The Honor 6X was first unveiled in China late last year and then Huawei launched the mid-range smartphone on the international scene at CES 2017. Among other features, the Honor 6X launched at both times running Android Marshmallow-based EMUI 4 with. It was particularly thought that the version unveiled at CES 2017 would come sporting Huawei’s latest EMUI 5 based on Android Nougat.

Huawei had disclosed during CES 2017 that the Honor 6X would get an upgrade to Android 7 Nougat and EMUI 5 later in Q2 of this year without fixing a definitive time frame. However, a recent mail sent out by Huawei has revealed that the Honor 6X would soon get the Nougat treatment, specifically in March. If this happens, it would be a lot ahead of the scheduled time frame for the upgrade.

Despite getting the upgrade over a year after Google unveiled its latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS, the Honor 6X would still make it as one of the early birds to get the operating system infused into it. According to Google, as of January 9th, only 0.7% of Android devices were running Nougat. The latest OS onboard the 6X would increase the standing of the mid-ranger which also comes with a dual-lens camera at the rear. The device is presently available for $249 in the US, while it launched with a $149 price tag in China.

Huawei, over the weekend, teased what is billed to be the launch of a new interesting Honor phone that would drop on January 3 in the US ahead of CES 2017. Turns out the expected smartphone is the dual camera-packing, budget Huawei Honor 6X that was launched in China a few months back.

The Honor 6X is an upgraded version of the equally spectacular Honor 5X which was launched in 2015 with all-metal body, well studded specs lineup and yet a cheap $157 price tag. But then Huawei launched the Honor 6X with an upgraded specs tablet and the mid-ranger even packs a stunning dual-lens camera at the rear, yet was placed in the budget price category.

Design & Hardwares – Honor 6X

Talking about the design, the Huawei Honor 6X features an all metallic built, with 2.5D glass on the front. The phone has smooth and well chamfered edges with less design bezels at the sides, giving it a premium flagship look. It also has a compact body with a dimension of 150.9 x 72.6 x 8.2mm and weighing in  at 162 grams.

As for the specs, the Honor 6X is powered by the Kirin 655 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.1GHz with Mali-T830 MP2 GPU which is a decent offering for a budget smartphone. The device sports a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution.  Only the 3GB + 32GB storage version is available for both markets right now, but Huawei has said the 4GB RAM version will hit select markets in due course.

Going further, the phone features a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of one 12MP primary sensor and another 2MP secondary sensor. Huawei teased a photo captured by the Honor 6X’s rear cameras at dusk and the image was crisp clear, meaning it packs a powerful sensor onboard. Up front, there is an 8MP camera. Inside, the phone features a decent 3340mAh battery. As for the software, the device runs on Android 6 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 on top. Other features include fingerprint sensor at the back, dual SIM dual standby, 4G LTE, WI-Fi n and GPS.

Pricing

The Honor 6X comes in five different colors namely gold, rose gold, silver, gray, and navy. As for the price in the EU and US, the Honor 6X starts at $249 in the US for the 3GB RAM version. This is slightly higher than the $149 price tag it clutched on launch day in China a few months back. Pre-orders will open at Honor’s web portal on January 4, while the official sales would kick off on January 15. When the 4GB version enters the market, it will be priced at $300. Meanwhile customers in the U.S. can get the Honor 6X 3GB for a reduced price of $200 during flash sales at 10 a.m. (PT )on January 10, 17, 24, and 31.

For Europe, the Honor 6X will be available in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Russia and others with sales starting January 4th for €249.

Huawei Honor 6X has again appeared on TENAA’s website this time with model number BLN-TL10. Recall that the Honor 6X was spotted on TENAA a few weeks back having the model number BLN-AL10. The thing is, during the first appearance, all we got were images of the device only without the specs listing attached. This time around, the images were revealed along with the key specifications the smartphone would pack.

From the images, we could tell both devices are the same save for different model numbers that they were listed. The dual cameras at the back are very much visible as well as the fingerprint scanner under the camera. The rear case is not an all-metal design as the upper and lower end is made of plastic materials.

Talking about the specs, the Honor 6X  sports a 5.5-inch display and is powered by a Kirin 650 chipset along with 3GB of RAM. The device also features 32GB of internal storage and crams a 3340mAh battery under its hood. On the camera end, the Huawei Honor 6X packs an 8MP front-facing camera and at the rear, the dual cameras are said to have a 12MP sensor for the primary shooter and 2MP for the secondary camera which would likely provide depth of field.

Rumors have it that the device would likely be released around mid-October and would come with support  for all networks in China. The Honor 6X is said to be in production already in four of Huawei’s factories in China and would likely not come in as an expensive one.
