<p>The launch event will take place on 23rd December at 03:30 PM local time in China. The teaser image pretty much confirms that the device in question is a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/foldable-smartphone">foldable smartphone</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-430736 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date.jpeg?x44794" alt="Huawei P50 Pocket Foldable Smartphone Launch Date" width="1024" height="576" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Huawei-P50-Pocket-Launch-Date-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>The image hints that the phone has a vertical folding design and could come in at least two color options &#8212; White and Gold. It&#8217;s likely that this is the same smartphone that has been making rounds as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-v">Huawei Mate V</a>, featuring a clamshell design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip lineup.</p>
<p>Recently leaked images of the upcoming phone&#8217;s cover have revealed that the flip design smartphone will have two circular modules on the back panel at the top-left corner for the camera setup, similar to what we have seen on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p50/">Huawei P50</a>.</p>
<p>As of now, not much is known about the features and specifications of the upcoming Huawei P50 Pocket foldable smartphone but given that the launch is just a few days away, we expect to know more about the phone thorugh leaks as well as official teasers.</p>
<p>Along with the Huawei P50 Pocket, the company is also expected to launch a few other products at the same event on 23rd December in China, including the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-watch-d">Huawei Watch D smartwatch</a> with support for blood pressure monitoring.</p>

<p>According to tipster @菊厂影业Fans on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website), the company is gearing up to launch a number of new smart products in China during its product conference that is just 10 days away. In the event, he added that the CHinese tech giant will be launching foldable phones, smartwatches, ink screens, PCs, speakers, and more on December 23.</p>
<p>As of right now, we have already reported on the brand working on certain products like the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/03/huawei-mate-v-flip-phone-tipped-launch-december-23-other-products/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Mate V</a> flip phone, which is a clamshell foldable smartphone. Other notable gadgets include, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-watch-d/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Watch D</a> smartwatch that can monitor users&#8217; blood pressure, an E-reader tablet, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/11/01/huawei-sound-joy-smart-speakers-launched-with-26-hours-playback-time/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sound Joy Speaker</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-watch-fit-mini/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Watch Fit mini</a>, and others. Previously, Huawei had already announced the Sound Joy speakers globally, while the Watch Fit mini has also been released in certain markets in Europe as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-430568 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-13-122937.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="637" height="387" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-13-122937.png 637w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-13-122937-300x182.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px" /></p>
<p>With the Mate V being the latest foldable handset from the brand, we are excited to what the latest entry in the high end Mate series brings to the foldable phone market, with its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3</a> like design. Keep in mind that the company has yet to officially confirm this upcoming December 23 launch event. So take this report with a pinch of salt for now and stay tuned for more updates.</p>

This year, in February, the company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/22/huawei-mate-x2-arrives-with-a-new-folding-design-90hz-displays-leica-cameras-and-a-high-price-tag/">launched the Mate X2 smartphone</a> with an inward folding design, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.</p>
<p>Now, the company is working on another foldable smartphone which is supposedly featuring a clamshell design, similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-z-flip">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip lineup</a>. But this time, the company is charging the hinge design for the smartphone.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-428129 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310.jpeg?x44794" alt="Huawei Clamshell Foldable Smartphone Render" width="897" height="708" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310.jpeg 897w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310-300x237.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310-768x606.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310-696x549.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Huawei-Mate-V-Clamshell-Render-e1638247001310-532x420.jpeg 532w" sizes="(max-width: 897px) 100vw, 897px" /></p>
<p>As <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4708820616743709">per the report</a> coming from Weibo, Huawei will be using a next-generation hinge from Zhaoli Technology which is being developed for quite some time now. The company has said that a smartphone manufacturer will be using this new hinge and it seems that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> is the only brand that makes sense for this development.</p>
<p>The new hinge is said to be less complicated when compared to the ones already used by Huawei. But the hinge is also more reliable than the ones used in the past and the added bonus is that because of fewer parts, it is also less expensive.</p>
<p>Some reports indicate that the upcoming clamshell foldable smartphone could be named <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-v">Huawei Mate V</a> but the name has not been confirmed yet. It is expected to get launched soon and could come powered by the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000">Kirin 9000 chipset</a>. Just like recent Huawei phones, it is likely to be a 4G-only model because of the US-imposed sanctions on the company.</p>

