Design

Vivo Z1 Lite beats almost the whole concurrency with its wonderful design. It has a display with very narrow bezels and a minimal notch, as well as a reflective glass back which is also available in a very elegant gradient hue (Aurora Blue). The second place goes to Honor 8C, while Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is definitely less beautiful with its full metal unibody design.

Display

Honor 8C loses the display comparison as its resolution is only HD, while Vivo Z1 Lite wins again for having a Full HD+ resolution, a larger diagonal and narrower bezels. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has a smaller panel which is more suitable for one-handed use. And it features a Full HD+ resolution as well.

Specs & Software

Huawei Honor 8C has the most powerful and recent SoC, so it should be the best one in terms of performance and efficiency, especially if we consider that it has to manage a display with a lower resolution. We are talking about the new Snapdragon 632 chipset which is a toned down version of the Snapdragon 636 found on devices like Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. However, note that Vivo Z1 Lite comes with max 32 GB of internal storage, while Huawei Honor 8C and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro have 64 GB variants. All of these devices have a customized Android version: Funtouch OS for the Z1, EMUI for Honor 8C and MIUI for Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro. But the latter has an international version called Mi A2 Lite with Android One.

Camera

The most convincing rear camera is the dual setup of the Honor 8C thanks to a brighter aperture which should allow capturing more light. On the other hand, Vivo Z1 Lite is a more interesting smartphone for selfies thanks to its 16 MP front camera which also supports important AI-based features. Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has a below-average dual camera which is just sufficient for the price range, and its front camera did not convince us as well.

Battery

The battery is the strongest point of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro. It features a huge 4000 mAh unit paired with one of the most efficient chipsets in the market: the Snapdragon 625. This battery allows achieving a very long battery life: it can last up to two days on a single charge even with a stressed use. But Huawei Honor 8C has a 4000 mAh as well, and it also features a display with a low resolution besides a very efficient SoC. So it can last a bit more in most of the scenarios. Vivo Z1 Lite has a way smaller battery which does not allow it to take part in this fight.

Price

Vivo Z1 Lite just debuted in China with a price tag of €140/$160, Huawei Honor 8C is sold at about €170/$191 and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro ranges from €160/$180 to €200/$225 depending on the channel. Even though it has a worse display, I think Honor 8C is currently the phone with the best value for money due to its good camera department, balanced specs, and very long battery life. But there are very marginal differences between these devices, so, whichever you choose, you will make a good choice.

Design

The design is the weakest point of these handsets, just like most of the devices sold for less than €200. But they are not ugly. They come with a full metal unibody design and similar looks. So, what you should choose depends on your tastes; we suggest to pay more attention to other specs instead of aesthetics.

Display

There is a very important difference between each of these displays. Meizu Note 8 is the only notchless device in this trio, while Honor 8C is the only to sport a lower resolution, so we do not recommend it if you want to see detailed images on your screen. Lenovo S5 Pro and Meizu Note 8 are more or less at the same level and they sport average Full HD+ IPS panels.

Specs & Software

When it comes to hardware specifications, Lenovo S5 Pro is the winner because of its more powerful SoC and the available memory configurations which do not offer less than 6 GB of RAM. Further, it has better connectivity thanks to a better Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth 5.0.

Camera

The cameras you can find on the Lenovo S5 Pro are the ones which convinced us the most. It has a great dual camera setup on the rear side with a bright f/1.8 aperture and the support to 2x optical zoom which allows zooming without losing detail. And it has a dual camera even on the front side, which supports the HDR technology.

Battery

With its efficient Snapdragon 632 chipset, its HD display, and its 4000 mAh battery, Huawei Honor 8C is the device providing the longest battery life. It is almost impossible to totally discharge it in just one day, even if you use it continuously. But note that it does not have a fast charging technology, so it takes some more time to fully charge it.

Price

Lenovo S5 Pro is definitely the most balanced and powerful handset, and it wins this comparison. You can get it and Meizu Note 8 for about €200/$227 in China, while Huawei Honor 8C was launched with a price tag around €170/$193. The second place goes to Huawei Honor 8C due to its longer battery life and a higher value for money in my opinion, even though Meizu Note 8 has a better display.

