<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> has launched a new version of its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-pro-max-mate-80-rs-dual-layer-oled-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro Max</a> (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/12/the-most-powerful-pro-max-of-the-year-huawei-mate-80-pro-max-review/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">review</a>), called the Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition. This model adds a built-in cooling fan and is currently available for pre-order in China. The company is expected to share full details at its March 23 launch event.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="458" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-1024x458.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition" class="wp-image-731449" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-1024x458.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-300x134.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-768x343.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-1536x687.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-696x311.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-1068x478.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702-939x420.png 939w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-190702.png 1820w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The phone looks similar to the standard Mate 80 Pro Max, but there are visible changes in the camera area. The rear camera ring is wider and includes small ventilation holes. These vents house an active cooling fan placed inside the camera module. This setup is designed to control heat during heavy usage.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="909" height="802" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition" class="wp-image-731453" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256.png 909w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256-300x265.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256-768x678.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256-696x614.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-21-191256-476x420.png 476w" sizes="(max-width: 909px) 100vw, 909px" /></figure></div>

<p>The fan is expected to help the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset maintain performance during long sessions such as gaming or intensive tasks. It may also help with heat management during extended video recording. To make space for the fan, Huawei has removed one rear camera. The Wind Edition features a triple-camera system instead of the quad-camera setup on the standard model.</p>

<p>Other specifications remain the same as the regular variant. The device has a 6.9-inch AMOLED LTPO display. It is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro processor and includes a 6,000mAh battery. Charging support includes 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.</p>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition is available in Polar Night Black and Polar Day Gold. It comes in two storage options: 16GB RAM with 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 1TB storage.</p>

<p>Huawei has not confirmed the price yet. For reference, the standard Mate 80 Pro Max starts at 7,999 yuan ($1,162) in China. Pricing and more details are expected to be announced at the March 23 event.</p>

<p>As we wrap up the year, five models stand out as the most impressive flagships from China. These aren’t just spec monsters, they’re statements of intent from the country’s biggest players.</p>

<h3><strong>Oppo Find X9 Pro</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="Oppo-Find-X9-Pro" class="wp-image-711163" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1-746x420.png 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Oppo-Find-X9-Pro-1-1.png 1107w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oppo-find-x9-pro/">Oppo Find X9 Pro</a> (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/10/29/oppo-find-x9-pro-review-flawed-but-still-the-best-overall/">review</a>)is the closest thing to a professional camera that fits in your pocket. Its triple rear setup includes a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a massive 200MP periscope telephoto lens with the Samsung HP5. What makes it stand out is the Hasselblad teleconverter kit, an optional accessory that brings a true 230mm equivalent focal length with a bright f/2.1 aperture. That’s something even DSLR shooters will envy.</p>

<p>The 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display hits 3600 nits peak brightness, while the Dimensity 9500 chipset and a 7500mAh silicon-carbon battery ensure this phone doesn’t just look good but lasts long. ColorOS 16 on Android 16 is refined, and the multi-spectral lens adds a science-fiction-level dimension to imaging. If you shoot a lot of video, this phone’s 4K 120fps Dolby Vision and 10-bit Log support are simply unmatched.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-17-pro-max/">Xiaomi 17 Pro Max</a> (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/30/when-respecting-the-iphone-goes-too-far-xiaomi-17-pro-max-review/">review</a>) is a lesson in going all out. The 6.9-inch 2K OLED screen is stunning. It’s paired with a Dynamic Back Display, a second 2.9-inch AMOLED screen that doubles as a smart widget hub and selfie preview monitor.</p>

<p>Camera-wise, the phone delivers with a Leica-branded 50MP main sensor, 50MP ultra-wide, and a 5x periscope with a 1/2-inch sensor and prism design to boost light intake. Xiaomi’s software experience on HyperOS 3 is snappy, and the 7500mAh battery, 100W charging, and UWB support round it out as a well-balanced beast. This is the ultimate lifestyle flagship with a side of gaming nostalgia thanks to the optional Retro Handheld Gamer Case.</p>

<h3><strong>Vivo X300 Pro</strong></h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1.png?x44794" alt="Vivo X300 Pro" class="wp-image-718557" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Vivo-X300-Pro-1-1024x640-1-672x420.png 672w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/vivo-x300-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vivo X300 Pro</a> might be the most balanced flagship of the year. It packs a 50MP Sony LYT-828 sensor, 200MP Samsung HPB periscope, and 50MP ultra-wide, all tied together with Zeiss APO certification and a dual-chip imaging system (V3+ and VS1). For photography enthusiasts, this one goes deep on optics and clarity. Even the front camera gets a 50MP treatment with 4K video recording.</p>

