<p><strong>Update:</strong> Huawei has officially denied the recent media reports of selling its consumer electronics business group. This would primary includes its rumors of selling its smartphone business. Rather, the company added that it will be raising its investment in its smartphone business and even build up its high end brands. Huawei is schedulaed to release its latest flagship handset models later this month.</p>

<p><strong>Original story continues…</strong></p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>has apparently been planning on spinning off its consumer electronics business unit. Rumors have been going around about the company making this major move, so here are all the details.</p>

<p>Based on new reports, the Chinese tech giant is supposedly considering splitting the consumer business group and even transferring some research and development of its mobile phone operations to its former subsidiary Honor. For those unaware, Huawei had to sell off its budget sub-brand since it was hit with various sanctions by the US government that hampered its smartphone operations. So now, it is rumored that it is planning on shifting more of its operations to Honor.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-1024x768.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" class="wp-image-520473" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/brand.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>However, the company&#8217;s consumer business is an integral part of its efforts sin the enterprise market. Thus, the rumor regarding the brand making a large scale spin off regarding its consumer business appears to be highly unlikely. At the moment, the revenue scale of Huawei&#8217;s consumer business has dropped significantly. But despite, the company has still maintained its lineup of notebooks, desktops, tablets, and more.</p>

<p>Although, some market experts believe that if Huawei does spin off its consumer business, it will affect its layout in fields such as health, display, and Metaverse as well as the development of its HarmonyOS and Euler platforms. Keep in mind that this is still just unconfirmed rumors, so take this news with a pinch of salt for now and stick around for more updates regarding this matter.</p>

The senior executive has stated that Huawei&#8217;s consumer business is expected to grow by over 20 percent in 2020, especially in China.</p>
<p>The statement was made in an interview with a Chinese news reporting agency. Yu Chengdong is confident about the growth of Huawei&#8217;s smartphone sales in the Chinese market, although the same cannot be said for the global market. The senior official believes that the numbers won&#8217;t be as high as 20 percent, due to the lack of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/gms/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">GMS</a> (Google Mobile Services).</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_301189" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-301189" style="width: 718px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-301189 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/hms.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei" width="718" height="351" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/hms.jpg 718w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/hms-300x147.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/hms-533x261.jpg 533w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/hms-696x340.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 718px) 100vw, 718px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-301189" class="wp-caption-text">Huawei Mobile Services</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>For those unaware, after the US Commerce Department blacklisted Huawei back in 2019, the company was banned from trading or partnering with US based companies. This led to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/20/huawei-banned-from-using-google-services-future-phones-to-feature-proprietary-os/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Huawei smartphones shipping without Google&#8217;s services</a>. The move was a clear strategy by the US to pressure the company and by its extension, China.</p>

<p>However, in response to this, Huawei made its very own mobile services ecosystem, which Yu Chengdong said &#8220;is now very good and selling well. The P40 series are all equipped with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/hms/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HMS</a> and are already being shipped. Due to the epidemic, some stores can&#8217;t open, but the second half will be better.&#8221; However, its viability outside of China is still under scrutiny.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_313630" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-313630" style="width: 912px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-313630 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b.png?x10805" alt="Kirin 820 5G featured" width="912" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b.png 912w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b-300x189.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b-768x485.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b-696x440.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Kirin-820-5G-featured-b-665x420.png 665w" sizes="(max-width: 912px) 100vw, 912px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-313630" class="wp-caption-text">HiSilicon Kirin 820 SoC</figcaption></figure></p>

<p style="text-align: justify">Huawei achieved a number of breakthroughs in 2016. It&#8217;s customized version of android, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/EMUI">EMUI</a> is now more refined and deeply integrated with the company&#8217;s Kirin processors. Their phones also have better camera performance, thanks in part to their collaboration with Leica on the Huawei P9 and the Huawei Mate 9 models. Both companies have founded a joint research lab called Max Berek Innovation Lab that will focus on development and innovation in areas relating to optical systems, imaging algorithms, and virtual and augmented realities.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">Their focus on artificial intelligence has also paid off as the Huawei Mate 9 will be the first phone to ship with Amazon&#8217;s AI assistant, Alexa pre-loaded.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">The Huawei P9 and Mate 9 are the manufacturer&#8217;s only phones to have surpassed 10 million sales even after  the latter suffered supply shortages due to the high demand. Their Honor sub-brand is not doing badly at all. The top of the line right now is the Honor Magic released towards the end of last year, and the dual-camera <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/honor-6x">Honor 6X</a> has received its US launch hoping to surpass the Honor 5X. The <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/honor-8">Honor 8</a> has also gotten positive reviews all over, standing as one of the major contenders to the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-3">OnePlus 3</a>.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify">In its bid to become recognized as a global brand, the company signed up top footballer, Lionel Messi as brand ambassador; and Hollywood stars, Henry Cavill and Scarlett Johansson as spokespeople for the Huawei P9.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">Huawei is currently ranked as the 5oth most valuable brand by BrandZ and is 72 on the Top 100 global brands by Interbrand.</p>
