The Honda MS01 electric moped has been announced. It is the electric version of the popular Cub model and will sell in China. About 5,000 units of the model will be available for local deliveries, although it may expand to other markets.

The Honda Cub has a rich history. It is one of the iconic models of the Honda brand. It has sold more than 100 million units across the world since it was first sold over six decades ago. The motorcycle was simply revolutionary in its time and had a strong marketing campaign. The Cub is a small-capacity bike but struck a chord among urban dwellers globally. It was the perfect vehicle for navigating through the chaos and buzz of crowded cities.

The mass-produced motorcycle was accessible to millions due to its simple design, low power, and affordability. The MS01 is a culmination of the development of the EV Cub concept which was introduced in 2009. Honda may have stalled over the years, but it is revving up its focus on EV two-wheelers. This is more poignant as more manufacturers are in a race to transit substantially to EV production. Europe’s target for exiting internal combustion engine sales in the region is 2035. Honda has partnered with Japanese tech giant Sony to create EVs with a mix of both companies’ expertise.

The Honda MS01 is priced at around $742 in China. It is an affordable and sustainable option for short urban trips. It has a range of 65km on a single charge and is expected to be the forerunner of a more powerful Honda model. Honda and Muji collaborated on the model and we expect more partnerships going forward.
