This one isn’t just for any category of fans, though, as it carries an 8999 Yuan ($1300) price tag. The Mate 9 Porsche Design is customised, crafted by the popular Porsche Design studio with an AMOLED display panel.

Thus, it was mortifying and even horrifying to see how the device looked when it took a tumble off its owner’s hands and boom! the screen got shattered. More horrifying is the cost the owner will likely incur on the $1300 phone if he decides to get the screen changed.

The Mate 9 Porsche Design screen alone costs around 4688 (around $679) and this is apart from the cost of the labour by the repairer. So, the owner may likely be looking at an $800 repair bill. That is enough to get you an iPhone by the way. I’m sure you’ll agree now that the Mate 9 Porsche isn’t for everyone. Apart from being very expensive, it is also costly to maintain. The Mate 9 Porsche Design and the Mate 9 Pro, both have the same curved design except that the Porsche Design has the Porsche logo at its front and back, and also comes only in 6GB + 256GB memory variant.

Samsung just signed an agreement with Imint, an organisation that develops real-time video enhancements that is used in defense, aeronautics and industries. In 2012, the company decided to get into the mobile industry after a new CEO was appointed.

The agreement borders on a software called Vidhance which is present in the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design and whose codes are present in Huawei’s own EMUI 5.0 in case the company plans on enabling it in any other device.

What is surprising is that Samsung’s agreement doesn’t include its use in smartphones which begs the question “what products will have the feature?”. Possible answers include a new Samsung Gear 360 camera, or maybe a new product like an action camera or a drone. So sadly, this enhancement won’t be coming to the Galaxy S8.

Vidhance actually has three benefits when used in a product. There is advanced video stabilization which is optimized for real-life scenarios such as walking and also has a high precision in low light conditions. You also get Live Auto Zoom, a feature that lets you select a subject which the software tracks and zooms on appropriately. The last is Auto Curate which use algorithms to break down your video into several clips and suggests which you should keep and cut out, and in seconds, your video is completed.

Display

We know you’ve got a fat account, so a phone with a large display is what you need to show the world that you like big things.

The Mate 9 Porsche Design has a 5.5-inch 2K AMOLED display which is big enough but if you want bigger, the Gionee M2017 take the display size up to 5.7-inches with the same display type and resolution. Both displays are curved on both sides and should let you see your account balance in bright and vivid colors.

RAM, ROM, and Processor

The Gionee M2017 and Mate 9 Porsche Design both come with 6GB of RAM which is the highest you can get on any phone right now. The difference is in the storage option. Gionee let’s you choose either a 128GB model or a 256GB model, but Huawei on the other hand says its 256GB or nothing. But you want to know what we think? Go big or go home because 128GB is for cheapskates.

The processor is another important specification that we feel you should consider. The Gionee M2017 sports Qualcomm’s new mid-range king, the Snapdragon 653. This chip is synonymous to the Snapdragon 652 just the way the Snapdragon 821 is to the Snapdragon 820. The octa-core processor clocked at 1.95GHz should handle most tasks you throw at it but to be honest, it can’t hold a candle to the Kirin 960 present in the Mate 9.  The Kirin 960 apart from having a higher clock speed (2.4GHz) also uses the newer Cortex-A73 CPU core which is more powerful than the Cortex-A72 present in the Gionee.

Camera and Battery

We know you have the money and we believe you should flaunt it. You need to show your friends that your pre-ordered Faraday Future SUV has arrived and you need a good camera that captures the beauty.

Both phones have dual cameras but right now Huawei seems to be the boss when it comes to dual camera phones. The Mate 9 Porsche Design sports a 20MP+12MP combo at the back of the device. The sensors are made in collaboration with German camera manufacturer, Leica. The setup has got OIS, 2x optical zoom, and laser autofocus. Up front is an 8MP shooter for selfies. The Gionee M2017 uses a combination of a 12MP and 13MP sensor with 2x optical zoom and you also get an 8MP sensor up  front for selfies. The Gionee M2017 just launched a few days ago and there are no sample pictures yet but we doubt if it can measure up to that of the Mate 9.

