As of recent, Huawei Senior Product Manager, Mr. Wang Yonggang, who is in charge of the development of the Huawei flagship P series lineup of smartphones, broke out the great news that the Huawei P series flagships have exceeded 100 million sales globally(including in China) in total since it launched the Huawei Ascend P1 almost 10 years ago. Through a blog post in the Huawei Xinsheng online forum (an online community for Huawei users in China), he shared the many milestones that Huawei has achieved in the smartphone market throughout the 10 years since Huawei launched its first flagship, the Huawei Ascend P1, back in January 2012.

Huawei first started development for the Huawei Ascend P1 as early as in the summer of 2011, where Huawei wanted to put out its first competitive flagship smartphone to the market to make a name for itself in the industry. Mr. Wang Yonggang recalled that Huawei called in their research team from Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an to fly over to Shenzhen to help develop the Huawei Ascend P1 together with their Shenzhen team. 

After many months of market research and prototypes, they finally launched the Huawei Ascend P1 in January 2012 with a 4.3 AMOLED display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8MP BSI rear camera in a lightweight and 7.6mm unibody, at a flagship price of RMB 2,999(471 USD) at the time. 

Although the Huawei Ascend P1 was not a bestseller by any metrics, it was Huawei’s first step to transition away from a B2B (Business to Business) company to a B2C(Business to Consumer) company with its first-ever flagship smartphone for the Chinese public.

Huawei’s next flagship, the Huawei Ascend P2, however, was not released in China and was instead released outside of China in markets such as the European and Japanese markets in 2013. This was due in part that the Huawei Ascend P2 was equipped with 4G which China did not have a proper rollout till 2014, and therefore Huawei decided to release it in the global market instead. The Huawei Ascend P2 was also the first Huawei flagship to be equipped with Huawei’s in-house Kirin SOC.

The next milestone for Huawei was the Huawei Ascend P6 with its show-stopping ID design, as the P6 was the world’s thinnest smartphone at its release, with a thickness of only 6.18mm. Looking back, it was the Huawei flagship that defined the premium design language of Huawei P series flagships for many years to come. 

The next big leap was the Huawei P9 with its dual rear camera setup. The Huawei P9 was Huawei’s first phone to collaborate with famous camera imaging company Leica, and the P9’s rear camera was equipped with a normal color lens as well as a monochrome lens. The phone then captures the image with both lenses and uses computational software to provide the best-looking photo for the user.

The next generational leap in photography was with the Huawei P20 Pro with its industry-breaking triple camera setup consisting of a wide lens, a monochrome lens, and a telephoto lens for versatile photography. The Huawei P20 Pro also came with the popular colourway Twilight, which solidified Huawei’s flagship design philosophy in the premium market.

The Huawei P30 series adopted a new type of RYYB colored lens for better images, while the P40 series provided marginal upgrades, such as 10x optical zoom for the series.

The Huawei P50 series was quite a confusing flagship lineup until recently. But Huawei launched the P50 Pocket this week, the company’s first-ever clamshell flagship foldable, which proved that Huawei is bringing forward innovation to its P series flagships once again.

Huawei’s flagship Ascend P7 brings premium credentials

Design

For 2014, slim is definitely in. Showcasing premium credentials, the Huawei Ascend P7 shares the design language of its predecessor and boasts a depth of just 6.5mm. At 124g, this lightweight flagship features Gorilla Glass 3 front and rear, a double-glass unibody and aluminum sides for a classy combination. Light and superslim, Huawei’s flagship checks many of the right boxes.

The Neo M1 boasts similar premium appeal with an aluminum body that measures just 5.99mm thick, making it the slimmest of the four phones despite a weight of 148g. Wear-resistant third generation Gorilla Glass protects the screen with the manufacturer claiming a 40% reduction in visible scratches.

Joining the catwalk is the svelte iNew V3 with a super slim profile that’s just 6.55mm and weighs just 128g. The V3 takes a leaf out of Sony’s OmniBalance design book however, unlike the metal and glass that defines the Xperia models, the V3 utilizes a plastic shell to minimize weight.

As Zopo’s flagship phone, the ZP1000 measures 143.9mm x 72mm x 7.2mm with a weight of 150g, making it the least slim and heaviest of the phones – however, size and weight are relative and the ZP1000 still conforms to an ultraslim form factor.

