Huawei has announced two new audio products for the Indian market. The two products are the Huawei Freelace Bluetooth Earphones and Huawei Mini Speaker. Both products already launched in China months ago, though the latter is sold as the Nova Mini Bluetooth Speaker.

Huawei Freelace Bluetooth Headset

The Freelace Bluetooth Headset originally launched alongside the Huawei P30 series. It has a 9.2mm titanium-plated drivers. It connects via Bluetooth 5.0 but if you own a Huawei or Honor device, you can instantly connect it to your phone using Huawei’s HiPair Technology. All you have to do is connect it to your phone via the USB-port or a USB-Connector and the phone will recognize it. You can also charge the earphones this way when connected to your phone.

Huawei says just 5 minutes of charge will provide up to 4 hours of listening time. The Freelace Bluetooth Headset has a battery life of 18 hours. The earbuds also have what is called Hall Magnetic Sensors in the earbuds which will allow you to pause or resume playback when you attach them together. This also works for calls too. There is also Wind-Noise reduction which reduces ambient noise. The earphones also has an IPX5-rating.

Unlike in China where it is available in Graphite Black, Amber Sunrise, Emerald Green, and Moonlight Silver, the Freelace is only available in Black in India. It is priced at INR 4,999 (~$70) on Flipkart. Do check our reviews of the headset here and here.

Huawei Mini Speaker

The Huawei Mini Speaker is a 3W speaker with a cylindrical design. It has a passive radiator hidden at the bottom. It can be paired with another unit for a 360° stereo experience. It has an IPX4 rating and connects via Bluetooth 4.2. Its 660mAh battery will provide 4 hours of listening time and 3 hours of calls. It will shut disconnect itself after 5 minutes of no playback and automatically shut down after 30 minutes.

It is available in Emerald Green and Graphite Black and priced at INR 1999 (~$28) on Flipkart.

In the launch event of Huawei P30 series last months, there are a bulk of accessories released, and Huawei FreeLace Wireless Earphones were one of them. They are so attractive, and the reason is that they are so matched with Huawei P30 series. After a week of experience, we have a deeper understanding of the Huawei FreeLace. Now, let’s check out the review of the latest wireless earphones.

Design

Huawei FreeLace offers four colors for costumers to choose, such as Graphite Black, Amber Sunrise, Emerald Green and Moonlight Silver, and I got the Graphite Black variant to experience.

Huawei FreeLace Wireless Earphones adopt neck hanging design.

There are two durable control panels made of anodized aluminum alloy on both sides. On the non-detachable side, there is a Logo of ‘HUAWEI’ on it and no buttons.

The power key, multi-function key and volume keys are placed on the other side which adopts detachable design. A Type-C connector is hiding in the control panel.

Long press the multi-function key for waking up the phone’s smart assistant or reject a call, one tap for play/pause music and answer/hang up the phone, double tap for next track, triple tap for previous track. It’s easy to use.

Usage

Huawei FreeLace Wireless Earphones connect to smartphones through Bluetooth. But Huawei develops a new technology called HUAWEI HiPair technology. The headphones have built-in Type-C plug with HUAWEI HiPair technology, once plugged in the phone, the Huawei FreeLace can be paired at once. It only takes a few seconds, which is very convenient. But the technology just supports some of Huawei smartphones coming with EMUI9.1 and above version.

Performance

Huawei FreeLace adopts canalphones design, which is comfortable to wear. They don’t fall out when shaking violently, so it’s suitable for those who like doing sports.

The material of Huawei FreeLace is nickel-titanium alloy and liquid silicon, which can be easily coiled up to take it out.

The Huawei FreeLace comes with built-in Hall magnetic sensor which can detect whether the earphones are in use. When the earphones attach together, the Huawei FreeLace should disconnect with phone. When you detach them, it will reconnect the phone. I do love this design, which can play a role in saving electricity.

Huawei FreeLace Wireless Earphones ships with 9.2mm dynamic driver unit that enlarges the sound field, and the ultra-thin TPU diaphragm that has strong bass. Huawei FreeLace comes with Dual-channel Wind Noise Reduction and Bluetooth noise cancelling algorithm, which makes you have clearer calls.

The sound quality of Huawei FreeLace Wireless Earphones is outstanding at this price. In the high pitch, it performs balanced, and in the low pitch, it has strong power to shake. The Huawei FreeLace can give you stereo surround sound experience that gets you completely immersed in music.

The Huawei FreeLace is fueled by 120mAh battery, which can play the music for 18 hours on full charge, or have phone calls for 13 hours. What’s more, the earphones can stand by for 12 days keeping Bluetooth connection status.

In addition, you can plug in phones, tablets or PC, which support reverse charging, to charge the earphones by Type-C.

In this usage time, I always charge the FreeLace by Huawei P30 Pro. It can play for 4 hours with 5 minutes charging. It’s an innovative idea to solve the problem of Bluetooth earphones battery life.

There are many Bluetooth earphones in the market focusing on design, sound quality or the price performance. Huawei FreeLace carries self-developed HUAWEI HiPair technology showing their features, and makes them to be the best match of Huawei P30 series smartphone.

Huawei finally launched the long-anticipated P30 and P30 Pro today in Paris. The flagship phones made their entry alongside a number of interesting products including wearables. The Huawei FreeLace Bluetooth headset was launched as well as the Freebud Lite which looks very much like the Apple AirPods 2.

The FreeLace headset has a designed that would be most appealing to sportspersons and those who like listening to music while exercising. It comes with a collar (over-the-shoulder design) which would prevent it from falling off easily while running. There is also a magnetic clasp in each ear which helps keep the earbuds together. Apart from organising the earbuds, the magnetic clasp also functions during calls. It allows users to receive calls by just detaching the pair and placing them on your ears. After the call, you just need to remove the buds from your ears and attach the two and the call will be ended. The same feature will also start or stop music depending on whether you’re placing them in your ears or removing them. The cables are anti-tangling specs which won’t tangle easily.

The Huawei FeeLace bud comes with a USB-C port which offers fast data transfer and fast charging of the gadget.   Just 5 minutes of charge can deliver up to 4 hours of audio playback. A full single charge can deliver up to 18 hours of continuous playback. This is slightly lower than the 24 hours which the iTeknic BH001 headset claims to deliver at 70% volume. We don’t know if the FreeLace earbuds will go up the entirely 18 hours at full blast or moderate volume levels. Apart from the fast wired connection, the headset can also be paired with other gadgets wirelessly using Bluetooth.

As for the audio quality, the earbuds are powerful, driven by the 9.2mm titanium-plated drivers, which brings solid audio for anyone that simply wants a pair of workout earbuds. The design delivers wind noise reduction capability which cuts out audible audio infractions. There is an in-line remote for various controls, including activation of Google Assistant. The Huawei FreeLace earbuds is available in four cool color options: Black, Amber Sunrise, Emerald Green, and Moonlight Silver. No word yet on when it will go on sale.

Huawei Freebuds Lite

Another earbud launched is the Huawei Freebuds Lite would definitely be out to take on Apple’s AirPods 2. The Freebuds Lite has a true wireless (TWS) design which means there is no wire that’ll disturb your fun. The pair of true wireless buds offer 12 hours of battery life which is quite vague. We can’t say if the 12 hours will be without charging or if you’ll need to recharge intermittently. It is unlike that the gadget will be capable of 12 hours of audio playback. Perhaps, it can withstand 12 hours on standby only. The Freebuds also come with IPX4 rating which means they are water resistant and not necessarily waterproof. That means you can get all sweaty while using the earbuds without any worry. As for the price, the Freebuds Lite will be sold for €119 (about £100).
