Last month, Huawei’s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor Play 7C in China. While the phone went on sale in China from 13th March, the Flame Red color variant was not available for purchase. Today, the company has announced that the Flame Red color variant of the Honor Play 7C will be available on sale from 17th April.

The 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model is priced at 899 Yuan (approximately $143) while the top-end variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage cost 1299 Yuan, which roughly converts to $207. Apart from Red color, the device is also available in Black, Gold, and Blue color options.

The Honor 7C sports a large 5.99-inch TFT LCD IPS display with 1440 x 720 pixels screen resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 450 14nm octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, with integrated Adreno 506 GPU.

The processor is paired with 3GB of RAM on the standard version and there’s also another version which packs 4GB RAM. The 3GB RAM version houses 32GB of storage while the 4GB RAM  model comes with 64GB of internal storage. Both models come with a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 256GB.

The smartphone features a dual camera setup at the rear, which is located on the top left corner and is aligned horizontally with an LED flash on the inner edge. It comprises a 13-megapixel primary + 2-megapixel secondary camera sensors. The secondary camera is a bokeh camera which should create vivid shots with blurred background. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with the display acting as a smart soft light when taking selfies.

There’s a fingerprint sensor on the back and the phone comes with the face unlock feature. The device is running the latest EMUI 8.0 custom interface which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The phone packs a 3,000mAh battery which the company claims is optimized to provide longer battery life.

There was a time that phones priced under $300 had a terrible build quality but that has changed now. With just $150, you can get a well-built phone that should serve you well, and the new Honor 7C proves that.

The Honor 7C comes in a powder blue box which as far as I can remember hasn’t changed since the days of the Honor 3C. It has the name of the phone written on top and on the sides. There are no images on the box as Honor is keeping things simple. Plus you are actually not going to go back to the box after the first day.

Inside the box is the Magic Night Black Variant, a microUSB cable, and a wall charger. The charger and cable are white and are likely the same for all color variants. The front of the Honor 7C is black just like the Aurora Blue and Red variant and the 5.99” HD+ display is covered by a 2.5D glass which gives it a premium look.

At the top sits a sensor, an 8MP front facing camera, the earpiece, and a LED flash. There is Honor’s branding on the bottom bezel. There are side bezels too but they have been kept as small as possible. Even though the display has an 18:9 aspect ratio, the phone is still big. The corners of the phone are curved to make holding it a bit more comfortable.

The back is largely made of metal save for the top and bottom where you have the antenna lines which are made of plastic. The back of the phone is also curved at the sides for better handling.

Gracing the back are slightly raised dual cameras and LED flash positioned at the top left corner, and a fingerprint scanner that sits in the upper middle part of the phone. There is also a secondary microphone above the upper antenna line.

At the bottom of the phone is a speaker grille, a microUSB cable and a 3.5mm audio jack. There are also two screws flanking the USB port. The top side is bare.

The volume rocker and power button are on the left and the triple card tray (dual nano+microSD card) is on the left.

The Honor 7C is a mid-range phone powered by a Snapdragon 450 processor. It comes in 3GB RAM/4GB RAM variants with 32GB/64GB of storage. A dedicated MicroSD card slot lets you add up to an extra 256GB of storage. You also get Android 8.0 Oreo, a 3000mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and face unlock.

Huawei’s Honor brand has launched the Honor 7C in China and the smartphone comes with a number of surprises. The Honor 7C adopts the still trending Full-screen design with the 18:9 aspect ratio. The device also comes with a sleek design and dual rear cameras and the selfie shooter packs facial recognition feature and some smart features for better selfies.

Specifications

The Honor 7C sports a large 5.99-inch TFT LCD IPS display with an HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The device is powered by an unnamed 14nm Octa-core chipset clocked at 1.8GHz, with integrated Adreno 506 GPU. Huawei chose to keep the identity of the processor a secret but it is interesting to note that none of Huawei’s Hisilicon line of chipsets from the mid-range to the flagship chips integrates the Adreno GPU. The Honor 7C likely packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor which is built on the 14nm silicon and comes with support for FHD+ displays. The chipset is clocked at 1.8GHz maximum and integrates an Adreno 506 GPU. Going further, the processor is paired with 3GB of RAM on the standard version while there is a 4GB RAM version. The 3GB RAM version houses 32GB of storage while the 4GB RAM  models feature 64GB of storage. Both storages are expandable up to 256GB.