The Neo M1 offers solid features at the mid-price bracket

 Screen

The defining feature of today’s phones is arguably the screen and Full HD is considered mainstream for bona fide flagship status.

While all four phones provide a 5.0” display, the Huawei Ascend P7 offers 1080P (1080 x 1920) at a mouth-watering pixel density of 455ppi that exceeds even the Galaxy S5’s 432ppi. Viewing angles are wide with good color reproduction and an excellent contrast ratio. Coupled with top notch image quality and decent sunlight legibility , the Ascend P7 offers a superb viewing experience.

In comparison, the iNew V3, Neo M1 and ZP1000 all bring 720p resolution (1280 x 720) and a still-respectable 326ppi to the table, although the displays look somewhat lackluster compared to full HD goodness.

Raw Power

All of the mobile phones bring plenty of horsepower to the party.

The Ascend P7 utilizes Huawei’s custom HiSilicon Kirin 910T chipset under the hood, pushing four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A9 cores. This compares favorably with the MediaTek MT6582 chipset (1.3GHz quad-core) from Q3 2013 powering the Neo M1 and iNew V3. The Zopo ZP1000 features a MediaTek MT6592 (1.7GHz Cortex-A7 Octa Core) under the hood to ensure apps, games and multimedia shine.

All four devices offer dedicated GPUs (either the ARM Mali-400 MP2 or ARM Mali-450 MP4) for enhanced graphics performance however only the Ascend P7 offers 2GB RAM instead of 1GB. Power users will definitely appreciate the extra memory of the Ascend P7 at reducing lag during app switching and heavier multitasking scenarios.

With Sony-inspired aesthetics, the iNew v3 is quite the looker.

Operating System

The Ascend P7 comes with Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat pre-installed with the EmotionUI v2.3 overlay. The homebrewed interface design eschews the modern design of vanilla Kit Kat for a flat, more utilitarian appearance; the app drawer is completely gone however the overall responsiveness and customizability of Android remains.

In comparison, the other three handsets run the older Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. The twist to the tale is the dual OS offering of Neo M1 that pairs Android with Windows Phone 8.1. Presently, the official site states that the latter is “not available yet” and “will be finished in a few months” so Android 4.2 is the only flavor available.

Camera

The increasingly competitive nature of smartphones means that manufacturers have upped their game significantly and all four handsets are a case in point.

The Huawei Ascend P7 features a 13MP shooter supported by single LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, 360 degree panorama and HDR. Photos appear crisp and sharp thanks to the built-in camera module and the class-leading 8MP front camera should keep selfie fans happy especially with its onboard selfie mode. There’s also a “groufie” panoramic mode for those who enjoy group selfies. Both cameras are capable of capturing 1080p HD video at 30fps.

Neo’s M1 offering also incorporates a 13MP camera with LED flash utilizing a Sony Exmor RS series sensor with a 5MP front camera in tow. Following suit, the iNew V3 offers a 13MP rear camera as well as a multi angle mode where you can take shots around a target which you can move around during editing. The ZOPO ZP1000 brings a 14MP rear camera capable of 1080p HD video at 30fps along with a 5MP front facing camera.

The Neo M1 and Zopo ZP1000 both come with a non-replacable 2000mAh Lithium battery. This compares to the iNew V3 has the smallest capacity at 1830mAh although it is replacable; some early adopters on the iNew bandwagon have noted that it’s “a struggle to get a day out of the battery”.

Storage

The built-in internal storage capacity is par for the course with all four phones. Multimedia fans will be pleased to hear that the Huawei Ascend P7, Zopo ZP1000 and iNew V3 all come with 16GB onboard ROM out of the box, while the Neo M1 offers 8GB as standard for your storage needs.

It’s worth noting that the Zopo ZP1000 has non-expandable storage, you’re limited to the 16GB, while the Ascend P7, Neo M1 and iNew V3 all provide support for external cards up to 32GB.

Depending on your own requirements and the size of your multimedia collection, this may impact your purchase decision.

Price

The Ascend P7 comes with an RRP of $620 (based on €449) making it the most expensive of the four devices however you do get true flagship features for that price. With an expected release date of June across 31 markets, the P7 will be available in black, white and pink.

Undercutting the P7 by some margin, the Neo M1 has a presale price of just $179.99 at the official online store, or 999 RMB. An intro price of just $99.99 based on a special 50% discount for the first 500 customers predictably saw the phone being out of stock almost immediately.

