If 2024 was a year of incremental updates, 2025 was the year the foldable form factor truly matured. We moved past the era of engineering curiosity and fragility into a time where these devices stood confidently alongside and often surpassed traditional flagship phones.

From Samsung’s meticulous refinement of its ecosystem to Huawei and Oppo pushing the physical limits of camera optics and hinge mechanics, this year’s lineup proved that foldables are no longer just experiments. They are now among the very best smartphones money can buy.

Here are our picks for the best foldable smartphones of 2025.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung’s seventh-generation book-style foldable feels like the device the series was always destined to be. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 eliminates previous compromises, most notably in its weight; at just 215g, it is the lightest Fold yet, thanks to a new titanium-backed display and slimmer FlexHinge. The viewing experience has been significantly upgraded with an 8-inch main display featuring thinner bezels and the removal of the under-display camera, which has been swapped for a sharper 10MP sensor.

However, the headline feature is the camera system. For the first time, Samsung has integrated a 200MP flagship-grade sensor, allowing the Fold 7 to capture images that rival the best slab phones on the market. On the software front, the device acts as a premier mobile workstation. Running One UI 8 and Android 16, it leverages Galaxy AI for seamless multitasking, such as side-by-side editing and context-aware interactions with Gemini Live.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7

Samsung also elevated its Flip line this year, turning the clamshell form factor into a productivity tool. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 introduced the biggest and brightest cover screen ever seen on the series, a 4.1-inch FlexWindow that genuinely feels like a standalone phone. This expanded real estate allows users to reply to messages, run full apps, or interact with Gemini Live without ever needing to unfold the device.

Beyond the screen, the Flip 7 is a powerhouse in its own right. It is the first in the series to support Samsung DeX, allowing it to double as a desktop computer, and it packs a larger 4300mAh battery despite being slimmer than ever. This combination of portability and power ensures that the Flip 7 offers a premium flagship experience that goes far beyond simple nostalgia.

Huawei Mate X7

While others focused on refinement, Huawei chose to experiment with aggressive hardware. The Mate X7 turned heads with its unique Yun Brocade Collector’s Edition design, but it is the camera system that truly sets it apart. It features a 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture, a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, and Huawei’s Red Maple color sensor, all of which combine to deliver stunning results in any lighting condition.

The display technology is equally impressive, with a foldable OLED screen that reaches a peak brightness of 2500 nits. Running on HarmonyOS, the device makes excellent use of this extra screen real estate with improved multitasking features and satellite messaging support. To top it off, the 5600mAh battery and titanium-reinforced body make the Mate X7 one of the most rugged and longest-lasting foldables released this year.

Oppo Find N5

If Samsung and Huawei aimed for raw performance and camera versatility, the Find N5 focused on ergonomic perfection. This was arguably the most comfortable and polished foldable to hold in 2025, featuring a crease so shallow it is barely noticeable. This is made possible by an aerospace-grade titanium hinge that is both lighter and tougher than anything Oppo has shipped before.

The experience is just as premium on the inside. The 8.12-inch LTPO inner display supports stylus input, while the outer display has been upgraded for higher brightness. The Hasselblad-powered triple camera system, which includes a 50MP periscope lens and 6x optical zoom, holds its own in low-light and portrait scenarios. Furthermore, Oppo addressed battery anxiety by packing a massive 5600mAh silicon-carbon battery into the device, complete with fast wired and wireless charging, features its predecessor sorely lacked.

Huawei Pura X

Huawei’s Pura X took the idea of a flip phone and flipped expectations. The device features a unique 6.3-inch inner display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a rarity in foldables, while the 3.5-inch outer OLED is a perfect square, giving the phone a distinctive, mirror-like aesthetic. Both screens are top-tier, supporting high-frequency PWM dimming and full 120Hz LTPO refresh rates.

Unlike many flips that compromise on cameras, the Pura X is a serious imaging device. It houses a 50MP RYYB main camera, a 40MP ultra-wide, and a 3.5x telephoto lens, offering flagship versatility in a playful form factor. When you add in IPX8 water resistance, satellite communication support, and a 4720mAh battery with 66W wired charging, the Pura X stands out as a flip phone that feels like a true flagship.

Huawei introduced four major flagship products at its global launch event themed “Unfold the Moment.” The new lineup includes the Mate X7 foldable phone, FreeClip 2 earphones, WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Royal Gold Edition, and the MatePad 11.5 S tablet. The company said the launch reflects its continued focus on user needs and meaningful innovation.

Huawei Mate X7

Mate X7: Slim Foldable with Flagship Imaging

Huawei’s new Mate X7 takes inspiration from the “Time-Space Gate” concept and a 1,600-year-old light-woven brocade tradition. It comes in Brocade White (nano fiber finish) and Nebula Red or Black vegan leather options.

