Honor held an online launch event where the Honor Play 4T series was unveiled. The event was anchored by Honor’s product manager Wei Xialong, who is making his debut on the launch stage. The Honor exec disclosed that the Play 4T series launch was the first time the “T” suffix appearing on the Honor product line.

Wei Xiaolong explained that his view is that “T” stands for Terminator because the Honor Play 4T is a mission with super players and a natural dare to create. He also added that the Play 4T may be the last 4G mobile phone from Honor. In other words, starting with the Honor 30 series launching on April 15, the Honor phone is expected to fully enter the 5G era. Now, let get something clear here. The Honor exec didn’t definitively state that the 4T would be the last but his statement could be seen as a teaser.

Honor 4T and 4T Pro featured a Kirin 710 and Kirin 810chipset respectively. Basically, they are mid-range models and Huawei has already launched the mid-range Kirin 820 5G chipset which may power successive models. The Kirin 710 and 810 SoC were utilised by a number of Honor models including the 2018 Honor 8x, Honor 9X, Honor 10 Lite, Honor 9X Pro and several others. Thus, we expect Honor to use the Kirin 820 for a while and on several upcoming mid-range models. Honor has not been known for entry-level phones so we may see this development happening going forward. We believe this is a developing story. We’ll update you when further information arrives.

Honor doesn’t have a 5G smartphone in China yet, but that’s going to change very soon. Honor President Zhao Ming recently confirmed that the Honor V30 was going to be the first 5G smartphone from the brand. What’s more, it is also confirmed that the Honor V30 launch is scheduled for November 2019.

Honor didn’t give out an official launch date for the V30, but since it’s coming in November, expect an official announcement soon. Zhao also confirmed in a recent interview with Chinese media that the new model would support both Non-Stand Alone (NSA) and Stand Alone (SA) modes, essentially future-proofing the device.
The Honor V30 is reportedly coming in two variants, the Honor V30 and the V30 Pro. Both the models will likely feature punch-hole cameras, with the Pro model reportedly getting dual front-facing shooters.
The cameras on both devices will be quite powerful. The V30 should come with a 60MP primary sensor with 16MP super wide-angle shooter, a 2MP macro lens, and a ToF camera completing the quad-camera setup. The Pro version retains the 60MP primary shooter, but adds an 8MP telephoto camera instead of a macro lens, and upgrades the wide-angle shooter to 20MP. It will also have a ToF camera.

The brand aimed to lure young customers will be a little late to join the 5G revolution.

George Zhao was seen confident as he talked about the “rich technology reserves” that the company hold in different fields such as 5G, photography, AI and other aspects. The company is “confident” to use these technologies to make a perfect 5G device by the end of this year. The new development approves the recent claim made by George Zhao in another interview about launching the 5G smartphone in the second half of 2019.

He even talked about the company’s plan to improve the overseas earnings by over 50 percent of the total revenue. Huawei and Honor already grew by 47.3 percent in the time when the smartphone market is on a decline. Honor is marching ahead of other brands with the help of recent innovations such as Ark Compiler to improve Android efficiency, Quad camera setup for better photography and enhanced Bluetooth operation with better range and efficiency.

Huawei and Honor both are working to flourish the market by offering a vast variety of products. Huawei is developing a whole new ecosystem with products like smart speakers, wearables, IoT, smartphones, etc.

Various smartphone manufacturers are getting ready to launch their first 5G phones this year. While the parent company Huawei is gunning to debut its 5G phone in the first half of 2019, sub-brand Honor is looking forward to releasing its first 5G phone by the second half of this year.

During a group interview with Android Authority in Paris, Honor President George Zhao confirmed that its company would be launching the first 5G phone in the “second half of the year.” However, the name of the device was not disclosed as Zhao claimed that the model would depend on the infrastructure and progress of the operators supporting the 5G networks.

The publication claims that it was in September last year that Zhao had said that the first 5G honor phone would be launching at sometime in 2019. In the recent past, various smartphone manufacturers have announced their 5G plans. Some of them are even aiming to debut their 5G smartphones at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event that will be held between Feb. 25 and Feb. 28 in Barcelona, Spain.

It remains to be seen where Huawei and Honor will be releasing their first 5G phones. It seems like the U.S. and Canada may not receive 5G phones from Huawei and Honor soon. For security concerns, the U.S. government is reportedly planning to ban Huawei branded telecommunications equipment. In December, Huawei’s CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada for allegedly defrauding multiple financial institutions. Huawei telecommunication devices are already banned in Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

What’s working in the favor of Huawei is that their business is unaffected in major markets like China, India and Europe. Following Huawei, its sub-brand Honor may face no problems in launching its 5G phones in these markets.

At the February’s MWC 2019 tech expo, companies like LG, OPPO, Samsung and Xiaomi are expected to announce their first 5G smartphones.
