Zhao Ming, the CEO of HONOR Device Co., Ltd. recently revealed that the upcoming Honor MagicPad will be equipped with the same AI defocus vision relief technology as the upcoming Honor Magic V3. For those unfamiliar with the lineup, the upcoming tablet is going to succeed the company’s high-end Honor MagicPad 13 released in July last year.

AI defocus vision relief + 4320Hz PWM for eye-safely

It is also expected that the upcoming Honor MagicPad will support 4320 high-frequency PWM dimming. The 4320Hz high-frequency PWM was first offered by the Honor Magic 6 series. The IEEE Std1789-2015 international standard says that the flickering of a display becomes almost eye-safe when the PWM frequency exceeds 3125Hz. So the Honor Magic 6 and the upcoming high-end MagicPad can be considered eye-safe in this regard.

In addition to addressing eye fatigue, the upcoming MagicPad reportedly offers improved DC dimming, which combines color accuracy and eye protection at low brightness levels.

A tipster claimed that Honor has applied for a patent for AI-defocused vision relief technology, which can make the screen look like a defocused lens. It is expected to help the user in achieving vision relief. The 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming paired with the AI-defocused vision relief technology demonstrates the company’s focus on eye-safety.

As mentioned above, the new MagicPad is expected to be released in July along with the Honor Magic V3, which is expected to get even thinner as compared to its predecessor, the 9.9 mm Honor Magic V2, which was released in July last year.

To give you an idea of what to expect from the new tablet, last year’s MagicPad 13 offers a 13″ IMAX Enhanced TFT LCD display with a resolution of 1840 x 2880 pixels (~263 ppi density). The panel supports HDR10 and a peak brightness of 700 nits. It weighs 660g / 673g and is powered by the Snapdragon 888 5G and a 10,050 mAh battery.

On July 12, Honor is set to unveil the Magic V2 foldable smartphone as well as the Honor MagicPad tablet. The brand recently teased that the MagicPad will feature an IMAX Enhanced display, and now the official design of the tablet has been unveiled.

The images reveal tablet features a simple design with the inclusion of a double-ring camera module. Additionally, below the Honor brand logo, you can find the “IMAX Enhanced” emblem, indicating that the MagicPad has received certification for IMAX Enhanced. This certification ensures a high-quality audio and visual experience, comparable to the immersive standards of original IMAX theaters.

The Honor MagicPad tablet showcases remarkably slim bezels on all sides, with the top and bottom bezels being narrower than the left and right ones, creating an impressive design feature. From previous reports, we know that the tablet will sport a 13-inch, 2.8K display. It will come in cyan, gray, and warm gold color options. Lastly, the teaser reveals that the tablet will come with a detachable keyboard and a Stylus to cater to productivity and creative needs.

While specific information about the tablet remains undisclosed, it is anticipated to include a high-end processor from either Qualcomm or MediaTek. Speculations suggest the possibility of the tablet being equipped with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, similar to several recently released premium tablets.

The same event will see the arrival of multiple products, such as the Honor Watch 4 smartwatch, the Honor Smart Screen 5 TV, and the Honor MagicPad.

Honor MagicPad to feature IMAX Enhanced display

Honor has released the below poster to reveal that the Honor MagicPad will come equipped with a 13-inch tablet, which will offer a 2.8K resolution. The company also confirmed that it will come with support for IMAX Enhanced and an eye protection feature.

The IMAX Enhanced solution is a collaborative effort between IMAX and DTS to deliver an exceptional home theatre experience. Comparable to Intel’s Intel Evo project, products that bear the IMAX Enhanced logo are reputed to offer breathtaking visuals, featuring vibrant colors, enhanced contrast ratios, an immersive large-format display, improved clarity, and immersive audio effects that transport viewers into a whole new level of cinematic immersion. Hence, it appears that the Honor MagicPad will be a good device for content consumption.

The Honor Pad V8 Pro, which debuted in December 2022, was the first tablet to come with support for IMAX Enhanced. To recall, the tablet came equipped with a 12.1-inch LCD panel that offers 2560 x 1600 pixels and a 144Hz refresh rate. At present, there is no information available about the other specifications of the MagicPad.

In related news, the Honor Watch 4 that is expected to launch on July 12 is confirmed to arrive with support for eSIM. The Magic V2 may come in two options, such as the Honor Magic V2 featuring the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and the Magic V2 Supreme Edition with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