The Mate X7 is Huawei’s first slim foldable to match the imaging standards of a regular flagship phone. It includes a second-generation True-to-Color Camera with 43% better color accuracy, an Ultra Lighting HDR Camera, an Ultra-Wide Camera, and a Telephoto Macro Camera. It supports 17.5 EV Ultra Lighting HDR Video, helping it capture detailed shots in bright and low-light scenes.

To improve durability, Huawei uses its Ultra-Reliable Foldable Architecture, featuring Ultra Durable Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass, Advanced Precision Hinges, and a 3-Layer Composite Ultra-Tough Structure. For performance, it includes a 3,550 mm² SuperCool VC + Graphene cooling system and a 5,600 mAh battery for all-day use.

Huawei FreeClip 2

FreeClip 2: Open-Ear Earphones (Upgraded AI Audio)

The Huawei FreeClip 2 earphones feature an ear-clip design meant to provide open-ear comfort while doubling as a stylish accessory. Each earbud weighs only 5.1 g, making it easy to wear for long hours. Color options include Blue, White, Black, and a new Rose Gold finish for global markets.

The earbuds use dual-driver units for clearer, more dynamic sound and an NPU AI processor that offers 10× better computing performance than the previous version. They are rated IP57 for dust and water resistance and deliver up to 38 hours of total battery life, including the charging case.

Huawei Watch Ultimate Design – Royal Gold

WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN: Royal Gold Edition

Huawei also introduced the WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Royal Gold Edition, which blends luxury materials with rugged performance. The watch features a rare-earth purple ceramic bezel, 18K gold details, a zirconium-based liquid metal case, and a purple-gold titanium alloy strap.

The watch includes features for deep-sea divers, such as an advanced waterproof system and sonar-based underwater communication. It offers stronger connectivity with an upgraded antenna, AI noise cancellation, and precise navigation thanks to the HUAWEI Sunflower Positioning System. It also supports eSIM communication and includes the TruSense system with X-TAP technology for more accurate health tracking.

Huawei MatePad 11.5 S

MatePad 11.5 S: Tablet With a Paper-Like Display

The new MatePad 11.5 S is designed for creators who need both clarity and comfort. Its PaperMatte Display improves on traditional matte screens by keeping visuals sharp while reducing glare and eye strain.

The tablet comes with an M-Pencil Pro stylus and a magnetic keyboard for writing, sketching, and productivity. Huawei Notes provides templates, brushes, and creative tools, while GoPaint now includes new animation features for bringing drawings to life. For video editing, Wondershare Filmora adds shortcut key support, and WPS Office delivers PC-level document, presentation, and spreadsheet capabilities.

A User-First Approach

Huawei said this new portfolio highlights its goal of building warm, human-centered connections with users worldwide. Under the theme “Now Is Yours,” the company aims to help people embrace meaningful moments through technology.

Huawei’s latest foldable, the Mate X7, officially went on sale in China last week. The phone has a starting price of 12,999 yuan, and like most foldables, it’s also quite expensive to repair.

If you’re curious about the prices, Huawei has shared a comprehensive list of repair parts prices for the Mate X7 in the Chinese market.

Huawei Mate X7 repair parts price

The most expensive part to repair is the screen. Huawei says it will cost you 5,199 yuan for a full-screen assembly (including the internal display, mid-frame, and battery). For comparison, that price can get you a Xiaomi 17 Pro. Even the smaller external screen costs 999 yuan on its own.

The Mate X7 has a 6.49-inch outer screen and a large 8-inch inner screen. Both panels support 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, with peak brightness hitting 3000 nits externally and 2500 nits internally.

Huawei says the inner display uses an industry-first triple-layer composite ultra-tough structure, which probably explains why it costs so much to repair it.

Other major parts carry expected flagship-level prices. The motherboard costs 3179 yuan, 299 yuan for the battery, and 579 yuan for the back cover.

The rear cameras are also sold separately, with the main 50MP unit costing 759 yuan, while the telephoto module goes for 809 yuan.

Smaller parts, like accessories and connectors, are surprisingly cheap; the SIM tray (Cato) is 10 yuan, while a replacement USB-C cable costs just 11 yuan.

A luxury foldable with luxury options

Huawei is offering several storage and RAM combinations for the Mate X7. The 20GB + 1TB Collector’s Edition with a stylus is the most expensive at 17,599 yuan.

The regular model comes in Obsidian Black, Cloud Brocade Blue, Cloud Brocade White, Cosmic Red, and Phantom Purple.

Despite its large screen, the Mate X7 keeps the weight at 235g and measures 4.5mm unfolded or 9.5mm folded, which is slimmer than many book-style foldables.

Huawei Mate X7 and Honor Magic V5 represent two distinct approaches to premium foldable smartphones, making this comparison essential for buyers choosing between durability-focused design and performance-driven innovation. These devices appeal to users seeking a powerful flagship experience with multitasking flexibility, advanced cameras, and long-term usability. Comparing them matters because each model targets a different type of premium user, those prioritizing rugged reliability versus those wanting cutting-edge productivity features, and the right choice depends on which strengths align better with individual needs.

