Following its debut at IFA, Honor Magic V3 is now confirmed for an India launch. HTech CEO Madhav Sheth shared the news in an interview with Times Network and Digit.

Honor has yet to bring its foldable phones to the Indian market, so the Magic V3 will be its first release in the country. However, Madhav Sheth also confirmed that the company will launch the Magic V2, its predecessor, alongside the V3. Both models are expected to arrive by the end of 2024.

Honor Magic V2 / V3 Price in India

Madhav Sheth also shared pricing details for the foldables. The figures aren’t exact, but the Honor Magic V2 will be priced under Rs 1 lakh, while the Magic V3 will cost more than that.

For its price, the Magic V2 could become one of the more affordable foldables in the Indian market. Currently, the Tecno Phantom V Fold, launched in May 2023 at Rs 88,888, holds the title of the most affordable foldable in India.

Both the Honor Magic V3 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold prioritize build quality and durability, but they take different paths in design. The Magic V3 is lighter at 230 grams while the Pixel weighs 257 grams.

Honor’s MagicOS 8.0.1, based on Android 14, delivers a seamless software experience, but it can’t quite match the level of Google’s AI integration, which is deeply embedded into the core of its OS.

The camera systems on these foldables are one of the biggest differentiators. Honor focuses on hardware versatility with a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 40 MP ultrawide camera. These provide a solid range of shooting options, especially with 3.5x optical zoom on the telephoto lens. 

On the other hand, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold leans heavily into computational photography, where its 48 MP main camera and 10.8 MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom come into play. Google’s camera software, aided by the Tensor G4’s AI capabilities, shines through features like Add Me and Best Take. 

So for those who prefer letting the software do the heavy lifting, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s AI-driven enhancements make it a compelling option. It offers a superior experience in low-light conditions and dynamic range, making everyday photography more intuitive and less reliant on manual adjustments.

In terms of video capabilities, both devices support 4K recording at up to 60fps. However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold goes further by offering 10-bit HDR recording. It can capture more color detail, while the Honor Magic V3 remains reliable with gyro-EIS and OIS stabilization.

Battery Life and Charging

In terms of battery, the Honor Magic V3 comes equipped with a 5150 mAh cell, bigger than the 4650 mAh battery on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.  On paper, the Magic V3 should offer a better run time. However real-world usage will depend on how the devices manage power consumption with their foldable displays.

For charging, Honor supports faster wired charging at 66W, while the Pixel maxes out at 21W. Honor’s device also supports faster wireless charging at 50W, compared to the Pixel’s 7.5W. And Magic V3 also supports 5W reverse wired charging, a feature missing from the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Additional Features

In terms of additional features, both devices offer side-mounted fingerprint sensors, which are fast and reliable. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold includes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support and a satellite SOS service, which provides an extra layer of safety for users in remote areas. Earlier this week, Honor unveiled Magic V3 at IFA 2024 as the world’s slimmest foldable. However, this launch wasn’t without some drama. In the lead-up to the reveal, Honor went all out with their marketing; and they didn’t shy away from even taking direct shots at Samsung.

First, they made fun of Samsung foldables for being too thick. Then came the “world’s smallest apology” — a cheeky message etched on the Magic V3’s hinge for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 owners who feel ‘let down’ by their ‘chunky’ folding phone.

Now, Honor’s marketing team is back for round three. And this time, they’ve taken their rivalry on the road.

There’s currently a van cruising the streets of France, plastered with – wait for it – a “review” by “Sam Sung.” Yes, you read that right. It’s not a typo, folks.

Sam Sung is a biomedical science graduate from London (that’s what the billboard says), who declares Magic V3 as the “No.1 foldable” and “so much thinner and lighter” than their current phone. 

That’s not it — the company found another Sam Sung, a recruiter from Glasgow, who chimes in with, “easily the best foldable phone.” Clever pun? Absolutely. 

But it all feels a bit forced now.

Look, playful marketing is all fun and games, and a little friendly competition can be good for the industry. But the constant stream of Samsung-bashing feels like Honor is trying too hard.

There’s no denying that the Magic V3 is a sleek device with impressive specs. But with every dig at Samsung, the focus seems to be shifting away from the phone’s merits and towards the competitive rivalry. While some might find this humor refreshing, it could also backfire.

Think about it. Instead of focusing on why someone should choose the Magic V3 over the competition, Honor keeps reminding us of the competition itself. This could potentially alienate some consumers who just want to see a strong product on its own terms.

“Sam Sung” reviews are cute, but they’re not exactly inspiring confidence. They feel gimmicky, at least to me, and are distracting buyers from the core message — is the Magic V3 really a better foldable than what Samsung has to offer? Or is it just the slimmest phone with a side of shade?

Don’t get me wrong, a little friendly competition is healthy. But Honor might benefit from shifting gears a bit. Let the Magic V3 speak for itself. Highlight its unique features, show its performance, and let the consumers decide who reigns supreme in the foldable phone arena. After all, a good product should be able to stand on its own two (well, one folding) legs.

