Honor is rolling out a new system update for the Honor Magic 4 and Honor Magic 5 series of smartphones in China. The latest software update for the handsets brings along several quality-of-life features.

Additionally, the new firmware build bumps up the security patch level. Despite being almost similar, this update arrives with different build numbers for both lineups.

Honor Magic 5 Pro

According to ITHome, the new software update for Honor flagship smartphones comes with the following build numbers.

Honor Magic 4 Series – MagicOS 7.0.0.170
Honor Magic 5 Series – MagicOS 7.1.0.183

These firmware builds weigh 803MB and 579MB, respectively.

The official changelog mentions six important things included with this update. First and foremost, the update increases the security patch level to November 2023.

Further, the update introduces ‘Pure Status Bar’. This mode only shows time, WiFi, network, and battery level.

Then, the update adds YOYO suggestion switch and automatic brightness button in the Control Center. It also enables double-clicking the volume down button in the locked state to turn on/off the flashlight.

Floating window feature adds support for more applications. Finally, the Gallery app gets custom album cover and password lock functions for hidden albums.

Like any other OTA system update, this one too is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, some users may receive it earlier while others might have to wait.

We are not sure if and when these features will be available outside mainland China. They will likely reach in some capacity in the near future.

Honor has recently released an exciting MagicOS system update, version 7.1.0.162 (C00E128R6P5), for its popular Magic5 series phones. The update introduces some noteworthy features and optimizations that enhance the user experience.

One of the key additions is the Mini Window mode, which allows users to access certain apps in a compact floating window. At MWC 2023, Honor introduced its flagship Magic 5 series in the global market. The new lineup, which includes the Magic 5 Pro and Magic 5, comes with some promising features out of the box and carry an interesting yet familiar design. Today, Honor has introduced its latest premium series in its home country China. While the vanilla model features exactly the same specifications as its global counterpoint, the pro model comes with one notable change.

Honor Magic 5 Pro is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone and it packs interesting hardware. The Chinese version comes with essentially the same specifications as the one launched internationally. But as mentioned, there’s one important change— the battery. The handset arrives in China with a new Silicon-Carbon battery, which has a higher energy density than the usual Lithium-ion batteries (Via GSMArena).

During MWC 2023, Honor detailed that Silicon-carbon batteries have 12.8% higher energy density compared to traditional lithium batteries that use graphite on the anode. As a result, the Honor Magic 5 Pro in China has a larger battery capacity of 5,450mAh while the global units only have a 5100mAh battery. However, the new tech seems to be limited to the Pro and Ultimate models.

The pricing of the two phones in China is also quite different. The Honor Magic 5 Pro debuted internationally with a price tag of EUR 1,199 (roughly USD 1,267). However, in China, it is priced at 5,199 Yuan (around $750) for the base 8+256GB version. The 12+256GB and 16+512GB variants are priced at 5,699 Yuan ($822) and 6199 Yuan ($894), respectively.

On the other hand, Vanilla Magic 5 was priced at EUR 899 ($960) globally but in the Chinese market, it will retail at a starting price of 3999 Yuan ($577) for the base 8+256GB version. It will also be available in 12+256GB and 16+512GB versions, priced at 4499 Yuan ($649) and 4999 Yuan ($721).

Most smartphones and a majority of gadgets out there use either a lithium-polymer (Li-poly) or Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery as a power source. While both these technologies have been working just fine, they do have a few shortcomings. However, it seems Honor has come up with a better alternative. Today, at MWC 2023, the Chinese company briefly detailed its first silicon-carbon battery with a higher energy density.

While announcing the Magic 5 Pro smartphone, Honor’s CEO George Zhao talked about the first Silicon-carbon battery. It is claimed to offer 12.8% higher energy density compared to traditional lithium batteries that use graphite on the anode. A higher energy density would mean higher battery capacity.

Let’s put it in simpler terms. The newly launched Honor Magic 5 Pro currently has a battery with a capacity of 5,100mAh. However, if it had used a silicon-carbon battery, its capacity could have been increased to 5,450mAh. The charts shared by Honor during the presentation explain that Lithium batteries lose their charge quickly and become useless once their voltage drops to 3.5 volts. However, a silicon-carbon battery has 240% more capacity left at 3.5 volts.

GSMArena points out that the newly announced Honor Magic 5 Pro is listed in China with a 5,450mAh battery, which suggests it is using a silicon-carbon battery already. However, the international units feature just a standard 5,100mAh battery. We’ll have to wait for Honor to provide more details in this regard. The top position in camera ranking was previously secured by the Huawei Mate 50 Pro with a score of 147. The display on the Honor Magic 5 Pro is 6.81-inch and is curved on all four sides. It uses the LTPO technology and can refresh at up to 120Hz. Honor Magic 5 Pro Renders Reveal a Uni-body Design & 100X Zoom Capability

Honor will soon introduce the Honor Magic 5 series smartphones at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2023 event. The new flagship series from the brand will have three models – Honor Magic 5, Honor Magic 5 Pro, and Honor Magic Ultimate.