Design and Display

Build and Feel

Both foldables bring premium craftsmanship but differ in their design philosophy. The Mate X7 emphasizes durability by using tougher materials and stronger water resistance, giving it an aura of long-term reliability. The Magic V5 feels lighter and more agile in daily use, which makes it appealing for users who prioritize convenience and productivity. Stylus support on the V5 further enhances its versatility, creating a more flexible workflow for professionals and creators. Both hinges feel refined, though the Mate X7 leans toward a sturdier, confidence-inspiring feel.

Display Quality

The Mate X7 delivers excellent color accuracy and supports HDR Vivid, offering a cinema-like viewing experience. Its cover display brightness also helps with comfortable outdoor use. The Magic V5 counters with extremely high peak brightness on both screens, making it one of the most visible foldables in sunlight. Its reinforced inner display protection adds durability for stylus-driven tasks, giving it a slight edge for productivity users.

Verdict

Mate X7 suits users who prioritize durability and premium media quality, while Magic V5 excels for productivity, stylus workflow, and outdoor brightness.

Specifications

Performance

Honor Magic V5 takes a clear lead thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, offering exceptional CPU and GPU power for gaming, editing, and sustained multitasking. Its performance feels more consistent across demanding apps and future software updates. The Mate X7’s Kirin 9030 Pro is well-optimized for HarmonyOS and handles daily tasks smoothly, but it doesn’t match the raw strength of Qualcomm’s flagship silicon. Honor’s extended software support further boosts its longevity, making it a smarter choice for users who value long-term performance stability.

Battery and Charging

Magic V5 features a larger battery in most regions, giving it better endurance during mixed-use days. Both phones offer fast wired and wireless charging, but Honor typically achieves slightly stronger real-world efficiency. The Mate X7 remains dependable, especially for balanced workloads, though users who multitask heavily may notice Honor’s endurance advantage.

Verdict

Magic V5 dominates in raw speed and long-lasting power, while Mate X7 offers stable HarmonyOS efficiency but not the same performance ceiling.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

Huawei leans heavily into imaging, offering a variable aperture main camera and advanced periscope capabilities. These allow the Mate X7 to handle difficult lighting transitions more naturally, making it ideal for detailed photography. Higher-tier models even include a larger sensor, which improves depth and low-light clarity. The Magic V5 brings a sharp 64MP telephoto lens and strong stabilization, delivering crisp results with reliable exposure control. It performs impressively for everyday shooting but lacks some of Huawei’s high-end optical flexibility.

Selfie Camera

Honor’s 20MP cameras on both the main and cover screens provide sharper selfies and smoother video call quality. Huawei’s selfie system is more conservative and offers natural-looking tones but lower detail in comparison.

Verdict

Mate X7 is the better pick for serious photography enthusiasts, while Magic V5 wins for sharper selfies and consistent day-to-day shooting results.

Pricing

Huawei Mate X7 is priced at around $1800 / ₹1.5 lakh, placing it in the upper premium bracket. Its cost reflects its stronger durability, advanced optics, and premium build quality, ideal for users who prioritize longevity and superior photography. Honor Magic V5, at around $1500 / ₹1.3 lakh, offers a more value-focused flagship foldable experience while still delivering top-tier performance, ultra-bright displays, and long-term software support.

The price gap feels significant: Honor provides better performance per dollar, whereas Huawei offers a more photography-driven and durability-focused package.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, and applicable taxes.

Conclusion

The Mate X7 stands out with top-tier durability ratings, variable aperture optics, and satellite messaging (regional), making it a strong choice for travelers and photography enthusiasts. The Magic V5 brings stylus support, a cutting-edge Snapdragon platform, ultra-bright displays, and extended Android upgrade policies, appealing to users who want productivity, speed, and longevity. Each device targets a different type of premium buyer, which makes the comparison meaningful.

Verdict

Choose the Mate X7 for unmatched durability and advanced imaging. Choose the Magic V5 for superior performance, productivity features, and better overall value.

Huawei Mate X7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 appeal to buyers who want a premium foldable experience but prioritize different strengths. One targets users seeking the newest hardware, while the other caters to those who value stability and long-term software support. Comparing them matters because each represents a distinct approach to what a flagship foldable should be, helping shoppers decide whether they want cutting-edge innovation or a more established, ecosystem-driven device.

Design and Display

Build and Feel

Huawei Mate X7 focuses on durability with its reinforced materials and advanced water-resistance rating, giving it a sense of rugged refinement suited for unpredictable environments. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 leans into a premium, modern feel with its armor-grade frame and stylus compatibility, offering a more productivity-oriented touch. The Mate X7’s design gives confidence that it can survive harsher conditions, while the Fold6 feels optimized for users who want a polished, accessory-friendly device.

Display Quality

Mate X7 offers a larger, brighter foldable OLED panel with extremely high PWM and peak brightness levels, creating a smoother and more comfortable viewing experience, especially for long reading sessions. The Fold6 counters with a punchier AMOLED 2X display known for color accuracy and HDR finesse. Its outer screen feels more traditional, while the Mate X7’s cover display leans toward cinematic vibrancy. Both displays excel, but the Mate X7 feels more immersive due to its expansive canvas.

