HarmonyOS 4 beta program announced for Huawei Watch GT 3, Watch Buds, and 7 other watches

Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 4 in August. Since then, the company has been rolling out the update to eligible devices.

Now, as the company is almost done with the rollout of the software for phones, it is focussing on delivering the update to older wearables.

Recently, the firm announced the beta program for a bunch of smartwatches. Let’s go through the details.

Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro

Huawei has started recruiting HarmonyOS 4 beta testers for 9 of its older smartwatches. This program is limited to China.

The below-listed wearables for eligible for the initiative.

The beta program for the aforementioned devices is divided into two versions: log and nolog. The latter has more number of seats than the former.

Once enrolled in the initiative, users cannot revert to the regular stable channel. In the following weeks, they will receive multiple builds, such as closed beta, open beta, and stable. At last, they will receive the public stable release.

Thus, if you have the Chinese variant of any of these watches and want to try out HarmonyOS 4 beta, we recommend you not to. It’s better to wait for the official release of the update.

Unfortunately, we don’t have info on a similar program for global users. Anyways, all eligible devices should get the update in the coming days.

Some older Honor smartphones will get HarmonyOS 4 update soon

Huawei HarmonyOS 4 has made headlines again as it begins rolling out to older Honor models, a move that has garnered praise from users. The models receiving the update include the Honor 30, Honor 30 Pro, Honor 30 Pro+, Honor V30, Honor V30 Pro, and Honor Play4 Pro. Users of these models can apply for the HarmonyOS 4 Beta upgrade via “My Huawei.”

HarmonyOS has shown impressive development, progressing from version 2.0 to 4.0 in just a few years, significantly improving the user experience. This growth underscores that the smartphone market is no longer limited to Android and iOS, with Huawei’s HarmonyOS gaining traction.

HarmonyOS 4 has seen rapid adoption, with 5 million users within two weeks of its launch, including 1 million on the first day. It offers personalized themes, an enhanced notification center, and a “Live Window” feature for real-time alerts.

Wang Chenglu, CEO of Shenzhen Kaihong Digital Industry Development, hinted at an official HarmonyOS release for PCs next year, potentially competing with Microsoft’s rumored Windows 12. HarmonyOS has already shown its compatibility on an HP notebook, running smoothly with adapted drivers.

With HarmonyOS gaining momentum and expanding its ecosystem, it is poised to secure a significant share of the future market, challenging the dominance of established operating systems.

HarmonyOS 4.0 reaches over 60 million Huawei devices in less than 2 months

Huawei unveiled HarmonyOS 4.0, the latest version of its operating system, on August 4. The new iteration brought several changes to the user interface, as well as new features and improvements. Huawei has been quickly rolling out the new software to eligible devices. Earlier this month, we reported that 10 million Huawei smartphones and tablets were already running HarmonyOS 4.0. And today, the company confirmed that the OS has now made its way to over 60 million devices.

Huawei announced 60 million installations of HarmonyOS 4 on Huawei smartphones and tablet devices at its Autumn 2023 Flagship Product Launch event today. The company said it added an average of 1.2 million new users each day. This is just after less than 2 months of the formal announcement of the software.

HarmonyOS 4.0 comes with several notable changes, including a variety of rich theme templates and stylized layout designs. You can select the colors of your app icons and set emoji wallpapers and home screens by choosing your favorite emoji.

It also lets you better manage your notifications by clustering them together and sorting them by importance. The notifications for the same app are now stacked into dynamic cards so you can see more information about each notification without having to open it. HarmonyOS 4.0 also lets you identify text and images by double-clicking and then long-pressing to select them.

Huawei had a busy day today. It launched half a dozen new products in China, including a Huawei Mate 60 RS Ultimate Design smartphone with satellite calling and a ceramic body. In addition, the company unveiled the FreeBuds Pro 3 as well as the Watch GT 4.

Huawei recently launched the HarmonyOS 4 official beta in China. Over 5 million devices installed the update within two weeks of its launch. However, only a few Huawei phones have the stable version for now. Huawei is working on improving the beta version for other devices so that more people can get a stable update later on. In the upcoming update, new visuals and interactive experiences will be introduced. For instance, you’ll have the option to set your favorite emoji as wallpapers and customize the app’s icon to fit your device’s layout. The update will also include a Parental Control system, allowing users to monitor their child’s device using a Huawei ID.

