However, the company has continued to struggle to grab a share of the highly competitive smartphone market. The flagship HTC U12+ was an headline-grabbing model but that isn’t enough to guarantee a successful outing. The company also launched the U12 Life to cater to the mid-range segment. Although the performance has not been spectacular, HTC has added some juice to the device with the addition of 6GB RAM+128GB storage variant of the midrange device.

The HTC u12 Life was only made available in 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version when it was first launched at IFA 2018. The new variant is announced in partnership with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET). The launch is aiming to ramp up its smartphone sales during the year-end shopping season and also to target the mid-range market. The new 6GB RAM variant will go on sale for NT$11,900 (US$387). The price is no doubt, interesting but that won’t guarantee the device sell so many units. At present, the market competition continues to intensify and most OEMs have similar models with attractive features and even prices.

As a reminder, HTC U12 Life is equipped with a notch-less 6-inch LTPS LCD display with an FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC. The device is preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo that is customized with the company’s Sense interface. The smartphone is also fueled by 3,600mAh battery. It comes with a 16MP+5MP dual camera setup at the rear and a 13MP selfie shooter. Other features such as dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, NFC, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and GPS are also onboard the device.

Just a few days before the unveiling, the phone has been benchmarked on Geekbench.

The benchmark result lists the device as the “HTC HTC 2Q6E1”. It is powered by the Snapdragon 636 processor and packs 4GB of RAM. You might be wondering why we say its the Snapdragon 636 and not “sdm660” as shown in the image below. That’s because Geekbench incorrectly identifies the Snapdragon 636 as the Snapdragon 660.

To confirm this is indeed the Snapdragon 636 and not the Snapdragon 660, we decided to compare the scores to that of true Snapdragon 660 (Nokia 7 Plus, Mi 6X) and Snapdragon 636 phones (Nokia X6, Redmi Note 5 Pro). Not only does the HTC U12 Life have similar benchmark scores as the Nokia X6 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, the base frequency (1.6GHz.) is also the same. These are proofs that the chipset is the Snapdragon 636 and not Snapdragon 660.

[envira-gallery id=”208478″]

The HTC U11 Life that was released last year launched with a Snapdragon 630 processor, so the Snapdragon 636 is still a significant upgrade. The processor uses custom Kryo 360 cores and not Cortex A53 cores like the SDM63o. And according to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 636 offers up to a 40% increase in performance over the Snapdragon 630.

Apart from a Snapdragon 636 processor, the HTC U12 Life is also expected to come with a 6-inch 18:9 display, dual rear cameras, and a single front-facing camera. We also expect it to have Edge Sense for calling up Google Assistant or Alexa.

Based on previous rumors, the phone we think HTC may unveil on that day is the HTC U12 Life, a successor to the mid-range U11 Life from last year. The phone is expected to come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636, a 6-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 1080 x 2160 resolution. It will also have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

For optics, the HTC U12 Life will have 12MP + 5MP dual rear cameras and a single 13MP front-facing camera with its own selfie flash. The new 18:9 aspect ratio will mean the fingerprint scanner will find a new home and the back of the phone is the most likely position.

One of the upcoming smartphones from the Taiwanese firm is the HTC U12 Life mid-range phone. The specifications of the smartphone have already leaked at the end of the previous month. Now, a German tech publication has shared the design of the U12 Life through a sketch. The leak reveals that the U12 Life’s rear design will be similar to the original Google Pixel smartphone and its front side is fitted with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen.

Through the below image, it can be seen that the upper and lower bezels of the U12 Life have been reduced which suggests that it is equipped with a tall aspect ratio display. The right edge of the phone features a volume rocker and a power key. The dual-tone rear design of the U12 Life is reminiscent of the original Google Pixel.

The top portion of the back panel of the Google Pixel line is of glass and the remaining part made out of metal. As far as U12 Life is concerned, it is difficult to guess on the materials of the two parts. The two portions may sport different colors, patterns or materials. As it can be seen in the above the image, the top part features a vertical dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner whereas the other portion has the logo of the company.

The U12+ was codenamed as “Imagine” and it is speculated that the forthcoming U12 Life has a codename of “Imagine Life.” The smartphone is expected to arrive with an IPS LCD screen of 6 inches. It is expected to carry support for Full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The Snapdragon 636 SoC accompanied by 4 GB of RAM may power the smartphone. It is likely to feature an internal storage of 64 GB and a microSD card slot.

For photography, the HTC U12 Life could be equipped with 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup and front-facing camera of 13-megapixel. The handset may receive power from a 3,600mAh battery. There is no information available on the launch date of the smartphone. The U12 Life is likely to be priced at around $350.

The expected device is said to be tailored along the line of the U11 life which was launched last year drawing some inspiration from the flagship U11.

The key specifications of the model have now made an appearance online. According to the leak, the U12 Life will pack a 6-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160p and an 18:9 aspect ratio. This is very much different from the 5.2-inch 16:9 screen the U11 Life feature. However, the display configuration is similar to that of the flagship U12.

Other revealed specs of the device includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset backed by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s a microSD slot to further expand the storage.
Full specification details of the U12+ have already been leaked online but there has been no info on the U12 Life until today. Popular leaker @evleaks has revealed a key detail about the phone. While this is not a major spec info, it is still very important as it can influence your decision to purchase the U12 Life.

If you thought that HTC was sidestepping the notch trend…think again. Apparently midrange U12 Life gets its notch on.

— Evan Blass (@evleaks) March 26, 2018

According to Evan Blass, the HTC U12 Life will have a notch in its display. True, notched displays is the trend this year but we never expected HTC to be one to join the bandwagon. Fellow Taiwanese company, ASUS shamelessly joined the trend with the new Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5z announced last month at MWC.

It is not known what the HTC U12 Life’s notch will look like. Most manufacturers have copied that of the iPhone X with varying widths but we have seen a few copy the circular design of the Essential PH-1. So there is a chance HTC may go with the latter’s design.

Fresh details have surfaced which reveal the HTC U12+ will be the only flagship from the Taiwanese company this year. According to an unnamed insider source, there will be no HTC U12 (a smaller version of the HTC U12+). But HTC will release a U12 Life which will be for the mid-range category with an affordable price tag.

The HTC U12 is expected to launch in May and will be competitively priced, said the source. It will have similar specs to the Galaxy S9+ but a price tag similar to that of the Galaxy S9.

A full specifications leak of the U12+ was released a couple of weeks ago. The phone will have a 5.99” QHD+ display, a Snapdragon 845 processor, and up to 6GB of RAM. It will also come with up to 256GB of built-in storage.

HTC will slap dual cameras on the rear of the phone in a 12MP + 16MP configuration, and an 8MP selfie camera. The U12+ will have an IP68 rating, face unlock, a 3420mAh battery, and run Android 8.0 with Sense 10 on top. It will also have Project Treble support and launch in single and dual SIM variants.
