Huawei announced its unique smartphone, the Huawei Honor Magic back in December 2016. This was a pretty different flagship from the numerous offerings available in the market, mainly because of its smart personalized features to enhance the overall user experience.

Naturally, the company showcased its innovative device at CES 2017 and the same was up for display at MWC 2017 as well. We got a chance to play around with this unique handset and here are our Huawei Honor Magic Hands on images and impressions.

The Huawei Honor Magic comes with a unique design that is curved on all the eight sides. So, the phone is curved both on the front as well as the back, boasting of perfect symmetry in design. This helps in making the grip more comfortable and with the premium 3D glass used on the device, the Honor Magic felt great in our hands.

While the phone looks great from the outside, what’s really the highlight of the Huawei Honor Magic is its software personalizations. There are a lot of interesting features embedded right into the device to offer a much better UI experience. For example, there’s a DeepThink feature that will reveal relevant data based on the information on the webpage. All you have to do is long-press the home button to activate this feature. Then there’s the Facecode Intelligent Recognition which recognizes your face to reveal messages on screen. Only those faces pre-registered on the device will be able to view the messages.

Another interesting feature is the WiseScreen Sensor Magic Intelligent sensor which uses the front infrared sensor as well as the sensors inbuilt into the device to unlock and activate the screen if it recognizes you as the person picking up the phone.

Along with the impressive software features, the Huawei Honor Magic comes with pretty decent specs as well. The phone boasts of a 5.09-inch display with 2K resolution. The phone is powered by Kirin 950 chipset under the hood and comes with a home button up front that accepts multiple gestures. The rear camera on the phone is pretty good, featuring dual 12MP sensors with f/2.2, 1.4um pixels and 6P lens with dual tone flash. Up front, there is an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter. As for connectivity, the Huawei Honor Magic comes with standard USB port, 3.5mm headphone jack as well as SIM card slot at the bottom of the phone. The power button and volume buttons are all located on the right while the left side is clean.

The Honor Magic is one of the most anticipated phones for the year. The timing seems to be perfect, like the final act of the show before we pull the curtains on 2016. Launching in six days from now, more details are still showing up.

First is a possible pricing from online mall, JingDong who have the phone listed for ¥9999 (~$1447.62) which is really really on the high side. However, that’s not the official price but judging from the statement by analyst @Pan Jiutang in this article, we doubt the Honor Magic will sell for less than a $1000.

Next is an image of 16 possible configurations the Honor Magic might come with. There are a number of POSSIBLE configurations the Honor magic may have like dual cameras (rear and front) and curved edges, and some we think it is just not going to have such as a foldable display. One feature on the list we are sure of is the super fast charging battery. Other specs Huawei/Honor may throw in include water resistance, wireless charging, and artificial intelligence.

The Honor Magic is launching on Friday and is expected to feature a Kirin 950 SoC, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and dual cameras on the front and rear but judging from the leaked image from last week, it seems it will have only a single camera in front. But if that image is a fake, I would prefer the Honor just having only a pair of dual cameras that can be used for the front too. Something similar to the Honor 7i’s camera design.

After the Xiaomi Mi Mix, we are all excited to meet the new concept smartphone to be announced soon, the Huawei Honor Magic. The company has already confirmed the release to be on December 16, which is less than a week away. While we are expecting some amazing specs on the device, new rumors about the phone has cropped up online, toning down the expected Honor Magic specifications to some extent.

The new rumor says that the Huawei Honor Magic will come with Kirin 950 octa-core chipset (when there’s already Kirin 960 used by the Mate 9) along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. This isn’t exactly mind blowing specification, but it’s still decent. Further, the phone is said to sport a compact 5-inch display with 2K resolution, which would translate into some serious pixel density (~587 ppi). There will be dual cameras on the front as well as the back (12MP). The front would also boast of Iris recognition. Finally, for fast charging, the Huawei Honor Magic is said to support 5V / 8A charging tech, which would translate into 40W charging, much, much faster than the current Mate 9’s 25W charging. However, the battery capacity is said to be limited to 2900mAh.

The Honor Magic is said to have already passed through the 3C certification website back in August under the model number NTS-AL00. Also, the code name for the phone is reportedly “Natasha”.