Furthermore, notifications from the same app will be intelligently grouped together, providing more comprehensive details without the need to open each notification individually.

Huawei’s latest operating system, HarmonyOS 4.0, was unveiled earlier this month. The company opened the beta program in China, allowing over 36 phone and tablet users to try out the new features before the official release. Impressively, within just two weeks of its release, HarmonyOS 4 has already been installed on 5 million devices, with a remarkable 1 million users upgrading to this new operating system on its very first day.

He Gang, Chief Operating Officer of Huawei Devices BG, shared the latest stats on HarmonyOS 4 on his Weibo account. He said that the new operating system brings new visuals and interactive experiences, such as personalized themes, which have been well-received by users.

Gang also added that HarmonyOS 4 is not only fun and personalized, but it also helps users get information more efficiently through its new notification center and “Live Window” feature.

For those unaware, HarmonyOS 4 has a new feature called Live Window, which is similar to Apple’s Dynamic Island. Supported apps will show real-time alerts and notifications in a pill-shaped icon on the corner of your device. You can then tap the icon to expand the window and interact with the app.

Live Window is available on smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, and it works with a variety of Huawei apps, as well as third-party apps from a growing list of developers. There are a bunch of other features in HarmonyOS 4 which you can learn from here.

The HarmonyOS 4 public beta is now available from Huawei for a range of 34 devices, including the Mate 50 series, P60 series, and Mate X3. A further 35 devices, including the P40, Mate 30, Nova 9, and Nova 10 series, will be added to the beta program later on.

Huawei is rolling out HarmonyOS 4.0 in China. Earlier this week, we covered the phones and tablets which are eligible for Huawei’s latest OS update. You can check out the complete list by clicking here. According to the latest reports that have emerged online, two of the flagships, the P60 and Mate 50, have received the stable HarmonyOS 4 update. Here are the improvements and features you can expect from the update.

HarmonyOS 4.0 new features

With this update, users will now be able to set their favorite emoji as wallpapers and choose the colors of their app icons to match the device’s layout. This OS will allow users to sort the notifications by priority and group them together. For instance, notifications from the same app will be grouped together, providing more details about each without the need to open them individually. Additionally, users can now quickly highlight and select text and images by double-clicking. Holding down will enable you to store these selections in the Super Transfer Station, allowing convenient temporary storage or sharing of multiple items simultaneously.

The OS will come with a Parental Control system allowing you to view the location of your child’s device with the help of Huawei ID. The privacy center allows you to refine application tracking activities for specific applications and disable tracking for specified applications.

Huawei Watch 4 Pro users can now play games with HarmonyOS 4 update, beta testing begins

After Incorporating features such as free diving support, a playground running mode, and compatibility with Huawei S-TAG exercise trackers through the HarmonyOS 3.1.0.168 update, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro will now get more fun features with the HarmonyOS 4 update.

HarmonyOS 4 will provide users with new interactable watch faces and themes, meaning the smartwatch will have more appealing animations and features on touch, improving the user experience. HarmonyOS 4 introduces many playable games that you can play on your wrist without bringing out your smartphone. One of them is a floating astronaut game, which is an endless obstacle game much like Temple Run where you have to save your character from the objects that are in the way. You can simply press Go, and the game will begin, where you have to save your character from the objects that are in the way. You can play this game without unlocking the watch at any time.

For those unaware, Huawei launched HarmonyOS 4 on August 4, 2023, which is currently in the beta testing phase. Huawei Watch 4 Pro users can apply to join the beta testing through the “My Huawei” App, available with Huawei mobile phones and tablets. One thing to note here is that the “My Huawei” App should be updated to the latest version; otherwise, beta testing will not be accessible.

Aside from the HarmonyOS 4 update, Huawei recently launched the Huawei Watch 4 Pro Ocean color option in Europe last month. The watch strap is crafted of fishing nets made of Fluoroelastomer material, much different from the original variant that had Titanium and Leather strap options. The Huawei Watch 4 Pro also offers eSIM/LTE connectivity, making it convenient for quick calling, replies, and navigation.
