The listing reveals that the smartphone is powered by an unannounced MediaTek SoC. In the previous month, an unidentified Xiaomi phone called Xiaomi Cereus was also spotted with the same SoC. It seems that the Cactus could be lower variant of the Cereus phone.

According to the Geekbench listing, the Xiaomi Cactus is running on Android 8.1.0 Oreo. It is powered by MediaTek MT6765 SoC that features a quad-core processor that clocks at 2.0 GHz along with 2 GB of RAM. In single-core test, the Xiaomi Cactus has scored 802 and it has recorded a score of 2334 in the multi-core test.

There seems to be some error with the processor information of the Xiaomi Cactus as the Geekbench listing of the Xiaomi Cereus had revealed that the MT6765 chipset has 2.0 GHz octa-core processor. The Xiaomi Cereus phone has 3 GB of RAM and it is loaded with Android 8.1.0 Oreo. It could be the higher edition of the Xiaomi Cactus. As far as the unknown MediaTek chipset is concerned, some reports have claimed that the MT6765 could be the Helio P40 SoC.

The Redmi 4 series includes Redmi 4A, Redmi 4, Redmi 4 Pro and Redmi 4X. So far Xiaomi has released Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus phones in the Redmi 5 series. Last year, Xiaomi had debuted the Redmi 4X in February. Hence, the company is expected to Redmi 5X phone soon. The Cactus and Cereus phones could be the 2 GB and 3 GB RAM editions of the alleged Redmi 5X.

It is advisable to take this report with grain of salt as there is no direct evidence to confirm that Xiaomi Cactus is the Redmi 5X phone. What’s your opinion on the mysterious Cactus phone? Ulefone, a domestic smartphone brand from China has now confirmed that it will be introducing the Ulefone T2 Pro as the world’s first smartphone powered by MediaTek Helio P70. Below is the official MWC 2018 invitation for the launch of Ulefone T2 Pro.

The above image shows that the Helio P70 chipset will be seen first on a Ulefone smartphone that sports a notch enabled full screen design like the iPhone X. The company has confirmed the name of the device as Ulefone T2 Pro.

Shown below is the render of the upcoming Ulefone T2 Pro. It reveals that the smartphone would be sporting an impressive full screen design with a notch that is smaller than iPhone X. Because of the notch, the screen of the T2 Pro will be delivering an aspect ratio of 19:9 and screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels like the iPhone X. As of this writing, there is no information available on the other specs of the phone. The handset will be sporting glass panels on front and rear sides with a metallic frame placed in between. The rear panel has a horizontally arranged dual camera setup.

The Helio P70 from the Taiwanese chip maker is said to be a 12nm chipset manufactured by TSMC. The octa-core chipset has four cores of Cortex A73 running at 2.5 GHz and four cores of Cortex A53 clocking at 2.0 GHz. The chipset also rumored to feature Mali-G72 MP4 800 MHz graphics and carry support for eMMC 5.1, UFS 2.1 dual-channel LPDDR4x 3733 RAM of up to 8 GB and Cat. 12 LTE modem. It is also expected to come with some support for AI capabilities.

The MediaTek Helio P70 powered Ulefone T2 Pro is expected to deliver stellar performance as the chipset was recently spotted with an impressive average benchmarking score of 156,906 on AnTuTu. The performance of the Helio P70 seems to be much better than Snapdragon 660 by Qualcomm. It appears that the Helio P70 has been designed to take on the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset.

The company is reportedly working on Helio P40 and Helio P70 chipsets that are rumored to get unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in the coming month. These chipsets will be reportedly powering the forthcoming low-budget phones from Xiaomi, Meizu, Vivo and other domestic brands. Fresh information suggests that the Helio P38 is also an upcoming low-budget chipset from the company.

The rumor mill had leaked the details of MediaTek Helio P40 and Helio P70 chipsets at the end of the previous month. Among these, the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset has spotted with an impressive benchmarking score of 157,000 on AnTuTu. Reports claim that it has been designed to take on the upcoming Snapdragon 670 chipset by Qualcomm.

Apart from Helio P40 and Helio P70, the company is also expected to announce the Helio P38 chipset in the near future. It will be slightly lower performing chipset compared to the Helio P40. The Helio P38 octa-core chipset is expected to feature four cores of Cortex A73 and four cores of Cortex A53. It will deliver a maximum clocking speed of 1.8 GHz. The better performing Helio P40 promises to deliver processing speeds of 2.0 GHz.

The octa-core processor of the Helio P38 will be coupled with Mali-G72 MP3 graphics with a reduced clocking speed of around 700 MHz or 650 MHz. Even though the Helio P38 is said to be a lower frequency chipset, it has been reportedly built to consume less power and produce less heat. Hence, it is speculated that in terms of performance like gaming, it may even outperform the Helio P40 or P70.

MediaTek Helio P38 chipset is rumored to take on the Snapdragon 632 that may power the Redmi Note 5. It is speculated that the Helio P38 driven smartphones will be carrying a price tag of 799 Yuan.

The Taiwan-based MediaTek Inc. had released the Helio X30 (MT6799) system-on chip built with 10nm FinFET processing technology in Q1 2017. According to industry sources, MediaTek’s Helio P series chipsets will be powering the mid-range and high-end smartphones in the first half of this year. Since the smartphone industry will soon see the advent of the 5G mobile communication era, MediaTek is speculated to launch a flagship smartphone chipset in the second half of this year.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is expected to build at least three new 7nm chipsets for MediaTek. This indicates how determined it is to become the numero uno chipset manufacturing company. As many of its customers such as OPPO, Vivo, Sony, LG and other smartphone makers from emerging nations are getting ready to embrace the upcoming 5G technology, the Taiwan-based chip making company has been actively working on AI enabled chipsets. As mentioned above, the company is heavily pegged to debut new chipsets for flagship phones in second half of this year.

