We are referring to Huawei P9, P9 Plus, Mate 8, Honor 8 and Honor 6X. Yes, even the old Mate 8 and the Honor 8 which was confirmed to stay with Nougat forever due to hardware limitations, will receive the update to Android Oreo. Unfortunately, for now, the beta firmware of Android Oreo has only been launched in the Chinese version.

We do not know when the beta Android Oreo firmware for Huawei P9 and the other handsets will be available outside of China, or when the stable version of the update will be released. According to reports, we will see the final update to Android Oreo on these handsets within H1 2018, so within the end of June. Even the Asian-exclusive Honor Note 8 has been included in the beta testing phase. Note that on all of these handsets, Android Oreo may be the latest major Android update that will be rolled out; it is unlikely that they will be updated to Android P which should instead arrive on more recent and powerful handsets like Huawei P10 and the following ones.

The variants of Huawei P9 and P9 Plus eligible for the beta testing phase of Android Oreo are EVA-AL00, EVA-AL10, EVA-CL00, EVA-TL00, EVA-DL00 and VIE-AL10. Huawei Mate 8 variants included in the beta testings phase are NXT-AL10, NXT-CL00, NXT-TL00. Honor 8 eligible variants are FRD-AL10, FRD-AL00 and FRD-DL00. At last, you can adhere to Android Oreo beta testing in China if you own one of these variants: BLN-AL10, BLN-AL20, BLN-AL30, BLN-AL40, BLN-TL10 or BLN-TL00. The Android Oreo update is obviously customized by EMUI 8.0 and it contains several new features such as Oreo’s picture-in-picture mode, autofill APIs, notification channels and much more.

When do you think these handsets will receive the final update?

In China, the 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants of the smartphone are respectively priced at 1,299 Yuan (~$195), 1,699 Yuan (~$256) and 1,999 Yuan (~$301).

The Honor 7X brings a bunch of upgrades and an entirely new design but makes sure to keep the dual cameras of its predecessor.

Honor 7X Design

The Honor 7X has a metal unibody similar to that of the Honor 8 Pro but with a few changes. The dual camera has moved from the vertical setup of the Honor 6X to a horizontal one. The sensors sit along the antenna line along with the LED flash in an attractive fashion.

The fingerprint scanner is rear-mounted and that’s not because Honor is trying to keep it in the same spot as that of the 6X but because there is no space in front for it thanks to the 5.93-inch 18:9 display. The bezels are not super thin but are significantly reduced. Overall, this is a huge improvement over the 6X.

Honor 7X Specs

The 5.933” screen has a 2160 x 1080 resolution. Like the Maimang 6, Huawei’s other 18:9 smartphone, the Honor 7X is powered by the Kirin 659. There is 4GB of RAM and buyers will be able to choose from 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of storage.

The processor is not the only feature the Honor 7X shares with the Maimang 6, its dual rear cameras are also the same 16MP + 2MP configuration. However, it doesn’t get dual front cameras but a single 8MP sensor instead along with a LED flash.

There is dual SIM support (hybrid, nano only & 256GB max. card), Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi. The battery capacity is still 3340mAh and can be recharged via the micro USB port at the bottom. Sitting on the left of the port is a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Honor 7X runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with EMUI 5.1 on top. It is 7.6mm thick and weighs 165g.

Honor 7X Price

The Honor 7X is available in Gold, Blue, and Black. The 32GB variant will sell for ¥1299 (~$200), the 64GB version will cost ¥1699 (~$260) and the 128GB model will have a ¥1999 (~$304) price tag. It will be available on Vmall, JD.com, Suning, and Tmall as from 17th of October. A free TPU case will come with the phone.

Since then, couple of smartphone manufacturers such as BlackBerry, HTC and Sony have confirmed on the devices that will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. As far as Honor phones are concerned, the Chinese firm had kept a press conference recently in New Delhi, India. During the press meet, the company allowed its officials to answer queries on its old and new devices.

When Honor was asked about the arrival about the release of Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Honor 8 Pro and Honor 6X, the company claimed that the firmware upgrade would be released within few months. The company confirmed that these smartphones would be getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of this year. However, there is a possibility that the rollout of Oreo update for Honor 6X may happen in early 2018. Currently, the Honor 8 Pro is running on Android Nougat. The Honor 6X is also running on Nougat, but it was launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

Apart from the Nokia 3310 (2017) feature phone, HMD Global has increased couple of Nokia phones running on Android OS this year. The Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 are all currently running on Android Nougat OS. A tweet released by Juho Sarvikas who is Chief Product Officer with HMD Global has confirmed that the all the Nokia Android phones including the Nokia 3 would be upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. However, Sarvikas refrained from revealing the exact timeframe of the release.