The iNew v3 matches the M1 with a $179.90 price tag quoted on iNew’s official site and is available to buy now in black, white and gold.

Last but not least, the Zopo ZP1000 is priced marginally higher at $259.99 at the online Zopo Store (for that you also get a free gift package) and the handset available in either blue or gold.

Early Verdict

From a purely tech-oriented view, Huawei Ascend P7 brings an impressive spec sheet and a superslim profile that trumps the other pretenders to the throne; however, within the premium price bracket, it faces serious competition from the usual suspects including Samsung, Sony, HTC and Apple.

At around a third of the Ascend P7’s price, the other three Chinese phones are comparatively affordable with solid, though similar, feature sets for tremendous bang for your buck. They still vie and jockey for position in an increasingly crowded mid-range market space.

With only marginal product differentiation, most users will be content with any of the four offerings. Individual usage cases and personal preferences will naturally apply in determining purchase decisions. However if you want a Chinese phone that scores well in almost everything, you could do worse than the Ascend P7 although be prepared to pay a king’s ransom for it.

As Huawei’s annual flagship mobile phone, Huawei Ascend P7 attracts high attention. Huawei announced the phone in Paris France in the evening of 7^th May, Beijing time. Huawei Ascend P7 inherited the P6’s ultrathin body, and did various improvements based on the P6. Let’s find out whether the phone is worthy expectation.

Huawei Ascend P7 Specifications:

Huawei Ascend P7 adopts self-produced Hisilicon Kirin 910T 1.8GHz quad core processor, 1.8GHz basic frequency, 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, supporting storage extension up to 64GB. 5.0 inch 1080P resolution IPS screen, using incell technology, covering 3^rd generation Corning glass on both side of the phone. 13mp proposition camera and 8mp preposition camera, while the main camera is the F2.0 aperture, Sony’s 4^th generation stack sensor. Based on Android 4.4.2 customized Emotion 2.3 operation system and 2500 mAh capacity battery, supporting TD-LTE, TD-SCDMA, GSM, FDD-LTE, WCDMA (Last two only supported while global roaming).

Huawei P7’s 8MP front camera

Huawei Ascend P7 used the same virtual button design as the P6, the virtual button can be hidden any time, and can be resumed by sliding up. There is only Huawei logo on the lower side of phone, which makes it laconically

The power button is in round metal style

Huawei P7’s buttons and card slots are all located on the right, they are all in metal material as the frame is. There are volume button, power button, memory card slot, Micro SIM card slot arranged from up to down. The power button is redesigned as round shaped and using spiral grain design.

The card slots needs to be opened by pin attached, both slots have presentations, upper slot is for SD memory card while lower is to use Micro SIM card..

The left side of the body is rather smooth

The left side keeps smooth and tidy, no buttons or card slots. They cancelled the earphone hole on the left bottom that was on P6, which has been moved to the top of the phone, no more ejector pin needed. Apparently this design looks more humanize.

 The bottom design is in arc-shape.

The bottom of the phone remains arc-shaped design, but more transit smooth in the corners, which makes it more comfortable to handle compared to the P6. You won’t feel the corner angles. And there is a USB prot and little microphone on the bottom.

 The earphone hole is designed on the top.

Different from the arc-shape design on the bottom, the top of the phone is original straight smooth design, and is in mental material. The earphone hole locates on the left, and there is assistant microphone used on video recording.

13MP rear camera

Let’s check the details on the back, upper left corner is the 13MP camera and single LED flashlight, the camera is Sony’s newest 4^th generation stack sensor, with F 2.0 aperture, no stand out of the lens and the whole back keeps smooth and can be put on the table horizontally.

 Location of the speaker

There is a strip shaped speaker on the down side of back, and some printed information of Network supporting and type.  In the actual usage, the speaker’s volume could be lowed down while put on the table, but the ringtone or music still can be heard clearly.

Conclusion: Totally, the Huawei Ascend P7 inherited the shape design of the P6, overturned the all metal body design and used the double Corning glass layered design, meanwhile, adding recombination texture on the back, making the whole perception of the P series with some fresh different appearances. It appears that Huawei is a company that is able to adopt the users’ opinion, for example , the criticized pin-operated earphone hole was cancelled, and its location was moved to the top of the body, the corners was more smooth, the power button was redesigned. Huawei P7 still keeps high process design level.