<p>The 6.78-inch AMOLED display supports full-link natural color calibration and 4500 nits peak brightness. The 6510mAh battery, 90W wired and 40W wireless charging keep things moving, while the OriginOS 6 based on Android 16 runs like a charm. It’s the kind of phone that feels like it was co-designed with pro shooters and UI nerds alike.</p>

<p>Honor came into 2025 swinging with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/honor-magic-8-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Magic 8 Pro</a>. Its most striking feature isn’t just the 200MP telephoto camera or the 6.71-inch quad-curved OLED display, it’s the AI. Magic UI 10 introduces a cross-platform ecosystem that actually works across Android, iOS, HarmonyOS, and Windows. Add to that the YOYO agent, which can handle over 3,000 real-life scenarios, and this phone genuinely feels futuristic.</p>

<p>It also debuts Magic Color, an AI-based color engine that brings 16.77 million tones to life with real-time local and global tonality adjustments. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 keeps things fluid, while the 7200mAh battery supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Honor’s calling card here is software maturity, something that finally matches its hardware chops.</p>

<p>If any phone in this roundup feels like it was built for survivalists, it’s the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80-pro-max/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max</a> (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/12/the-most-powerful-pro-max-of-the-year-huawei-mate-80-pro-max-review/">review</a>). This 6.9-inch behemoth combines a Kirin 9030 Pro chip with HarmonyOS 6 and a stunning dual-layer OLED display. The camera system is arguably the most versatile: 50MP main, 50MP macro telephoto, 40MP ultra-wide, and 50MP super telephoto with Huawei’s XMAGE magic baked in.</p>

<p>The phone supports satellite messaging, Beidou navigation, and peer-to-peer calls even without a network. It also features next-gen Kunlun glass, IP68 and IP69 protection, and a 6000mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Think of it as the smartphone equivalent of a Swiss Army knife: tough, capable, and ready for anything.</p>

This comes despite ongoing supply limits, especially for higher-end models in the lineup. Early demand has been high enough that some configurations are already facing long delivery delays. <p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a>’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-mate-80-pro-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 series</a> has started strong in China, crossing an estimated 750,000 units shipped in about two weeks after <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-pro-max-mate-80-rs-dual-layer-oled-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">launch</a>. This comes despite ongoing supply limits, especially for higher-end models in the lineup. Early demand has been high enough that some configurations are already facing long delivery delays.</p>

<p>According to Weibo tipster Geek Village Chief (极客村长), Huawei has been shipping Mate 80 units steadily since launch, but supply has not kept pace with demand. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-pro-max-mate-80-rs-dual-layer-oled-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro Max</a>, which <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/12/the-most-powerful-pro-max-of-the-year-huawei-mate-80-pro-max-review/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">we have recently reviewed</a>, is the most affected. New orders are being quoted waiting periods of up to two months, with some Huawei stores reportedly pushing delivery estimates to February 2026.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="748" height="336" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-16-041031.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-719491" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-16-041031.png 748w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-16-041031-300x135.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Screenshot-2025-12-16-041031-696x313.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Mate series has long been Huawei’s flagship line in China, and the Mate 80 continues that trend. The series is popular because it combines high-end hardware with pricing that stays below many competing flagships. Even with new camera hardware, upgraded internals, and deeper HarmonyOS integration, Huawei has kept prices within reach of a wider group of buyers. That balance between features and cost is a major reason behind the fast sales pace. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80</a> base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage costs CNY 4,699 (around $660 USD), and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro</a> model has a starting price of CNY 5,999 (about $840 USD).</p>

<p><a href="https://phone.cnmo.com/news/800723.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Local reports</a> say the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/26/meet-the-mate-80-series-huaweis-bold-new-flagships/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 series</a> is selling faster in China than recent launches from Apple and Xiaomi, including the iPhone 17 and Xiaomi 17 series. The strong start also points to Huawei’s broader recovery in the domestic market. Over the past year, Huawei has steadily increased its market share and returned to the top tier of smartphone brands in China. Its extensive offline retail network, a loyal customer base, and a consistent flagship launch cycle are driving this recovery.</p>

<p>If supply improves, the Mate 80 series could post very high lifetime shipments. Estimates suggest the lineup could cross 10 to 14 million units over its sales cycle. For now, demand is clearly ahead of supply, and Huawei’s next challenge is scaling production fast enough to match it.</p>