The M2017 is the champ here even before the fight starts. It packs a 7000mAh battery which dwarfs the 4000mAh battery inside the Huawei. Gionee’s phone has Quick charge 3.0 support while Huawei has equipped the Mate 9 Porsche Design with its own Supercharge feature.

Design and Extra Features

They are both luxury phones and their appearance reflects that. The Gionee sports a mixture of glass, aluminium and leather. The curved display meets the metal frame on one side and the leather back does the same on the other. You get calfskin leather for the 128GB model and crocodile leather for the 256GB version.

The Mate 9 Porsche Design  on the other hand is a beauty too. It shares design similarities to the Galaxy Note 7 of blessed memory which was known for its stunning looks. There is no leather on the back but the matte black coating looks really nice on it.

The Gionee M2017 has a security chip that encrypts data but lacks NFC. There is a fingerprint scanner up front but there is no earphone jack. It also comes with Amigo OS 3.5 based on Android 6.0.

The Mate 9 Porsche Edition on the other hand doesn’t have a security chip but has NFC and an IR blaster. It ships with Android 7.0 Nougat, has its fingerprint scanner in front, and an audio jack at the bottom.

Price

The Huawei Mate 9 is priced at around $1547 while the Gionee M2017 is priced at $1007 for the 128GB model and $2446 for the 256GB model.

It’s a no brainer really. The Huawei Mate 9 has a more powerful processor, latest Android OS, better cameras definitely, comes with NFC, an IR blaster and an audio jack. It also offers the same storage amount as the Gionee M2017 256GB model at almost $900 less.

Huawei recently revealed the Mate 9 Porsche Design would go on sale along with the Mate 9 Pro in China on December 15 and ahead of the launch, beautiful images of the Huawei flagship have surfaced online, giving us a glimpse once more of the sleek design the smartphone features.

The Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design comes as a ready answer to fans who have been waiting for a Huawei phone with curved display. The device features a dual curved edge display similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge. he design is said to have been crafted by the popular Porsche Design studio and the display panel is made of AMOLED. The Mate 9 Porsche features a symmetrical design which sees it getting curved at the back as well. There is also the Porsche logo at the back of the device which is just 3mm thick.

The smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor which is embedded under the front home button. The Mate 9 Porsche also sports a 5.5-inch 2K display and is powered by the latest Kirin 960 chip. The device equally packs a mammoth 6GB RAm as well as 256GB storage. The camera is also the same setup as the regular version — 20MP + 12MP with Leica branding. Also, despite being smaller in size, the Mate 9 Porsche design battery is still 4000mAh.

Beautifully designed and well studded smartphones don’t come cheap, neither does the Mate 9 Porsche come cheap. The device carries a 1,395 Euros price tag of the Porshe Design, which translates closely to $1547.  Still the device is expected to be a hot selling one when it goes on sale and remember it is a limited edition.

Huawei had released the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design in China on November 14, barely a month ago but the smartphones have been making waves both on the local and foreign scenes. The Mate 9 has been on sales since then, recording catastrophic sales figures. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro and Porsche design which both have curved displays are yet to it store shelves nationwide. Well, that is about to change as the sleek Huawei Mate 9 has been revealed by the Chinese company to enter sales on December 15 by 10.08am.

According to a source on Weibo, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro would only see 6,000 units up for grab on that day while 10,000 units of the Mate 9 Porsche Design would be on sales on December 15. The Mate 9 which itself has a beautiful design sold over one million units since inception and considering the sleek and sturdy design of the Mate 9 Pro and Porsche Design, records are expected to be broken, expectations exceeded when the sales commence. Predictably, the Mate 9 Pro would likely be sold out in just few seconds. Even the high price tag on the Porsche Design may not be enough to prevent it from being sold out in seconds.

In a related news, the Mate 9 has been revealed to enter the US market soon. According to tipster @evleaks, the Huawei flagship would be available in the US market on January 6 next year. This may finally be Huawei’s year of capturing and stamping its foot on the highly lucrative US market. Samsung and Apple may just need to keep watching their back.