Earlier leaks have revealed the design of the vanilla Magic 5 model. Now, tipster Evan Blass has shared renders of the Honor Magic 5 Pro completely revealing its front and rear design.

Starting with the rear panel, the renders reveal that the Magic 5 Pro features a circular camera island with three camera lenses placed in a triangular setup. This camera array resembles the official teaser images published by the brand. Additionally, the camera module has 100X etched on it, which confirms its 100X zoom capability.

What’s interesting is that the camera island and the back panel appear to be constructed as a uni-body. This isn’t that uncommon since Oppo did something similar with the Find X5 Pro. The back also appears to be curved, however, it is unclear if the material used on it is glass or something else. Up-front, the device has a curved display with super thin top and bottom bezels. The pill-shaped cutout on the top left will hold a selfie camera and face recognition hardware. The renders reveal Green and Black color options, tho it is unclear if these will be the only color options the device will be launching with.

The upcoming Honor Magic 5 series will feature a 13-megapixel Sony IMX688 front-facing camera. The Pro model is also expected to arrive in the same variants priced at 5,999 Yuan (~$835), 6,399 Yuan (~$891), and 7,199 Yuan (~$1,000). The Honor Magic 5 Ultimate Edition will only come in a single 12 GB RAM + 512 GB storage configuration, priced at 7,999 Yuan (~$1,113). After a long while, we are going to have multiple smartphone launches, courtesy of Mobile World Congress 2023. At least four brands are expected to debut multiple new phones.

Unfortunately, most of these handsets are merely making their way to the global markets as they had already gone official in China. Either way, they are new products for most parts of the world.

The announcement of these phones will begin coming Sunday and will last until Wednesday. With that out of the way, let’s take a quick look at the devices that are scheduled to be unveiled in the next few days.

Upcoming Smartphones Next Week

Xiaomi 13 Series

Xiaomi has scheduled to launch the Xiaomi 13 series for global markets on February 26. The event will begin at 4 PM GMT+1. It will be live-streamed on YouTube.

The lineup is expected to include three models, namely Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Xiaomi 13 Lite. The former two are the same as the ones sold in China. Whereas, the lite variant is actually a rebranded Xiaomi Civi 2 from September.

The regular and pro phones will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, while the lite will house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC. The former two will even arrive with Leica-tuned cameras.

The Xiaomi 13, 13 Pro, and 13 Lite are tipped to cost around €999, €1,299, and €499, respectively.

Honor Magic 5 Series and Honor Magic Vs

Honor has planned its event for February 27 at 1:30 PM CET. The brand has confirmed to debut the Honor Magic 5 series and Honor Magic Vs at this conference.

Unlike most handsets, not much is known about the Magic 5 series. The lineup is said to include four devices, such as Honor Magic 5, Honor Magic 5 Pro, Honor Magic 5 Ultimate, and Honor Magic 5 Lite. The first three phones are expected to house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, while the last one is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 695 SoC.

On the other hand, the Honor Magic Vs foldable smartphone had already gone official in China in late November. Everything is known about this product.

Realme GT 3

The Relame GT 3 is set to launch in global markets on February 28. The event will start at 4 PM UTC+1 and will be live-streamed on YouTube.

Realme GT Neo 5

The GT 3 for international markets is nothing but rebranded Realme GT Neo 5 from China. The handset will be available in 150W and 240W charging variants.

The highlights of the device will include a 6.74-inch 10-bit 144Hz AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip, a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary camera, dual stereo speakers, an in-screen fingerprint sensor, infrared sensor, and more.

Vivo V27 Series

The Vivo V27 series will be debuting in India on March 1. It will be announced in a live stream that will start at 12 PM IST.

The lineup will consist of three smartphones, namely Vivo V27, Vivo V27 Pro, and Vivo V27e. These handsets are rebranded versions of the Vivo S16 series sold in China with a few differences.

Like its predecessors, the Vivo V27 series is all about design and selfie cameras. However, unlike the previous models, the upcoming devices will also come with flagship-killer chipsets, such as MediaTek Dimensity 8200 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 870.

The Magic 5 Pro, which has yet to be introduced, successfully captured the photo. Honor will announce the smartphone on February 27th at the Mobile World Congress. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until then to learn about all of the device’s features. However, based on what we have seen, it is possible to say that it will be an ambitious model in terms of camera technology.

However, it is possible to access some features based on the photograph. Honor used it to substantiate that it was the Magic 5 Pro that took the picture. It has five shooting ranges – 0.5x for the ultrawide, 1x for the main camera, and 3.5x and 5x, both likely from the same periscope zoom camera. This could very well be the 64MP 90mm telephoto from the Magic4 Pro.

Honor has confirmed to attend MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2023. The brand has scheduled its conference for February 27 at 1:30 PM CET.

It has even revealed the devices that will be unveiled at this event. They are Honor Magic 5 series and Honor Magic Vs.

The latter is the company’s latest foldable, which went official in China in late November. Whereas, the former will be new smartphones and a live image of one of them has leaked.