Verdict

Mate X7 wins for brightness and immersive visuals, while Fold6 stands out for stylus support and balanced color tuning.

Specifications

Performance

Galaxy Z Fold6’s Snapdragon platform delivers top-tier performance with strong graphical output and better app optimization across Android. Its processing stability makes it more suitable for demanding multitaskers or mobile professionals. The Mate X7’s Kirin 9030 Pro holds its own with smooth system animations and responsive performance, especially within HarmonyOS. While everyday tasks feel comparable, Fold6 benefits from broader app compatibility and stronger GPU power, giving it an edge in heavy workloads or gaming.

Battery and Charging

Mate X7 offers a notably larger battery paired with faster wired and wireless charging. Its endurance feels well-suited for long, mixed-use days, particularly for content creators or frequent travelers. Fold6 charges slower and carries a smaller cell, but still maintains reliable full-day performance for most users. The Mate X7’s charging versatility makes it feel more future-ready.

Verdict

Fold6 leads in raw performance and software maturity, while Mate X7 dominates battery life and charging flexibility.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

Mate X7 features high-resolution sensors, variable aperture capability, and a stronger periscope zoom system, making its camera setup feel more adaptable to different lighting and distance scenarios. Its larger sensors on higher-tier models capture richer detail and offer a more cinematic depth. The Fold6’s camera system is dependable, with refined image processing and consistent color output. Its 8K video mode gives creators added flexibility, though its zoom and sensor sizes feel more conservative compared to Huawei’s ambitious approach.

Selfie Camera

Fold6’s cover selfie camera produces crisp, natural images and benefits from Samsung’s mature facial processing. Its under-display camera is more about convenience than sharpness. Mate X7’s dual selfie setup feels straightforward but reliable, providing clean results without overprocessing. Users seeking a more polished social-media-ready look may gravitate toward the Fold6’s front-facing outputs.

Verdict

Mate X7 offers more versatile rear cameras and stronger zoom, while Fold6 excels in front-facing consistency and video features.

Pricing

The Mate X7 enters the market at a slightly lower price, offering stronger battery performance, a brighter display, more varied RAM options, and a more ambitious camera system. This combination gives it a sense of better raw hardware value. The Fold6 costs a bit more but justifies its price with superior software longevity, broader app support, stylus functionality, and a more globally integrated ecosystem. Users invested in Android productivity tools may find the premium worthwhile, whereas those prioritizing hardware strength and charging flexibility may see greater value in Huawei’s package.

Overall, Mate X7 feels like the more cost-efficient choice in regions where HarmonyOS limitations are minimal. Fold6, however, positions itself as a long-term investment thanks to its seven major Android upgrades and wide platform compatibility.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, and applicable taxes.

Buy Galaxy Z FOLD 6

Conclusion

Mate X7 brings standout durability, satellite messaging (region-specific), rapid charging, and a display tuned for extreme brightness. Its hardware feels engineered for users who want maximum endurance and a visually immersive foldable. Fold6 differentiates itself with full stylus support, a desktop-like DeX experience, UWB integration, and unmatched long-term software commitment. These features make it appealing to productivity-focused users who value ecosystem depth as much as hardware.

Verdict

If your priority is cutting-edge hardware, a larger, brighter foldable display, long battery life with very fast charging, and a more versatile rear-camera system, then the newer Mate X7 clearly brings meaningful upgrades over the Galaxy Z Fold6.

On the other hand, if you care more about long-term software support, stable global app ecosystem, stylus and productivity features, and overall reliability in day-to-day use, the Fold6 remains a very sensible, “future-safe” choice even a year on.

Huawei Mate X7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold sit at the top of the foldable market, making this comparison essential for buyers deciding between premium hardware and long-term software value. These devices attract power users, creators, productivity-focused professionals, and anyone seeking a future-ready foldable experience. Understanding how they differ helps buyers choose whether they want Google’s advanced AI ecosystem or Huawei’s hardware-driven excellence.

Major Features:

Feature

Huawei Mate X7

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Winner

Display Quality

Brighter peak nits, higher PWM, HDR Vivid

Great color accuracy, HDR10+

Huawei

Performance

Kirin 9030 Pro, efficiency focused

Tensor G5, stronger peak power & AI

Pixel

Battery & Charging

Bigger battery, faster wired/wireless

Smaller battery, slower charging

Huawei

Camera (Main System)

Larger sensors, variable aperture, stronger low light

Better computational photography

Huawei

Software & Updates

HarmonyOS 6.0

7 major Android updates, better AI

Pixel

Design and Display

Build and Feel

Huawei’s Mate X7 leans toward a more refined, premium foldable feel thanks to its aerospace-grade frame and durable eco-leather options. Its tougher water-resistance rating adds confidence for long-term durability, and the hinge design feels engineered for smoother unfolding. Pixel 10 Pro Fold counters with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a more traditional Google design language. It feels reassuringly solid, and the blend of glass and metal appeals to users who prefer a classic smartphone texture. However, Google’s thicker folded profile may feel less sleek during one-handed use.

