According to an Economic Times report, the Chinese tech giant’s India CEO, David Li, has asked the Indian government to have an “open policy” to welcome global telecom based firms. The executive stated that “I believe India should have a more open policy and should also welcome all the global players to contribute in this journey. This global collaboration will not only give a faster 5G deployment, more cost effective, faster roll-out and higher efficiency, and also will bring more user cases and good experience to make this 5G journey more proactive.”

As of right now, the telecom equipment maker has already setup 4G networks for Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea, two telecom service providers that operate in India. But despite its presence in the region, the company’s equipment is being slowly replaced by other rival vendors as the country moves towards 5G networking standards. But while 5G trials are already under way, Huawei and ZTE have been left out.

Thus, the Huawei India CEO said that “We also have a very huge incumbent network. Network is more like an asset to society as well as the responsibility and also moving forward I believe, we have a deep understanding of Indians towards challenges in terms of digitization and digital transformation. So, we definitely can play a very important role and we can contribute a lot to India. In this regard, we are seeking a level playing field for the Indian market.”

For those unaware, telecom operators like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea are currently testing 5G trials in India with their equipment suppliers like Nokia and Ericsson. The government is seeking to begin commercial 5G roll out by the second quarter of next year.

At the moment, the Chinese tech giant is expected to soon start taking pre orders for its new wearable in India. As per the brand’s official Twitter handle, the pre orders for the band 6 went live on 6th July 2021. The pre orders would even offer customers a Free gift as well, although, it has yet to go live as of right now. So there might be a slight delay in the company’s plans.

On the other hand, Huawei also confirmed some details through an Amazon listing spotted on the e retailer platform. The Band 6 is expected to go on sale through Amazon India soon and will be available in India for a price of 4,490 INR (roughly 60 US Dollars) in India. The band will be available in four color variants, namely Graphite Black, Sakura Pink, Amber Sunrise and Forest Green. It is expected that the device will launch around mid July 2021.

The fitness tracker is expected to make its arrival in India by the middle of this month reports MySmartPrice, citing industry sources. The blog has also revealed the possible pricing of the wearable.

The Huawei Band 6 will be priced under ₹5000, likely ₹4,499 (~$60) or ₹4,999 (~$67). Both prices are higher than the RM219 (~$53) selling price of the band in Malaysia. That should not be surprising considering the import tax in India is high. It has also been revealed that the fitness tracker will be available in Amber Sunrise, Forest Green, Graphite Black, and Sakura Pink.

Huawei ships the band 6 with a 1.47-inch FullView Color AMOLED touch display with a 194 x 368 resolution. It has a single button on the right side of the frame and comes with UV-treated silicone straps.

The Huawei Band 6 has support for 24/7 heart rate monitoring, all-day blood oxygen level measurement, sleep monitoring, and stress monitoring. There is also support for menstrual cycle tracking.

The fitness tracker has support for 96 workout modes, boasts a 2-week battery life, and is compatible with Android and iOS devices. It also has music playback support and app alerts.

But, it seems that Huawei will not be included in this list.

Previously, we had reported on the Chinese telecommunications equipment maker might qualify for the “trusted” vendors list earlier this week. This news had arrived from a government official, who believed that Huawei and ZTE might meet the eligibility criteria for the list. However, a new report from ET states otherwise as highly places sources close to the matter stated that the company is unlikely to be given approval to supply its 5G gear to telecom operators in the region.

These sources believe that the brand would likely not be included in the “trusted” list due to security concerns. For those unaware, Huawei has faced various accusations across the globe regarding its alleged ties with the Chinese government. Furthermore, the recent military clashes in the Indo-Chinese border also worsened the political tensions between India and China. This further prompted the Indian government to create a “trusted source” list to tighten its security regulations, especially in the case of telecommunications.

Thus, while it seemed like the Chinese vendor could’ve been a part of India’s 5G trials, this change in policy might not allow the company’s gear to be used by local vendors like Airtel, VI, and others. Meanwhile, networking equipment from Nokia and Ericsson would likely be eligible for the “trusted” list. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available.

According to a TelecomNews report, the Chinese tech giant is willing to bring 5G equipment manufacturing to India, alongside another Indian company. For those unaware, Huawei is a major telecom equipment maker, and one of the leaders in 5G networking. Thus, the company’s official even asked the Indian government to provide a “level playing field.”

As per Huawei India CEO, David Li, “We are now very much open and willing to partner with a local company. We are looking for a local partner and for commercial reasons, we don’t want to disclose any details. We can bring our software or hardware modules and enable a (local) partner to manufacture equipment.” Furthermore, the senior executive also asked the Indian government to clear the uncertainty regarding Huawei’s participation in the 5G trials.

Li has called on the Indian government to clear the uncertainty regarding the company’s participation in the region, asking the government to consider its “clean” record of the last 20 years in the country. He further added that “It is uncertain now… The government wants to address security concerns, but that should be based on facts and global standards. We hope the Indian government will give us a level playing field to participate in the (5G) trials.”

It has contributed to the global shortage of semiconductors stalling the work of many production plants and significantly affecting growth forecasts. The decision by the US government to block the use of Huawei‘s advanced 5G technology in critical areas also affected Huawei’s standing in several European countries who also banned the company from participating in certain critical contracts.

In addition, India had been seen in many quarters to have unfairly targeted Chinese companies with the ban of hundreds of apps mainly from China. However, Huawei has now publicly reaffirmed its confidence that the Indian government does not have any negative attitude towards the company as it continues to make its contributions towards boosting local capacity via the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. Huawei’s vice president in charge of the Asia-Pacific region, Jay Chen, disclosed this during the Mobile World Congress 2021, held virtually due mainly to the coronavirus pandemic.