<p>So yes, HUAWEI did it too. The Mate Pro+ series has now been renamed as Pro Max this year. Xiaomi taught us through its own sales numbers that, as long as the product is powerful enough, the name doesn’t matter. In fact, HUAWEI probably thinks the same way, which is why the Mate 80 Pro Max has become the new peak of HUAWEI smartphones. Also, this is the most impressive Pro Max I’ve ever seen. With a major redesign and a launch price lower than last year’s Mate 70 Pro+, there’s no reason the Mate 80 Pro Max would be anything less than great.</p>

<h3><strong>Design &amp; Features</strong></h3>

<p>Let me answer the question you’re most curious about. No, this ring on the back doesn&#8217;t support magnetic accessories. Why the Mate 80 Pro Max has such a ring here it’s simply to prevent the functions of the wireless charging coil from being blocked by its metal back cover.</p>

<p>Compared to the Mate 70 series, the frames of the Mate 80 series have changed from round to flat. The benefit is that it looks slimmer. As for the downside, your hand will tell you.</p>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro Max is a phone with many holes. The three holes on the screen are nothing new; basically, the 3D facial recognition module and the front camera.</p>

<p>There are also five holes along the frame, including the microphone, speaker port, and SIM card slot—most of them are familiar to us. But what is this hole on the side for? HUAWEI told us that this is also one of the speakers. The difference is that it’s mainly used to cancel out the sound waves leaking during calls, to protect your privacy during phone calls.</p>

<p>Many of HUAWEI’s target users are outdoor explorers, so HUAWEI also designed new features for them. The Mate 80 Pro Max adds a new Expedition mode, which turns a modern smartphone into a professional outdoor tool. In addition to satellite communication and emergency messaging, it also extends battery life a lot. The map has also been optimized, automatically recording your path and allowing you to retrace your route anytime.</p>

<p>With IP68 and IP69 ratings, and the second-generation Kunlun Glass, treating the Mate 80 Pro Max as an ultimate rugged phone is absolutely justified.</p>

<h3><strong>Display</strong></h3>

<p>If you have the budget to buy the Mate 80 Pro Max or RS Ultimate version, your display will be upgraded from regular OLED to a Tandem one. Tandem OLED is not a new technology. The iPad Pro and HUAWEI Mate 70 RS Ultimate both use Tandem OLED.</p>

<p>The benefits of this panel are obvious—higher brightness, wider color gamut, and lower power consumption. Higher resolution may not be noticeable for everyone, but higher brightness is something you will definitely feel. I placed it next to several flagship phones we own, and at a glance, you can see how high the Mate 80 Pro Max’s brightness is.</p>

<p>Not only is it easier to read under sunlight, but it also excels at HDR content. The blinding highlights are hard to capture in video. Trust me, if you get a chance to see the Mate 80 Pro Max’s display in a store, you’ll definitely feel tempted to buy it.</p>

<p>The only downside of Tandem OLED is expense; however, the Mate 80 Pro Max is probably the cheapest Tandem OLED phone at launch right now. So this should be one of the strongest reasons for you to buy this phone.</p>

<h3><strong>Performance &amp; Battery</strong></h3>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro Max uses the latest and most powerful Kirin 9030 Pro platform. Compared to the Kirin 9020, the 9030 Pro has one extra P-core, and both CPU and GPU frequencies have been improved. It’s worth noting that the four phones in the Mate 80 series have three different Kirin processor models. If you want the highest performance from a HUAWEI phone, you need to get the 16GB RAM Pro version at least.</p>

<p>Since the benchmarks we commonly use are all blacklisted by HUAWEI, we won’t be running benchmarks this time—the scores can’t prove the strength of a chipset anyway. So let’s jump straight to gaming performance.</p>

<p><br>Fortunately, miHoYo developed a HarmonyOS-exclusive version of Genshin Impact. This makes it one of the very few games that can fully unleash the Kirin 9030 Pro’s performance. And when you enable high-performance mode, you can disable frame interpolation.</p>

<p>HUAWEI also designed a new performance monitoring tool for all HarmonyOS phones: HiSmartPerf. With this, we can finally capture accurate frame rate curves from HarmonyOSI devices.</p>

<p>Wow, look at this perfectly straight frame rate graph—can you believe this is from a HUAWEI phone? This is the native frame rate without interpolation. I can&#8217;t believe that. It’s beautiful. Thanks to the full metal back cover, heat is evenly distributed. From this, the gaming experience seems comparable to other Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 phones.</p>

<p>Well, the Kirin 9030 Pro has indeed made great progress, but there is a cost—its power consumption still has room to improve. And with the battery capacity only increased by 300mAh compared to the previous generation—less than we expected—so battery life in gaming does indeed fall behind. Fortunately, under light workloads, it’s power-efficient enough to rival phones with 7000mAh batteries if you don’t play games.</p>

