<p>For some time, Huawei has been struggling in the smartphone market due to the US embargo. However, the company is not giving up, and it has been working hard to regain its lost ground in both hardware and software. The latest move in its legendary comeback plan is the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 60 Pro</a>. The phones, which caused a great stir upon release, have won the approval of users around the world. In fact, within the first five days, it had sold nearly 800,000 units. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 Sells Nearly 1 Million Units in China</strong></h2>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-60/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 60</a> series has been a huge success in China. The phone went on sale on August 29th, and within the first five days, it had sold nearly 800,000 units. This is a significant improvement over the sales of the previous Mate series, which sold around 500,000 units. Of course, this success is no coincidence. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-1024x576.jpg?x44794" alt="HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04" class="wp-image-562609" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/HUAWEI-MATE-60-PRO04.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>After a few bad years, Huawei wanted to rise from the ashes and developed a technical marvel. The phone is powered by the latest Kirin 9000S processor, which is the fastest mobile processor available in China. It also features a new triple-lens rear camera system with a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide sensor, and a 12MP telephoto sensor.</p>

<p>The enthusiasm for the Huawei Mate 60 series is not limited to the Chinese market. International consumers are also eagerly buying up these devices. For instance, some Japanese consumers have reported that the 12GB + 512GB version of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro is priced at about 70,000 Chinese yuan in the Chinese market, which converts to approximately 140,000 Japanese yen.</p>

<p>However, Japanese consumers purchasing this smartphone model from local dealers have been met with prices exceeding 200,000 Japanese yen, roughly equal to 10,000 Chinese yuan. This shows that the device is also extremely popular in the Japanese market.</p>

<p>Many people might agree that Huawei has had a tough time in the tech world over the last few years. They once aimed to be the top global smartphone brand and were leading the industry with their new models. But, a U.S. ban has left them struggling. Despite this, Huawei isn&#8217;t giving up. They&#8217;re planning to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/26/huawei-mate-60-launch-near/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">launch the Mate 60 series</a>. Recent details suggest the new phone will include a feature called Spirit Island, similar to what&#8217;s in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro/">iPhone 14 Pro</a>, and also a new processor. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 60 to Feature Larger Rear Camera Module</strong></h2>

<p>The Huawei Mate 60 series is already a topic of curiosity, with its release date, features, and price. According to the latest leaks, the Mate 60 series will feature the &#8220;Spirit Island&#8221; design, which is similar to the front-facing camera module &#8220;Dynamic Island&#8221; on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 14</a> series. Many people may criticize Huawei for this design language. However, the company actually used a similar design on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-v20/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Honor V20</a> back in 2018. Moreover, many companies have also used this pill-shaped front camera housing since then.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 60 Pro" class="wp-image-552587" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/huawei-mate-60-series-spirit-island-1.webp 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The Spirit Island and Dynamic Island designs are similar in terms of their overall aesthetic, but they differ in terms of their interactivity. In the past, many phones have featured pill-shaped front camera housings, but none of them have used this space as effectively as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone</a> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">14 Pro</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pro Max</a>. Huawei is taking Honor&#8217;s technology and adding new features that are similar to Apple&#8217;s. </p>

<p>Of course, Huawei could have also chosen to place the camera under the display, but this technology is still in its early stages and the image quality is not as good as traditional cameras.</p>

<p>The design is not the only thing that has leaked. As you know, the Huawei Mate 60 series was expected to be powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/06/27/qualcomm-launches-snapdragon-4-gen-2-this-phone-could-be-first-to-feature-it/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 2</a>. However, recent reports suggest that at least one model will be powered by Huawei&#8217;s self-developed chip. This is likely due to the ongoing US sanctions against Huawei, which have made it difficult for the company to obtain the necessary licenses to use Qualcomm chips.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, the effects of the embargo continue despite the years that have passed. Huawei has yet to officially announce any information about the Mate 60 series, including its release date. However, the leaks suggest that the phone is in the works and could be released in the near future.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-50">Huawei Mate 50</a> series was launched towards the end of last year and it bought interesting features like Satellite connectivity and powerful cameras. But like the rest of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei </a>phones, the lineup was restricted to 4G connectivity, which definitely made them less desirable. But that might change with the upcoming Mate 60 series. The flagship line is reported to debut in October and it is said to bring 5G connectivity. Here are the details.</p>

<p></p>

<h2>5G could return on Huawei phones</h2>

<p>According to a recent Weibo post by Chinese tipster Classmateguan, the highly anticipated Huawei Mate 60 series is expected to launch this October. This timeline coincides with the previous year&#8217;s release schedule. Interestingly, the tipster seems to suggest that the upcoming phones will feature 5G connectivity, as evidenced by the cryptic message &#8220;GGGGG&#8221; performance.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="668" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-1024x668.jpg?x44794" alt="huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2" class="wp-image-532599" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-1024x668.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-300x196.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-768x501.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-696x454.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-1068x697.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2-644x420.jpg 644w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/huawei-mate-60-series-5G-2.jpg 1088w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>For the unaware, due to trade restrictions with U.S. companies like Qualcomm, Huawei has been barred from using 5G technology. This move has been seen to negatively impact the Chinese company’s smartphone business. Just a few years ago, Huawei claimed a global leadership position in the sale of smartphones and wireless networking equipment but now it’s barely staying relevant in the market.</p>

<p>In any case, Huawei is keeping up with the pace of technology and continues to offer consumers decent smartphones. Its latest release, the P60 series, boasts an impressive design and camera setup, which has been well-received by consumers. However, it&#8217;s worth noting that the lineup currently uses 4G chipsets, as that&#8217;s currently what the company has access to.</p>

<p>While details about the Mate 60 series are scarce, some renders have been circulating on the internet showing a possible Mate 60 series phone with a rear circular camera similar to that of the Honor X40. However, we don’t think these renders are accurate.</p>
