<p><strong>Availability</strong></p>
<p>Huawei Mate 40 will officially go on sale on December 21 while the Mate 40 Pro has already gone on sale for the first time today. The Mate 40 Pro+ also went on sale today (October 30) for the first time. The Mate 40 RS Porsche Design sales also commenced today but there is no indication when the Collector&#8217;s edition will go on sale.</p>
<p>We must note that the price in China is way lower than that of Europe but then if you are a hardcore Huawei fan or have interest in any of the models, you should be more worried about being able to lay your hands on the device than the price. Huawei is likely to have issues with availability for the models considering the inability to get chip supply from TSMC a wanted due to the US ban.</p>

Teasers of the Mate 40 have been coming out in bits. The latest teaser comes in form of a video released by Huawei’s terminal official Weibo page. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-348303" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1.png?x44794" alt="" width="599" height="460" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1-300x230.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-1-547x420.png 547w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></a>The teaser video is accompanied by the text &#8211; &#8220;Master assists, the second becomes the master. October 22, # Huawei Mate40# advanced smooth. ” The video itself is that of an interstellar space combat game. Some careful netizens found that as the frame number of the game in the lower-left corner becomes 90, the spacecraft equipment in the game is upgraded, which should imply that the Mate 40 series will upgrade the entire system to a 90Hz screen. This should further improve the fluency and should be an upgrade over the Mate 30 which came with 60Hz refresh rate.</p>
<div class="su-note"  style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick:</strong> <strong><a title="Carl Pei leaves OnePlus; reported to be starting his own venture" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/13/carl-pei-leaves-oneplus-reported-to-be-starting-his-own-venture/" rel="bookmark">Carl Pei leaves OnePlus; reported to be starting his own venture</a></strong></div></div><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-348289" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-2.png?x44794" alt="" width="600" height="337" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-2.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-mate-40-2-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Flagship phones have improved beyond 90Hzto 120Hz and even 144Hz on gaming phones. Thus, while 90Hz may not offer the most fluent display, it offers some improvements over 60Hz. We can&#8217;t even say if the top-end Mate 40 Pro will top at 120Hz. That is a possibility as Huawei won&#8217;t want to lag behind.</p>
<div style="width: 696px;" class="wp-video"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');</script><![endif]-->

<p>The mate 40 is expected to feature the 5nm Kirin 9000 chipset and will utilise a curved screen. A recent teaser also points to the presence of octagonal rear camera design. The phone is tipped to have 66W fast charge support and will run on EMUI 11 but don&#8217;t expect GMS on board.</p>

Ahead of the launch, Huawei&#8217;s smartphone division head, He Gang, has shared what is likely the first camera sample captured by the Mate 40 camera. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-347487" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-2.png?x44794" alt="" width="601" height="304" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-2.png 601w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-2-300x152.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px" /></a></p>
<p>The Huawei exec posted a picture of the moon captured at dawn in China. The proximity of the moon and the clarity of the shot is suggestive of a powerful zoom camera onboard the flagship models. Although the main configuration of the camera is still unknown, the device is definitely going to improve on the zoom camera featured on the previous two generations of Mate series models.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-347484" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei.jpg?x44794" alt="huawei Mate 40" width="640" height="640" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/huawei-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>Huawei gets most of the credits for making moon camera shots trendy for smartphones with zoom cameras. The Mate 40 series is expected to come with upgraded cameras which will likely hold the title of best camera phone for a while after the launch. The models are expected to also sport a 50MP main camera. It is already confirmed to pack a Kirin 9000 chipset, the brand&#8217;s first 5nm SoC.</p>
<p>The Mate 40 series will comprise of the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 Pro+ Porsche design variant. All the models will vary in their display sizes but will all be powered by the Hisilicon Kirin 9000 chipset built on TSMC’s 5nm node.</p>

A tipster who has dished out reliable info thus far has now revealed that the Mate 40 will be launched on October 22. Apparently, this is the global launch while the launch in China will happen on October 30.</p>
<p>The tipster @RODENT950 on Twitter, apart from indicating that the models will launch in China on October 30, also gave a possible timeline on the device&#8217;s progress with pre-launch teasers tipped to start emerging on October 12. The models will go on presale in China on October 22. Sadly, it is still unclear when Mate 40&#8217;s global sales will commence. From all indications, most regions will have to wait until next year to get the Mate 40 series.</p>

<p lang="en" dir="ltr">Let&#39;s make it clear</p>

<p>•October 30 is China&#39;s launch date. </p>

<p>The tipster had earlier disclosed that the Mate 40 series will comprise of the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 Pro+ Porsche design variant. All the models will vary in their display sizes but will all be powered by the Hisilicon Kirin 9000 chipset built on TSMC&#8217;s 5nm node. As usual, we expect the Mate 40 series to feature a topnotch camera setup which should rank as the best around when launched. Expect the Mate 40&#8217;s camera to upset the current DXOMark camera ranking.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-347140" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="1005" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40.jpg 1005w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40-147x300.jpg 147w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40-768x1565.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40-503x1024.jpg 503w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40-696x1418.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/mate-40-206x420.jpg 206w" sizes="(max-width: 1005px) 100vw, 1005px" /></a></p>
<p>There is still no official word from Huawei about the launch but if these details are anything to go by, we should start seeing some pre-launch teasers from next week Monday.</p>