<p>Wired charging supports 100W, and wireless charging goes up to 80W. It only takes 50 minutes to fully charge in our tests. Overall, I think battery and charging performance are still satisfying.</p>

<h3><strong>Camera</strong></h3>

<p>All four camera sensors on the Mate 80 Pro Max come from SmartSens Technology. Honestly, I’m very happy with all four of them. The ultra-wide has a sufficiently wide field of view, and 2 telephoto lenses let me capture subjects far away.</p>

<div><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008.jpg?x44794" class="td-modal-image"><figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1920" height="960" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-718942" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-1536x768.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-1068x534.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/HUAWEI-Mate-80-Pro-Max.mp4_20251212_165416.008-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /></figure></a></div>

<p>There are two things to note: First, the ultra-wide camera is not compromised like in many other flagships. It uses the same sensor as the two telephotos, meaning image quality at every focal length remains excellent. Secondly, every sensor uses an RYYB filter, increasing light intake and greatly improving low-light performance. And the color shift caused by RYYB can be corrected with the second-generation color temperature sensor. Combined with the variable aperture on the main camera and SmartSens’s new HDR technology, this is the most feature-rich and balanced camera system I’ve seen. Whether it’s dynamic range, white balance, or focal coverage, I can’t find any faults.</p>

<p>Some phones try to use a 200MP mid-telephoto camera, rely on in-sensor zoom to cover longer focal lengths. Although in most cases, the cropped photos look similar to the Mate 80 Pro Max’s 6.2x optical zoom, this approach has two major drawbacks you might not know: One, their telephoto cameras cannot shoot macro photos. The Mate 80 Pro Max’s 4x telephoto has a minimum focusing distance of 5cm—the best macro performance we’ve ever seen on any phone, period.</p>

<p>Two, if you need to shoot video using the telephoto lens, the quality difference becomes huge. So, between a single large-sensor telephoto and two smaller-sensor telephotos that cover longer ranges, I’ll always choose the latter.</p>

<p>Speaking of video recording, the Mate 80 Pro Max has improved a lot as well. Shaking caused by stabilization has been reduced significantly. The ultra-wide sensor is also larger than that of other flagships, performing better than expected in low light.</p>

<p>The front camera is also from SmartSens, but with a smaller sensor. Selfie quality is average.</p>

<h3><strong>Conclusion</strong></h3>

<p>After reviewing this phone, I realized I like it more than the time I bought it. Although it looks more ordinary now, and its performance can’t compete with other Pro Max devices, HarmonyOS 6 is very smooth, and battery life is excellent if you don’t play games. The camera system is my favorite—full-range quad cameras—and it also has the brightest display I’ve ever seen.</p>

<p>Add long-held advantages like signals and Face ID, and you’ll understand why HUAWEI phones remain popular. Oh, and it’s also cheaper now, so for longtime HUAWEI users, this is the perfect time to upgrade.</p>

<p>Huawei Mate 80 series attracts buyers ranging from everyday users to power-focused enthusiasts, making it essential to understand how each model differs. With the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, and Mate 80 Pro Max targeting slightly different needs, this comparison helps buyers choose the version that delivers the best balance of performance, value, and premium features. Whether someone wants a budget-conscious option, a performance upgrade, or a full flagship experience, comparing these three models ensures they pick the one that truly matches their priorities.</p>

<h1><strong>Design and Display</strong></h1>

<h2><strong>Build and Feel</strong></h2>

<p>All three Mate 80 models share a rugged IP68/IP69 build with premium materials, but the Pro Max introduces a more robust metal-backed design that feels notably higher-end. The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro look nearly identical, though the Pro subtly feels more refined due to its upgraded camera housing and overall finish. The Pro Max stands out as the most luxurious, appealing to users who want a flagship presence with added durability.</p>

<h2><strong>Display Quality</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro use the same LTPO OLED panel with smooth 120Hz refresh and HDR Vivid support. The Pro Max upgrades the experience with a larger screen and a massive 8000-nit peak brightness, giving it a clear edge outdoors and in HDR playback. It&#8217;s slightly higher resolution also makes visuals appear richer. Between the Mate 80 and Pro, the display experience stays largely unchanged.</p>

<h3><strong>Verdict</strong></h3>

<p>For the best viewing upgrades, the Pro Max is the meaningful step up. Those satisfied with a premium display without extreme brightness will find the Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro equally capable.</p>

