With this, the latest software from the company is now also available on smartphones.</p>
<p>Huawei is now set to push the new HarmonyOS 2 operating system to its smartphones, tablets, and several other devices, starting with the Huawei Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-p40">P40 series</a>, Mate X2, Nova 8 series, MatePad Pro, and more.</p>
<p>HarmonyOS comes pre-installed with a few applications and there&#8217;s also support for third-party apps but there are many such apps on the app store. The company is now offering HarmonyOS Zone in the Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/app-store">App Store</a> which lists applications that are already supported for the new operating system.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-393952 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone.jpeg?x10805" alt="Huawei App Market HarmonyOS Zone" width="1078" height="1442" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone.jpeg 1078w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-224x300.jpeg 224w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-768x1027.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-766x1024.jpeg 766w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-696x931.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-1068x1429.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-App-Market-HarmonyOS-Zone-314x420.jpeg 314w" sizes="(max-width: 1078px) 100vw, 1078px" /></p>
<p>With HarmonyOS Zone in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-app-marketplace">Huawei App Marketplace</a>, it becomes easier for the users of the operating system to find and install compatible apps. Users can search for &#8220;HarmonyOS&#8221; or &#8220;HongMeng&#8221; in the App Marketplace to find the dedicated zone. The apps, which are made for HarmonyOS are tagged with &#8220;HMOS&#8221; in the corner of the icon.</p>
<p>The Chinese giant is working hard to add new features to the in-house operating system and make it easier for third-party developers to make apps for the platform. At the time of unveiling this new OS, Huawei said that it plans to update 100 devices and may take until H1 2022 to complete the process.</p>
<p>The company has a plan to have more than 300 million devices running the HarmonyOS (or <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hongmeng-os">HongMeng OS</a> as it is called in China) by the end of this year. It will be interesting to see if Huawei manages to establish its new software as an alternative to Android.</p>
<p>Huawei has donated all of the core structures of HarmonyOS to the “Open Atom Open Source Foundation.” This would enable interested manufacturers to get the HarmonyOS system codes and develop products as per their requirements. At the moment, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/04/huawei-brings-500k-developers-harmonyos-ecosystem/">there are more than 500,000 developers</a> that are working with HarmonyOS and the company is expecting more to join soon.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/tencent">Tencent</a> has confirmed that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> has removed its (Tencent’s) online game catalog from Huawei’s app store due to the failure of both companies to reach an agreement on revenue sharing.</p>
<p>A statement by Tencent reads; “Due to the failure of Huawei’s mobile game platform to renew its contract with our Mobile Game Promotion Project Agreement as scheduled, relevant products of Tencent Games were suddenly removed from the shelves early this morning.”<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Nubia-Gaming-Phone-1.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-170994" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Nubia-Gaming-Phone-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Nubia Gaming Phone" width="690" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Nubia-Gaming-Phone-1.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Nubia-Gaming-Phone-1-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>Although Xiaomi is referred to as China&#8217;s Apple, in the real sense, Huawei is the company that is the equivalent of Apple in China in terms of revenue and market share. Huawei presently controls 41.4% share of the China mobile phone market and 14.9% of the global market, according to data from market research firms IDC and Canalys.</p>
<div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a title="Xiaomi’s Merach Nano Pro Massage Gun launched on Indiegogo" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/12/xiaomi-merach-nano-pro-massage-gun-indiegogo/" rel="bookmark">Xiaomi’s Merach Nano Pro Massage Gun launched on Indiegogo</a></strong></div></div>
<p>Although Tencent sells some of the top-ranked online games worldwide, its partnership with Huawei is an important one as it leverages the hundreds of millions of Huawei phones that is in circulation in China, Tencent&#8217;s biggest market.</p>
<p>Huawei and Tencent did not immediately respond to a request by <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-games-huawei-tencent-holdings/tencent-games-removed-from-huawei-app-store-over-revenue-dispute-source-idUSKBN29626O" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Reuters</a> seeking comment. However, a source familiar with the matter hinted that the games were removed because the companies could not agree on a revenue-sharing deal for the app store sales. Huawei had reportedly insisted on receiving a 50% cut, a term Tencent disagrees with.</p>
<p>Tencent hints that they are actively communicating and negotiating with Huawei&#8217;s mobile game platform in a bid to reach a resolution as soon as possible. The brand also extended an apology to all users for the inconvenience.</p>
<p>Apart from Tencent, there is mounting resistance from game developers to Huawei’s revenue demands. Last year, Shanghai-based developer Mihoyo, decided not to place its hit game “Genshin Impact” on Huawei’s app store due to failure to reach an agreement with the commission structure for sales.</p>
<p>This dispute is reminiscent of the imbroglio<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/29/apple-finally-terminates-epic-games-developer-account/"> between Apple and Epic Games</a> which saw Apple remove Fortnite and other Epic Games&#8217; titles from the App store due to disagreement over revenue collection.</p>
