taking selfies and video calling.</p>

The device will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery and it was recently confirmed that the phone will have 33W fast charging support. In the software department, it will be running the latest <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-12">Android 12</a> operating system out-of-the-box.</p>
<p>Recently, the upcoming phone&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/29/pixel-6-pixel-6-pro-pricing-and-color-names-for-the-european-market-leaked/">pricing details in the European market</a> were leaked. It claimed that the Pixel 6 Pro will come in three options such as 12GB RAM + 128GB storage, 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 512GB storage, costing 899 euros, 999 euros and 1,099 euros, respectively.</p>
<p>If the reports are to be believed, then the Pixel 6 series will be launched on 19th October and the first sale <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/01/google-pixel-6-series-launch-28-october/">could take place on 28th October</a>. To know for sure, we will have to wait for a couple of weeks for an official confirmation from Google.</p>

There have been lots of details about the processor with a recent one revealing the CPU and GPU details. Fresh info has now surfaced and it paints a different picture about how powerful the chipset really is.</p>
<p>The folks at <a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/exclusive-google-tensor-specs-in-pixel-6/"><em>XDA-Developers</em></a> have been able to get details of the Tensor chipset from an unnamed source who has a real Pixel 6 Pro in his hands. The source was able to confirm that the Tensor processor does have a 2+2+4 CPU core arrangement. He also confirmed that the frequencies are correct.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-403576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Tensor.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Tensor" width="453" height="558" /></p>
<p>The interesting bit, which is the exact CPU parts, was discovered in a system file and they reveal a major difference in the CPU cores from what was reported earlier. The CPU cores are said to be 2x Arm Cortex-X1 cores clocked at 2.802GHz, 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.53GHz, and 4x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.80GHz. The earlier report had stated that it has the newer 2x Cortex-A78 cores!</p>
<p>It is surprising that the Tensor chip is using Arm&#8217;s older performance cores but the XDA Developers report says that the info was cross-checked against other devices to confirm that they had not misinterpreted the details they got.</p>
<p>Other details confirmed for the Pixel 6 Pro are 12GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS storage, an AV1 decoder that is hardware-accelerated by the Google Tensor chip. It also supports aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth audio codecs as well as Sony&#8217;s LDAC codec.</p>

The upcoming Pixel 6 will sport the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-tensor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tensor</a> chips that are based on a 5nm process produced by Samsung.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-403576 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Tensor.jpg?x10805" alt="Google" width="453" height="558" /></p>
<p>Earlier this week, the search engine giant had announced that its latest Pixel lineup will be powered by a chip developed in house for the first time. As per the company&#8217;s CEO Sundar Pichai, &#8220;Tensor builds off of our 2 decades of computing experience and it&#8217;s our biggest innovation in Pixel to date.&#8221; He further added that these cores will bring &#8220;entirely new features, plus improvements to existing ones,&#8221; along with the &#8220;most innovative AI and machine learning&#8221; technologies as well.</p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Technology/Google-unveils-first-in-house-chip-to-power-new-Pixel-phones" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>NikkeiAsia</em> </a>report, while Google has not revealed who would be manufacturing its new Tensor chips, sources close to the matter have revealed that the South Korean tech giant Samsung will be its production partner and the new chips are based on a 5nm fabrication process. In other words, the chip will use the same advanced process as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Snapdragon 888</a> SoC from Qualcomm.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-403573 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 series featured" width="4096" height="4096" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured.jpg 4096w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1068x1068.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-420x420.jpg 420w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1920x1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4096px) 100vw, 4096px" /></p>
<p>We had known the Google is working on its own chipset for a while now, under the codename &#8220;Whitechapel.&#8221; But now, the Tensor cores have been unveiled and the news regarding a 5nm chip hints at its improved power efficiency and performance over the last gen Pixel 5 lineup. Notably, the Tensor chip has been in development for four years and has been designed &#8220;specifically for Pixels.&#8221;</p>

The phones are set to be officially launched in the fall of this year.</p>
<p>While the Google Pixel 6 series will go on sale in fall this year in select countries, the phones won&#8217;t be available for purchase in one of the world&#8217;s largest mobile phone markets. Google has revealed a list of markets where the upcoming smartphones will be available for purchase and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/india">India</a> isn&#8217;t on that list.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-403573 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 series featured" width="4096" height="4096" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured.jpg 4096w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1068x1068.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-420x420.jpg 420w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Google-Pixel-6-series-featured-1920x1920.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4096px) 100vw, 4096px" /></p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t surprising given that the company has not been launching its main Pixel series smartphones in the Indian market for the past couple of years. The Pixel 4 series and the Pixel 5 series were also not made available in India. However, the cheaper variant, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-4a/">Pixel 4a</a>, was launched in the Indian market.</p>
<p>As per the list revealed by Google, the Pixel 6 series smartphones will be available in eight countries &#8212; Australia, Canada, France, Japan, France, Taiwan, the US, and the UK. It may expand to other regions later. While the markets are now known, the pricing and availability details still remain under the wrap.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> has not yet revealed the full set of specifications of these new phones but has confirmed some key details. The Pixel 6 comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display offering a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display offering a 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>The standard model features a dual-camera setup on the back while the Pixel 6 Pro has a triple-camera setup &#8212; a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 4x telephoto lens. This time, the photography performance could top the charts given that the chipset is said to be focused on photo output and use <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai">artificial intelligence</a> and machine learning.</p>
<p>Talking about the chipset, the highlight of the Pixel 6 series remains its processor. The phones are powered by Google&#8217;s own chipset &#8212; Tensor, which is made especially for Pixel devices. Apart from on-device AI and ML capability, the chip is also claimed to have significant improvement in translation, captioning, and dictation. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel-6">Pixel 6 series</a> will also feature the most layers of hardware security in any phone.</p>

<p>The official “Made By Google” Twitter account made a thread that gives a rundown of the design and features of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro ahead of their release later this fall. There is so much info, and if you are a Pixel fan, you should be excited.</p>
<h5><strong>Design</strong></h5>
<p>Starting with the design. Google has confirmed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/14/google-pixel-6-and-pixel-6-pro-renders-reveal-its-refreshed-rear-design/">the CAD renders</a> we saw back in May are accurate. The Pixel 6 series will indeed have that protruding camera bar, however, the space above the bar is bigger on the pro model. The two phones will also have a centered punch hole camera.</p>
<p>The camera bar will house three cameras on the Pixel 6 Pro, one of which is a telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom. The Pixel 6 gets two cameras, none of which has a telephoto lens.</p>
<p>There will be a SIM tray slot at the bottom of the left side of the frame while the power button and volume control will be on the right side of the frame. The frame is curved and we can confirm it is made of metal as there are antenna lines visible around it.</p>
<p>

<h5><strong>Google Tensor</strong></h5>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/25/google-pixel-6-custom-chip-similar-to-snapdragon-870/">Google chipset codenamed “whitechapel”</a> now has an official name and it is Google Tensor. This is Google&#8217;s first smartphone SoC and its main strength is its ability to process powerful AI and machine learning models directly on the device. Google says we should “see a transformed experience for the camera, speech recognition, and many other Pixel 6 features.”</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Google also claims that the processor allows for significant improvement in translation, captioning, and dictation. The Pixel 6 series will also feature the most layers of hardware security (based on the count of separate hardware security layers) in any phone.</p>
<h5><strong><br />
Software</strong></h5>
<p>Google will show the full range of its Material You design on the Pixel 6 series and the video below shows the themes, new widgets, and color schemes that will be available on the phones.</p>