Digital Chat Station shared a live picture of the alleged Honor Magic 5 Pro on Weibo. The image includes two units with the camera app opened.

The tipster says that the phone will sport a quad-curved display with a pill-shaped cutout for dual front-facing cameras on the top left corner. Even the rear of the handset will feature quad curves. He jokingly calls it a ‘soap’.

Apart front the design apart, the leaker also talks about the camera zoom capabilities. The handset will offer four options, such as 0.5x, 1x, 3.5x, and 5x.

Unfortunately, that’s all the information he has to share. But we are looking forward to learning about more details in the coming days through leaks and official teasers.

Honor is ready to launch the Magic 5 series in the international market during MWC Barcelona scheduled on February 27. The flagship series is expected to include four smartphones— the Magic 5, Magic 5 Pro, Magic 5 Ultimate, and the Magic 5 Lite. Ahead of the former debut, the Pro and Ultimate models have bagged China’s 3C certification. Here are the details.

Honor Magic 5 Pro and Magic 5 Pro Ultimate have received China’s compulsory 3C certification with the model numbers PGT-AN10 and PGT-AN20. The authority reveals the two flagships will support the HW-110600C00 charger with Honor SuperCharge at 66W.

Honor Magic 4 Pro

While 66W charging cannot be called slow, it’s still not on par with what other Chinese flagships offer. Even the last year’s Magic 4 Pro model came with 100W charging support. Notably, Realme recently introduced a smartphone with extreme 240W charging.

Previous reports suggest the Magic 5 Pro and 5 Ultimate will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 5.0 storage. The Magic 5 Pro could feature a triple camera unit on the back with a Sony IMX878 sensor with OIS support as the primary camera, an OmniVision OV64B lens, and a Sony IMX516 camera.

The Magic 5 Ultimate could feature a 50MP Sony IMX989 sensor with OIS support, a Sony IMX758 lens, a Sony IMX516 sensor, and another OIS-enabled Sony camera. Both smartphones are said to have a ToF lens and a flicker sensor.

Both Honor smartphones could have a 6.8-inch OLED LPTO panel with a 1Hz–120Hz refresh rate, 2160Hz PWM dimming, 480Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+, and up to 1100 units of brightness.

Honor Magic 5 series MWC teaser takes aim at Samsung’s Galaxy series

Honor is gearing up to launch the Magic 5 series of smartphones soon. The launch will likely happen at this year’s MWC event in Barcelona.

A well-known tipper just tweeted what appears to be a teaser image. “Go beyond the Galaxy to witness the real Magic” is written on the image, and the capitalization of Galaxy is obviously a jab at Samsung’s flagship line. So it’s evident that Honor has big goals for its forthcoming top dog. The current speculated specifications also seem extremely promising.

The first black hole ever photographed by the Event Horizon Telescope appears in the teaser’s background, which is an interesting reference to the Galaxy series.

More information about Honor’s MWC plans is still awaited, and we’ll keep you informed as soon as it is released. For now, let’s take a look at what’s known about the device so far.

There will be a fingerprint scanner embedded in the display of all three gadgets. While the other models will offer 3D facial recognition, the Magic 5 will only enable 2D face unlock. Just yesterday, we had covered a report regarding the Honor Magic 5 series of smartphones that revealed some key details regarding the flagship smartphones’ display. And now, another leak has revealed other specifications regarding the upcoming high end devices and even their possible launch timeline.

The latest news arrives from a tipster @厂长是关同学 who shared the information on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). Based on our previous report, the Chinese smartphone maker’s Magic 5 and Magic 5 Pro will feature a 6.78 inch and 6.81 inch curved AMOLED display panel respectively, which will support PWM dimming and LTPO technology.

The resolution on the higher end Pro variant is rumored to be a 2K resolution with support for 120Hz high refresh rate. Now, the latest leak reveals that the latest Magic 5 series of smartphones will feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. This isn’t surprising considering the upcoming devices are the brand’s premium flagship models. For those unaware, the chipset is manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process that has the SM8550 model number.

The leak further adds that the Magic 5 series will also arrive with significant improvements in terms of camera, with better image quality and even stability as well. Earlier this year, Honor had announced its Magic 4 series of flagship smartphones in its home market of China. And with the year nearing its end, the next generation of Magic 5 series smartphones are also expected to launch sometime in the first quarter of next year.

Now, a new leak from known tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed some of the key details regarding the display on these upcoming premium smartphones from Honor. Ahead of their launch, the tipster leaked display specs of both the Magic 5 and Magic 5 Pro. The former sports a 6.78 inch display while the latter has a 6.81 inch display. Apparently, the display on both models will also be a curved panel as well.

The larger panel will also have a higher resolution than its smaller sibling as well. Notably, the tipster claims that the Magic 5 series will also arrive with support for LTPO technology and even high frequency PWM Dimming as well. Based on his previous report, the Honor Magic 5 series will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Furthermore, it is rumored to feature a 13 megapixel selfie camera and a ToF 3D sensor of the Huawei Mate 50 series on the rear along with a 50 megapixel primary camera.