5 inch Full HD screen

The Huawei Ascend P7 equips 5 inch screen, possessing 1920×1080 high definition resolution, its PPI has reached 445, which is mainstream class. In order to have more beautiful looking, both sides of the body are coated with Corning 3^rd generation glass and the anti scratch ability has been raised 300%.

The 3^rd Generation Corning Glass is more crush and scratch resistance, makes better protection to the screen board.

Compared to the iPhone 5s, not only the P7’s screen size is larger, but with high definition resolution, Huawei P7’s PPI is larger than the iPhone 5s, as a result its display fineness is better and brings excellent visual impact.

From the display of texts, we can find that the Huawei P7 is more smooth in line and higher precision, while the iPhone 5s shows a bit fussy.

Display of the three-primary colours tends to be accurate and no obvious colour cast.

From the screen recopy, the Huawei P7’s display ability is in the mainstream, although it is not as fine as the 2K resolution screen, there is still obvious promotion compared to last generation product, and its performance is remarkable in the display brightness and color restore.

Huawei P7 has unique magazine lock screen interface, it has subscription of stars, motor, sports, fashion etc. The theme and wallpaper will be changed randomly after each unlock, the wallpaper is delicacy beautiful. Sweeping from bottom to upper, the shortcut menu can be displayed, which includes daily shortcut application such as music play control, calendar, calculator, flashlight and mirror.

The main interface is the known Huawei Emotion UI main interface, only secondary menu, no entirely flattening, looks fashional. The drop down list contains shortcut buttons, the brightness control, the button position can be customized and the theme can be changed anytime, there are near 10 built in theme, user can custom details including wallpaper, unlock style , text type etc.

For the Huawei P7 use virtual buttons, it inherits previous design of Huawei mobile phone, the navigation bar on the bottom can be hidden, and the hidden bar can be recalled by sweeping from bottom of the interface towards up.

Huawei P7 has button suspension function, the newest suspension buttons can be half-penetrated, moved, self-fading animation effects. The suspension button function can be launched in the pulled down shortcut menu list, or in system settings. The suspension button has functions including back, main page , multi windows, lock screen and memory clearance etc. The operation of suspension button can replace the function of navigation bar while hidden.

And now we just get the information from the Wall Street Journal as saying that Huawei is one of the electronic company based in China will enliven smartwatch market, the company plans to begin introducing the first smartwatch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 which will take place in Barcelona at the end of this February. Unfortunately, we did not get the information whether smart watches will be offered with affordable price or not.

Besides to smartwatches, Huawei will also introduce its new smartphones and tablet devices, we estimate that the tablet device is Huawei MediaPad X1 which has a 7 inch with FullHD display, whereas for the cell phone, Huawei will introduce Ascend P7 which is the successor of the Ascend P6 .

For additional information, at MWC 2014 Samsung will also introduce a new model of smart watches the Galaxy Gear 2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone.

Meanwhile, Apple, HTC, LG and ZTE will also be a major player as a manufacturer of smart watch they will release later this year, and the war begin.

Huawei is now rumored to released their new flagship smartphone, and now the leaked picture of those smartphone is appear in China, the phone has codename Huawei Sophia.

According to rumor, the upcoming smartphone will has model number Huawei Sophia-L07 and it’s phone wil laos has LTE connectivity. And now we have git the rear body of Huawei Shopia that show rear facing camera with LED flash light with Huawei logo.

The phone is look similar with Huawei Ascend P6 but the detail is very different, while the Huawei Shopia has using different material and has 4G logo in back bottom cover, the speaker is also has different orientation.

Huawei Shopia is the codename of Huawei Ascend P7 is expected with running  Android 4.4 KitKat, has dual-SIM support, 5 inch screen TFT Display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, coupled with 13 megapixel rear facing camera and 8 megapixel front facing camera, the phone is powered by 1.6GHz  Hisilicon V9R1 quad-core processor and  packs with LTE cat 4. and has 2,460 mAh battery capacity.

The phone is expected showing at Mobile World Congress 2014 in barcelona in the end of this month.

Besides having a beautiful design as well as the Huawei Ascend P6/P6S which is one of the thinnest Android phablet this time, Huawei Sophia is reportedly also capable of recording video with the best quality of support thanks to the 8 megapixel front camera and 13 megapixel rear camera that has autofocus and LED flash.
