Huawei may be having a tough time procuring chipsets for its smartphones but the tech giant has continued to maintain its product cycle. The Mate 40 series was launched not too long and after that, we expect the Mate X2 foldable phone to make its entrance soon.

A Huawei model believed to be the Mate X2 has been spotted on the website of China’s tlecom regulatory body TENAA. The device carries the model number TET-AN00/TET-AN10. The listing comes just on the heels of the Mate X2’s listing on the website of China’s 3C.

Although both listings did little to reveal the Mate X2’s specs, the listings are indicators that the company may soon launch the device.  We still don’t know the processor the tech will utilise on the foldable device but the device is expected to pack the flagship Kirin 9000 SoC. It may also retain the 8-inch screen size. However, there are expectations that Huawei will shift to an in-folding design as against out-folding one used on the Mate X. The secondary screen will be a 4.5-inch display, going by a recent patent filing. The foldable device is also expected to support 66W fast charging.

Apart from the Mate X2, a second Huawei model was also spotted on TENAA (via). The model bears the number CDL-AN50 and is expected to be a 5G phone. TENAA lists some of the specs to include a 6.5-inch display as well as a 3,900 mAh battery. The phone will have a dimension of 162.3 x 75.0 x 8.6 mm. The device has also passed through 3C where it was shown to pack a 40W charger.

Huawei is expected to unveil its flagship Mate 40 series any moment from now. The anticipated models include the Mate X2 and Mate X2 Pro. The company may also introduce another flagship product, this time the Mate X2 foldable phone.

There is no official word on when the Mate X2 will be launched but there are speculations it won’t hit the market until next year. It could also make an appearance alongside the Mate 40 series. A purported hands-on image of the Mate X2 has leaked online. The leak which appeared on Weibo thanks to Chinese blogger @8090 Life Digital, gives us a glimpse of the alleged Mate X2 in its fully unfolded state. We must note that the device looks just like the Mate Xs which in turn was nearly identical to the Mate X.

The phone appears to utilise an outward folding design even though this is at variance with recent patent filings which point to an infolding design. The foldable design adopts the same screen protector as it predecessor.

The Huawei Mate X2 is rumoured to feature the same 8-inch screen as the Mate X alongside a rear-mounted camera setup. The foldable smartphone is also expected to pack the flagship Kirin 9000 chipset which will also be used by the Mate 40 series.
