Earlier this week, Asus started taking pre-orders for a new Wi-Fi 6 router variant. The Mobile Suit Gundam Special Edition router is being sold for the RT-AX82U and RT-AX86U models and are priced at 1,199 Yuan (roughly 170 US Dollars) and 1,699 Yuan (roughly 242 US Dollars) respectively.

Looking at the new limited edition Wi-Fi 6 routers, we can see that RT-AX82U model perfectly resembles the main Gundam unit from the popular and iconic Mobile Suit Gundam series with its white, red, and blue color schemes. For those unaware, the anime is set in the distant future and feature giant fighting mechs (manned robots).

Similarly, the RT-AX86U fits the main antagonist’s color scheme and also supports Wi-Fi 6. Under the hood, the RT-AX82U Wi-Fi router sports high performance multi core processors and offers a peak bandwidth of 5,700Mbps. It is equipped with a 2.5G port and supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 standards. It also features AURA RGB gaming lighting effects as well. Unfortunately, these routers are only available in a limited quantity of 500 units and will go on sale from 3rd August 2020.

In our test, when playing PUBG Mobile, it can easily maintain the highest framerate with the highest-graphic setting. Once the games like PUBG Mobile open their framerate limitation, such kind of phones with high refresh-rate display would absolutely become the most popular gaming phones.

65W Fast Charging

The 4000mAh battery with 65W superfast charging makes the phone become one of the smartphones with the best endurance performance. In our test, you can get a full charge for this 4000mAh battery only in around 30mins. By charging it only for 5 minutes, the battery can gain 27 percent power. And the Reno Ace has pretty good charging compatibility. It also supports other rapid charging technologies like USB-PD and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge.

Cameras

As for the camera combination, the OPPO Reno Ace brought 4 rear cameras to meet different photography requirements. A 48MP SONY IMX586 camera for primary use, a 13MP telephoto camera with 5x hybrid zoom capacity, an 8MP super-wide-angle camera and a 2MP monochrome camera.

The OPPO Reno maintains its likable color style with high saturation. Meanwhile, 48MP resolution provides good sharpness for daily shooting. The wide-angle camera is quite practical for landscape photography. But a problem is that the color differences between the primary camera and the wide-angle camera are a bit obvious. For some night scenes, Reno Ace provides a night mode to balance the general exposure. From the sample, it did achieve a better brightness in general but still had overexposure at some extremely bright detail.

Oppo has scheduled a launch event in China on 10th October where the company will be launching its new flagship smartphone — Oppo Reno Ace. Now, it has been confirmed that along with the standard version, a new variant of the phone will also get launched.

Shen Yiren, Vice President of Oppo has teased on Oppo that he has been using a new smartphone that has not been photographed yet. He further added that the phone is the version that was previously mentioned — GUNDAM.

While he has not revealed what the smartphone will be called, it is being speculation that the upcoming custom edition Reno Ace smartphone could be named Oppo Reno Ace GUNDAM Edition but this hasn’t been confirmed yet.

A few months ago, Oppo partnered with Gundam, a Japanese science fiction media franchise created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise that features giant robots with the name “Gundam”. It was reported that under this collaboration, Oppo will be launching a special edition smartphone.

The Oppo Reno Ace GUNDAM Edition is expected to get launched along with the Reno Ace on 10th October in China. While the specifications of the Reno Ace have leaked online, there’s no information available about its pricing and availability so far.

The Oppo Reno Ace with model number PCLM10 was recently certified by TENAA agency, measuring 161 x 75.7 x 8.7mm and weighing 200 grams. The handset has a 6.5-inch AMOLED display that carries support for Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and is claimed to have 90Hz refresh rate.

The 2.96GHz Snapdragon 855 mobile platform powers the smartphone and the processor is coupled with up to 12GB RAM. The phone has 128GB of internal storage but doesn’t feature a microSD card slot for expanding the storage capacity.

In the camera department, the phone will come equipped with Sony IMX586 48-megapixel + 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera system on the back and on the front side, there will be a 16-megapixel snapper.

The Reno Ace is expected to come powered by a 4,000mAh battery and the company has already confirmed that the smartphone will come equipped with 65W SuperVOOC rapid charging technology.

A collaboration between a smartphone company and another brand for a limited edition device has become a trend nowadays. A special edition smartphone gets launched more frequently now than earlier for the promotion of a particular project.

In a similar move, Oppo is partnering with Gundam and under this collaboration, the company will be launching a special edition smartphone which is expected to be named Oppo Reno Gundam Edition.

However, the company is yet to officially announced this development. But, thanks to the leakster Ice Universe, render of this upcoming smartphone has been leaked online, which revels the phone’s design.

It shows that the smartphone will have minimal bezels surrounding the display and will come with a dot-notch or a cut-out on the display for housing the front-facing camera. On the back side, the phone will have a dual camera setup in the top-center position.

The leaked render also reveals the unique back panel design of the smartphone. However, there’s no information available about the phone’s specifications at this point in time. Since the render has been leaked, we expect the smartphone to go official in the coming weeks.
