A few days ago, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched its new budget smartphones — Honor Play 4T and Honor Play 4T Pro. Now, the Honor Play 4T Pro smartphone is finally available for purchase in its home country, China.

The base model of the device with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage is priced at 1,499 yuan which is approximately $213 while the model with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage costs 1,699 yuan, which is roughly $241. The Honor Play 4T is also available for purchase.

The smartphone comes packed with a 6.3-inch OLED display that offers screen resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels and 20:9 aspect ratio. The display uses a waterdrop notch design which still remains my favourite notch design.

It also comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor for added security. The device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 810 chipset, with 6/8GB of RAM And 128GB internal storage.

Coming to the photography, the Honor Play 4T Pro comes with a triple camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens, and a 2-megapixels depth of field sensor.

The phone runs Android operating system with Magic UI on top with support for GPU Turbo 3.0. The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery which supports 22.5W super fast charging, which the company claims can charge up to 58% in 30 minutes.

Design

Honor Play 4T Pro is not the most attractive device of the trio. Display

OLED displays are very hard to find in the price range of the Honor Play 4T Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6. But that is what you get with the Honor Play 4T Pro, despite its very affordable price. It offers an OLED display with deep blacks, vivid colors, and even an in-display fingerprint scanner. But Honor Play 4T Pro is also the device with the smallest panel: easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket, but less suitable for advanced usages such as productivity. Realme 6 has an IPS display, but it offers a high 90 Hz refresh rate, so it still remains a very interesting device in terms of display.

Specs & Software

The Kirin 810 SoC found on the Honor 4T Pro is a chipset offering better overall performance compared to Snapdragon 720G. Kirin 810 is even more efficient with its 7 nm production process. Still, a lot of people prefer the Snapdragon 720G due to the good reputation of Qualcomm’s chipset. Helio G90T is more or less at the same level as the Kirin 810, but it is less efficient since it is built at 12 nm. Honor Play 4T Pro, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Realme 6 run a customized version of Android 10, but the Honor Play 4T Pro does not get Google services.

Camera

The camera champion of this comparison is the Realme 6 Pro for a simple reason: it has a better main sensor on its rear camera setup. It boasts a 64 MP Samsung GW1 lens which is a midrange sensor, but still better than the 48 MP sensors found on Honor 4T Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro. The sensor is paired with an 8 MP ultrawide lens and two additional sensors for macros and depth calculation boasting a 2 MP resolution.

Battery

While Realme 6 is superior when it comes to cameras, Redmi Note 9 Pro wins when it comes to battery life thanks to its bigger 5020 mAh battery. Realme 6 wins the fast charging battle with a 30W power.

Price

Honor Play 4T Pro will hit the shelves with a €195 price tag, Realme 6 and Redmi Note 9 Pro cost Rs. 12999 in their base variants. The OLED display and the amazing performance of the Play 4T Pro make it a very interesting device, but Realme 6 still looks amazing with its better cameras and 90 Hz display. Honor has officially unveiled two new smartphones that are targeted at young people. The Honor Play 4T and Honor Play 4T Pro as they are called, come with impressive hardware and beautiful designs. Most of all, they are affordable with pricing starting at 1,199 yuan ($168).

Honor Play 4T- Specs, Features, Price

The Honor Play is the base model but that doesn’t make it a pushover. The device packs a 6.39-inch display with a waterdrop notch having a diameter of 4.5mm. The use of the waterdrop notch and a bezel-less design allows the screen ratio to get up to 90%. The display also bags the TUV Rheinland’s Blu-ray eye certification.

The Play 4T is powered by the old Hisilicon Kirin 710 chipset which is a 12nm chipset. The models start at 6GB RAM and 128GB storage as there won’t be a 64GB variant.

On the rear camera aspect, the Honor Play 4T packs a similar triple camera setup as the Pro version. The sensors include a 48-megapixel sensor, an 8 mega-pixel ultra-wide angle and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The device is said to feature a rear-mounted camera sensor.

The Honor Play 4T comes in Magic Night Black and Blue Water Emerald colors.

The Honor Play 4T Pro packs a 6.3-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and 20:9 aspect ratio. The display uses a waterdrop notch design which still remains my favourite notch design. The OLED display was fully utilized with the inclusion of an under-display fingerprint sensor.