Ahead of its September 5th launch, Honor‘s marketing campaign for the Magic V3 foldable phone has been nothing if not aggressive. From a Guinness World Record attempt to thinly veiled digs at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, the company hasn’t shied away from a bit of controversy.

In their latest effort, Honor printed a message directly on the hinge of the Magic V3 as an “apology” to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 owners. To add to the spectacle, they are calling it the “world’s smallest apology to Samsung owners on the world’s thinnest foldable phone.”

And now, you’re probably looking at the new HONOR Magic V3 and feeling a little… betrayed. Size matters, and we feel your pain. Like being tipped for a gold medal and then coming last in the race, the knowledge that a thinner, lighter, and more durable foldable exists is enough to make anyone question their choices.

HONOR has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to introduce three new cloud AI features on its upcoming foldable smartphone, the HONOR Magic V3. These features, which will be unveiled at IFA 2024 along with the Magic V3, include AI Eraser, Face-to-Face Translation, and HONOR Notes Live Translation.

The HONOR Magic V3, which was launched in China last month, aims to improve the foldable smartphone experience for global users with these new AI features.

Berg spent eight hours meticulously building the record-breaking structure. It reached an impressive height of 54 stories and was made entirely of standard playing cards without using glue. The final touch was placing the Honor Magic V3 on top to showcase its lightweight design.

Generally, the thickness, weight, and durability of the folding mechanism and the foldable screen are the main concerns of consumers. The Honor official revealed that the company is working to overcome these challenges.

When asked why Apple has not yet launched a foldable phone, he suggested that the company might be struggling to overcome the challenges associated with the form factor. “If (Apple) launched it in 26 years, it means that they are optimistic about this track, so why not launch it now? It should be that they are not capable of making a good foldable screen. This is an obvious logic,” (translated).

Speaking of the company’s own product development, the official stated that if the thickness and weight of their foldable phones are comparable to those of other manufacturers, customers are likely to opt for them as well. He emphasized that they would address reliability issues through advancements in material science.

He added that the goal isn’t just to make the foldable phones thin and light but also to provide additional value to users. He also noted that a foldable phone with a good flow and consistency between the inner and outer screen can offer an experience that can never be offered through candy-bar phones. Samsung has scheduled its next Galaxy Unpacked event for July 10 (Wednesday). The company will take wraps off Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 at the conference that will be held in Paris, France.

Both the latest foldables from the South Korean tech giant will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. They will arrive with minor upgrades over their predecessors.

Honor has confirmed that its upcoming Magic V3 foldable phone will launch on July 12th. Ahead of this, real-life images and camera samples of the device have surfaced on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, courtesy of tipster WhyLab.

The phone is shown in Orange with a faux leather back and a golden camera frame, and in White with a glass panel and a silver-finished camera frame. Additionally, the foldable will be available in Black and Green.

The tipster also showed the slim profile of the phone both folded and unfolded. When unfolded, Honor Magic V3 is said to be the world’s thinnest foldable. It will retain that title from the Magic V2, which currently holds the record at 9.9mm. This is partly thanks to the new 10% silicon content battery which reportedly makes the Magic V3 4.4% thinner than its predecessor.

Moving on, another image shows the crease of the Magic V3, and according to the tipster, users will hardly notice it when using the device.

The company revealed that the third generation of the silicon anode battery contains more than 10% silicon, which is happening for the first time in the industry. According to the company, the energy density is 5.74% higher than the previous generation. It is a critical parameter in determining the performance of batteries, particularly in applications where size and weight are important.

A report earlier this week revealed that Xiaomi and Honor are both working on their new book-style foldable phones. Xiaomi’s offering, the Mix Fold 4, and Honor’s, the Magic V3, are expected to be powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. 

The report also tipped Mix Fold 4’s battery to be 5000mAh, while details regarding the Magic V3’s battery capacity were left undisclosed. But there was a subtle hint suggesting an even bigger battery for the V3.

However, in a recent Weibo post tipster Digital Chat Station revealed that Honor’s foldable will also feature a 5000mAh battery, matching the Mix Fold 4.

Currently, the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro holds the title for the foldable with the largest battery, boasting a massive 5700mAh cell despite its slim design.  It looks like it will hold onto that crown for a while longer.

Additionally, the tipster revealed that both foldables will retain side-mounted fingerprint sensors from their predecessors but will be thinner. The Mix Fold 4 is expected to be the slimmest foldable upon release, supported by the latest leak.

Furthermore, the tipster affirmed previously disclosed camera details for the Fold 4, featuring a 50MP quad-camera setup with a 5x periscope lens. The same report hinted at an exceptionally slim profile for the Mix Fold 4, possibly making it the thinnest foldable on the market upon release. It is also said to be the first Xiaomi foldable with water protection, as none of the company’s previous foldables have had any certification for water or splash resistance.

Regrettably, the leaker has not disclosed the specific names of these devices. Here, we can speculate on which foldable phones the source might be referring to.

Several reports have claimed that Vivo will be launching the Vivo X Fold 3 foldable phone in Q1 2024. The device will be joined by a more powerful variant dubbed the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro. However, it is unclear whether both devices will come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