At the beginning of 2017, MediaTek had released Helio X10, Helio X20 and Helio X30 chipsets for high-end smartphones. Even though the Taiwanese firm provided advanced technology at cheaper price compared to rivaling chipset making companies such as Qualcomm, it could not succeed in bagging many customers.

The probable reason why it failed to attract major customers like Apple, Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi is that these companies have been developing their own in-house chipsets for their smartphones. Moreover, most of the leading smartphone vendors are interested in using Qualcomm’s chipsets. This is speculated to be the reason why MediaTek decided to halt the production of its Helio X series chipsets. Also, in order to prevent the gross margins of chipsets from falling down, MediaTek had to stop the related investments in the latter half of last year.

Recent reports have revealed that the upcoming Helio P-series chipsets from MediaTek are the Helio P40 and Helio P70. The move wasn’t surprising given that its flagship chip of 2017, the Helio X30 failed to garner attention from the big players, except for Meizu, who used it inside the Pro 7 Plus flagship. But considering how even the Pro 7 Plus didn’t do so well, we can only assume that the overall sales of the new chipset has been disappointing this year.

Now, MediaTek’s Deputy General Manager, Kuan Chou Chen, revealed in the year end media meet that the company will launch two new P-series processors in 2018. The performance of the two chips is said to be impressive but the focus will be on advanced AI, edge computing, and computer vision technologies. This includes facial recognition tech, which has become the sought after feature in the past few months. Apart from facial recognition, advanced computer vision will enable better AR / VR and 3D sensing capabilities of the chip.

While it is said that the performance of the new Helio P-series family is going to be impressive, the executive failed to give out any specific details. An earlier rumour has said that the Helio P40 chip will feature two powerful Cortex A73 cores in an hexa-core architecture. Traditionally, MTK has been a big fan of large number of cores in its chipsets, so it remains to be seen if the company scales down to a hexa-core design for its new P-series processors.

At present, the most powerful chipset in the P-series family is the MediaTek Helio P30. The chip features eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.3GHz with Mali-G71 MP2 GPU, 4G LTE WorldMode modem, VPU (Vision Processing Unit), and the company’s CorePilot 4.0 technology. However, we haven’t seen many P30 phones in the market, apart from the Gionee M7 which was announced back in September. Its slightly lower-end brother, the MediaTek Helio P23 is currently found on multiple OPPO smartphones, including the recently launched OPPO A79 and OPPO A75/75S.

New report from Taiwan says the Helio P40 will be the semiconductor manufacturer’s savior chip come next year. This is because of its pricing which is between $11 – $12. It will take on Qualcomm’s own equivalent chip currently called the Snapdragon 660 Lite which will cost about $15.

Due to the lesser price of the Helio P40, MediaTek will be able to grab a higher market share and increase its shipment from 15% this year to 25% next year. MediaTek says OPPO, Meizu, and Xiaomi have signed up for the Helio P40

The source also mentioned a new upper mid-range chip from Qualcomm called the Snapdragon 670. The 10nm chipset will be the choice of several Chinese manufacturers for their mid-range flagships.

Yesterday, we reported that Taiwanese semiconductor company MediaTek, has a new SoC in the works. The new processor called the Helio P40 is said to feature a hexacore design and will be built on TSMC’s new 12nm process.

Mediatek is said to be wooing smartphone manufacturers to sign up for the new chip. According to Weibo user (@冷希), samples have been sent to customers to test and they’ve found their first customer in Meizu. First set of devices are expected to arrive in Q1 2018. It should come as no surprise seeing as both manufacturers seem to be best of friends.

Meizu’s flagship, the Pro7 Plus is the first device to be powered by the Helio X30, which is MediaTek’s most powerful SoC. Even though Meizu’s latest smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm processor, its VP, Li Nan has said the Blue Charm company will continue to use processors from the three manufacturers (Mediatek, Qualcomm, and Samsung).

However, that is not the only info the post disclosed. He also mentioned that the chip will have eight cores and not six cores as previously reported. This info is still unconfirmed.

The Helio P40 will also be a rival to the upcoming Snapdragon 670 which is expected to start appearing in devices in Q1 2018.

Just a week after MediaTek announced the Helio P23 and Helio P30 processors, news of the Helio P40 have started to surface.

Insider report from Taiwan’s industrial chain says MediaTek will be changing its strategy with respect to the Helio P40. Instead of its usual strategy of loading its processors with more cores, it will be cutting back on them.

The source says the Helio P40 will feature a hexa-core design instead of octa-core like its predecessors. Two of those cores will be high-performance Cortex-A73 cores and the remaining four will be Cortex-A53 cores. The chip itself will be built using the 12nm design process.

Unfortunately, no information was provided about its GPU. We hope the news about the GPU, when it surfaces, is equally exciting.

The Helio P40 is expected to take on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 mobile platform, which is the uncrowned king of the mid-range category. MediaTek is said to be in talks with OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, Gionee and the rest of the big players to sign up for the processor.

The Helio P23 and Helio P30 are expected to start showing up in devices starting next quarter. Taking that into consideration may translate into a Q4 20117 announcement for the Helio P40 and a Q1 2018 for arrival in the market.