The 7C is a dual SIM smartphone and has the SIM card tray located on the left side of the display. There is also an independent microSD slot and so users won’t need to sacrifice a SIM slot for microSD as is the case with some models. 

On the camera end, the Honor midrange model packs a dual camera setup at the rear. Design-wise, the camera is located on the top left corner and is aligned horizontally with an LED flash on the inner edge. All three sits on a bump which isn’t too high but is noticeable. The rear cameras comprise a 13MP + 2MP combination. The secondary camera is a bokeh camera which should create vivid shots with blurred bckground. At the front, the Honor 7C packs an 8MP selfie shooter with the display acting as a smart soft light which illuminates when selfies are to be taken. The brightness of the light is determined by the level of illumination of the environment. Honor  shared some camera samples shot by the selfie cameras and it doesn’t disappoint. Furthermore, the Honor 7C runs on the latest EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box. The device also packs a 3000mAh battery which is optimised to provide longer battery life.

Pricing & Availability

The Honor 7C comes with a price that will shock you. The standard version having 3GB RAM+ 32GB storage is priced at just 899 Yuan (~$142) which is very affordable. On the other hand, the higher version with 4GB RAM + 64GB storage comes in at 1,299 Yuan (~$205). You’ll agree the smartphone is offered at a very cheap price considering the specification and premium build. The device will go on sale at 10 AM on March 13 via Huawei Mall, Jingdong, Tmall, Suning, Gome and Weipin. Presale is already ongoing on the various channels. There’s no word yet on when the model will roll out globally.

Huawei’s Honor brand is expected to launch the Honor Play 7C on March 12. It is just three days to the launch event and the company has intensified its efforts to promote the device. A new teaser video is the latest medium for such promotion.

The video which was posted on Honor’s official Weibo page basically teases the already confirmed features of a dual camera setup and facial recognition technology which would be onboard the device. You can check out the video from below.

The specification and design of the Honor Play 7C have already been revealed when the device received certification from the Chinese Telecoms regulatory agency TENAA. From the TENAA listing, we can grab that the Honor Play 7C will pack a 5.99-inch full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and narrow bezels. The midrange model will be available in a 3GBRAM and 4GB RAM variant and both versions will be fueled by a 1.8GHz Octa-core processor believed to be a Kirin chipset. The device will also come with dual-SIM card slots as well as a separate microSD slot. On the design angle, the rear cameras will be located at the top left corner, aligned in a horizontal plane and will be a 13MP + 20MP combo with LED flash. While the selfie camera will be an 8MP sensor which seems to also have an LED flash. There is also going to be a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device will get its juice from a disappointed 2900mAh battery. Honor Play 7C will run Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 out of the box.

According to an official teaser published by the Chinese company on Weibo, the Honor Play 7C will be officially announced on March 12. The post contains an image with several objects in a smartphone-shaped arrangement, and these objects are suggesting several important features of the phones. The camera and lens at the bottom suggest that this device will have a pretty  innovative camera department, even though it is expected to be an affordable device. In fact, this handset is tipped to come with four cameras, two on the back and two on the front side.

Given that there is a mask in the teaser, we guess that Honor Play 7C will support facial recognition, and there will also be an enhanced beauty mode for selfies. It is not mentioned whether the facial recognition feature will rely on a depth sensor or will it be just like the software-based Face Unlock which has recently arrived on some Huawei devices through an update. A depth sensor like the one of iPhone X would surely make the facial recognition more secure and difficult to bypass but that’s unlikely considering its budget placement. The display will have a size of 5.99 inches with an 18:9 aspect ratio and narrow bezels. There are two SIM Cards and a micro SD on the top of the image.

This means that the phone will have a dual SIM dual standby slot, and maybe even a micro SD dedicated slot which will not prevent the users from using both the SIM Card slots. About a month ago, an alleged Honor Play 7C was officially certified by TENAA in three variants with the model numbers LND-AL30, LND-AL40, and LND-TL30. In the renders surfaced it had a full metal unibody design an 18:9 display, a fingerprint reader placed on the back and four cameras.