Display Quality

Both offer large, immersive 8-inch LTPO OLED foldable displays with 120Hz refresh rates, but Huawei pushes brightness levels further, making it easier to enjoy outdoors or under harsh lighting. The Mate X7’s higher PWM dimming also feels gentler on sensitive eyes. Pixel’s inner display is slightly less sharp in comparison, but it delivers excellent color accuracy and HDR10+ support, giving it a natural look ideal for streaming platforms.

Verdict

Mate X7 pulls ahead with its more refined materials, stronger brightness, and smoother visual comfort, while the Pixel 10 Pro Fold delivers a safe, balanced experience that suits users prioritizing Google’s design ecosystem.

Specifications

Performance

Huawei’s Kirin 9030 Pro prioritizes efficiency and thermals, delivering steady performance even during extended sessions. It feels tuned for reliability more than brute force, and the Maleoon GPU holds up well for daily tasks. Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s Tensor G5, built on a newer node, offers stronger peak power and better AI-assisted operations. Multitasking, voice features, and app prediction feel more responsive thanks to Google’s tuning. Users who push phones for computational tasks may notice Pixel’s advantage.

Battery and Charging

Huawei offers a larger battery paired with faster wired and wireless charging rates. This combination gives it better endurance and shorter recharge cycles, which feels convenient for heavy users. Pixel focuses on steady efficiency with respectable battery life and Qi2 wireless charging, appealing to users invested in modern charging ecosystems. Its bypass charging is a neat touch for gamers who want cooler operation during plugged-in use.

Verdict

Pixel wins for raw performance and intelligent software acceleration, while Mate X7 takes the crown for superior battery longevity and charging convenience.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

The Mate X7 uses a powerful triple-camera system with a variable aperture primary lens and strong periscope zoom. Its sensor sizes, especially on the higher-RAM variants, give it an advantage in low light and texture accuracy. The color science leans toward richer tones, giving images a more dramatic, flagship-grade look. Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers Google’s computational photography strengths, pushing clean detail and balanced exposure even in tough scenes. Its 5x optical zoom is excellent, but the smaller sensors may occasionally show limits in evening photography.

Selfie Camera

Huawei keeps things simple with 8MP shooters, focusing more on clarity and dynamic range. Pixel, with 10MP sensors and PDAF, produces sharper, more natural selfies that feel more consistent across lighting conditions. Creators who rely on front-facing video may appreciate Pixel’s superior stabilization and 4K recording options.

Verdict

Huawei offers a better hardware-driven camera system with stronger low-light and zoom depth, while Pixel delivers more consistent everyday results through computational processing and higher-quality selfie performance.

Pricing

Both devices sit at the same approximate $1800 price point, making value differentiation entirely feature-driven. Huawei justifies the cost with premium build materials, a brighter display, a more advanced battery/charging setup, and stronger camera hardware. The overall package feels crafted for users who want a luxury foldable designed to last.

Pixel 10 Pro Fold, however, provides long-term software value with seven major Android upgrades, which stands out in the foldable market. It also includes features like UWB, magnetic wireless charging, and advanced AI enhancements that add longevity to the user experience. For buyers deeply tied into Google services, the software commitment alone feels worth the price.

If the priority is hardware excellence and durability, Mate X7 offers stronger value. If long-term updates, advanced computational features, and ecosystem integration matter more, Pixel 10 Pro Fold feels like the smarter buy.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, and applicable taxes.

Conclusion

Huawei brings satellite messaging (region-limited), ultra-high-brightness displays, and advanced variable aperture optics, features that give it a distinct advantage for travelers, creators, and heavy multimedia users. Its battery efficiency and fast charging also provide a practical everyday edge. Pixel 10 Pro Fold introduces UWB, magnetic charging, Google-grade AI tools, and a long update roadmap, offering a more future-proof digital experience. The Pixel’s computational photography and smart software touches make everyday tasks feel more fluid.

Verdict

Mate X7 excels in hardware refinement, brighter visuals, better endurance, and more versatile photography. It suits users who want a premium foldable with a focus on durability and strong all-around physical performance. Pixel 10 Pro Fold shines for software longevity, intelligent optimizations, and ecosystem cohesion, making it ideal for users who prefer Google’s services and a more AI-driven experience.

Overall, Mate X7 feels like the better choice for hardware enthusiasts and power users, while Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the smarter pick for software-first users who value updates, AI features, and consistent everyday simplicity.

Huawei isn’t wasting any time with its latest foldable. The Mate X7, which made its first appearance in China only yesterday, is already gearing up for an international launch. Huawei has confirmed a dedicated global event, suggesting the company feels confident about putting its latest book-style foldable directly up against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7.