<p>Although the exact launch date has not been known yet, a new report coming from a tipster on Weibo (<a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/588/253.htm">via ITHome</a>) claims that the company could be launching smartwatches, ink screens, Bluetooth glasses, and some other products with support for blood pressure monitoring at this upcoming event.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-279813 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/huawei-logo-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>So far, among all these types of products, names of only two products are known &#8212; <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-v">Huawei Mate V</a> for the flip folding smartphone and Huawei Watch D for the smartwatch.</p>
<p>The specifications of the Mate V as well as details of its design are currently unknown. It was previously reported that Huawei is working on a foldable phone <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/29/huawei-clamshell-foldable-smartphone-reportedly-in-the-works/">with a clamshell design</a> similar to that of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g/">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3</a>. However, there is no link connecting this clamshell foldable to the Mate V expected to launch next quarter. Time will tell if they are one and the same or two different devices.</p>
<p>On the other hand, coming to the Huawei Watch D, there’s no information about what the “D” in the device’s name indicates. Huawei previously launched a smartwatch named <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/14/huawei-watch-gt-2e-review-a-sporty-smartwatch-with-accurate-health-tracking/">Watch GT</a> where the GT stands for “Gran Turismo.” It may be that Huawei is rebranding its devices and thus, opted for a simpler name for the upcoming product.</p>
<p>This new smartwatch is expected to come with many health and fitness-related features, including a heart rate monitor, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/blood-pressure-monitor">blood pressure monitor</a>, and body fat monitor. If this turns out to be true, then it will be the first smartwatch from the company to come with support for blood pressure monitoring.</p>

Now, the China-based technology giant is gearing up to launch a new foldable smartphone in the market.</p>
<p>Now, the Chinese company is expected to launch its successor and a <a href="https://weibo.com/6048569942/KFIR8jLkQ">new report</a> coming from <em>Digital Chat Station</em> claims that Huawei is expected to follow its usual timeframe of launching a new Mate X-series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/foldable-smartphone">foldable</a> smartphone in the month of February.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372574 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate X2 featured" width="2195" height="1441" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured.jpg 2195w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-300x197.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-768x504.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-1024x672.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-696x457.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-741x486.jpg 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-1068x701.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-640x420.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-Mate-X2-featured-1920x1260.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2195px) 100vw, 2195px" /></p>
<p>Thus, the next-generation foldable device from the company will be launched in the month of February next year, most probably along with the flagship Mate 50 series phones which have already been delayed.</p>
<p>Further, the report adds that the company is currently testing the under-display fingerprint sensor and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oled">OLED screen</a> for the next generation of foldable smartphones. The phone is expected to come with a POL-LESS OLED technology which is developed by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-display">Samsung Display</a>, which could increase the brightness by 20 percent to 30 percent.</p>
<p>If the rumors are to be believed, then Huawei is working on another foldable smartphone that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/29/huawei-clamshell-foldable-smartphone-reportedly-in-the-works/">will come with a clamshell design</a>, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. The phone, which could be named Huawei Mate V, is said to come powered by the company&#8217;s own HiSilicon Kirin 9000 chipset and will be a 4G model.</p>
<p>The Huawei Mate V (name not yet confirmed) with a clamshell-like foldable design is expected to get launched by the end of this year. The device, when launched, will compete against the likes of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip</a> series.</p>
<p>Apart from Huawei, there are a few other China-based manufacturers working on their own foldable smartphones that were rumored to go official this year, including brands like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">OPPO</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a>. Xiaomi, which has already launched its first foldable smartphone, is expected to launch a new model.</p>

