Huawei has recently launched a new update for its MatePad Paper Ink Tablet, which includes an exciting e-reader app that has been developed in partnership with Palm Reading. This new app promises to provide users with the best e-book reading experience possible on the MatePad Paper tablet.

Apart from the e-reader app, the update also enhances the tablet’s note-taking feature significantly. This includes split-screen note-taking ability, making it easier for users to make changes to their notes by simply double-clicking the eraser to switch the stylus. Huawei‘s e-ink table – the MatePad Paper is now selling in Europe for €499 (~$521). The Europe launch is coming almost four months after it was first announced back in February during the Mobile World Congress.

The MatePad Paper is yet another Huawei device gradually making its way into the global market and Europe especially. Huawei is gradually pursuing its resurgence across several fronts after the debilitating US sanctions regime. The slate is bundled with a few accessories including an M-Pencil and Paper Folio Cover.

The Huawei MatePad Paper packs a 10.3-inch e-ink screen with a resolution of 1,872 x 1,404 pixels and pixel density of 227 PPI. It has an 86.3% screen-to-body ratio and is suited for use in various light conditions. Optical character recognition (OCR) is supported on the MatePad Paper and it is powered by a hexa-core chip. Huawei is silent on the particulars of the hexa-core chipset. Its RAM/ storage configuration is 4GB/64GB and a 3,625mAh battery offers four weeks of use on a single charge.

As stated earlier, the MatePad Paper comes with an M-Pencil accessory which is sold separately for $100, as well as a paper Folio Cover. The MatePad Paper is offered in the next 12 months on 0% finance. A 5% discount is also available for Unidays members, according to Huawei. At MWC 2022, Huawei introduced the Huawei MatePad 2022 and the MatePad Paper e-ink tablet on the global stage. And today, the company has debuted these devices in China.

Huawei MatePad 2022

The company has released two versions of the MatePad in China. First is the MatePad with the HiSilicon Kirin 710A chip and the other variant is called the MatePad Yuedong version, which comes equipped with the Snapdragon 778G SoC.

The Huawei MatePad 2022 sports a 10.4-inch IPS FullView touchscreen display with a resolution of 2000×120 pixels, 16.7 million colors, and 470nits brightness. The MatePad 2022 features a multi-window mode, as well as the Huawei Share multi-screen collaboration. It is also TuV Rheinland certified.

The processor is paired with 6GB RAM while the device comes with 64GB and 128GB storage options with support for expansion up to 512GB. The device runs HarmonyOS 2 out of the box which has a comprehensive improvement in system fluency compared with EMUI.

For the photography, the MatePad features a 13MP main camera at the rear with f/1.8 aperture and autofocus. The slate also comes with an 8MP selfie camera.

Giving this tablet the feel of an actual notepad is the second generation M-Pencil which comes bundled with the machine. The screen is well responsive to the stylus as Huawei tweaked the sensitivity of the textured screen. The M-Pencil features 4096 Levels of Pressure Sensitivity and low latency of 26ms making tasks like taking notes, annotating, edit books and other documents fluid and natural.

The tablet comes with WiFi 6+, a fingerprint sensor embedded under the power button, and Bluetooth 5.2 support and crams a 3625mAh battery that can deliver up to 28 days of battery life on standby. Huawei last month launched the MatePad Paper as one of its products showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2022. The tablet was tipped to hit China later in March. True to speculations, the Huawei MatePad Paper has now been officially revealed to launch in China on March 16. The product will emerge during the Huawei Whole House Smart and Full Scene New Product Spring Launch Conference billed to hold on that day.

The Huawei MatePad Paper is a tablet/ e-book reader with a 10.3-inch grayscale display screen. The display has a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels and an aspect ratio of 227 PPI. The e-ink display comes with added features such as an anti-glare and reflective screen that aids low-light use and 32 levels of backlighting.

As an e-book reader, the device packs trimmed down bezels on the top, bottom, and right edges while the left edge is slightly wider to give the outlook of a book that is opened. As a result of the reduced bezels, the device features a screen-to-body ratio of 86.3%.
