The MatePad T 10 has only an Accerelometer sensor while the T 10s has Accelerometer, Ambient light, and proximity sensors. The next major difference is the speakers inside, although both have stereo speakers with a mic, only the MatePad T 10s is tuned by Harmon Kardon.

Other than this, both the tablets feature similar specs like Kirin 710A Octa-core chipset, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, microSD card storage expansion up to 512GB, 5MP rear and 2MP selfie camera, 5,100mAh battery, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and run EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10 OS.

Despite the screen difference, both the tablets have the same aluminum alloy body, Deep sea Blue color, measure 240x159x7.9mm, and weigh 450 grams.

Although its own products are limited in Japan, the company is looking to launch two new Huawei Smartwatches in the country next month.

A report from Nikkei says two new Smartwatches will be Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and the Huawei Watch Fit. In fact, the company has already launched the Watch GT 2 in Japan back in November. The report adds that two versions of Huawei’s GT 2 Pro, and Watch Fit will retail for 30,000($285) and 13,800($131) Japanese Yen respectively.

In a conference, Huawei is quoted highlighting the seamless integration and ability of Watch GT 2 Pro. Apparently, he highlighted its ability to convert images from a Huawei phone to its wallpaper seamlessly.

Will Huawei retain its Smartwatch segment in Japan?

However, Huawei has only a handful of Smartphones in Japan to succeed in its 1+8+N strategy. Nikkei’s report says it had only 5% of the Smartphone share in Japan as of 2019 according to Euromonitor Intl. With the US restricting Huawei more in 2020, that hasn’t improved a lot. Also, it hasn’t launched many of its 5G outside of China after the USA ban let alone Japan.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei in talks with other manufacturers to use HMS and HarmonyOS: Guo Ping

In spite of all this, its Smartwatch market share has remained healthy at 15.6% as of Q2 2020 as per an IDC report. This could due to the value-for-money features they offer for the price. Hence, it might play the trick of launching new Smartwatches in a bid to maintain a healthy position second to Apple. That being said, it will be interesting to see how Japan welcomes the new Smartwatches considering Huawei’s products lack GMS(Google Mobile Services) as well.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro and Watch Fit Specifications

This likely occurred due to recent sanctions that the US has employed to restrict the Chinese tech giant’s supply chain, as per a Nikkei report.

Jeff Wang, Chairman of Huawei Japan, said that the rise in sourcing from the region arrived due to Japan’s “extremely important role in global supply chains.” At the moment, the company has had its relations with its suppliers strained and tested after the US further added trade restrictions on Huawei, to close any loopholes in the previous sanctions.

Wang refrained from mentioning the issues the company is facing with the US in the online conference. However, another executive stated that “We have procured from Japan since 2018, so I believe there will be no major impact.” This seems like a watered-down rhetoric in front of the actual gravity of the situation, as we had previously reported on Huawei currently being in a ‘Survival mode’.

The senior executive further stated the company has bought in roughly 1.1 trillion yen (roughly 10.3 billion US Dollars) worth of components already from Japanese companies, which is a significant rise from 721 billion yen from back in 2018. Huawei had first set up in Japan back in 2005 and is now heavily procuring components from the region, along with Taiwan and South Korea as well.

The company still retains its position as the number one phone maker in China in terms of market share. India is another market Huawei is targeting but Xiaomi controls a large share of the market. It has now emerged that Huawei has its eyes set on other markets. A report out of Japan indicates that Huawei ranks among the top 5 phone vendors in Japan.

The report by a Japan-based firm, BCN statistics, showed a number of Huawei models ranked among the top 5 highest-selling models in Japan. The ranking is based on statistical data collected by the firm of sales recorded on just a single day (June 16). The top sales as collated placed the iPhone 8 (64GB) as the first, second and third best-selling models on three different carriers (NTT Docomo, Softbank and au). The fourth spot is occupied by the Huawei P20 Lite, same as the fifth spot.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 comes in at the sixth position, followed by Sharp AQUOS S2 at number 7, Galaxy S4 at number 8, and Sharp AQUOS Sense at number 9. Huawei’s P10 Lite completes the top 10. This isn’t the overall monthly or yearly sales, as Huawei may not yet be on the top 5 when that is collated. But the data does show that Huawei is slowly but steadily gaining popularity in Japan.