Its styluses are sold under the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/25/huawei-m-pencil-stylus-showcased-for-the-matepad-pro/">M-Pencil</a> name and support cross-compatibility and multi-device connection, allowing owners to use the same stylus for both a compatible phone and tablet simultaneously. A few months ago, it launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/04/the-huawei-m-pencil-2-is-compatible-with-the-mate-40-series/">M-Pencil 2</a> alongside new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/02/huaweis-new-matepads-come-in-multiple-sizes-run-harmonyos-and-are-powered-by-snapdragon-and-kirin-chips/">MatePad tablets</a> but there is a chance we will be getting another stylus this year, one that is expected to launch as the V-Pencil.</p>
<p>The folks at <em>LetsGoDigital</em> have discovered that the Chinese manufacturer has applied for a trademark for Huawei V-Pencil. The application was filed on October 4, and if the name didn&#8217;t already give it away that this is a stylus, the description states that it is an “electronic pen, computer stylus, touchscreen stylus”.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-418261" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei V-Pencil" width="1024" height="725" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil-768x544.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil-696x493.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Huawei-V-Pencil-593x420.jpg 593w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>We want to believe that the Huawei V-Pencil stylus will launch alongside the Huawei Mate V foldable phone reported to be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/30/huawei-mate-v-foldable-reported-to-be-scheduled-for-a-q4-release/">scheduled for launch later this year</a>. Thus, it is not far-fetched to say that this is a special stylus designed for the foldable just as <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> did with its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-5g/">Galaxy Z Fold3</a> which launched with a special stylus dubbed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/13/how-the-s-pen-fold-edition-differs-from-the-s-pen-pro/">S Pen Fold Edition</a>.</p>
<p>There are speculations that if the V-Pencil is indeed for the Huawei Mate V, then the foldable phone may not have a clamshell design like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g/">Galaxy Z Flip3</a> but a design similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x2/">Mate X2</a> that launched earlier this year.</p>
<p>The specifications of the Mate V foldable phone are still unknown but it is expected to come with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/22/huawei-unveils-the-kirin-9000-chipset-its-first-5g-integrated-5nm-soc/">Kirin 9000 4G</a> processor and according to the leaker that goes by @RODENT950 on Twitter, it will use the same liquid metal hinge mechanism available on the Mate X2.</p>

A new leak says Huawei has another foldable set for a launch next quarter and it will launch as the Mate V.</p>
<p>If all was well in Huawei-land, the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/mate-50">Mate 50</a> series should be the flagship launching next quarter but that won&#8217;t be happening as a result of its struggling mobile phone business which has taken a big hit due to the U.S. ban. Its P-series flagship for this year which should have been unveiled in the first quarter of the year <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/29/huawei-p50-and-huawei-p50-pro-announced-fresh-design-groundbreaking-cameras-and-the-snapdragon-888-chip/">wasn&#8217;t announced until late July</a>. Even the base model <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p50/">Huawei P50</a> just became available for purchase this month.</p>

<p>While the Mate 50 series won&#8217;t launch this year, the reliable leaker who goes by <em>@RODENT950</em> on Twitter has revealed that the manufacturer will announce a new foldable smartphone called the Mate V next quarter. The leaker had initially teased the arrival of the foldable about a month ago.</p>
<p>The specifications of the Mate V as well as details of its design are currently unknown. Earlier, it was reported that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/29/huawei-clamshell-foldable-smartphone-reportedly-in-the-works/">Huawei is working on a foldable phone with a clamshell design</a> similar to that of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip3-5g/">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3</a>. However, there is no link connecting this clamshell foldable to the Mate V expected to launch next quarter. Time will tell if they are one and the same or two different devices. Regardless, one more foldable phone from Huawei this year is good news, not only for Huawei fans but for the foldable smartphone market at large.</p>

Samsung will be announcing the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in the coming month. Like the predecessor <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-fold">Galaxy Fold</a> from last year, the upcoming model will be flaunting inward folding design. On the other side, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-x">Huawei’s Mate X</a> from last year and the Mate Xs that went official earlier this year both arrived with fold-out design. A fresh report on <em>LetsGoDigital </em>states that Huawei Technologies trademarked the “Mate V” brand name with European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). It is speculated that the Huawei Mate V could be arriving later this year with a fold-in design like Samsung’s foldable phones.</p>
<p>Reports surrounding the upcoming foldable phone from Huawei claims that it could be called Huawei Mate X2. However, since it is likely to arrive with a completely new form factor, the company may adopt a new name for it just as Samsung is now rumored to call its next Fold product as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/06/galaxy-z-fold-2-will-be-the-name-of-samsungs-upcoming-foldable/">Galaxy Z Fold 2</a>, and not Galaxy Fold 2.</p>

The Mate V name appears suitable since the letter V looks like a book-like folding design. One of the patent filings that Huawei had filed in August had carried the design of a fold-in foldable phone. The images in the post belong to those patent filings.</p>

<p>The images show the presence of a large inner display and a smaller display on the outside. The backside of the device has a quadruple-camera unit. The fourth lens in the setup appears square which indicates that it could be a periscope zoom lens.</p>

<p>Rumors have it that the main display of the upcoming foldable smartphone will <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/02/huawei-mate-x2-may-launch-in-2020-itself-with-120hz-display/">support a 120Hz refresh rate</a>. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-xs">Huawei Mate Xs</a> reportedly encountered lackluster sales due to its hefty price tag. It remains to be seen whether the Mate V arrives with an enticing price tag.</p>