The Honor Play 4T Pro is fired up by a Kirin 810 chipset which isn’t a 5G SoC. The chipset is still a powerful one, manufactured on a 7nm wafer. It features two large Cortex-A76 cores and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. The processor teams up with a Mali-G52 GPU to take care of the graphics. The GPU supports Kirin Gaming+ technology and fully upgrades the game experience through system-level AI FM scheduling technology. It supports 60fps high performance, HD image quality and GPU load optimization

In terms of AI, the Kirin 810 processor features a single-core Da Vinci architecture NPU which greatly improves the AI ​​computing power per unit area and fully stimulate the computing potential of the end-side AI. In addition, the processor is paired with 6GB / 8GB RAM options and 128GB storage.

In terms of photography, the Honor Play 4T series packs a triple rear camera setup housed in a rectangular module. On Thursday, Honor will be announcing the Honor Play 4T series of smartphones such as Honor Play 4T and Honor Play 4T Pro. Both phones have appeared on TENAA with their entire specifications. Even the appearances of both phones are known since they are listed for reservations in China. The Chinese firm has already revealed that the Honor Play 4T Pro is powered by Kirin 810. However, the name of the processor that fuels the Honor Play 4T was not known. A fresh report on 91mobiles that cites leaked information from tipster Ishan Agarwal reveals that the Play 4T is driven by the dated Kirin 710A SoC.

Honor Play 4T and Play 4T Pro specifications (Rumored)

The Honor Play 4Tv will have 6.4-inch IPS LCD HD+ panel with 261ppi pixel density support. The punch-hole screen has an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The back panel of the phone is decked with an LED flash assisted 48-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera system and a fingerprint scanner.

The Kirin 710A chipset from 2018 powers the Play 4T with 4 GB / 6 GB of RAM. The handset will be coming in China in 64 GB / 128 Gb storage versions. The Magic Ui 3.1 along with Android 10 OS will be preinstalled on the device.  The phone has a 4,000mAh battery that lacks support for fast charging. It supports Bluetooth 5.0.

When Honor announced the lunch date of Honor Play 4T series, the brand also appointed Wei Xialong as the new Product Manager of the series. Now, this executive has posted a selfie on his Weibo, which happens to slightly reveal the rear of the new handset in line with the teaser renders spotted on the product pre-order page.

As you can see from the picture posted by him, the upcoming Honor Play 4T / Pro will indeed have a vertical camera alignment like on a rectangular bump like most phones from the past few months. Although this picture does not reveal anything about the phone, we already know some of its specs from previous leaks and official teaser renders.

The Honor Play 4T will also be accompanied by a Pro variant with a major difference between the two being a 6.39-inches HD+ IPS LCD punch-hole panel with a traditional rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on the regular version and a  dew-drop notched 6.3-inches FHD+ OLED display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor on the Pro model.

Under the hood, the Pro variant is expected to feature the all-new Kirin 820 5G chipset, which recently debuted on the Honor 30S. On the other hand, the standard model will be powered by an unknown octa-core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz. Both devices will come in 6GB + 128GB configuration but the standard version will also be available in 4GB + 64GB in addition to 6GB + 256GB configuration of the Pro model.

The Honor Play 4T will be made official on April 9. Ahead of the launch, some of the known retailer sties of China such as JD, Suning and Tmall have started with the reservations of the Play 4T. Interestingly, the reservation pages on JD reveals that the company will be not only launching the Play 4T and Play 4T Pro phones.

The images that have surfaced on reservations pages show that there are two kinds of Play 4T. One of them has a waterdrop notch and under-display fingerprint sensor. This handset could be the Honor Play 4T Pro. The handset can be seen in black, green and gradient white colors.

On the other side, there is a variant that features a punch-hole screen and a conventional fingerprint sensor on its rear. This device is likely to debut as Honor Play 4T. Apart from green, the handset could be available in other color choices.

The image of the Honor Play 4T Pro resembles with the AQM-AL10 phone that was certified by TENAA telecom regulatory body of China in March. The TENAA listing revealed that it has a full HD+ 6.3-inch AMOLED display with 20:9 aspect ratio, Kirin 810 chipset, 6 GB / GB RAM, 128 GB / 256 GB storage, 48-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple cameras, 16-megapixel front camera and 4,000mAh battery with 22.5W rapid charging support.

The Honor Play 4T seems to be AKA-AL10 smartphone which also received TENAA certification last month. It features a 6.39-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution support, 2.0GHz octa-core processor, 4 GB / 6 GB RAM, 64 GB / 128 GB storage, 48-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera, 8-megapixel selfie snapper and 4,000mAh battery.
