The Honor X9c sports a 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The standout figure is its claimed 4,000 nits peak brightness, a massive jump from the 1,200 nits on the X9b. While real-world brightness doesn’t quite reach those marketing claims, outdoor legibility is excellent, and colours appear vibrant with good sharpness at 437ppi. Honor has also added 3,840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming for improved eye comfort during extended use.

Slim bezels contribute to an immersive viewing experience, although the pill-shaped cut-out for the selfie camera does intrude slightly. One notable drawback is the lack of HDR support for streaming, which limits the display’s potential despite its strong specifications.

On the audio front, the phone includes stereo speakers that get reasonably loud. Dialogue and vocals are clear, but highs can sound sharp at max volume, and bass response is lacking compared to some competitors. T66W HONOR SuperCharge system fills the phone to around 50% in 30 minutes and completes a full charge in about 70–75 minutes. While competitors have started offering 80W or even 90W charging, Honor’s solution is still more than adequate for most users.

Software-wise, the phone runs MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15. It offers a smooth and intuitive experience, with handy features like Magic Capsule, Magic Text, and AI Eraser. Honor also includes useful multitasking tools such as Magic Portal and Parallel Space. However, bloatware remains an issue, with some pre-installed apps like TikTok not relevant to the Indian market. Software support is limited to 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security patches, which trails behind what brands like Samsung and OnePlus currently offer.

Cameras and Other Features

On the camera front, the X9c takes a mixed approach. The 108-megapixel main sensor with OIS/EIS delivers sharp and detailed shots in good daylight conditions. Colours appear punchy—sometimes too punchy, leaning towards oversaturation. The sensor allows up to 3x lossless in-sensor zoom, which is effective for portraits and close-ups. Portrait mode itself is serviceable, with decent edge detection but occasional errors around hair or complex subjects. Low-light performance is average, with noticeable noise and some light bloom around bright sources.

The secondary 5-megapixel ultrawide camera is a weak point, producing soft textures and struggling in low light. Purple fringing and overexposure are common issues. Unlike some rivals, there’s no telephoto lens, limiting flexibility. On the front, the 16-megapixel selfie camera produces good daylight selfies with AI beautification and optional bokeh blur, but low-light selfies lack detail.

Extra features include AI motion sensing, multi-video recording, and editing tools like AI Eraser. While these features are useful, execution isn’t always flawless, with occasional smudges left after AI edits.

Connectivity and extras round out the package. The phone supports dual SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and an IR blaster. Honor includes a case, screen protector, USB-C cable, and charger in the box, which is increasingly rare among mid-range devices.

These strengths make it a reliable everyday phone for users who prioritise longevity and consistent performance over raw power. Its slim, stylish design ensures it doesn’t sacrifice looks for toughness, and Honor’s decision to include essential accessories in the box is commendable.

However, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor feels dated, the ultrawide camera is weak, and the lack of HDR support holds back the otherwise impressive display. For existing Honor X9b users, the upgrades may feel incremental rather than transformative. Meanwhile, rivals like iQOO and Motorola offer stronger gaming performance and more versatile camera setups at similar prices.

At Rs 21,999, the Honor X9c is best suited for those who value durability, battery endurance, and a bright display over chasing benchmark scores or advanced photography features. It isn’t the most powerful phone in its class, but it is certainly one of the toughest and most dependable.

Honor began teasing the arrival of the Honor X9c 5G back in February this year for the Indian market. However, the brand couldn’t proceed with the launch at that time. The phone, which originally debuted globally in November 2024, is now all set to go official in India on July 7—just days ahead of Amazon India’s Prime Day sale.

Honor X9c 5G key specifications

As per the official information, the Honor X9c 5G will sport a 6.78-inch curved-edge AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3,840Hz PWM dimming for flicker-free viewing. Under the hood, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB of built-in storage.

The device will pack a large 6,600mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging. It will feature a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, while the rear will house a 108-megapixel main camera with OIS support, accompanied by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The phone will boot Android 15 out of the box with MagicOS 9.0 on top.

Other notable features include an IP65M-rated chassis, which ensures dust and water resistance. It will weigh 189 grams and measure 7.98mm in thickness. Connectivity options include USB-C, dual SIM support, and 5G connectivity.

The Honor X9c 5G will be available in two colors—Titanium Black and Jade Cyan. While the price is yet to be confirmed, it will go on sale from July 12 in a single 8GB+256GB configuration, exclusively via Amazon India.

Honor has released the Honor X9c, a mid-range smartphone designed to withstand the rigors of daily life, succeeding the X9b launched last October.

Marketed as Honor’s toughest phone, the X9c includes numerous durability features, such as improved drop and scratch resistance, making it an appealing option for users prioritizing resilience alongside capable specifications.

Build and durability:

Honor has significantly focused on durability for the X9c, highlighting its improved build quality. Rated for a drop resistance of 2 meters (6.6 feet), the phone has successfully passed SGS’ Comprehensive Reliability test, and it’s claimed to withstand up to 3,000 rubs with steel wool without noticeable damage.

The device is IP65M rated, providing comprehensive protection from water jets. Honor does offer other IP69-rated models, but the unique combination of durability features makes the X9c its toughest phone yet, ideal for those needing enhanced ruggedness.

The Honor X9c is available globally, including in regions like Malaysia and Singapore. In Malaysia, the 12GB/256GB variant is priced at MYR 1,500 (about $345), while the 12GB/512GB model goes for MYR 1,700. Singaporean consumers can pre-order the device with shipping set for the upcoming week, priced at SGD 450 (around $340) for the 12GB/256GB variant.