Typically, Huawei and most other Chinese brands wait a while before bringing their devices overseas — sometimes weeks, sometimes months. This time, though, there’s barely a pause. Within hours of the Mate X7’s home-market reveal — which came alongside a stack of new products — Huawei announced that the phone would be shown off to the world in the very near future.

The big date? December 11. And the venue is Dubai, one of Huawei’s usual launch bases for international markets.

If the past few generations are any indication, the global Mate X7 should be nearly identical to the Chinese model. That means the same ultra-slim hinge, refined design, larger battery setup — essentially all the upgrades Huawei showcased at the domestic launch. No watered-down specs, at least from what we’ve seen so far.

Unfold the new chapter.

For now, the Mate X7 is the only device officially confirmed for the Dubai stage. There’s speculation that some Mate 80 series phones might make an appearance, but Huawei hasn’t hinted at anything beyond the foldable yet. As for newly introduced devices like the MateBook Fold or the MatePad Edge, those seem unlikely to join the party right away — Huawei has been more cautious about bringing niche form factors outside China.

By rolling the Mate X7 out globally as soon as possible, the company is signaling that it intends to be back in the conversation — not just at home, but on the international stage.

Pricing, sale dates, and specific markets will be confirmed on December 11.

Huawei is pushing the limits of foldable smartphone design with the launch of the Mate X7. This premium foldable device refines nearly every aspect of its predecessor, the Mate X6, while introducing new technologies in display, materials, performance, and connectivity.

Built on Huawei’s proprietary hardware-software ecosystem, the Mate X7 is not only durable but feature-packed, with serious upgrades in imaging, display brightness, and off-grid communication.

Bright and Responsive Displays

The Mate X7 features two OLED screens built for clarity, brightness, and fluidity. The outer 6.49-inch panel pushes peak brightness to 3000 nits, while the foldable 8-inch display hits 2500 nits.

Both support LTPO adaptive refresh from 1 Hz to 120 Hz and use 1440Hz PWM dimming to reduce eye strain. The screens support the P3 color gamut and display over 1 billion colors, with Huawei’s COE ultra-transparent pixel tech helping reduce power usage by up to 25%.

Touch response is also optimized. The outer screen reaches a 300Hz sampling rate, while the inner screen supports 240Hz. Both panels deliver an immersive and responsive experience, whether the phone is folded or unfolded.

Strong Build and Durability

The Mate X7 is built around Huawei’s Xuanwu folding architecture, using a tri-layer composite structure for the inner screen that includes non-Newtonian materials, UTG glass, and a carbon-fiber base. Huawei claims a 100% improvement in bending durability and 20% more impact resistance compared to its predecessor.

The outer screen is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass, and the Collector’s Edition upgrades this to Xuanwu-tempered Kunlun Glass. The entire device carries IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, including protection against high-pressure water jets.

Hardware and Performance

Huawei equips the Mate X7 with the Kirin 9030 Pro processor, paired with up to 20GB RAM and 1TB storage on the top Collector’s Edition variant. HarmonyOS 6 powers the software side, unlocking features like AI-enhanced multitasking, document comparison, intelligent note-taking, and dynamic reading enhancements optimized for the foldable form factor.

The Mate X7 features a graphene-based cooling system with a 3550 mm² vapor chamber and ultra-conductive 2000W/m·K graphene layers to manage thermals during intensive use.

Battery life holds up well, though it doesn’t aim for any jaw-dropping numbers. The Collector’s Edition uses a 5600mAh battery, while the standard model includes a 5525mAh unit. Both support 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and a 10-day extreme outdoor standby mode.

Connectivity Features

Huawei focuses heavily on remote communication. The Mate X7 supports Beidou satellite messaging, while the Collector’s Edition also includes Tiantong satellite calling. The phone includes Huawei’s 5A networking system that improves connectivity in weak-signal areas, and it also supports emergency off-grid communication through China Broadcasting.

For connectivity, the device includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC and L2HC, USB-C 3.1 Gen1 with DP output, NFC, and full-band GNSS including NavIC, QZSS, and GALILEO.

Cameras

The Mate X7 debuts Huawei’s second-generation Red Maple Imaging system. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with a ten-stop variable aperture, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP 3.5x telephoto macro lens. The system supports OIS, RAW capture, up to 100x zoom, and 4K HDR video. Huawei claims the new imaging system achieves flagship-level results in a compact module optimized for the foldable design.

The Collector’s Edition makes bolder claims, stating its 1/1.28-inch main sensor collects 100% more light than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the periscope lens pulls in 127% more light. Both front screens feature 8MP cameras capable of 4K video.

Price and Availability

Huawei has priced the Mate X7 aggressively in the ultra-premium foldable segment. The base 12GB + 256GB model starts at 12,999 yuan (~$1,830), while the Collector’s Edition with stylus support and 20GB + 1TB configuration reaches 17,599 yuan (~$2,475).

All variants support the same durability ratings and display technologies, with added perks like M-Pen 3 stylus compatibility exclusive to the higher-end models.

