Honor Play 6T Pro goes on sale in China; price starts at 1,399 yuan ($220)

A few days ago, Honor announced its new Play-series smartphones — Honor Play 6T and Honor Play 6T Pro. Today, the company has officially started selling the Play 6T Pro smartphones in the Chinese market.

The base model of the Honor Play 6T Pro with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is priced at 1,399 yuan (~$220) while the model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage costs 1,599 yuan which is about $251. It is being offered in three color options — Titanium Silver, Midnight Black, and Rose Gold.

As for the specifications, the smartphone features a 6.7-inch IPS LCD display that offers 1080 x 2388 pixels screen resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 93.6 percent screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 810 processor and packs up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

In the camera department, the phone features a dual-camera setup on the back that includes a 48-megapixel AI primary sensor which uses a 1/2-inch outsole and has a single pixel size of 0.8um, and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front side, the device has an 8-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

It runs the Android 11 operating system out of the box with the company’s own Magic UI 5.0 custom user interface on top. The device is powered by a 4,000mAh battery that supports 40W super-fast charging.

There’s also an Honor Play 6T smartphone that has a starting price of 1,199 yuan (~$188) which will be available for purchase in China from 15th April.

Huawei’s spin-off Honor may be under new ownership but that has not stopped the company from maintaining its naming system. The brand has now launched two new smartphones under the Honor Play series. The models are the Honor Play 6T and Play 6T Pro.

The most spectacular feature of the Honor Play 6T series is no doubt the smart storage expansion technology. This feature allows for RAM expansion by up to 2GB bringing up to 10GB of available RAM. Also, the entire Play 6T series is equipped with exclusive self-developed cache compression technology, which enables the expanded 2GB to achieve 3 times expansion, making 2GB equivalent to achieving a 6GB expansion effect. This effectively improves the cold start speed of apps and the hardware background keep-alive rate.

Honor Play 6T Pro – Specs & Features

The Honor Play6T Pro is obviously the high-end model among the two and it shows its dominance both in the design aspect and the hardware features. The phone packs a 6.7-inch display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate and a 93.6% screen-to-body ratio. The device features a thin and lightweight build as it weighs just 175g and has a thickness of 7.45mm. The device comes with straight edges but well-chamfered corners.

The Play6T Pro is powered by a 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset and supports 5G dual-SIM/dual standby. The processor pairs with 8GB of RAM and there are 128GB and 256GB storage options available.

Honor Play 6T Pro packs a 4000mAh battery that supports 40W super-fast charging. The battery can be charged up to 28% in 10 minutes and 67% in 30 minutes. Just 10 minutes of charging can deliver up to 4 hours of online play.

For photography, the Play 6T Pro is equipped with a 48MP AI main camera which uses a 1/2-inch outsole and has a single pixel size of 0.8um. The four-in-one pixel is equivalent to 1.6um. Thus, it delivers images with vivid clarity and good background detail under low light conditions.

On the other hand, the Honor Play 6T is equipped with a 6.74-inch dot notch display, which also supports a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. The phone is slightly thicker at 8.62mm and weighs 198 grams.

In other aspects, the vanilla Play 6T packs a large 5000mAh battery that supports 22.5W super fast charging. This explains why it weighs more than the Play6T Pro.

In terms of photography, the Honor Play6T packs a 5-megapixel front camera while at the rear, there is a triple camera setup consisting of a 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel lens combination.

Honor Play 6T and Honor Play 6T Pro Prices & Availability

In terms of price, the Honor Play 6T Pro 8GB+128GB is priced at 1399 yuan, while the topmost variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 1599 yuan.

On its part, the Honor Play 6T 8GB+128GB version is priced at 1199 yuan and the 8GB+256GB version is priced at 1399 yuan. The models will go on sale from April 15.

The Honor Play 6T is available in Magic Night Black, Charm Sea Blue, and Titanium Air Silver color options. The two models run on MagicUI 5.0 based on Android 12.

HONOR Play6T thin and light phone series launch date announced

HONOR today announced that its upcoming Play6T phone series will be launched on April 7th.

According to its filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the front of the HONOR Play6T Pro will have a straight screen with a punch-hole for the selfie camera. The edges of the phone will be flat and will retain a 3.5mm headphone jack. The rear has a squarish camera module containing a dual-lens setup — a 48MP primary camera paired with a 2MP macro lens. Upfront, there’s an 8MP selfie shooter.

The phone has a thickness of 7.45mm and weighs just 175g and its display will be a 6.7-inch 120Hz LCD panel with 2388×1080 resolution. Its built-in 4000mAh battery supports 40W wired fast charging.

The Honor Play6T Pro should be available in 8+128GB and 8+256GB variants. It isn’t clear what processor the phone will be equipped with — some say that it will be the Snapdragon 680 while others claim it to be the Dimensity 900. Some even say that it will be the Dimensity 8100 but honestly feels a bit too high-end for the device.

The series seems to be comprised of two models — there’s the HONOR Play6T Pro and then there’s the HONOR Play6T. As usual, both will be launched in China first with a global launch following sometime after, that is, if HONOR indeed decides to make them available globally.