The Nokia 3 is running on MediaTek MT6737 chipset whereas the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 are powered by Snapdragon 430. Hence, some were speculating that the MediaTek chip powered Nokia 3 may not get the latest Android version. However, the Finnish firm has confirmed that the low-end Nokia 3 will be upgraded to Android Oreo.

The phone was unveiled at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in January. At the launch event of Honor 6X, Huawei had confirmed that the phone would be getting Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5 by the second quarter of the year. The company has now successfully fulfilled its promise by beginning the rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat update with EMUI 5.0 starting from May 2.

Since the update rollout has started, it would be gradually coming to all the global users of Honor 6X by the end of this month. The EMUI 5.0 update is a major update over EMUI 4.1 as it carries design changes and new features. Its interface is mostly white and has lots of black and blue colors as well instead of the teal colors available in the previous version.

The EMUI 5.0 also brings along an improved interface for Camera app, a new app drawer, revamped notification bar and a new mode called “Eye comfort” that comforts the eyes by filtering the blue light emitted from the screen. App Twin is a new app on EMUI 5.0 that allows users to add launch two versions of the same app for accessing different accounts simultaneously.

The arrival of the update will show up as automatic notification on Honor 6X handsets. If the update does not appear automatically, users can navigate manually to Settings > About Phone > Check for Updates. Since the update can consume a lot of data, it is advisable to install the update using a stable Wi-Fi connection.

The unlocked Honor 6X is currently selling with a pricing of $249 in the U.S. which can be used only on GSM networks such as AT&T and T-Mobile. The phone was launched in China in October 2016. Huawei has introduced the Honor 6X in new color options like Blue and Pink (looks like Rose Gold) in China.

Currently, the new color variants for Huawei Honor 6X are only available in the home country. However, the Chinese firm is expected to make them available in other markets soon like India where there is fierce competition between mid-range smartphones.

Honor 6X is a budget smartphone with a USP of dual rear cameras of 12-megapixel and 2-megapixel. It is coupled with features such as LED flash and Phase Detection Autofocus The twin cameras are capable of shooting photos with bokeh effect. Instead, Huawei began the Android Nougat beta update program for Honor 6X users in the U.S. at the start of this month. The update weighs 2.3 GB and it tags along EMUI 5.0.

By enrolling for the beta build, users can test the beta edition of Nougat 7.0 packed with EMIU 5.0 before its final version is released. To enroll, users need to send their IMEI number to huaweifut@huawei.com. Owners of dual-SIM Honor 6X are required to send two IMEI numbers. The U.S. users of Honor 6X are poised to get the final build soon, but there is no confirmation whether the new Blue and Pink variants would be also made available there.

The company is selling 32 GB variant with 3 GB RAM and its 64 GB model with 4 GB of RAM is expected to be available soon in the U.S. Its front-facing camera is of 8-megapixel and is graced with a battery of 3,340 mAh capacity.

Among other features, the Honor 6X launched at both times running Android Marshmallow-based EMUI 4 with. It was particularly thought that the version unveiled at CES 2017 would come sporting Huawei’s latest EMUI 5 based on Android Nougat.

Huawei had disclosed during CES 2017 that the Honor 6X would get an upgrade to Android 7 Nougat and EMUI 5 later in Q2 of this year without fixing a definitive time frame. However, a recent mail sent out by Huawei has revealed that the Honor 6X would soon get the Nougat treatment, specifically in March. If this happens, it would be a lot ahead of the scheduled time frame for the upgrade.

Despite getting the upgrade over a year after Google unveiled its latest Android 7.0 Nougat OS, the Honor 6X would still make it as one of the early birds to get the operating system infused into it. According to Google, as of January 9th, only 0.7% of Android devices were running Nougat. The latest OS onboard the 6X would increase the standing of the mid-ranger which also comes with a dual-lens camera at the rear. The device is presently available for $249 in the US, while it launched with a $149 price tag in China.

But how do you know a phone is durable? You can’t go buying a phone just for the sake of knowing how durable it is unless you are JerryRigEverything.

Popular Youtuber, JerryRigEverything whose real name is Zack puts the Honor 6X through a durability test. The results are astonishing.

First let’s run through the specs of the device. The Honor 6X is a mid-range dual camera phone with a 5.5-inch 1080p display. It has 4GB/3GB of RAM and 64GB/32GB of built-in storage. There is a 12MP and 2MP camera combo on the rear for depth of field images and an 8MP shooter in front. Huawei has equipped it with a fingerprint scanner on the rear and a 3340mAh battery. The Honor 6X comes with Android 6.0 out of the box but will be upgraded to Android Nougat.

Back to the test. First on the list is the scratch test. If you noticed, I didn’t mention any form of protection for the display above. No Gorilla Glass nor Dragontrail Glass. The result shows that you will be wise to invest in a tempered glass as the display starts scratching from level 4. Do make sure that the screen protector covers the front camera too.

