<p>For quite some time, there has been an ongoing battle between iOS and Android in the realm of mobile operating systems, and Huawei joined this competition at some point. Despite HarmonyOS being available for a while, it hasn&#8217;t gained much popularity beyond China and doesn&#8217;t seem likely to do so. The main reason for this lack of traction is the absence of many popular apps on the AppGallery. This implies that users who switch from Android or iOS may need to forgo even the simplest applications.</p>

<p>While it&#8217;s not impossible to install these apps, the technicalities involved may not be of much interest to the average user. However, it appears that this issue is gradually becoming a thing of the past as McDonald&#8217;s has begun developing a native app for Huawei HarmonyOS. Here are the details&#8230;.</p>

<h2><strong>McDonald&#8217;s Joins HarmonyOS Ecosystem, Starts Developing Native App</strong></h2>

<p>A Chinese blogger has claimed that McDonald&#8217;s has started developing a native Huawei HarmonyOS app. The blogger shared photos of a signing ceremony and launch event between Huawei and McDonald&#8217;s China. However, Huawei has not yet officially confirmed the news. If you believe there&#8217;s nothing remarkable about the McDonald&#8217;s app, think again. McDonald&#8217;s is a US-based restaurant and it is very important that it made such a decision despite the US pressure.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HarmonyOS appGallery" class="wp-image-588413" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/huawei-harmonyos-mcdonalds-app.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>As we mentioned above, HarmonyOS faces a notable challenge beyond China due to the lack of commonly used everyday applications. This could be just the beginning, and we might witness global companies stepping in to contribute to HarmonyOS. Their involvement could boost its competitiveness by expanding the array of applications available on the platform. In September, the companies CEO Richard Yu announced that HarmonyOS NEXT, the next version of HarmonyOS, is ready for release. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HarmonyOS Next" class="wp-image-584422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HarmonyOS-Next.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>He said that native HarmonyOS apps will bring a historic leap forward for the mobile app ecosystem, with smoother, smarter, and more secure experiences. Huawei has said that companies and developers from a variety of industries, including finance, travel, and social media, have already joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem and are developing native HarmonyOS apps. However, this is expected to increase further</p>

<p>Ever since launching HarmonyOS, the company has been actively pushing new updates with features to improve the platform. Currently in version 2, a <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/596/284.htm">new report now reveals</a> information about the official launch of the upcoming HarmonyOS 3.0 later this year.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-416485 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="1200" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-HarmonyOS-3-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>According to a new report, Huawei&#8217;s next-generation <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-3">HarmonyOS 3.0</a> is expected to officially get released in July this year. However, there&#8217;s a possibility that the official announcement of this new software could be made a bit early.</p>
<p>It is being claimed that the announcement could happen sometime by the end of the second quarter of this year, i.e. by June 2022. The Chinese giant is expected to host an event during the Spring festival but it&#8217;s not yet known what could be announced.</p>
<p>The Huawei HarmonyOS 3.0 Developer Preview <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/10/22/huawei-announces-harmonyos-3-developer-preview/">was released</a> by the company a couple of months back, in October 2021, at the Huawei Developer Conference 2021. It continues to innovate around three core areas &#8212; System Architecture, Super Terminal, and One-time development of multi-terminal deployment.</p>
<p>As per the reports, given that the HarmonyOS is a new-age <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/operating-system">operating system</a>, its system architecture can be deployed flexibly, allowing smart devices with different memories to communicate in the same language. In the latest version, there are deployment automation tools and <span class="accentTextColor">developers can select the required components based on hardware to</span> complete the operating system assembly.</p>
<p>Huawei has announced that the <span class="accentTextColor">HarmonyOS 3 Beta is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2022, i.e. by March 2021,</span> which will provide developers with more complete system capabilities and development tools.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-394469 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei HarmonyOS Logo Featured" width="4000" height="2250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured.jpg 4000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Huawei-HarmonyOS-Logo-Featured-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, Cocos Creator is an all in one development tool that enables developers to create games for all major platforms, like the iOS, Android, Facebook Instant Games, WeChat Mini Games, HTML5, and desktop as well. The latest version is the Cocos Creator 3.2, which was officially launched at an event in Shanghai. This makes it the world&#8217;s first game engine that supports the Huawei HarmonyOS system, as per <em><a href="https://www.huaweicentral.com/cocos-creator-becomes-the-first-game-engine-to-support-harmonyos-operating-system-platform/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HuaweiCentral</a></em>.</p>
<p>The system could also enable the launch of heavy games of different categories like 2D or 3D titles. Furthermore, the Cocos Creator 3.2 version supports the one click packing of games into the HarmonyOS applications. Notably, it even supports the use of the PhysX capabilities of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/bytedance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ByteDance</a> platform in ByteDance mini games and more. Cocos Dashboard also provides a unified downloader and launch portal for the Cocos Creator and Cocos Creator 3D engines.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_395651" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-395651" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-395651 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/cocos-creation-harmonyOS-1-1024x576-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-395651" class="wp-caption-text">Via HuaweiCentral</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>In simpler terms, game developers can now complete the project in the Cocos Creator within the HarmonyOS platform. So, we can soon expect ports of existing games or even the launch of possibly exclusive flagship HarmonyOS mobile games to make their way into the Chinese tech giant&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/appgallery/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppGallery</a>.</p>