<h1><strong>Specifications</strong></h1>

<h2><strong>Performance</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 80 runs on the Kirin 9020, while the Mate 80 Pro upgrades to the newer Kirin 9030 series with a stronger CPU cluster and a more advanced Maleoon 935 GPU. This results in snappier multitasking and improved gaming smoothness on the Pro models. The Pro Max mirrors the Pro’s chipset but benefits from higher-end configurations and better sustained performance thanks to its enhanced thermal design. Users seeking heavier productivity or graphics workloads will notice the Pro and Pro Max pushing ahead comfortably.</p>

<h2><strong>Battery and Charging</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 80’s charging peaks at 66W wired and 50W wireless, which feels adequate but noticeably behind the Pro and Pro Max. Both upgraded models support 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, making them far more convenient for fast top-ups. The Pro Max adds another upgrade with its larger 6000mAh battery, giving it significantly better endurance.</p>

<h3><strong>Verdict</strong></h3>

<p>The Mate 80 suits everyday workloads, but the Mate 80 Pro and Pro Max deliver clear upgrades in power and charging efficiency, with the Pro Max offering the strongest balance overall.</p>

<h1><strong>Camera</strong></h1>

<h2><strong>Main and Secondary Lenses</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 80 starts strong with a capable triple camera system, but the Mate 80 Pro improves zoom performance through a higher-resolution 48MP telephoto lens with better stabilization. Image sharpness and low-light clarity see noticeable upgrades. The Mate 80 Pro Max takes the biggest leap with a quad-camera system including dual periscope lenses, one for mid-range and one for long-range zoom, resulting in more versatile framing and cleaner detail at extended distances. This setup clearly caters to users who prioritize advanced mobile photography.</p>

<h2><strong>Selfie Camera</strong></h2>

<p>All three models share the same 13MP ultrawide selfie camera paired with a TOF 3D sensor, meaning the front-facing experience remains consistent. The Pro and Pro Max, however, benefit from enhanced image processing thanks to the updated chipset, giving selfies a slightly more refined look.</p>

<h3><strong>Verdict</strong></h3>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro brings meaningful zoom and processing upgrades, while the Pro Max represents the biggest generational jump, especially for telephoto performance.</p>

<h1><strong>Pricing</strong></h1>

<p>The Mate 80 enters at around $700 and offers strong value, but the $900 Mate 80 Pro adds upgrades in performance, zoom capabilities, and charging that justify the higher tier. The Mate 80 Pro Max, priced at nearly $1100, firmly pushes into ultra-premium territory with clear improvements in screen brightness, advanced camera hardware, and battery capacity. </p>

<p>Each model aligns with a different user segment, but the value-per-upgrade ratio grows more niche as you move up the ladder.</p>

<p><em>Disclaimer:</em><strong><br></strong><em>Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, and applicable taxes.</em></p>

<h3><strong>Verdict&nbsp;</strong></h3>

<p>The biggest jump in meaningful upgrades comes from Mate 80 to Mate 80 Pro. The Pro Max is best for users who want every possible enhancement, especially display brightness and telephoto versatility.</p>

<h1><strong>Conclusion</strong></h1>

<p>All three phones share HarmonyOS 6, satellite messaging (China-only), and premium durability, but the upgrades become clearer as you move upward. The Mate 80 Pro adds faster silicon, better zoom, and faster charging, making it a balanced upgrade. The Pro Max extends these gains further with a brighter display, larger battery, and a unique dual-telephoto system that dramatically improves shooting flexibility. Each step up introduces meaningful improvements rather than cosmetic ones, giving users clear choices based on their priorities.</p>

<h3><strong>Verdict</strong></h3>

<p>Choose the Mate 80 for value, the Mate 80 Pro for the best upgrade-per-dollar, and the Mate 80 Pro Max if you want Huawei’s most complete flagship experience. Honestly, Mate 80 Pro offers the best upgrade-for-price balance, while the Pro Max is ideal only if you want Huawei’s most advanced camera and display package.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> has launched new micro-pump liquid cooling cases for its latest Mate 80 series smartphones in China. The new accessory supports the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro</a>, and Mate 80 Pro Max models. <div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-1024x640.png?x44794" alt="Huawei micro-pump liquid cooling case" class="wp-image-716996" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-1024x640.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-768x480.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-696x435.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-1068x668.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-672x420.png 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The case now adopts a full-cover structure instead of the partial design used in previous generations. The upgraded layout allows the entire back surface of the phone to cool more evenly.</p>