The scratch test also includes the glass covering the rear cameras which fares well, and the fingerprint scanner which fails to work anymore.

READ MORE: Huawei Honor 8 Lite Leaked, Rumored for March Release

Next is the bend test. The Honor 6X uses a combination of metal and plastic for the rear. The plastic is to allow for network signals and absorb shocks and the metal to……in this case serve as decoration. Apart from the metal scratching easily, it also does nothing to protect the phone during the bend test. The reason according to JerryRigEverything is because the metal plate is not screwed to the phone at all. During the bend test, the LCD actually shattered way before the front glass did. So if you accidentally sit on the Honor 6X, it is very possible to have a damaged LCD and a perfectly alright front glass.

Jerry’s advice after the test is to invest in a screen protector and a case to protect your device or purchase the Honor 8. You can watch the full video below but expect to cringe during some scenes.

Their Honor 6x is one of the newest models and it has received a lot of media coverage lately. You can now get it from lightinthebox.com for $205.99, which sounds like a pretty good deal considering the overall package you get with this device.

The phone sports an all-metal design like most of the phones these days. One of the key selling points is the dual-camera setup that sports a one 12MP sensor and one 2MP shooter that captures depth information for those DSLR-like bokeh shots.

When it comes to the specs, the Honor 6x is a pretty powerful phone. It sports an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 655 chip (4×2.1 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.7 GHz Cortex-A53), Mali-T830MP2 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Also, there is 32GB of internal storage that can be further expanded via the microSD card slot (up to 256 GB (uses SIM 2 slot)). The 5.5″ 1080p display makes it a standard-sized smartphone.

In addition, the Huawei Honor 6x runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and it is planned to be upgraded to Android 7.0 (Nougat). Finally, the non-removable 3340 mAh battery will keep the lights on for a long time.

You can now get it from lightinthebox.com for $205.99, which sounds like a pretty good deal considering the overall package you get with this device.

Turns out the expected smartphone is the dual camera-packing, budget Huawei Honor 6X that was launched in China a few months back.

The Honor 6X is an upgraded version of the equally spectacular Honor 5X which was launched in 2015 with all-metal body, well studded specs lineup and yet a cheap $157 price tag. But then Huawei launched the Honor 6X with an upgraded specs tablet and the mid-ranger even packs a stunning dual-lens camera at the rear, yet was placed in the budget price category.

Design & Hardwares – Honor 6X

Talking about the design, the Huawei Honor 6X features an all metallic built, with 2.5D glass on the front. The phone has smooth and well chamfered edges with less design bezels at the sides, giving it a premium flagship look. It also has a compact body with a dimension of 150.9 x 72.6 x 8.2mm and weighing in at 162 grams.

As for the specs, the Honor 6X is powered by the Kirin 655 octa-core chipset clocked at 2.1GHz with Mali-T830 MP2 GPU which is a decent offering for a budget smartphone. The device sports a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution. Only the 3GB + 32GB storage version is available for both markets right now, but Huawei has said the 4GB RAM version will hit select markets in due course.

Going further, the phone features a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of one 12MP primary sensor and another 2MP secondary sensor. Huawei teased a photo captured by the Honor 6X’s rear cameras at dusk and the image was crisp clear, meaning it packs a powerful sensor onboard. Up front, there is an 8MP camera. Inside, the phone features a decent 3340mAh battery. As for the software, the device runs on Android 6 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 on top. Other features include fingerprint sensor at the back, dual SIM dual standby, 4G LTE, WI-Fi n and GPS.

Pricing

The Honor 6X comes in five different colors namely gold, rose gold, silver, gray, and navy. As for the price in the EU and US, the Honor 6X starts at $249 in the US for the 3GB RAM version. This is slightly higher than the $149 price tag it clutched on launch day in China a few months back. Recall that the Honor 6X was spotted on TENAA a few weeks back having the model number BLN-AL10. The thing is, during the first appearance, all we got were images of the device only without the specs listing attached. This time around, the images were revealed along with the key specifications the smartphone would pack.

From the images, we could tell both devices are the same save for different model numbers that they were listed. The dual cameras at the back are very much visible as well as the fingerprint scanner under the camera. The rear case is not an all-metal design as the upper and lower end is made of plastic materials.

Talking about the specs, the Honor 6X sports a 5.5-inch display and is powered by a Kirin 650 chipset along with 3GB of RAM. The device also features 32GB of internal storage and crams a 3340mAh battery under its hood. On the camera end, the Huawei Honor 6X packs an 8MP front-facing camera and at the rear, the dual cameras are said to have a 12MP sensor for the primary shooter and 2MP for the secondary camera which would likely provide depth of field.

Rumors have it that the device would likely be released around mid-October and would come with support for all networks in China. The Honor 6X is said to be in production already in four of Huawei’s factories in China and would likely not come in as an expensive one.