Huawei is indeed pursuing investment in expanding local capacity to meet rising network demands across the Indian subcontinent and shed reliance on imports. This fundamentally keys into the overall plans by the government in encouraging local production across all segments of the economy.

But the views of Huawei may be a positive outlook that may be at variance with the reality on the ground amidst rising tensions and potential flashpoints in the relationship between the Indian and Chinese governments.

There had been both covert and overt moves by the Indian government to shut out foreign firms from participating in the 5G rollout contracts in the country and Huawei may not be left out from those restrictions.

The company insists that it had no plans to exit the Indian market and would continue to pursue investments in this direction, and hopes the government will take correct decisions for the development of the telecoms industry. Plans are underway to commence 5G trials and it is hoped they go smoothly according to plans.

In recent weeks, the trade dispute between the US and China have risen again, despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic affecting both nations. The former had often accused Huawei Technologies of being a front for the Chinese government and alleged espionage, which the latter and the consumer electronics vendor denied on numerous occasions. Now, Huawei and more of its affiliates based out of the US have been added to the Entity List, where they face a trade ban.

Editor’s Pick: LG Stylo 6 stylus phone launched with 6.8-inch display, 13MP triple cameras and 18W fast charge

For those unaware, the Entity List by the US Commerce Department is essentially a blacklist that bans companies or organizations found in the list to interact with US based companies. In other words, cutting off trade, technology, collaboration, and more. According to the US, “Huawei is an untrustworthy vendor and a tool of the Chinese Communist Party, beholden to its orders.”

Thus, even Huawei Technologies India Private Limited has been added to the list. The US State Department stated that they have “engaged for more than a year to share what we know about Huawei and other untrustworthy vendors with allies and partners around the world.” So by banning the Chinese group, the country is effectively cutting off any “loopholes” that Huawei was using to exploit US technology and threaten national security.

He has been replaced by David Li in India, who was the deputy chief executive officer of the company.

Jay Chen worked in several roles in the Indian market for Huawei, before he was promoted to become the CEO of the company’s India operations in the year 2015. On the other hand, David Li joined the Chinese giant in 2002 and has experience working in the India market.

He was serving as CEO of Huawei Cambodia before returning to India to take on his new role. He was also responsible for leading the Network Solutions Sales team as a Director for the South-east Asia Region.

In his new role, David will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Huawei Telecommunications India’s strategy, directions and operations in the country. He will also ensure the company’s commitment as a strategic and reliable ICT partner in accelerating the digital visions of India.

The leadership change for Huawei India comes shortly after India tightened rules around foreign direct investment (FDI) from some border countries, which experts believe are aimed at restricting Chinese investments in the country.

However, Huawei has been granted permission to participate in the commercial 5G deployment in India.
This is a major relief for Huawei given that it is facing several issues in the western market, especially in the USA where the company has been effective banned over cyber-snooping allegations which Huawei and China have repeatedly denied.

Huawei India’s CEO jay Chen is reported to have disclosed to ET that the company was working on solutions to apply its learnings and experience from China’s situation to help fight the disease. The company is looking to deploy new technology such as remote temperature monitoring which could help contain the spread of COVID-19. He also disclosed that the company is ready to deploy 5G+ thermal imaging which was one of the measures used in China to contain the spread of coronavirus infection. The technology is capable of monitoring the temperature of a moving object accurately and in real-time. It also would issue alert to any abnormal reading and eliminates the need to make contact with the person.

The tech giant is basically proposing the use of 5G technology to power teleconferencing which could aid medical experts to treat patients even when they are not physically present. Also, 5G remote imaging diagnosis platforms, 5G medical robots to help care for quarantined patients are some other ways the high-speed internet 5G offers could be used.

Unfortunately, India is yet to commence 5G field trials as the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) was expected to begin the tests within this month. The DoT had already met with telcos and their gear vendor partners to discuss use cases and their preparedness. The 21-day nationwide lockdown has definitely affected the plans as telcos focus on ensuring they sustain the delivery of voice and data connectivity to users.

The Mates Xs by Huawei is one of a kind folding smartphone.
As the Huawei India official Twitter handle teases, the Mate Xs feature a quad-camera setup, which has become common these days. The cameras on this phone are placed vertically on the elongate bump which also houses the volume rockers and the power key with an integrated fingerprint sensor. The camera sensors on this foldable include a 40MP primary unit with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP telephoto camera (up to 30x digital zoom) with f/2.4 aperture as well as OIS, a 16MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a Huawei made TOF (Time-of-Flight) sensor.
The Watch GT Active was originally announced alongside the Huawei P30 series as a “sibling” to the Watch GT Classic Edition that launched with the Mate 20 series last year.

The smartwatch has a 1.39-inch 454 x 454 AMOLED screen enclosed in a 46mm case. It has a “double chipset architecture” and runs Huawei’s Lite OS. There is Huawei’s TruSeen 3.0 heart rate monitoring for real-time measurement, a triathlon mode, TruSleep 2.0 for intelligent sleep monitoring, and support for GPS, GLONASS, and GALILEO.

The major selling point of the Huawei Watch GT Active is its promised 14-day battery life thanks to its low power consumption system. There are a bunch of other features too including a scientific coach for real-time training while running.

The Watch GT Active works with Android and iOS devices and is priced at INR 15,990, much cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active priced at INR 19,990. It comes in green and orange color variants will be sold exclusively by Flipkart where it is already available for purchase.