Yesterday, the Mate 80 series was revealed in full shortly after the company announced its launch date of November 25th. The devices are launching alongside the foldable Mate X7, and Huawei today has also given us our very first look at the foldable.

The Mate X7 features a prominent camera module on the back panel with a gold ring (bezel) encircling the entire module. The image shows individual cutouts within the module, and it likely houses a triple-camera setup with main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses.

Huawei’s official Weibo account also shared videos showing the durability upgrades coming to the new foldable. The Mate X7 is shown enduring a lineup of extreme stress tests before leaving the factory, including an 80°C hot water spray, iron-ball impact test, and multiple rounds of bending.

According to the fine print on the video, the phone is rated for both IP58 and IP59 dust and water resistance.

There’s also going to be a premium Collector’s Edition, which features a second-generation Basalt tempered Kunlun glass on the outer display. Meanwhile, the regular Mate X7 will have the standard second-gen Kunlun glass.

What it packs inside

And thanks to tipster Digital Chat Station, we have an early look at the hardware inside. The Mate X7 is reportedly powered by Huawei’s new Kirin 9030 chip and will come in 12GB, 16GB, and even 20GB RAM configurations. That last option is the highest RAM for not just foldables, but also a mainstream flagship.

Camera-wise, the Mate X7 is expected to feature a 50-megapixel variable-aperture main shooter paired with a periscope telephoto lens. The tipster also shared images of the phone in three colors: Light Blue, Purple, and Red. The latter is the Collector’s Edition model.

Huawei has finally put an end to months of rumors by confirming the launch of the Mate 80 series. The company will host a major product event on November 25 at 2:30 PM China time to announce the new Mate devices.

Alongside its new flagship phones, Huawei is also announcing the Mate X7 foldable at the same event.

The first teaser image for the event keeps things minimal. It shows no specs, no silhouettes, nothing major. But it does show two large circular outlines. These are likely hints at the Mate 80’s round camera system and a magnetic ring on the back of the case.

Huawei Mate 80 series

Huawei is reportedly preparing four models this year:

Mate 80

Mate 80 Pro

Mate 80 Pro Max (replacing the previous Pro+ version)

Mate 80 RS Master Edition

The Pro Max seems more like a renaming exercise than a huge redesign, but all models are expected to share some major upgrades.

Expected to be the Huawei Mate 80 Pro

One of the most noticeable changes will be support for 3D face recognition across all models. It was previously reserved for the top-end models. The series is also said to feature a side-mounted fingerprint reader and a refreshed red-maple-colored camera module.

Rumors from China also claim that Huawei could offer the Mate 80 phones with a massive 20GB of RAM. All models are expected to run on the new Kirin 9030 chipset, a successor to the Kirin 9020 from the Mate 70 series.

Huawei may also be testing a built-in active cooling fan, something rarely seen in mainstream flagships.

Huawei Mate X7

Alongside the Mate 80 series, Huawei will introduce the new Mate X7 foldable. This generation reportedly features a larger 7.95-inch 2K foldable screen with UTG ultra-thin glass, a bigger battery, improved cameras, and a lighter, thinner body.

It will also share the Kirin 9030 chip and come in new colors like Obsidian Black, Phantom Purple, Cosmic Red, Cloud Blue, and Cloud White.

As always, all of this remains unconfirmed until launch day — but with only a week to go, we won’t have to wait long to see what Huawei has been building.

It is also being said that the brand may unveil the Nova 15 series in December in the country. However, a new update suggests that the company will not launch the Nova 15 lineup this year.

Huawei Nova 15 series said to be delayed

Huawei Nova 15 series dealyed, claims tipster

According to a Chinese tech blogger, Huawei’s upcoming Mate lineup, which includes the Mate 80 series and the Mate X7 foldable, is ready for launch. He also mentioned that the Nova 15 series is unlikely to launch in December.

This revised timeline suggests the company is prioritizing resources toward ensuring sufficient production capacity and promotional support for the Mate range, which remains its core premium line. The Nova delay could also be influenced by adjustments within the supply chain and overall product scheduling optimization.

As per reports, the Nova 15 lineup will include multiple models, including the top-of-the-line Nova 15 Ultra. Reports have revealed that the device will feature a 50-megapixel main camera backed by a 1/1.3-inch large sensor, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera, and a dedicated multispectral sensor.

Huawei Nova 14 Ultra

The Nova 15 Ultra is expected to feature a Kirin chipset and run on HarmonyOS 6. It could be equipped with a 6,500mAh battery that supports 100W charging. It is also expected to come with other features such as satellite connectivity, a metal middle frame, and an IP68/69-rated dust and water-resistant chassis.

Apart from the Ultra model, the lineup is also expected to include the Huawei Nova 15 and Nova 15 Pro.

Huawei is expected to unveil the Mate 80 series of smartphones in November in China. Speculations are rife that the brand also plans to launch the Huawei Mate X7 foldable phone in the same month, probably alongside the Mate 80 lineup. Today, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station leaked the key specifications of the company’s upcoming foldable phone.

