Today, Huawei has announced a surprise launch event in China for a new entry-level smartphone from the company as well as a new affordable wireless earphones solution that will be held tomorrow June 6th 7:30 PM Beijing Time (UTC +8) / 5 PM India Time (UTC +5:30) / 7:30 AM New York Time (UTC -4).

From the company’s official Weibo Chinese social media account, it reveals that the launch event tomorrow will be announcing 2 new products from the brand, the Huawei Enjoy 50, an entry-level smartphone and the Huawei Freebuds 5i, a pair of affordable wireless earphones from the brand.

The launch event will be held online and live-streamed across Huawei official online channels across the My Huawei App, Huawei Vmall, and of course the brand’s official TikTok account. As for the specs and details of the Huawei Enjoy 50 and Huawei Freebuds 5i, Huawei did not reveal any teasers regarding both devices launching tomorrow but fortunately, several leaks of the Huawei Enjoy 50 have surfaced online.

Chinese technology news site, ITHome, reports that the Huawei Enjoy 50 will be sporting one of HiSilicon’s entry-level Kirin SoCs, which is rumoured to be the Kirin 720 SoC. It will sport an enormous 6.75-inch Waterdrop Notch IPS LCD and a humongous 6000 mAh battery with support for 22.5W fast charging via the USB-C charging port. 

The rear of the Huawei Enjoy 50 will be a triple camera setup housed on the top left with Huawei branding on the bottom left. The device is confirmed to feature’s the brand’s signature HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system onboard. The colour options of the Huawei Enjoy 50 smartphone will include 3 colourways: White, Blue and Black.

Huawei recently expanded the Enjoy series with the introduction of the Enjoy Max and Enjoy 9 Plus in China. The launch event was an opportunity for the company to talk about how successful the series has been. Huawei disclosed that it has sold over 45 million Enjoy smartphones worldwide. That is within the last 3 years since the lineup was introduced.

Huawei first introduced the Enjoy series in 2015 when it launched the Enjoy 5 and Enjoy 5s. The models stood out over the year because of their impressive design and affordable pricing. The series was an instant hit among very budget-conscious buyers that were looking for a device in the 1,000 yuan to 1,999 yuan price range (around $145 to $289). In 2016, the Huawei Enjoy 6 and Enjoy 6s were introduced to build on the successes of its predecessors. Indeed, the success of the 2016 models led to the launch of three models in 2017 – the Enjoy 7, 7S, and 7 Plus. Earlier this year, Huawei had launched the Enjoy 8, Enjoy 8e, and Enjoy 8 Plus and just when we thought that was all, the Enjoy 9 Plus and Enjoy Max models were ushered in.

The whole purpose of flooding the market with new models is mainly to rack up more sales. The two new models will no doubt help Huawei sell a few more million units of the series before the year’s end.

Huawei may not be a big player in the low-end market, but the company does have a few decent options in the segment. Today, the company has added a new model in its Enjoy series, called the Huawei Enjoy 6.

The phone comes with a body that looks like metal, thanks to the choice of metallic colors, however, the back is actually made out of polycarbonate. There are a variety of color options available, including gold, gray, white, pink and blue. As for the specs, the Huawei Enjoy 6 comes with the modest MT6750 octa-core chip clocked at 1.5GHz along with 3GB RAM and 16GB of expandable (up to 128GB) storage. There’s a 5-inch 720p AMOLED display on board. At the back, the phone features 83-degree wide angle 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture while up front there is a 5MP f/2.0 shooter. As for the software, the phone comes with Android Marshmallow based EMUI 4.1 OS.

Like the Redmi series, the Enjoy 6 boasts a very large battery. It features a 4100mAh battery which is reportedly good enough for 2.6 days of moderate usage, 2 days of heavy usage and up to 6 days with super power saving feature. You can also reverse charge using the large battery.

Other features of the phone include DIRAC sound, box integrated sound chamber, knuckle sense (if you remember, this feature has been available on Huawei’s smartphones for a while) and fingerprint ID.

The Huawei Enjoy 6 will go on sale on November 1 for 1299 Yuan ($192). Reservations have already started.