Design

The handset I personally like more than the others is Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro for two reasons. First, it has a more attractive design thanks to its bezel-less display and the elegant metal back. Second, it is more compact, so easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket. Huawei Honor 8C comes right after, while Nokia 3.1 Plus has a more classic design which brings nothing really innovative.

Display

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro has the most exciting display as it is the only one to feature a Full HD+ resolution which provides a lot of detail more. On the other hand, it has the smallest display and you might not like it if you are an advanced user or a gamer. Nokia 3.1 Plus and Huawei Honor 8C have bigger displays, but their resolution is only 720p. So Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro wins.

Specs & Software

If performance is your main concern, then you should definitely go for the Huawei Honor 8C. It is the first smartphone to sport the new Snapdragon 632 chipset by Qualcomm which, according to the San Diego-based giant, will provide up to 40 percent better performance compared to Snapdragon 625 (present on the Redmi 6 Pro) and 626. Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro takes the second place, while Nokia 3.1 Plus is less powerful and it does not have a 4 GB of RAM version, unlike the others. While Honor 8C and Redmi 6 Pro come with customized user interfaces (EMUI and MIUI, Nokia 3.1 Plus has the stock Android One.

Camera

My favorite camera is the one on board of the Honor 8C due to its brighter aperture which allows achieving better results even when light conditions are not the best. And it is the same with the front camera which carries a resolution of 8 MP and can record videos with resolutions up to 1080p.

Battery

Despite Nokia 3.1 Plus is a bigger device, Huawei Honor 8C and Xiaomi Mi Redmi 6 Pro have the biggest batteries and they should last more. Given that Honor 8C was officially announced a few days ago, we had no chance to test its battery and we can not tell you which will last more between it and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.

Price

Nokia 3.1 Plus will soon hit the shelves with a price tag of $154/€133 in India, Honor 8C will sell for €136/$158 in China and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is currently available for about $150/€130 in the global market. In my opinion, Honor 8C is the most interesting device in this comparison, but there are very marginal differences between these devices, so there is not a real winner.

Despite the decent pricing, the Honor 8C comes with a capable Snapdragon 632 chipset which makes it the first device to utilise the new chipset from Qualcomm.

The Honor 3C design is very similar to the Honor 8X except that it is cheaper. To slice off the price, Honor utilised a plastic back panel for the design. There is also a lower SDM632 than the Kirin 710, Huawei’s latest mid-performer SoC used on the 8X. The device packs a lesser 6.26-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 1520x720p. The model uses a 19:9 aspect ratio meaning it actually has a body like a 5.5-inch device. It equally comes with only a small notch and a small chin on the front with a display Honor says has an 86.6% screen ratio.

The Honor 8C is available in 4GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variants. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2 but we expect Android Pie update to hit the device soon. The camera design is also similar to the Honor 8X in design as it is aligned vertically with the LED flash underneath. There is also a badge under indicating the camera is an AI shooter. You also get a 4000mAh battery onboard the phone but there is no fast charging technology. Check out some pictures of the Honor 8C from below.

The device yet another notch-packing smartphone but has all the makings of a decent budget model. The device is one of the few of Huawei’s smartphones that are not powered by a Kirin chipset. The Honor brand has a longstanding reputation of an elitist design but of late, while the design style still maintains their high standards, the pricing has become affordable.

The Honor 8C is one of such affordable models and to keep the price low, Honor opted for a metal fuselage but the back panel is made from plastic. The Honor 8C is one giant phablet as it packs a 6.26-inch TFT LCD (IPS) display with an HD+ resolution of 1520×720 pixels and screen pixel density of 269 PPI. The display has a tiny notch at the top which houses the selfie camera and earpiece. The display comes with an impressive 86.6% screen-to-body ratio. The device comes with a dimension of 158.72X75.94X7.98mm meaning it is just 7.98mm thick. It also weighs just 167.2g.

