After HTC teased the HTC Desire 12 launch earlier this week, the company has now officially launched the HTC Desire 12 and HTC Desire 12+ in India. Both the smartphones were originally launched in March earlier this year.

Both devices come with the trendy full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio and durable acrylic glass back surface. The Desire 12 features a 5.5-inch HD+ IPS display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 SoC, coupled with PowerVR Rogue GE8100 GPU, 3GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot, which enables users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity up to 2TB.

The smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel BSI camera sensor on the back with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture, accompanied by an LED flash. On the front side, there’s a 5-megapixel BSI sensor with a f/2.4 aperture.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. Running on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with HTC Sense UI on top, the phone is powered by a 2,730mAh battery.

On the other hand, the HTC Desire 12+ comes with a 6-inch HD+ IPS display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage.

Unlike the Desire 12, this one comes with a dual rear camera setup on the back, which includes a 13-megapixel BSI primary sensor and a secondary 2-megapixel sensor. The setup has a f/2.2 aperture and enables features such as Bokeh mode, Face detection, and Panorama mode. On the front side, there’s an 8-megapixel BSI camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS + GLONASS. This one runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box with HTC Sense custom interface and is powered by a 2,965mAh battery.

The HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ will be available in two color options in India — Cool Black and Warm Silver. While the Desire 12 is priced at Rs. 15,800 (approximately $236), the Desire 12+ costs Rs. 19,790 (approximately $296). Both smartphones will be available for pre-order through HTC eStore from tomorrow, June 7th and will be available through online and offline from June 11th.

If you have been waiting for HTC to bring its full-screen 18:9 display to the mid-range category, then you should check out the newly announced HTC Desire 12 and HTC Desire 12+.

HTC Desire 12

The Desire 12 has a 5.5” display with a 1440 x 720 resolution. It still has bezels though, so there is no elaborate design on the front. But that is not to say the Desire 12 isn’t a beauty. It is.

HTC says it has renewed its liquid surface design, giving it a new streamlined look. It is still reflective but looks really nice in all the available colors. Plus having a purple variant similar to Samsung’s Lilac Purple for the S9/S9+ is a smart move.

The Desire 12 is powered by MediaTek’s MT6739 processor with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of expandable storage. A 13MP f/2.2 camera sits at the top left corner on the back, and a 5MP f/2.4 sensor sits in front for selfies.

HTC specifically doesn’t state the version of Android the phone is running but says that it may change after a software update. So there is a chance it runs Nougat but will receive Android 8.0 Oreo soon.

There is a 2730mAh battery with no fast charging (5V/1A), a micro-USB port, Bluetooth 4.2, dual band WiFi, a 3.5mm audio jack, and dual SIM slots.

HTC Desire 12+

The Desire 12+ is bigger with its 6” display but keeps the resolution at 1440 x 720. It shares the same design as the Desire 12 but with the addition of a fingerprint scanner on its back and an extra rear camera sensor.

The Snapdragon 450 is the chipset of choice here. There is also 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which can be expanded by up to an additional 2TB.

On the back is a 13MP + 2MP combo. There is PDAF, face detection, panorama mode, and bokeh mode. The 8MP front camera also has a beauty mode and even has its own LED flash.

Unlike the Desire 12, HTC proudly announces that the Desire 12+ runs Android 8.0 with HTC Sense. Surprisingly, the spec sheet shows the Desire 12+ only supports 2.4GHz WiFi. It also has dual SIM support (nano only), Bluetooth 4.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Powering the large display is a 2965mAh battery which charges slightly faster at 5V/1.5A via a micro-USB port.

The Desire 12+ comes in the same colors as the Desire 12. However, pricing and availability have not been disclosed.

As it turns out, the company is indeed working on the HTC Desire 12. A retail box of the phone has been leaked, which also confirms the phone’s key specifications.

According to the leaked retail box, the HTC Desire 12 will come with a 5.5-inch display having screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. It will be powered by 64-bit quad-core chipset from MediaTek along with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

The phone will also have a microSD card slot which will enable users to further expand the phone’s storage capacity. As of the camera department, the phone will feature a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera that can shoot 1080p Full-HD videos. There will a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for taking selfies and video calling.

The dual SIM phone will be powered by a 2,730mAh battery. As of now, there is no information available regarding the software but we hope it runs Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box. Connectivity options on the device include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS.

While most manufacturers have come out with devices featuring 18:9 aspect ratio display, HTC is yet to embrace this new trend. However, HTC is all set to jump the full-screen bandwagon with HTC U12 — the company’s upcoming flagship phone. This phone, which is codenamed HTC Breeze, will bring the full-screen display feature to the company’s entry-level and mid-range lineup.

Since the phone’s retail box has already been leaked, it’s only a matter of time we see images of the HTC Desire 12’s renders or the actual device. As of now, there is no information available about the phone’s pricing and availability.

HTC is set to join the 18:9 full-screen trend with the HTC U12 but apart from the flagship U12, the company is also working on a budget model with such design. According to popular tipster Evan Blass earlier this month, HTC will launch a new entry-level model soon which goes by the codename Breeze. The tipster had revealed the specs of the device back then but didn’t mention the moniker it would adopt at launch. Evan Blass has now revealed in a new tweet that the entry-level device will be called HTC Desire 12.

The most notable feature of the HTC Breeze is the full-screen design it brings to entry-level models. The device is said to pack a 5.5-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is also expected to pack a MediaTek System-on-Chip backed by 2GB of RAM while there will be 16GB of internal storage.

On the camera aspect, the Desire 12 is expected to pack a 13MP rear camera while for selfies, there will be a 5MP shooter. Keeping the lights up will be a 2730mAh battery among other features.