<p>Huawei has designed the case with a slim and lightweight PU build to maintain a comfortable in-hand feel. It includes a transparent window on the lower rear section that makes the internal liquid circulation system visible. The window gives the case a more high-tech and futuristic look.</p>

<p>The internal hardware uses an ultra-thin liquid cooling layer paired with a high-precision micro-pump. The system relies on a high-efficiency heat absorption sheet that helps reduce the phone’s surface temperature during heavy workloads. The case keeps the device cooler in scenarios like gaming, video rendering, or using navigation at high brightness.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="619" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-1024x619.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei micro-pump liquid cooling case" class="wp-image-716995" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-1024x619.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-300x181.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-768x464.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-1536x928.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-696x421.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-1068x645.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2-695x420.jpg 695w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-micro-pump-liquid-cooling-case-2.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The micro-pump runs automatically and adjusts its behavior based on the phone’s temperature and workload. It turns on or shuts down without any manual input, since the case does not include a physical switch. The system draws power wirelessly from the smartphone through reverse wireless charging, so the case does not require separate cables or an external power source.</p>

<p>The accessory is currently listed on Vmall for sale in China.</p>

<p>Earlier this week, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei </a>introduced its Mate 80 series of next gen flagship smartphones in its home market. The lineup consists of the base <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-mate-80-pro-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80</a><em>, </em><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-mate-80-pro-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro</a>, new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-pro-max-mate-80-rs-dual-layer-oled-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 Pro Max</a>, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/25/huawei-mate-80-pro-max-mate-80-rs-dual-layer-oled-launch-specs-price-harmonyos-6/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mate 80 RS Ultimate Edition</a>. These premium devices feature the brand&#8217;s in-house silicon, bold designs, and cutting edge camera and display technology. With four distinct models, Huawei is trying to cover all bases. So here&#8217;s a quick breakdown of what the Mate 80 series brings to the table.</p>

<h3>Meet the Mate 80 Lineup</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro Launch Specs Price" class="wp-image-716614" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-and-Mate-80-Pro-Launch-Specs-Price-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Mate 80 Series comprises four variants: Huawei Mate 80, Huawei Mate 80 Pro, Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max, and Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design. Each uses Huawei&#8217;s custom chipset and runs on HarmonyOS 6. The base Mate 80 is built with the Kirin 9020, targeting users who want flagship level design and features without spending an exorbitant sum. But the Mate 80 Pro and Mate 80 Pro Max step up the performance with the newer Kirin 9030/Kirin 9030 Pro chipsets. The RS Ultimate Design gets the Kirin 9030 chip as well, but pairs it with a whopping 20GB of RAM. </p>

<h3>Dual-Ring Builds &amp; Dual-Layer OLED</h3>

<p>All models in the Mate 80 series carry a distinctive dual-ring design, combining glass, metal, and brocade fiber for enhanced durability. These also get an IP68 + IP69 rating for water and dust resistance, Xuanwu mid frame, Kunlun Glass for protection. The second ring below the circular camera module basically makes the infinity &#8220;8&#8221; figure.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715437" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-Pro-Max-Design-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>On the front, the base Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro ship with a tall 6.75-inch OLED display with LTPO support for a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, 1.5K resolution, 1440Hz PWM dimming, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and second generation Kunlun glass. While this is fairly standard, the Mate 80 Pro Max and Mate 80 RS Ultimate take things a step further with a tall 6.9-inch dual layer OLED display. This also brings LTPO, 1-120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz PWM dimming, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and a ludicrous peak brightness of 8000 nits. The new dual-layer OLED implementation is a standout, promising better durability, color accuracy, and higher brightness. </p>

<h3>Cameras &amp; Photography</h3>

<p>Photography has been one of Huawei&#8217;s strong suits, and it hasn&#8217;t skipped out here. Across the series, the camera hardware stays compelling, with the Mate 80 Pro Max and RS Ultimate offering advanced imaging systems. You get a main 50 MP sensor, RYYB color filter, ultra-wide, macro telephoto, and a super-telephoto lens that delivers up to 6.2× optical zoom and 12.4× “optical-quality” zoom. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price" class="wp-image-716622" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The main camera is a large 1/1.28-inch sensor with 10 stop variable aperture, and there is even support for a new 3.3x teleconverter photography kit. This camera system is powered by Huawei&#8217;s proprietary XMAGE imaging tech. Meanwhile, the base Mate 80 and Mate 80 Pro feature less advanced hardware. The standard model gets a 50MP main + 40MP ultra wide angle lens, + 12MP periscope telephoto shooter, and the Mate 80 Pro arrives with a 50MP main + 40MP ultra wide angle lens, + 48MP macro telephoto shooter. For selfies and video calls, all four models pack a 13MP camera on the front.</p>