Huawei Mate X7 key details leaked

Huawei Mate X7 leak by DCS

According to the tipster, the Huawei Mate X7, which has the codename Delphi, is tentatively scheduled to launch in November. The engineering prototype of the device is said to be equipped with a 7.95-inch foldable display with around 2K resolution, which combines Colour-on-Encapsulation (COE) technology for vivid visuals, LTPO for adaptive refresh rates that improve power efficiency, and Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) for enhanced durability and a smoother folding experience.

Under the hood, the Huawei Mate X7 is expected to feature the new Kirin 9030 chipset. Rumors suggest that the Mate 80 Pro models will also be equipped with the same SoC.

The tipster added that the Mate X7 will offer a larger battery, enhanced camera system, and an even lighter, thinner design. As per other reports, the device may house a battery of around 5,500mAh capacity. The new leak also states that the device will come in five shades, namely Obsidian Black, Phantom Purple, Cosmic Red, Cloud Blue, and Cloud White.

Huawei Mate X6

In July, the tipster claimed that Huawei is testing two different camera sensors for the Mate X7. There’s one with a 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch sensor and another with a slightly larger 1/1.3-inch sensor. Both are said to support a physical variable aperture. It is also said to feature a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with macro capabilities and a multispectral sensor to improve overall image quality.

Oppo, Vivo, Honor, and Samsung have all launched their foldable phones in China this year. Huawei, however, remains the only major brand yet to release its foldable lineup for 2025. The company is expected to introduce two new models in September in China: the Huawei Mate XT 2, a tri-foldable device, and the Mate X7, a book-style foldable phone. A new leak from reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed key details about the Mate X7.

Huawei Mate X7 specifications (rumored)

Huawei Mate X7 leak

According to the leak, the Mate X7 engineering prototype features a large 7.95-inch inner display with a 2K resolution. It uses COE LTPO technology and ultra-thin glass (UTG), which should enhance both display efficiency and durability. The device is said to be built on a next-generation platform, likely powered by the upcoming Kirin 9030 chip, which is also expected to be seen in the Mate 80 series.

On the imaging front, Huawei is reportedly testing two different main camera sensors: one with a 50-megapixel 1/1.56-inch sensor and another with a slightly larger 1/1.3-inch sensor. Both are said to support a physical variable aperture. The phone may also feature a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with macro capabilities and a multispectral sensor to improve overall image quality.

The Mate X7 is expected to offer high-grade water resistance and maintain a slim, lightweight design, positioning it as a premium all-round foldable flagship. It will likely run HarmonyOS 5.1, similar to Huawei’s Pura 80 series.

As for the Mate XT 2, the tri-foldable model, concrete specifications have yet to emerge. However, early rumours suggest it may include support for satellite connectivity and use ultra-flexible glass (UFG) for improved screen durability.

While multiple brands have actively launched book-style foldables over the past few years, it seems they are taking a different approach this year. Oppo recently introduced the Oppo Find N5 in China and Southeast Asia. While the OnePlus Open 2 was expected to debut as a rebranded version in markets like India and the US, OnePlus unexpectedly announced that it would not be launching a foldable phone this year, confirming that the Open 2 is not happening. At the same time, doubts persist about Xiaomi’s plans—while the brand is expected to launch the Mix Flip 2, it may not release the Mix Fold 5 this year. Now, a new leak raises questions about the existence of the rumored Vivo X Fold 4 and Huawei Mate X7.

Vivo X Fold 4 Pro – Will it skipped this year?

The Weibo post shown above from tipster Digital Chat Station, originally shared in January, listing the foldable phones expected from Chinese brands this year. These included the Oppo Find N5, Honor Magic V4, Vivo X Fold 4, and Huawei Mate X7. Notably, the post did not mention the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5.

Now, in a fresh leak, the tipster states that the only remaining Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered foldable phone is the Honor Magic V4. This casts doubt on the existence of the Vivo X Fold 4 (or X Fold 4 Pro, if that was its intended name).

To recall, Vivo’s X Fold series has always featured the latest Snapdragon chipset. Last year, the brand launched two foldables—the Vivo X Fold 3 and X Fold 3 Pro —powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, respectively. Earlier reports suggested that this year, Vivo would release only one foldable, the X Fold 4 Pro, equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite and a 6,000mAh battery.

Now, the new leak hints that Vivo might either launch the Vivo X Fold 4 Pro with a different Snapdragon chip or possibly a MediaTek SoC like the upcoming Dimensity 9400 Plus. Alternatively, the brand may completely skip launching a book-style foldable this year. However, before drawing any conclusions, it would be best to wait for further reports to clarify whether the X Fold 4 Pro will be released.

As for the Huawei Mate X7, it is still expected to launch in the second half of this year, featuring the company’s in-house Kirin chipset. For those who are waiting for the Magic V4, Honor is expected to unveil it in June this year in China.
