While the company has not revealed what it plans to announce, everyone knows what to expect.</p>
<p>A new <a href="https://money.udn.com/money/story/5612/4807393">report claims</a> that at the event, along with the Huawei Mate40 series flagship smartphones, the company is also expected to unveil the latest Kirin 9000 flagship chipset, which could also be the last flagship smartphone SoC from the company.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-147622 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Kirin-970-featured-e1504393041100.jpg?x44794" alt="Kirin 1000" width="1448" height="865" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Kirin-970-featured-e1504393041100.jpg 1448w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Kirin-970-featured-e1504393041100-300x179.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Kirin-970-featured-e1504393041100-768x459.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Kirin-970-featured-e1504393041100-1024x612.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1448px) 100vw, 1448px" /></p>
<p>The upcoming Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 9000 is manufactured by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a> using the 5nm node process. It could become the world&#8217;s first <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5nm">5nm</a> chipset, launching ahead of the similar chipset from Qualcomm and Apple. It remains to be seen what the features of the Kirin 9000 SoC are and how it fares among other flagship offerings.</p>
<p>As for the Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-40">Mate40 series</a>, the company is expected to launch three smartphones in the lineup with model numbers OCE-AN00, NOH-AN00, and NOP-AN00. It is said that the Mate40 has a 6.5-inch FHD+ display while the Pro model has a 6.78-inch QHD+ screen. The phones will run the Android operating system and support <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> connectivity.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-335273 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40 Pro" width="2765" height="2645" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b.jpg 2765w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-300x287.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-768x735.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-1024x980.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-696x666.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-1068x1022.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-439x420.jpg 439w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Huawei-Mate-40-Pro-b-1920x1837.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2765px) 100vw, 2765px" /></p>
<p>Recently, the United States <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/17/us-reinforces-restrictions-on-huaweis-access-to-chips-and-other-tech/">tightened restrictions on Huawei</a> and put around 70 of its affiliates on the Entity List, requiring them to have special permission from the government to carry out business.</p>
<p>Thus, Huawei’s contract chipset manufacturer <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/tsmc">TSMC</a> has been prevented from taking new orders from the Chinese company. The Taiwanese company will completely halt HiSilicon chip production from 15th September.</p>
<p>As per the reports, Huawei is now taking matters into its own hands. The company is expected to start its chip manufacturing process, at least partly, by the year-end and compete with industry giants like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung</a>, TSMC, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/intel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Intel</a>, and more. Given that manufacturing semiconductors is a complicated and expensive process, we will have to wait and see if Huawei manages to pull it off.</p>

Now, ahead of the phone going official, the design of the Mate40 Pro&#8217;s camera module has been leaked online.</p>
<p>The image of the upcoming Huawei Mate40 Pro&#8217;s camera module has been posted on Weibo, which showcases four camera sensors placed in a circular module while a rectangular element in the middle seems like an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/led">LED</a> flash.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-337517 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/mate40-pro-camera-module-leak.png?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate40 Pro Camera Module Leak" width="537" height="605" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/mate40-pro-camera-module-leak.png 537w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/mate40-pro-camera-module-leak-266x300.png 266w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/mate40-pro-camera-module-leak-373x420.png 373w" sizes="(max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px" /></p>
<p>There&#8217;s a possibility that the phone may be equipped with a triple-camera setup and not a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/quad-camera">quad-camera</a> setup given that while there are four camera positions in the image, only three on them have diaphragms. This indicates that the fourth element could be for some other type of sensor, like laser focus.</p>
<p>In related news, tempered glass for the protection of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> Mate40 series smartphones has also leaked online. From the leaked image, it seems that the series will come with a curved screen for a better screen-to-body ratio.</p>

<p>Recently, the company&#8217;s executive revealed that the Mate40 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/07/huawei-mate40-last-flagship-kirin-chipset/">could be the last from the company</a> to come powered by the high-end Kirin series chipset as the company will stop making the flagship processors on 15th September after the new U.S. sanctions.</p>
<p>Another report has revealed that the Huawei Mate40 is expected to run the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/emui">EMUI</a> 10.X version while the Pro model could be the first smartphone from the company to be running the latest EMUI 11, which the company has been working on for quite some time.</p>
<p>The Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate-40">Mate40 series</a> is expected to come in four models and the Mate40 Pro is reportedly codenamed &#8220;Noah&#8221;. While nothing much about these upcoming devices is known at this time, the phones are expected to go official next month.</p>

<p>Further, Yu Chengdong has also revealed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-mate40">Mate40</a> could be the last smartphone to come powered by the flagship <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin">Kirin</a> processor. The ban on Huawei by the United States is set to take effect from 15th September and the executive says that it will be impossible to manufacture chips and thus, the company will cease making flagship chipsets.</p>
<p>Going further, the Chinese giant is <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/502/164.htm">planning to make</a> breakthroughs in basic research and precision manufacturing in physical material science. The company continues making investments in materials and core technologies related to new processes for innovation.</p>

<p>For those who are unaware, recently, the U.S. government <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/16/us-announces-new-rule-that-could-cut-huawei-off-from-global-chip-suppliers/">announced new rules</a> which require chipmakers using U.S. technology to apply for a license to ship chips to Huawei and other banned entities. TSMC, the contract manufacturer of Huawei chips, confirmed that it has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/17/tsmc-confirms-no-new-chip-orders-from-huawei-since-may-15/">stopped taking new orders</a> from the Chinese giant since May.</p>
<p>It remains to be seen what the future will be for Huawei in terms of mid-range chipsets. The company has already shifted mass-production orders of Kirin 710A SoC based on the 14nm process, from TSMC to China-based SMIC, making it the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/12/huawei-kirin-710a-smic-mass-production/">first pure Chinese chip</a> with independent intellectual property rights.</p>
