Huawei recently revealed that it had sold over 10 million units of the Mate 20 series models till date. With such sales pre-price cut, the Mate 20 sales may be revitalized even with the impending launch of the P30. The price cut spreads across the different models that make up the series. The Mate 20 series comprises the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20X. The Mate 20 (6GB+64GB) is now available for 3499 yuan ($521) while the Mate 20 Pro goes for 4899 yuan ($729) after the 500 yuan price slash. The Mate 20X (6GB+128GB) now retails for 4499 yuan ($670). The price cut across the models is likely going to be for a short period but we expect it to sustain the record-breaking sales.

It also announced that the Mate 20 series has broken the previous Mate-series and P-series sales record for the same time duration in Greater China.

While the numbers obviously suggest the popularity of the Mate 20 series in the region, the company also says that the devices in this smartphone series also continues to sell well in Western Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and other regions.

Making a statement regarding this milestone, Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business said on Weibo: “In four and a half months, Huawei’s Mate20 series shipments broke 10 million units! Thanks to the support, praise and recognition of global consumers, and the pertinence given by everyone. It is suggested that there will be more breakthroughs in 2019 and I look forward to sharing with you the joy of technological advancement !”

In December last year, the Chinese giant had announced that its global smartphone shipments exceeded the 200 million units mark, representing an increase of 66 times in eight years. At that time, the company had reported shipments of Mate 20 series at 5 million units. In January this year, the number increased to 7.5 million units.

In the year 2018, the company’s smartphones shipment crossed 206 million units and it was reported that Huawei’s consumer business revenue has reached $52 billion, which is the largest revenue of Huawei’s BG business.

Earlier, Huawei’s Consumer Business President He Gang had said that the company could be looking to ship around 230 million to 250 million units this year. However, he stressed that everything is dependent on the market conditions and ensuring steady progress with channels and supplier partners. The numbers show that the company is aiming to grow its mobile business by around 30 percent to 50 percent year-on-year.

The company is currently gearing up to launch its new flagship line — Huawei P30 series, which includes P30, P30 Pro, and P30 Lite, on 26th March at a launch event in Paris, France.

Red is one attractive colour closely associated with love and February 14 which is Valentine or Lover’s day is just by the corner. Thus, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the innovative Chinese tech firm Huawei is planning to throw in a red variant into the mix for the Mate 20 series. A poster released today via the company’s mobile phone official Weibo page announced that the Mate 20 series will get a “big move” on January 10. The poster didn’t leave us in doubt as to what the big move could be as it also contains a silhouette of the mobile phone surrounded by a pack of rose.

Before now, there have been speculations that the Mate 20 series will get a new color scheme and now we know the colour is red. This new variant will obviously be more appealing to the female folks which are a good thing, considering that most phone makers focus on configuration rather than attractive feminine color which is more appealing to women than benchmark capabilities. The Huawei P20 series had this at the fore and was a success with the female folks with its Aurora gradient. Huawei’s official data shows that the P20 series shipped more than 16 million units globally and nearly 8 million of those units were bought by females. This is perhaps, the reason for this addition to the Mate 20 series.

This isn’t the first time Huawei will be adding a red colour variant to its flagship’s colour variant, though. As a matter of fact, it all started with the delectable Huawei P9 which later got an Agate Red variant and after that, the Mate 9 series got the same treatment. At present, the Huawei Mate 20 series has five color variants namely, Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, Twilight, Pink Gold and Bright Black.

Recall that the Mate 20 series were first launched in London a couple of weeks back but is making its debut in Huawei’s home country. It has become sort of a tradition that DXOMark’s review of a flagship model’s camera is released about the same time the phone is announced. We’ve been wondering why the Mate 20 series have deviated from that practice until now. Huawei has disclosed that it is intentional.

During the launch, Huawei did reveal that it has no plan to release the DXOMark score of any of the Mate 20 series models. That is because their camera benchmark scores by DXOMark’s are all extremely high! Can you beat that? Apparently, the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20X and Mate 20 Porsche design all have powerful camera setup. Among the lot, the Mate 20 Pro obviously should be the most powerful with its triple rear cameras consisting of a 40-megapixel + 20-megapixel + 8-megapixel triple camera setup. We may never know how they performed on DXOMark’s independent review. Huawei says it doesn’t want to court unnecessary publicity but we’re certain someday the company will release the score as a marketing tool.

So, as it stands, Huawei’s flagship P20 Pro still stands as DXOMark’s highest rated smartphone with an overall score of 109. This is followed by Apple’s latest flagship iPhone XS Max with 105 points. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 which made its debut yesterday comes in at third with a score of 103 points. The Mi Mix 3 edged Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to occupy the third spot.