<p>On top of that, features like AI-assisted composition, dynamic portrait tweaks, super-night shots, RAW support, and Starry-Sky portrait mode make the cameras versatile. These are also suitable for creative work, travel photography, and content creation as well.</p>

<h3>AI, Satellite Tools &amp; Extras</h3>

<p>All Mate 80 models run HarmonyOS 6, giving access to a suite of AI tools and cross-device integrations. More interestingly, the Pro Max and RS models support satellite communication (via Tiantong &amp; Beidou) and come packed with robust outdoor tools: maps, compass, waypoint tracking, and emergency messaging. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1" class="wp-image-716625" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>These are features that make the devices ideal for travel or outdoor enthusiasts. The RS Ultimate also adds further polish: titanium frames, enhanced glass protection, and even a smarter AI assistant that can learn your habits, automate tasks, and bring dynamic themes. </p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> announced the Mate 80 series in China today, and at the top of the lineup sits the new Mate 80 Pro Max. It’s the most powerful and most durable Mate phone from Huawei, featuring an all-metal chassis, a new dual-layer OLED display, and satellite connectivity. </p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Specifications</strong></h2>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro Max is built around an all-metal body with Huawei’s second-generation Kunlun glass at the front. The company claims this setup increases drop resistance by 20 times, improves bending resistance by 20 percent, and doubles scratch resistance over the previous generation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The phone is also IP69 and IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716622" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Launch-Specs-Price-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>More impressively, the Mate 80 Pro Max is the first smartphone in the industry with a dual-layer OLED screen. As a result, it can reach a peak brightness of 8000 nits, and the dual-layer structure is touted to offer great efficiency and better viewing contrast.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The screen measures 6.9 inches and features a 120Hz refresh rate, a 10-bit color gamut, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and 300 Hz touch sampling rate.</p>

<p>The entire Mate 80 range also includes a full 3D ToF setup on the front for biometrics. It combines a depth-sensing sender, depth-sensing receiver, and a 13MP front camera into what Huawei calls an AI posture-aware design. Essentially, it’s supposed to recognize faces more accurately and track body movement more precisely.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="342" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Display.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716623" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Display.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Display-300x114.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Display-768x292.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Display-696x264.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>On the performance side, the new phone is powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro chip in conjunction with Huawei’s Ark Graphics Engine. Huawei says the Mate 80 Pro Max is 45 percent smoother and loads apps 34 percent faster than last year’s Mate 70 series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The phone also supports 3DGS rendering acceleration and hardware-accelerated ray tracing capable of 20 million rays per second, which should improve gaming, video rendering, and motion graphics.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716612" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Kirin-9030-performance-jump-over-Kirin-9020-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>Huawei says the Mate 80 Pro Max offers the highest integration of communications systems in any smartphone. It supports Wi-Fi 7 Plus, standard cellular networks, Tiantong satellite communication, and Beidou satellite messaging.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Huawei is pitching this as “ground network + sky network + no network,” with support for 700MHz emergency communications in situations where carrier networks are unavailable.</p>

<h3><strong>Cameras</strong></h3>

<p>The Mate 80 Pro Max debuts with Huawei’s second-generation Maple Leaf Imaging System. It’s built around a redesigned primary imaging sensor with 2.45μm equivalent pixels and claims a 96 percent increase in total light intake.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Huawei says the phone offers 300 percent higher dynamic range thanks to a dual-real-time fusion system, and can sense color more accurately through an upgraded spectral array.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716624" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-cameras-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<p>The main camera itself is a 50-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor with a 10-stop variable aperture that can shift between f/1.4 and f/4.0. There’s also a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera, a 50MP macro telephoto with 4× optical zoom, and a second 50MP periscope with 6.2× optical zoom and up to 12.4× “optical quality” zoom.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If that’s not enough, the phone also supports a 3.3× teleconverter via a new add-on accessory kit. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="474" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716634" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens-768x404.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens-696x367.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-teleconverter-lens-797x420.jpg 797w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<h2><strong>And then there’s the Mate 80 RS | Ultimate Design</strong></h2>

<p>If the Pro Max still isn’t enough, Huawei has something even more premium: the Mate 80 RS | Ultimate Design. This limited version builds on the Pro Max hardware, adds a more luxurious design, and maxes the memory to 20GB.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="900" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-716625" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1.jpg 900w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /></figure></div>