The Huawei Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design were all released in China yesterday. While we had seen the duo of Mate 9 and Mate 9 Porsche Design earlier on when they both went official in Germany, the Mate 9 Pro was a new addition which was outed for the first time. We have got beautiful images of the Mate 9 Ceramic white and Mate 9 Pro Rose gold versions courtesy the guys at iT168.

The Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro are not similar in most aspects but the Mate 9 Pro and Mate 9 Porsche Design has a number of similarities.  In simple terms, the Mate 9 Pro is a cheaper version of the Porsche Design, same design but lacking the Porsche branded logo. The Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro comes in different display sizes. While the Mate 9 has a bigger 5.9-inch 1080 pixel flat AMOLED display, the Mate 9 Pro features a 5.5-inch curved AMOLED display with a higher 2K resolution.

However one feature which stands out on both devices are the narrow black borders at the edge of the display. The borders are very much visible on the white ceramic version of the Mate 9 and Rose gold version of the Mate 9 Pro both on display here. That is because both versions come in white colors on the front panel.

If you think the black borders are a turn-off or deal breaker, then perhaps you should stick with the black variant of either the Mate 9 or Mate 9 Pro. The black borders won’t be very obvious since the front panel is black as well. That doesn’t in anyway reduce the beautiful, sleek designs of the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro, though.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro follows suit in having almost similar specs with the Mate 9 Porsche Design and also a sleek beautiful design.

Here is an array of amazing hands-on images of the Mate 9 Pro, so you’ll have a close glimpse of the device in these stunning images captured from different angles. You might think this is the Mate 9 Porsche Design we have on display here but it is not. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro looks as beautiful as the Mate 9 Porsche Design but lacks the Porsche branding engraved on the screen of the Mate 9 Porsche Design. The device also comes in four color variants namely amber gold, rose gold, silver and gray.

The Huawei Mate 9 Pro comes with a 5.5-inch curved flexible display with the resolution bumped up to 2K and the fingerprint placed on the front. So here you have it, a Huawei smartphone with front mounted fingerprint sensor.  The device has an all metal body with fine finishing at the front but at the rear the body seems to take some brushed metal look.

The Mate 9 Pro retains the dual camera setup at the rear of same 20MP + 12MP sensors combo. But since the fingerprint sensor is at the home button, there is no rear fingerprint sensor. In addition, the Mate 9 Pro also has on the inside a Kirin 960 processor as well as two storage versions of 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB respectively, a 4000mAh battery with fast charge support and lots more offerings.

As the device is beautiful on the outside, so also is the interface as the Mate 9 Pro runs EMUI 5.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.

The Hauwei Mate 9 Pro starts at 4699 Yuan ($687) for the 4GB + 64GB and goes up to 5299 Yuan ($775) for the 6GB + 128GB version. The device is already on sale in China.

The Huawei Mate 9 released a few weeks ago comes in two variants: the standard edition and the curved-screen edition called the Mate 9 Porsche Design. However, we reported that Huawei is going to launch a different model in addition to the two above as a China exclusive.

This new model features the same dual-curved display but lacks the Porsche Design customization. For the sake of clarity, Huawei is calling it the Mate 9 Pro and real images of the phone have been leaked online ahead of the launch tomorrow.

The images were posted on Weibo by @Digitalcrazy and we can’t help but see how closely the front resembles that of a Samsung S7 Edge.

This unit of the Mate 9 Pro has a Champagne Gold coating and a brushed metal design on the back. The camera setup is the same as the other two models but the LED flash now sits atop the sensors and the laser focus module below it.

The antenna lines are more visible and there is a 3.5mm audio jack  at the bottom. The fingerprint scanner has also been moved to the front of the phone.

The Mate 9 Pro will come in three memory variants:

1. 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM edition which will sell for ¥4599 ($674);
2. 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM edition priced at ¥5299 ($777);
3. 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM edition priced at ¥5699 ($835).

The Porsche Design Model will also be available for ¥9888 ($1449) for those who want it.
