<p>Notably, the news arrives just days after an executive of the Chinese home appliance maker announced that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/05/28/midea-launch-most-products-huawei-harmonyos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">most of its smart products</a> will feature the smartphone brand&#8217;s proprietary operating system. The former had even announced that it would be cooperating with Huawei for its HarmonyOS (also known as HongMengOS in China) back in 2020.</p>
<p>Just recently, Midea had even launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/09/midea-launch-worlds-first-refrigerator-huawei-harmonyos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">world&#8217;s first smart refrigerator that supports the HarmonyOS</a>. The company added that its products launching with the new OS will also enable it to offer its customers more value and better services as well. Furthermore, the HarmonyOS platform was built with multi device support and cross platform integration as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-393145 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo-.png?x23692" alt="Huawei" width="1423" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo-.png 1423w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--696x391.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--1068x600.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/HarmonyOS-logo--747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1423px) 100vw, 1423px" /></p>
<p>This means that its ecosystem is designed to work in a smart home, where multiple IoT (internet of things) products are connected to one another and can be controlled by the user remotely through a smartphone or a smart hub. The company has already launched various products with HarmonyOS, with new releases including the likes of dehumidifiers, refrigerators, and more. This number is likely to rise further with new launches in the near future.</p>

Huawei is expected to officially launch its homegrown HarmonyOS operating system for smartphones as a viable alternative to Android.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo.png?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-392248" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo.png?x23692" alt="" width="785" height="496" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo.png 785w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo-300x190.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo-768x485.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo-696x440.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-logo-665x420.png 665w" sizes="(max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px" /></a></p>
<p>A list of Huawei devices migrating to the platform has now surfaced online. The leaked list includes the Mate 40 series (Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+, Mate 40 RS), Mate X2, and MatePad Pro. We would certainly see more devices joining the bandwagon, and this is expected to be pretty rapid. However, Huawei will formally announce the devices that will be among the first to migrate to the new platform on June 2, just days away.</p>
<p>The company hopes to achieve more than a quarter of a billion devices running on HarmonyOS by the year’s end. The bulk of the projected devices that will ultimately rely on the Android alternative will come from existing devices that migrate to the new platform, while a fraction will come from new devices. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-2.png?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-392251" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-2.png?x23692" alt="" width="565" height="514" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-2.png 565w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-2-300x273.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/harmonyos-2-462x420.png 462w" sizes="(max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei’s HarmonyOS is a product borne out of the extended and stringent sanctions imposed on the Chinese company by the US government. The sanctions saw Huawei&#8217;s smartphone business gasping for breath as Washington tightened the noose.</p>
<p>The release of an alternative platform to Google’s Android has significant ramifications in the short term. It could signal the beginning of some level of independence and over-reliance on suppliers from the United States for critical software components. Huawei has so far been able to shield the HarmonyOS from prying eyes since not much is known about the platform. However, it may not be significantly different from the current Android 11 in terms of the user interface and design functionality.</p>