<h2><strong>Pricing and Availability</strong></h2>

<p>The Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max starts at 7,999 yuan (around $1,100) for the 16GB + 512GB model, while the 16GB + 1TB variant is priced at 8,999 yuan (approximately $1,240).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Mate 80 RS | Ultimate Design comes with 20GB of RAM and either 512GB or 1TB of storage, priced at 11,999 yuan ($1,650) and 12,999 yuan ($1,790), respectively.</p>

<p>Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Executive Director and head of its smart device division, shared the first look at the Mate 80 Pro Max in a short video posted earlier today.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Huawei traditionally offered “Pro” and “Pro+” variants in the Mate series, but this year the company is introducing a new “Pro Max” model that will replace the Pro+ entirely.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Huawei Mate 80 series boasts a new dual ring design</strong></h2>

<p>The Pro Max model has a unique dual-ring layout on the back. The upper ring houses a large circular camera module with four lenses, the XMAGE branding at the center, and an LED flash tucked into the outer ring.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="556" height="600" data-id="715438" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-mAte-80-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715438" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-mAte-80-1.jpg 556w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-mAte-80-1-278x300.jpg 278w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-mAte-80-1-389x420.jpg 389w" sizes="(max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 80</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="556" height="600" data-id="715440" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Design.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715440" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Design.jpg 556w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Design-278x300.jpg 278w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Design-389x420.jpg 389w" sizes="(max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 80 Pro</figcaption></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="556" height="600" data-id="715439" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Design.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715439" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Design.jpg 556w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Design-278x300.jpg 278w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-Mate-80-Pro-Max-Design-389x420.jpg 389w" sizes="(max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max</figcaption></figure>
</figure>

<p>Right beneath it sits a second ring that is nearly the same size, creating a figure-eight-like design. The lower ring is likely for magnetic charging or accessory interface, just like MagSafe for iPhones.</p>

<p>Magnetic accessories for Android phones finally debuted with the Pixel 10 series&#8217; PixelSnap feature, so there’s no reason for Huawei to be left behind.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For those wanting something even more premium, the Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design edition goes in a different direction. It features an octagonal camera module paired with distinctive Huawei and Ultimate Design branding.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="556" height="600" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-RS-Ultimate-Design.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715441" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-RS-Ultimate-Design.jpg 556w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-278x300.jpg 278w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Huawei-MAte-80-RS-Ultimate-Design-389x420.jpg 389w" sizes="(max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px" /><figcaption>Huawei Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Huawei has confirmed that the Mate 80 series, along with the Mate X7 and several ecosystem devices, will debut on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/17/huaweis-mate-80-series-and-mate-x7-are-officially-launching-on-november-25/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">November 25th</a>. All the debuting phones are expected to be powered by the new Kirin 9030 processor.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/huawei">Huawei</a> is preparing for a major launch event on Nov. 25, where it is expected to introduce the Mate 80 series. At the same event, the company will reportedly unveil the Mate X7 and the MatePad Edge. A leak shared by tipster UncleShan a couple of days ago has revealed the configurations and colour options for these products, offering a full preview ahead of the official announcement.</p>

<h3><strong>Huawei Mate 80 series configurations, color options</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="940" height="529" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak.webp?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 80 Pro" class="wp-image-709706" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak.webp 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Huawei-Mate-80-series-live-image-leak-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /><figcaption>Expected to be the Huawei Mate 80 Pro</figcaption></figure>

<p>According to the <a href="https://weibo.com/5530437862/QbyVyn1Az">leak</a>, the Mate 80 series will arrive with multiple storage and colour options. The standard <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80">Mate 80</a> is said to come in 12GB+256GB and 16GB+512GB or 1TB variants, offered in Obsidian Black, Snowy White, Spruce Green and Dawn Gold.</p>

<p>For those wanting higher-end hardware, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80-pro-max">Mate 80 Pro Max</a> is tipped to ship in 16GB+512GB and 16GB+1TB variants and may come in Aurora Cyan, Daybreak Gold, Midnight Black and Polar Silver.</p>

<p>The premium <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-80-rs">Mate 80 RS</a> could feature 20GB+512GB and 20GB+1TB versions in Black, White and Violet finishes.</p>

<p>Battery capacities across the series are reportedly 5750mAh and 6000mAh, with all models featuring a flat-screen design.</p>

<h3><strong>Mate X7 and MatePad Edge</strong></h3>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x7">Huawei Mate X7</a> foldable phone is expected to launch in 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB versions, while the Mate X7 Collector’s Edition may come in 16GB+512GB, 16GB+1TB and 20GB+1TB configurations. It reportedly features a dual-fan cooling system and will debut in Moonlight Silver and Deep Space Grey.