Standing by its word, it has already rolled out a Beta Version of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/22/huaweis-now-pushing-the-harmonyos-2-0-beta-for-the-p30-and-mate-30-pro-5g/">HarmonyOS 2.0 to some devices</a>. Now, the company has said that the stable Android alternative OS is finally coming to flagship devices.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_372585" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-372585" style="width: 889px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372585" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021.jpg?x44794" alt="HarmonyOS" width="889" height="511" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021.jpg 889w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021-300x172.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021-768x441.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021-696x400.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/HarmonyOS-Flagships-April-2021-731x420.jpg 731w" sizes="(max-width: 889px) 100vw, 889px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-372585" class="wp-caption-text">HarmonyOS rollout</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Starting from April 2021, Huawei flagship devices will start getting the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos">HarmonyOS</a> upgrade. This finally will transition the company&#8217;s smartphones into an ecosystem of its own.</p>
<p>At the launch, the company also <a href="https://youtu.be/DHJrbGquKWs?t=1809">said</a> that the newbie <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x2/">HUAWEI Mate X2</a> will be among the first to get it. This means that the device will run <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui-11">EMUI 11.0</a> (Based on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10">Android 10</a>) till then.</p>
<p>Assuming that the HUAWEI P50 series launches in a couple of months, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/12/huawei-p50-series-will-come-to-global-markets-in-harmonyos-and-android-versions/">should also get it</a> alongside the 2021 foldable first. HUAWEI brought the HarmonyOS ecosystem as a way to evade the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-us-ban">tussle with the US</a> and the subsequent ban on Google Mobile Services(<a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/GMS">GMS</a>).</p>
<p>This new Operating System is also considered as an <span style="font-weight: 400">infrastructure to get deep into the roots of smart IoT devices including Smart TVs. T</span>he company Last year upped the ante by bringing the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/harmonyos-2">HarmonyOS 2.0</a>.</p>
<p>As mentioned above, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/26/huawei-smartphones-to-start-getting-harmonyos-2-0-beta-update-as-early-as-january-2021/">extended</a> the support for IoT devices initially. Following this, it <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/16/huawei-releases-harmonyos-2-0-for-smartphones-developer-beta-version/">released the SDK and Developer Toolkit</a> for Smartphones in December 2020 and Beta versions from Jan&#8217;21.</p>
<p>Now, it has finally found the groove for the Flagships, and hence, expect the stable versions to roll out before H1 2021 ends. We don&#8217;t have an exact list of devices that will be getting the update yet. However, it is likely to arrive on the Huawei P, Mate, and Nova devices gradually.</p>
<p>Not just the HarmonyOS, Huawei is working hard to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/18/huawei-revamps-app-gallery-interface/">improve the App Gallery market</a> as well. As of 2020, it had up to 500 million monthly active users worldwide and is expanding further.</p>