Specs wise, the Honor 8C is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset which makes the model the first commercial phone to pack Qualcomm’s new chipset. The chipset builds on the successes of the SD 625 and SD626 SoC. It boasts of up to 40% improvements over its predecessors. The graphic is powered by an Adreno 506 GPU. The device comes only in 4GB RAM variant while there are 32GB and 64GB storage options available. We could see Honor introduce a 6GB RAM variant later on. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card up to 256GB. The phone actually comes with dual SIM cards and a separate microSD slot so you won’t have to sacrifice the second SIM card for SD card. The phone runs Huawei’s custom EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The Honor 8C packs a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 13MP main sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and a 2MP depth of field sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The design of the vertically aligned rear shooters is quite spectacular with both sensors standing in isolation just like the Honor 8X design. The rear camera supports autofocus, continuous capture and AI beauty feature. The front camera is an 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and soft light flash. The 8C also packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. There is a 4000mAh battery under its hood which supports 5V/2A charger but there’s no fast charging technology.

The device is available in four different colours namely; Magic Night Black, Platinum Gold, Aurora Blue, and Nebula Purple. The Honor 8C comes with a 1099 Yuan ($158) price tag for the 4GB+32GB variant and 1,399 Yuan ($201) for the 4GB+64GB variant. Today, the company has released an official teaser to confirm that it will be launching a new tablet tomorrow.

The Weibo post that confirms the arrival of the new Honor MediaPad T5 reveals that it will be equipped with dual speakers tuned by Harman Kardon along with Histen 5.0 3D audio technology by Huawei. This suggests that the MediaPad T5 will be a good device for enjoying videos and music. The presence of GPU Turbo technology on the MediaPad T5 indicates that it will also offer good gaming experience.

The official Honor store on Jingdong Mall has two Honor tablets namely, the Waterplay series and Play Pad 2 (launched as MediaPad T3 in India in 2017). The Honor Waterplay Tab is a waterproof tablet that is priced at 1,999 Yuan whereas the Play Pad 2 costs 999 Yuan. Probably, the MediaPad T5 tablet arriving could be priced between Waterplay and Play Pad 2 tablets.

There is no information on the accurate specs of the Honor MediaPad T5. However, it is expected to come equipped with a 10.1-inch screen that may support 2K resolution. The device could be either powered by the Kirin 710 or Kirin 970 chipset.

More network variants of the device are now listed on the agency’s website and thankfully, one of them has included images.

The model number of this new listing is BKK-AL10. Other than the images included, this variant also mentions a new memory version of the phone which will have 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. This means we should get two variants alongside the previously known 4GB RAM + 64GB model.

[envira-gallery id=”213840″]

The Honor 8C has a metal and glass sandwich design. Unlike its predecessor, the Honor 7C which has its dual cameras arranged horizontally, its own cameras are arranged vertically. There is a LED flash right below the sensors and the words “Dual Lens hybrid zoom” under the flash. There is also a fingerprint scanner in the middle of the device.

Up in front, there is a sensor, earpiece, and camera positioned in the middle. We are sure that’s where the notch is. The phone’s volume rocker and power button are on the right and there is a 3.5mm audio jack at the top of the phone.

The images provided are of the black variant but TENAA says it will also be available in purple, gold, and blue.

When the Honor 8C launches on October 11, five months after its predecessor, it will come with a 6.26-inch 1520 x 720 screen and a 1.8GHz processor which is probably the Snapdragon 450. It will have 13MP + 2MP dual rear cameras and an 8MP selfie camera. It will also pack a 3900mAh battery and run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

A new poster has emerged pointing to the launch of the Honor 8C on October 11 this year. The Honor 8C will drop barely seven months after the Honor 7C was launched in March this year.

The poster adopts the theme “Charging Up” which could point to the fast charging technology onboard. This is going to be an interesting feature considering the Honor 7C is pretty cheap and the 8C will likely follow suit. The poster also contains the front render of the purported Honor 8C. From the render, it can be seen that the device will come with a notch display design. This will take off some more bezels from around the device when compared to the Honor 7C.

Recently, a new device was certified by TENAA with the model number BKK-TL00. The model is suspected to be the Honor 8C but the listing wasn’t accompanied by a picture, making it impossible to confirm that. The new Honor BKK-TL00 features a 6.26-inch display with an HD+ resolution of 1520×720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It has a dimension of 158.72 × 75.94 × 7.98mm and weighs 167.2g. The device is equipped with an Octa-core processor with its CPU clocked at 1.8GHz. The device comes with 4GB memory and 64GB storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD slot.
