Huawei Luxeed to Feature HarmonyOS 4 and Lidar

As mentioned above, Huawei is continuing its work in the car industry. Their work focuses mainly on HarmonyOS 4. Many car makers are either using or planning to use this new operating system introduced by the company. But that’s not all Huawei plans for the electric vehicle market. It’s known that they have been working on making their own electric vehicle for some time.

Recently, Huawei’s Executive Director and CEO of Smart Car Solutions, Yu Chengdong, officially announced that the first purely electric sedan under Huawei umbrella is set to meet the public this quarter. Now, bloggers discovered spy shots of this vehicle. The Huawei Luxeed has large headlights and taillights that look similar. The taillights are smaller than the headlights, but they still stand out. This gives the car a unique look.

You can take a look at the pictures below and form your own opinion about the vehicle. While this striking design is largely thanks to Huawei, they didn’t work on it alone. The eagerly awaited electric car is a joint effort between Huawei and Chery. Sadly, we don’t know all the details, but according to official announcements, this car will be the first to have the HarmonyOS 4.

The new HarmonyOS 4 makes the car’s screen system better. You can easily connect different devices in the car. The Huawei Digital Energy Technology Co Ltd (translated from 华为数字能源技术有限公司) has just recently been established by the smartphone maker. This new firm will have its business scope include research and development of new technology related to electric vehicles and their related facilities.

With this firm, the Chinese tech giant will work on setting up research and development for new energy technologies, energy recovery systems, electromechanical coupling system development, and even new energy facilities for the sale of electric vehicles among other operations, as per an ITHome report. Notably, this firm is 100 percent controlled by Huawei Technologies and has a registered capital of 3 billion Yuan (roughly 469 US Dollars).

The company has established this firm to focus on achieving carbon neutrality. For those unaware, various major tech based companies have been working to reduce their carbon emissions for environmental reasons, as the world becomes more sensitive towards the effects of carbon footprints of major firms on the world. Furthermore, the newly established company is also another step towards the company’s plan on expanding in the automobile market.

Huawei has showcased its interest in smart electric vehicles in particular, with the brand even launching various hardware and software for other car makers and consumers as well. Now, the company is apparently working on developing facilities related to electric vehicles and even establishing research and development to offer newer technology in the market.

Huawei has over the years established itself as an active player in the car manufacturing industry with several products and solutions aimed at making driving easy and fun. But last month, a report did emerge that the company was planning to make a full entry into the electric vehicles market. The move is said to be part of efforts to cushion the effect of the US ban which has resulted in the near-collapse of Huawei’s smartphone business.

The report may have some truth it after all. A couple of patents relating to EVs have been spotted. Specifically, two patents filed by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. titled “An Electric Drive System, Powertrain, and Electric Vehicle”. The patents were both filed on October 21, 2021, and have the application numbers CN112436747A and CN112436779A.

The patent description published with the model bearing the application number CN112436747A shows that this application provides an electric drive system, a powertrain, and an electric vehicle, which involves the technical field of electronic circuits. Among them, the electric drive system includes a bus, an on-board charger, a three-level inverter circuit, and a controller.

The second patent with application number CN112436779A is also for an electric drive system, a powertrain, and an electric vehicle, which involves the field of power electronics technology. The electric drive system is connected to the power battery pack and includes a bus bar, a three-level inverter circuit, a DC-DC conversion circuit, and a controller. The controller is used to control the first conversion circuit and the second conversion circuit. The electric drive system reduces the volume and cost.

These are technical terms that may not make much sense to someone not familiar with EV systems but the bottom line is that Huawei may likely be working on its own EV. Do bear in mind, though, that the EV may not arrive any time soon.
