<p>A recent report suggested that both the companies will be ditching their operating system names and will rather go for a unified OS with one name which is rumored to be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/27/h2oos-may-replace-oxygenos-and-coloros-in-the-future/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">H2OOS</a>. Now, OnePlus has just <a href="https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/join-our-online-oef-oxygenos-13.1544738/?irclickid=27VVFCUHzxyITNL1Fv0EiyDdUkGUf%3ATALXwzyI0&amp;irgwc=1&amp;utm_source=impact&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_content=digidip%20GmbH&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_campaign=14042" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">confirmed</a> that they are working on the OxygenOS 13 based on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-13/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android 13</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-413923 aligncenter td-animation-stack-type0-2" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-691x1024.png?x44794" alt="Unified and Upgraded Operating System for OnePlus and OPPO Phones" width="613" height="908" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-691x1024.png 691w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-203x300.png 203w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-768x1138.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-696x1031.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-1068x1582.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-284x420.png 284w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones.png 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 613px) 100vw, 613px" /></p>
<p>This latest revelation throws a wrench in the current rumors and narrative that the brand will be ditching the OxygenOS name altogether. However, OnePlus has previously stated that at some point they will start offering a unified global operating system across all their devices, so it may be that the upcoming unified OS name change will still happen, but will likely be delayed than the previous rumors suggest.</p>
<p>The latest announcement is in regard to discussing OxygenOS 13 on the Open Ears Forum with their userbase in an effort to create the perfect OxygenOS for OnePlus smartphones. The event is scheduled for February 28, 19:30 &#8211; 21:30 HKT (17:00 &#8211; 19:00 IST, 13:30 &#8211; 15:30 CEST, 7:30 &#8211; 9:30 EST). Following this, HydrogenOS was ditched in China in favor of ColorOS and OxygenOS became nothing but a rebranded ColorOS.</p>
<p>But OnePlus has not settled just yet and recently announced the launch of a unified OS. A new report has now revealed some additional information about it.</p>
<p>While the official announcement stated that the unified and upgraded global operating system will be launched sometime in 2022, tipster Yogesh Brar (via <a href="https://www.mysmartprice.com/gear/oneplus-unifiedos-development-announcement-h2-2022/">MySmartPrice</a>) says that it will be during the second half of the year. The OS, which is reportedly still in its early development phase, has also been revealed to launch alongside the OnePlus flagship handset.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-413923 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-691x1024.png?x44794" alt="Unified and Upgraded Operating System for OnePlus and OPPO Phones" width="691" height="1024" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-691x1024.png 691w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-203x300.png 203w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-768x1138.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-696x1031.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-1068x1582.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones-284x420.png 284w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Unified-and-Upgraded-Operating-System-for-OnePlus-and-OPPO-Phones.png 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 691px) 100vw, 691px" /></p>
<p>Some may think that the handset in question is the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/18/oneplus-10-pro-full-review-good-but-not-a-qualified-successor/">OnePlus 10 Pro</a>, but the device has already been launched in China running ColorOS 12.1, so that&#8217;s out of the question.</p>
<p>Yogesh further revealed that the unified OS will be based on Android 13. This is quite reasonable considering an H2 2022 launch date sits well with Android 13&#8217;s expected release date.</p>
<p>Some rumors have suggested that the upcoming OnePlus unified operating system could be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/27/h2oos-may-replace-oxygenos-and-coloros-in-the-future/">called H2OOS</a>, although that&#8217;s yet to be confirmed officially. Not much is known about it at the moment but an official infographic from last year had revealed that it combines the best bits of ColorOS and OxygenOS.</p>

<h3><b>OnePlus phones might run H₂OOS in the near future</b></h3>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">On January 27, popular Indian tech influencer Mukul Sharma </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/27/h2oos-may-replace-oxygenos-and-coloros-in-the-future/"><span style="font-weight: 400">tweeted</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> that the unified operating system of OPPO and OnePlus could be called H₂OOS. Since his claim is based on a trademark filing by OnePlus, he could be wrong.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, the H₂OOS (Water OS) trademark is interesting as it combines the names of OxygenOS (O₂) and the discontinued HydrogenOS (H₂OS). The name has no mention of ColorOS, which the software will be actually based on.</span></p>
<p>Furthermore, a couple of days before this tweet, a tipster <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/01/25/oneplus-10-ultra-rumored-to-be-first-superphone/">stated</a> that the OnePlus 10 Ultra could debut in H2 2022 as the brand&#8217;s first superphone or ultra-premium smartphone. The device is said to house OPPO&#8217;s MariSilicon NPU.</p>
