When the HTC U11 Life was released last month, it came in two variants – an Android One version for Europe and the rest of the world that ran Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, and a Sense version for the US that ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

HTC promised it would release an Android 8.0 Oreo update for the  US variant within 30 days and it has kept to its promise. The Taiwanese manufacturer began pushing out the Android Oreo OTA to the unlocked version of the phone today.

The T-Mobile version has not received the update yet and there is no news as to when it will do so. This shouldn’t come as a surprise as carriers are usually known to delay updates.

The HTC U11 Life is a mid-ranger that packs a 5.2” FHD display, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. There is a Snapdragon 630 chip and a 2600mAh battery under the plastic body.

A new HTC device with model number X2-HT has been seen on Geekbench. The HTC X2-HT is shown to run Android 8.0 Oreo, have 4GB of RAM, and be powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor leading some to believe it is a successor to the HTC U Play. Rather, it is actually the HTC X2 launched in Japan today or better still the HTC U11 Life for Japan.

Geekbench has been reported to wrongly list the Snapdragon 630 as the Snapdragon 660 and that error was confirmed when the U11 Life launched with the former rather than the latter.

The HTC X2 is the Android One edition of the phone that is why it runs pure Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. However it differs from the U11 Life in terms of RAM and storage. It packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage instead of 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM.

The rest of the specs are the same. It has a 5.2” FHD display, a front mounted fingerprint scanner, and 16MP cameras on both sides. There is a MicroSD card slot for expansion, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual band Wi-Fi.

The HTC X2 packs a non-removable 2600mAh battery and has an IP67 rating. There is no 3.5m audio jack but a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter should be included in the box.

The HTC X2 will be available for purchase from SoftBank-owned network operator, Y! Mobile. It will come in Sapphire Blue and Ice White and will go on sale on December 7.

Design and Display

The HTC U11 Life’s Android One and Sense versions are almost identical in appearance. It bears resemblance with the U11 flagship phone. The IP67 rated phone sports a metal unibody design and comes in colors like Sapphire Blue and Brilliant Black. It measures 149.09 x 72.9 x 8.1mm and it weighs 142 grams.

Like the U-series phones from the company, the U11 Life also features the Liquid Surface design on its rear. The back panel also features a fingerprint reader. The squeezable frame on the HTC U11 Life can be used for quickly launching favorite apps and contacts. It has a 5.2-inch Super LCD screen that produces full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Performance, Connectivity and Cameras

The Snapdragon 630 chipset is present under the hood of the HTC U11 Life. It includes a 2,600mAh battery. This model features Amazon Alexa as well as Google Assistant and it is fitted with Cat. 9 LTE modem that offers download speeds of 450Mbps. HTC U11 Plus (or U11+) and U11 Life are speculated to debut tomorrow. A Swiss publication called Blick Digital has outed a hands-on video of both the smartphones. Since the hands-on video could not be embedded, we have included some snapshots from the video.

The HTC U11+ is rumored to arrive with a 6-inch display that will carry support for 2,880 x 1,440 pixels. The screen will be delivering an aspect ratio of 18:9. The side bezels of the phone appear thin, but it does not seem to offer a high screen-to-body ratio like the Samsung Galaxy S8 or LG V30.

The back panel of the HTC U11+ has a fingerprint scanner that is placed below the rear camera. The rear panel is a bit transparent as the innards of the phone are visible. This could be the translucent color variant of the HTC U11+ that the Taiwanese company had teased yesterday. The U11+ is expected to arrive in other color options like black and silver.

Since the U11+ is a larger version of the HTC U11 flagship phone that was launched in May this year, it will be arriving with a squeezable frame for using the Edge Sense for carrying out different tasks. The HTC U11 Life will be announced on Thursday, 2nd of November. While there is little or nothing we don’t know about the specs, a new image and pricing have surfaced online thanks to Roland Quandt’s Winfutre.de.

The U11 Life is said to be available in two color variants (in Germany) – Sapphire Blue and Ice White. The blue variant has been online for weeks now but picture of a new Brilliant Black color variant (looks more like green though).

The design is the same – glass on both sides with “Android One” written on the back. So if blue or white doesn’t do it for you, there is black (or green) to choose from.

If you have been waiting for the HTC U11 Life, Roland Quandt says it will cost 369 Euros in Europe. This is less than the original 400 Euro mark reported but still a bit high. For 369 Euros, you get 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, IP68 certification, 16MP F/2.0 cameras on both sides, and a pair of USonic earphones.

He claims that the smartphone will be unveiled alongside the HTC U11 Plus flagship phone on Nov. 2.

The Taiwanese company is selling the HTC U11 with 6 GB of RAM in specific regions like the U.S. In other markets, the U11 is available with 4 GB of RAM. For cameras, the U11 Life will have a 16MP shooter on both sides. Details about the aperture and pixel size were not provided. The HTC U11 Life packs a 2600mAh battery which is pretty small. But considering the fact that the HTC U Play which shares nearly the same specs as mentioned above save for the processor, has a 2500mAh battery, we are not surprised.

There is no information available on the pricing of the HTC U11 Life. In the U.S., it is expected to be exclusively available for purchase through T-Mobile. The unlocked edition of the smartphone will be available for buying through HTC.com.
