However, a new protective cover for the smartphone has just been launched, which enables it to connect to the latest networking standard.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-460837 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/73928f54-bee9-4859-94aa-9d9634bf8739.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="520" height="924" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/73928f54-bee9-4859-94aa-9d9634bf8739.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/73928f54-bee9-4859-94aa-9d9634bf8739-169x300.jpg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/73928f54-bee9-4859-94aa-9d9634bf8739-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/73928f54-bee9-4859-94aa-9d9634bf8739-236x420.jpg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px" /></p>
<p>The new protective cover is the &#8220;5G Connectivity Case&#8221; that was made by Soyealink. This case features an embedded an eSIM chipset and a 5G modem in the smartphone cover itself. In other words, this converts the 4G smartphone into a 5G enabled model. Furthermore, the design of the case in terms of its weight and thickness is similar to most other protective cases in the market, so it does not add any unwanted bulk to the Huawei P50 Pro.</p>
<p>It weighs just 52 grams and a thickness of around 3.2mm. The case arrives in a light gray color option and is made from leather, which gives it a premium feel. Back when the P50 Pro was first announced, we had reported on <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjlu7-Fn-b3AhXXTGwGHfQRAT0QtwJ6BAgkEAE&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gizmochina.com%2F2022%2F03%2F25%2Fhuawei-case-could-allow-p50-4g-series-to-support-5g-live-image-appears%2F&amp;usg=AOvVaw1GyzbNfDQEv5qt_mF2QlbC" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">rumors</a> that the Chinese tech giant or possibly third party accessories maker are working for a case that enables the smartphone to connect to 5G networking. Now, such a product is finally available in the Chinese market.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-460838 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="1219" height="918" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735.png 1219w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-300x226.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-768x578.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-1024x771.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-696x524.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-1068x804.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/16e85f08-87e3-4dbe-a3eb-6ce887cc8735-558x420.png 558w" sizes="(max-width: 1219px) 100vw, 1219px" /></p>
<p>Once the 5G Connectivity Case is put on, the main SIM card of the smartphone and the eSIM network signal for the cover are merged into a single card and displayed as the sole smartphone signal bar. As of right now, it is not known when the case will be available for purchase, but it is priced at 799 Yuan or roughly around 118 US Dollars.</p>

Its flagship P50 series, for example, comes with flagship chips but with disabled/removed 5G modems. But with a new hack, this shortcoming could soon be worked around.</p>
<p>An innovative mobile phone case that will enable its 4G mobile phones to support 5G is set to launch soon, likely by Huawei itself. With an image posted on Weibo, blogger @changan (via <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/609/738.htm">IT Home</a>) posted an image of the thing, which although is quite unclear, does give an idea of what to expect.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-451167 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/huawei-5g-case.jpg?x44794" alt="huawei 5g case" width="640" height="936" /></p>
<p>The case seems to have a SIM Card slot on the inside along with some other components, one of which may even be a 5G modem. The caption for the post poses a question &#8212; &#8220;will it be made by a third party for Huawei?&#8221; &#8212; so it&#8217;s unclear if the case in the picture is a first-party unit from Huawei.</p>
<p>Other than the 5G components, the orange-colored case looks quite ordinary with a soft silicone finish. The 5G bits don&#8217;t look to be contributing to the thickness of the piece, meaning it will likely feel just like a normal cover when slapped onto the back of a phone.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also unclear what phone the silicon 5G case has been designed for but many suspect it to be for the Huawei P50 series.</p>
<p>While definitely very innovative, this isn&#8217;t the first time a company has retrofitted its phone with 5G capabilities. Motorola with a mod a couple of years ago brought 5G support to the Moto Z4, although it was rather hefty. Huawei&#8217;s implementation isn&#8217;t clear as of yet but the Moto 5G mod came with a 5G antenna from Qualcomm.</p>
