Now, it has been confirmed that the feature is available for iOS as well.</p>
<p>The Google Fit application on iOS for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone">iPhone</a> will now be able to record the user&#8217;s heart rate along with the respiratory rate, <a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/12/24/google-fit-iphone-camera-heart/">reports <em>9to5Google</em></a>. The feature will also work when the smartphone doesn’t have an active internet connection.</p>
<figure id="attachment_433213" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-433213" style="width: 1000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-433213 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate.jpeg?x10805" alt="Google Fit Heart Rate Monitoring for iOS" width="1000" height="500" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate.jpeg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-300x150.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-768x384.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-696x348.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Google-Fit-iOS-Heart-Rate-840x420.jpeg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-433213" class="wp-caption-text">Image Credit: 9to5Google</figcaption></figure>
<p>For this feature to work, the device&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera</a> is used. When users place their finger on the rear camera sensor of the device and apply slight pressure, Google fit can track the incoming light in the sensor to gauge the heart rate.</p>
<p>Users can also place their hand in front of a light source and allow Google Fit to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/heart-rate">measure their heartbeat</a> by tracking what the company says are subtle changes in the color of the user&#8217;s fingers. It takes about 30 seconds to show users a graph with beats per minute.</p>
<p>After the results are shown on the screen, users also have an option to save the vitals. Google claims that the accuracy of the process is determined by algorithms that also account for factors like age and skin tone, among others.</p>
<p>The feature was first introduced in February this year but was initially limited to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel">Pixel lineup of smartphones</a> and gradually the company added support for more devices. Now with support for iOS devices, it has expanded to more devices.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-music-play-independent.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-286854" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-music-play-independent.jpg?x10805" alt="Mi Watch music play independent" width="690" height="920" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-music-play-independent.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-music-play-independent-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-music-play-independent-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>Independent music playback isn&#8217;t new on smartwatches. Even <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amazfit">Amazfit&#8217;s</a> Pace lineup offers this particular feature and personally, I find it very useful as I don&#8217;t have to carry my smartphone around for music. However, the Mi Watch could make things even more interesting as it features an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/esim">eSIM</a> which means you can ditch your phone most of the time.</p>

<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-Smart-Home-control.jpg?x10805'><img width="690" height="920" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-Smart-Home-control.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="Mi Watch Smart Home control" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-Smart-Home-control.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-Smart-Home-control-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-Smart-Home-control-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a>
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-heart-rate.jpg?x10805'><img width="690" height="920" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-heart-rate.jpg?x10805" class="attachment-large size-large" alt="Mi Watch heart rate" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-heart-rate.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-heart-rate-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Mi-Watch-heart-rate-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MI-watch">Mi Watc</a>h will also, unsurprisingly, come with a heart rate sensor and smart home controls. You also get a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/31/xiaomi-mi-watch-will-have-replaceable-straps-in-multiple-color-options/">replaceable fluororubber strap in multiple color options</a>.</p>
<p>The Mi Watch will come with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI">MIUI</a> for Watch OS. You will be able to install a number of different apps on the watch. As for the hardware, the Mi Watch will come feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/29/xiaomis-upcoming-smartwatch-to-feature-snapdragon-3100-chipset-confirms-teaser/">Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor</a> with connectivity options such as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/29/this-is-the-xiaomi-smartwatch-its-heavily-inspired-by-the-apple-watch/">Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and even an eSIM</a>. The watch is confirmed to feature speakers which means you should be able to make and receive calls on the watch, just like a smartphone.</p>
<h6></h6>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-182587" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/mediatek-heart-rate-measurement.png?x10805" alt="MediaTek heart rate measurement" width="1793" height="759" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/mediatek-heart-rate-measurement.png 1793w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/mediatek-heart-rate-measurement-300x127.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/mediatek-heart-rate-measurement-768x325.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/mediatek-heart-rate-measurement-1024x433.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1793px) 100vw, 1793px" /></p>
<p>The latest Everyday Story is of a team of two who found a way to measure heart rate without the need for touching the patient. Yu-Ting Chen and Tung-Chien Chen who both work for MediaTek developed the procedure using smartphones powered by MediaTek&#8217;s Helio P10 and Helio X20 processors.</p>
<p>The common way to record the heart rate of an individual is by feeling the pulse and this requires you to touch the individual. The team of two found out that you can also measure the heart rate by using a smartphone&#8217;s camera.</p>
<p>According to their findings, when the heart beats and pumps blood, your skin flushes slightly. Using the camera of a phone powered by a Helio P10 or Helio X20 processor, these slight changes in skin color can be recorded thanks to MediaTek&#8217;s visual processing technology. The recorded data is then translated with a visual processing app that provides the result (heart rate) in a few seconds.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff0000;">READ MORE:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/03/24/report-helio-p60-chipset-will-steer-mediateks-q2-2018-sales/">Report: Helio P60 Chipset Will Steer MediaTek’s Q2 2018 Sales</a><span id="more-182586"></span></p>
<p>While this technology is commendable, we don&#8217;t think it is perfect. Sudden skin color changes are easily noticed in people with low melanin. So, for dark skinned people, this will most probably not work.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, the technology comes in handy with the recent development in remote diagnostics. It is also useful in places where expensive equipment for health monitoring isn&#8217;t available.</p>
